Hello folks,

As some of you know a year ago I started work on
my Ship Project.
A supplmenet for Powers and Perils. For years i had
been whining
and complaining that P&P had no ship statistics and
such. So
I gave up and finally did it on my own. I am no huge
creative
person beyond being a Gamemaster in terms of creating a
huge
project like this. But I tried to be. On the
other hand I
am a computer programmer. Thus I tend to be a big
detail oriented
person. So in some ways I get bogged down in
details. But I
rather have TOO much info rather than not enough. I
separated
the project into topics and handled each as I went. I
even
read 2 books last year to help get knowledge and
research. One
was on construction of a Trireme and the other a generic
seamanship
type book. Both helped greatly. But even those I
had to use some
guess work in some areas. I also spent hours and weeks
of research
on the web looking up tons and tons of data.
I came to the conclusion there wasn't much out
there on ship
statistics as well. The only other system, 7th Sea if
I recall,
had any sort of data. There were some books out there
but didn't
want to pay for them just to get the data.
At this point I'm getting back into the project
after a couple
months of hiatus of not having time to work on it. At
this point
I am on the last 2 subjects - Ship Construction and
Warfare.
Once construction is over warfare should be a breeze.
But
construction has slowed me down a bit as its the hardest
and
most critical topic of the project. If it fails
everyhthing else
seems to be at waste.
With this said I've asked for help over the
years. I have gotten
some suggestions and tips from folks. Even some
documents from
list members to help out. But the review process is
slow so I've
not had time for folks to review the documents. So
I'll post them
here. Your free to review, use any or all of the
information.
Just let me know if you have suggestions or comments.
At this point I have 1.2 meg of textual data in
17 files.
Wout, when i post this stuff theres no need at this point
to
grab and place on teh website. If I get comments I
might fix
things or add to. Once a time settles down no one else
comment
on it I'll give you all of the files for the site at one
time.
All files should be spell checked already [something I
rarely
do on my own - too lazy!).
I'll post a document once a week rather than all
at once.
Since some are bigger than others and may take a bit
longer
to review/read. Hopefully by the end I might be done
with
the last 2 files.
Thanks goes to many folks including Richard,
Burton and Alex
among many others who helped me.

This is what will be coming in the next few
months [in order
of smallest to largest file]:

* Seagods.txt - This document shows the 12 related gods to
the
sea and water. This is from Richard's
God's file so the data
is not mine. But for each god I do add a
note or two to
comment on my own twist for the game. So
its only a minor
addition to the data from me. Data so
players can quickly
determine who the gods are for water based games
rather than
going through the whole document.

* Shipeco.txt - This document only shows a Economics
Table.
Based on the culture data for the Perilous
Lands. It shows
quickly in a table format which nations
export/import what.
It quickly determines this info. It also
has notes on each
nation. This is good for players and GMs
who need to know
where to trade what.

* Pnptech.txt - This document has 2 sections in it. I
went
through the monster file and tried to figure out
which
monsters or races MAY have some water based
technology like
boats or such. Then listed those cultures
who may have.
I found 24 races, monsters or cultures that may
have. Only
a brief note on each. This could give GMs
a base point to
use for encounters. Then I looked at the
Special Sites like
the Island where they may have related
technology and made
notes on it. I found 6 of the sites may
have such technology
and listed them. This file is mainly a
What if type file
for springboarding encounters.

* Stormenc.txt - This file contains only the sea /
water
encounter tables. It also has the Storms
information which
I did not alter from Richard's article. I
felt the encounter
tables were well done. However, in going
through the monster
file for pnptech I figured out which animals
were water based.
For the new critters in the v2 documents for
creatures I DID
add those to the encounter tables. Based
on what I figured
their encironment would be. So while the
basic mechanics isn't
changed from Richard's info I only expanded the
encounter tables
to include v2 monsters. I hope they fit
where they should. :)

* Seanimis.txt - This document shows NEW Natural Magical
Items
related to the sea and waterways. While
the NMIs in book 4
are great this expands on some that aren't
covered. This
file has 6 Animal items, 4 Plant items, 1 Stone,
1 Herbal
and 2 Gems. Some are interesting and some
are powerful.

* Magicitems.txt - This file contains some magical items
that
can be used by players in water based
campaigns. It is
all items created by me. It includes:
Grogo Bait, Ji Fey Stone,
Luminous Lanterns, Spotlight, Balance Chain,
Magical Spyglass,
Navigator's Star, Locator Ball, S'Kor, Preserver
Ring,
Ronas Carving, Land Locator and Camas
Bags. I tried to cover
all aspects of sea life in the document.

* Shiptype.txt - This file contains detailed ship types on
24
different types that can be used on the
sea. It includes
classifications, construction material, crew,
size and other
information that can be gleamed quickly for use
in games. This
is based on actual data with little on my
own. Another section
in the file has some ship notes (14) on things
that could not
fit in any other file or section. This
will be useful for
understanding the various types of ships.

* Shipmove.txt - This file was one of the last ones i just
recently
completed. This is for ship navigation and
movement. It is
quick and dirty rules on ship movement.
The first section goes
into detail on Wind Information based on actual
facts. Then
I go into detail on earth based facts (28 of
them). Once that
data set is done I cover sailing in the
P&P. It covers 4 quick
rules. Lastly I have movement charts based
on the facts in the
other sections. The top half is 100%
factual while the bottom
half is my own systems based on those
facts. I present the
facts for folks to understand the rules
better. The movement
charts include simple and complex systems for
both Rowing and
Sailing. I hope its a good system for
navigation.

* Shipterm.txt - This file contains a terms glossary of ship
or
water related items in a dictionary like format
from A-Y.
It is a quick dictionary definition file.

* Deckplan.txt - I was given a 7 meg PDF file of deck plans
awhile
back from someone. It contained ship deck
plans the sort based
on squares and feet. It didn't have below
decks just top decks.
I went through and typed up each ship in a word
picture and
included their length, width, weapons and other
info in a chart
format. The reason I did this to figure
out some good ways of
how a ship might look laid out to get some
averages for size
for example. These deck plans I don't know
the origin of but
they could be 7th Sea? It has 59 ships and boats
in it. It
is more a Gee Whiz file than anything serious
but might give
players/GMs a head start on ship layouts and
sizes.

* Seagear.txt - This file supplements the current P&P
equipment
lists. It includes items that are specific
to water and
ship based life. I added a ton of new
items. This would
include 3 Armors, 7 Weapons, 13 Animals, 7
pieces of animal
equipment, 28 new buildings/real estate,
expanded the
travel charges into 28 charges, expanded the
hirelings into
18 hirelings, many new Miscellaneous items and
lastly added
new ships weapons section. Then I go into
detail at the
bottom of the file descriptions of each item.

* Special.txt - This file contains special and notable
unique
ships or ship types. With the help of
Richard who gave a few
of these ships I expanded on them. I have
21 nations covered
here with many new, unique and special
ships. Some good and
others evil. I go into detail on the
background of each.

* Seamon.txt - This is a Sea/Water creature database
file. It
lists all the monsters and animals that may be
found in
water related (or near water) encounters.
It contains brief
mention of notes for monsters already in book 1
and the new
version 2 creature files. It then has 25
new monsters and
animals I made up using the creature generation
system that
were missing from the other books including the
basic Shark.
This file is good for jus tknowing which animals
might be
for water based encounters and setting up a
encounter system
of your own.

* Ship.txt - This file was originally going to contain
EVERY
topic and thread of the project. But I
sound found out it
would have been a HUGE document. So I
split them up as
above. This file is a catch all document
getting the topics
that were not big enough for their own
files. This in theory
should be the main document of the project with
reference to
all other documents from this one. It
includes topics like:
Introduction, History of Ships and Boats,
History of Navigation,
Miscellaneous Information, Perilous Lands
Geography Aspects,
Ship Cargo, Ship Crews, New Skills, New Guilds,
Ship Operations,
Credits and Acknowledgements and Contact
Information.

* Watersp.txt - While P&Ps basic magic and my new over
100+ spells
I did up a year ago are fine for land based
magic. There was
lacking for water based spells and magic.
So this file only
has water based spells in it. It created
*62* new spells.
They were divided up Elder - 13, Sidh - 1, Law -
19, Balance -15,
and Chaos - 14. Some were fun while others
were powerful and
some (about 3 were super rare spells).
These spells fills the
gaps missing in the other spells from book 2, v2
and my v2 new
spells. This file alone is over 100k.

* Shipcul.txt - I wanted to do research on which cultures
had
ships and who didn't. This file came from
that research. It
covers all 71 nations in the Perilous
Lands. It goes into detail
of which nations have craft and which
don't. For those who do
I then expand based on population data and other
formula what
ships are where. Expanding the basic
culture Power Chart info
into more detailed info. For example I
break down how many
river craft may be in EACH Katai river system,
city, town and
countryside villages. I give basic
encounter chances based on
the density of craft in each
"zone". Each zone being an area
the ships of that nation may be found around
their nation. I
then include a master chart of this info at the
bottom with
other data including Timber resources. I
took a more scientific
approach to this file and it worked out well
based on the formula
i created. It will help GMs and players
flesh out the nation they
are playing in.

* NOTABLEP.RTF - This RTF file will have to be converted to
Text
for printing. It is a file Richard gave to
me on Notable
personalities of the PL like Sea Guilds and
such. It was so
well done I didn't see fit to edit any of
it.

* Shipmake.txt - ?? OR some file name for Ship Construction
-
A work in progress at this point.

* ShipWar.txt - ?? or some filename. War based combat
system
for pnp and ships. Work in progress.

Please note. The Eastern Lands was given AFTER all the
files
but the shipmove.txt file was written. So I've not
delved into
that area for some of the files. The Sea Elves alone
should
be a great resource for new ship types, gear and other
aspects.
This covers Perilous Lands but does not HAVE to be for that
world
as it can fit others aside from the shipcul.txt info.

These files will be posted only once unless requested to do
so
again. Once they are all done I will give to Wout for
Website
addition or I may give it to him piecemeal if he
wishes.

I'll post each file once a week or every other week if
its
large for reading. I hope you guys enjoy the hard work
:)
