Hiya.

    What I'd do is just count a casters DCV as 0 if he is "concentrating 
on casting"; if he is also trying to be defensive, I'd let him use 
however much of his DCV he wants, at a pentalty of -3 to his casting 
roll. So, if he had a DCV of 7, he could use between 1 and 7 (for a 
casting penalty of -3 to -21).
