All the actual spells mention directly healing some hit points, and the
spell Healing even explicitly says that the HC and StB increase is for the
next _normal_ roll, contradicting your interpretation above.

I interpret 'next normal healing roll' to mean the next HC roll. In this
case the next HC roll is a bonus HC roll.

The spell requires a HC to regain HP immediately, and THEN a normal healing
after resting. Other magical healings do not require the roll, which is why
they are SO MUCH more expensive. I do have a question on this. I've always
followed that a medicinal increase to StB will increase the amount healed
by the spell. Am I correct?

My interpretation is that the Healing spell directly heals some damage,
and like any healing magic triggers a bonus HC roll. The Healing spell
gives bonuses to the HC roll healing though most other healing magics do
not. The reason some of the others are so expensive is that they can heal
more hits, particularly at high ELs. Healing Light can heal multiple people
simultaneously. (Note that Watchful Sleep is a healing spell and is only
BMC1).
The first sentence of Rule 1.342 together with the first sentence of Rule
1.343 can arguably be interpreted to mean that the medicinal StB affects
the amount of magical healing done for spells where StB makes a difference.
The Referee may decide that the second sentence of Rule 1.342 means that
the medicinal StB only applies to the following HC roll, or the Referee may
decide that the medicinal StB applies to both.

I read this as the Healing spell giving both immediate healing _and_ a
bonus roll (with additional healing if made). Alex, do you agree that your
interpretation makes Healing seem a little too cheap? Or healing light too
expensive, for that matter?

I interpret the rules to mean that ANY healing magic gives the bonus HC
roll. Note that HC rolls DO NOT automatically succeed. An EL0 Healing spell
only gives a 5% bonus to the HC roll and often it is cast without the
bandaging or other care that increases the HC further. So many times,
perhaps most times, the bonus HC roll fails and does not provide additional
healing.
The reason some of the others are so expensive is that they can heal more
hits, particularly at high ELs. Healing Light can heal multiple people
simultaneously. Whether that makes it worth BMC8 is a question of opinion.
Personally I would have put it around BMC5 or 6.
