Game Update #27 in sequence (file #105]

Admin notes: None

[Recap]
From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions]
(I'm assuming that when Rider #2 fell to the ground, Ben'Dar
held onto his spear) Ben'Dar skewers Rider #3 with his
spear, and at the same time, he lets Tef'wo rear up to do
a slashing hoof attack at Rider #3.
Once Rider #3 is taken care of, Ben'Dar will see the injured
leader-alone on the ground-without his horse. (assuming the
leaders still alive and still unhorsed at that point) If
the leader is moving at all, Ben'Dar will charge him with
Tef'wo and attempt to ride over him with a trample attack.
If the leader has gotten back on his horse somehow, Ben'Dar
will do a charge attack on him instead, with attacks from
both Ben'Dar's spear and Tef'wo.
If the leader is dead (or not moving), Ben'Dar will wheel
Tef'wo about and charge at the nearest living rider
(probably #6). He'll attack with his spear and Tef'wo.
If any of the Ser'manda warriors realize that they're losing
and try to flee, Ben'Dar will shout, "Don't let them get
away! They will bring back an army on us!" He will give
chase and if he can catch them, he'll attack with the spear.
If he can't catch them, he'll drop his spear and begin firing
his bow while riding after them.
GM: Held spear. Yes. But didn't give a horse attack at this
close quarter due to the nature of the charge and the attack.
If it was just a simple thrust attack instead of a complete
shewer (front to back) the force of the attack would have
made things difficult physically. Ack on other actions.
-------------------
From Unali: [Re: Actions]
Unali sees only #10 left as a potential target. She pulls
two daggers and attacks two-weapons offensively.
[I see nothing in the rules that prohibits this. Should be
possible for a good rider with a trained horse I think. Yep,
requires skill and a good mount. Let's see if she has both.]
GM: Will allow it as well. But if there is attacks that force
you off a horse like a shield bash/shove, rope attack or
a full blown side swipe attack the chances of staying on a
horse is lower since your balancing your arms/hands on
weapons and not horse reigns. Only your legs and thigs will
keep you on the horse at that point. This is just for anyone
trying such attacks not just you.
-------------------
From Strie'bog: [Re: Actions]
Strie'bog to Boyzdar: "Guard, your chance will come."
He looks over the battlefield. Can he pick out the rider
that 'started' this by charging (I did not see a number
associated with him)? If so, he will make that his target.
For right now, he will hold back from the charge (he's still
not a great horseman) and fire his bow. He will do this
until the two units move into melee range. He will then
move forward.
One last thing, if he sees active magic coming from others,
he will use his Fire Arrow at EL 0 (if I remember, that makes
it a 1 phase casting time, and he can fire as per your
previous ruling). That should be it.
GM: Ack. The young rider was #6 I believe. Still alive.
-------------------
From Chion: [Re: Actions]
Chion whips out something unkown to the party. He holds it
up and directs its small round end towards the group fighting.
A small click is heard. A piece of paper like substance comes
from the front. He tears it from the contraption and starts
shaking it. After a few seconds he gets out his quill and
ink and labels it "welcome to the plains" in Chosai.
GM: Hrm...Z'leyra I think Chion has eaten a old mushroom and
may need help in curing whatever trip hes on :) Not sure
if this is a tease action or what :)
-------------------
From Jordi: [Re: Actions]
Jordi will charge rider #11 with his spear. After that,
unless Kasha is in dire straits, he will try to move to attack
riders 6,7 and 8 (obviously, only one of them) from their back.
If he can reach them by the end of the 2 round, he will throw
the spear at one of them -one who doesn't know Jordi is
attacking him is the preferred target-.
Whooops!!!!! I wanted to say "will charge rider #10"...charging
a dead enemy won't be very useful!!!
GM: Ahh C'mon charging a dead rider might be fun! Ack :)
-------------------
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra advances towards the enemy, going left to avoid
Caladan's electrical show. She will melee, striking to subdue.
Offensive with dagger and defensive with shield.
GM: Ack. Got your actions actually after I finished the
update. But it didn't matter as you didn't get to them :<
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[New Stuff]
Sepes 36, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 198 Miles
North of Asichi City
Turn 2: Phase 1
[Mana Allocation]
Caladan allocates some quick mana for a quick spell.
[Missile Fire]
Thig aims at Rider #3 but could hit Ben'dar so turns
to face #6 but could hit Caladan so he quickly spins
around again and quick shoots at Rider #8. The
repeating crossbow goes off but misses the rider...
Balrog sees #4 fall and turns to see #3 attacking
Ben'dar. Balrog quickly grabs a throwing dagger
from his Saddle tucked in spot and with his left hand
throws it straight for #3. Rider #3 doesn't even see
it coming and the dagger impacts right into the left
side of the man's neck. The blade punctures, rips
the vocal chords and adam's apple then pokes out the
other side from the force of the throw. The damage
is 12 and he dies before the blade rests in place.
Balrog looks at Ben'dar and grins.
[Magic Effect]
Having planned this move in his mind...though hoping
to have at least 6 of the riders in his area...Caladan
casts his sleep mist spell. The lightning swarm
immediately ends when he makes the horse move just
the slightest. He waves his arm and a steady stream
of mist forms 10 feet around him in every direction.
This catches 6, 7 and 8 before they can flee in the
next segment. Having low MDVs all riders suddenly get
drowsy and fall off their horses onto the ground nad
fall asleep. Caladan smiles in satisfaction.
[Melee & Movement]
[This just leaves Rider #10 alone.]
Ben'dar sees Balrog's attack on #3. He spots the
leader on the ground still not moving. He glances
over his shoulder and sees the other 3 going toward
Caladan now on the ground. The only rider still on
his horse is #10. He turns Tef'wo to the right and
gallops that 40 feet or so toward the rider. Ben'dar
then stops and thrusts his spear into the man doing 8
points of damage. This kills the rider who falls to
the ground.
[Combat is Over]
Time: 15 Seconds - What happened to those long 3 hour Cowboy
and Indian war flicks we saw were battles were long ? Geesh!
[Caladan looks over the battlefield then speaks quickly before
anyone reacts.]
Caladan: "Don't kill any that are still alive. We need them
to remain alive. Same for those knocked out. Someone
gather the horses. I'll explain shortly. We need to
tie these three up since the spell will only last as long as
the combat did."
[Balrog gathers his dagger and quickly cleans it with the
dead man's cloth. He, Trembyl and Kasha gather the enemy
horses. Caladan, Jordi and Ben'dar quickly tie up the
three with rope Caladan had in his bag.]
GM: Its quickly determined -
Dead - 1, 2, 3, 4*, 5, 10, 11
#4 Died during clean up from blood loss
Sleep - 6, 7**, 8**
#7 - At 56% Health [Moderate - But not a mortal wound]
#8 - At 30% Health [Minor - But not a mortal wound]
Unconscious - #9 (Leader)
This leaves 4 survivors of the group of the battle out of the
11. #9 was only knocked out but the wounds weren't sufficient
to bleed out. He can be patched up. Same for #7 and #8 with
minor first aid (couple bandages).
Loot - Weapons - 7 Scimitar, 6 Buckler, 6 Bows,
and 4 Lances. Assorted Arrows/Quivers
Armor - Leather (#6) Undamaged Armor
Banded (#5) Damaged armor
Banded (#8) Damaged Armor
OTher - Minor food items, animal pelts, clothing, etc.
Damage to Players - Farseeker - 3 [Minor] 94% of Max
Ben'dar - 7 [Moderate] 76% of Max

Balrog 9 - 2 Short Sword to #4
7 - 2 Throwing dagger to #3
GM: No skill or EL increases. Hope I didn't forget anyone.
Ben'dar and Balrog tie for MVP in this battle. :)
Sorry for those who didn't get experience. Have to get
those actions in fast and get in the thick of things since
fights are fast at times. Even Trembyl's illusion which
soon goes away didn't get much of a chance to act :<
-------------------
[The horses are all gathered up. Sentries are posted to make
sure no reinforcements come. Farseeker inspects his wound
and armor. The armor can easilly be fixed and is not damaged
enough to worry about. Ben'dar's hide armor is the same thing
but as to healing Farseeker shrugs it off. Just a light
bandaging is all he needs. Ben'dar will have to decide who
and if he wishes to be healed or go the natural healing route.
Those asleep soon wake up and find themselves tied and surrounded.
The leader is also tied up after his wounds are tended to.
It takes 2 minutes for the leader to wake up from being knocked
out by his 2 arrow wounds.
One of the tied warriors is the same young warrior who started
the whole thing #6. Caladan gathers some of the party away
from earshot to explains.
Caladan: "I knew there was going to be a battle based on the
young one's actions and gestures. It was a ritual I've seen
before to gain honor. Once he was humilated it was a
certain bet he would attack and his buddies would come to his
help. I didn't have time to warn you guys to try not to
kill them but knock them out. But either way its done with
for now. The Ser'manda are known to me as well as Ben'dar's
tribe are in some ways. Being neighbors I grew up seeing
and hearing their customs as distinct as my people's
In this cast they are all still shamed warriors. Outcasts
likley living on their own and with no say so from the
local tribe. I was able to detect the signs of their shame
even hidden on their persons. For you see they can hide
their shame but are still required to show it in some way.
This means some can use tricky ways to not show the signs
of their shame like hiding most of the beads or a tatoo
by clothing but still have to show just a tiny bit.
Likley, these sought us out for battle to gain their honor
back. Killing a group...on their lands....which is their
right...and as powerful and unique as ours would surely
have regained their honor back. Those who have died already
have gained that honor by their custom. The rest will
be up to them..." [He turns and waves for the party to
follow]
[Caladan walks over to the four survivors. He then begins
to speak in Zen'dali which some can follow and others have
to strain to understand. A full translation can be given
later however.]
Caladan: "It was foolish to fight us. This young one may
have the right to attack us but it was still foolish."
Leader: "The odds were even they seemed at the time. What
will you do now?"
Caladan: "That is up to you. Your friends are all dead.
Some having been killed in extreme and painful ways.
They have gained their honor more than likely. [The
Zen'da captured nod slightly to this] "But you have been
captured and knocked out in battle. Three were wounded
which might be sufificent to gain your honor back but
the one wounded...Oddly enough the same one who started
this battle wasn't wounded. He is a backhead of a nag
in my eyes and your tribe's likely. [The warriors look
at #6 and sneer] "If we kill him he and his family likely
will be shamed further. I, and I'm sure my friends here,
don't wish to do that. We don't kill needlessly unless
we are defending ourselves. So " [he bends down to be
at eye level with the leader] "...we can let you go back
to your people. Speak of the battle. Speak of us. Those
who died here may gain their honor back. That is up to
your elders to decide. You three wounded may even be
allowed back in. As to this ...Keyza " [The word seems
to be some insult in zen'dali only those fluent in the
language understand but those who don't get the jist] "...
will be shamed..no doubt about it. I think he should
live for this and learn wisdom from it. Not to pick
fights with just any one he meets. Do you agree?"
Leader: [After a pause] "...Yes..."
Caladan: "Good. We'll let you leave shortly. How far
is your people from here?"
Warrior: "Do not say!"
Caladan: "We will intend no harm to them. If we want the
information we can gain it. We have ways..." [He points
to Thig and Jordi to show a uncommon sight to the warriors]
"of obtaining information even without your help. But
we will not do so. How far?"
Leader: "A day's fast right to the east."
Caladan: "Good by that time we'll be two days ahead of you
so you won't be able to find us. By then we'll likely
be out of Ser'manda territory. Let your people know we
only travel through your lands to get to my lands."
[The warriors then realize which tribe he must belong to.
To this subtle understanding Caladan nods. Caladan stands
and turns away to see if anyone in the party argues.]
Farseeker: "Ahh. One matter. What was he [the young #6]
doing on the raft with the others coming from the north?"
[Caldan's eyebrows raises. He turns and asks the leader]
Leader: "...He-"
Warrior: "Do not--"
Leader: "Hush! We had to scout up north and do some...
[he lowers his head] hunting..."
Caladan: "In my tribal lands?" [He says calmly with
the Firesnake hissing at the leader on Caladan's arms.]
Leader: "Yes. We were ...hungry. We had to Sundancer."
[A feeling of pity overcomes Caladan and he knows the shamed
likely get no food from the local tribes at all. So they
must depend on their own for survival. Caladan nods and
stands and walks away.]
[Trembyl walks toward Caladan and asks]
Trembyl: "He called you Sundancer? "
Caladan: "It is a ...honorific of sorts fo rme. Many
Zen'da have some form of name that describes them
like Cloud Walker or Snake Arms. In my cast its
the fire magic I use and ..other things. The snake
I hold...my history among my people..."
Kasha: "So these warriors know you?"
Caladan: "It would seem so."
Kasha: "That seems odd they would still fight with a person
who can fire a fireball to toast the whole lot?"
Caladan: "It brings them more honor to kill a mighty warrior.
Plus ...I suppose stories get around about me.." [At this
he looks to the south and grabs his snake. He then
quickly mounts his horse and goes off for a short distance
to be alone.]
GM: I the above plan to free the warriors when the party
leaves is ok then it will be done. If anyone disagrees
then let me know. Ben'dar will need to visit the river
to clean Tef'wo, spear and Ben'dar's clothing/armor. As
the gored warrior's gusts and blood are all over them
to a great deal. This clean up will likely take about
15 minutes in total.
-----------------------------Part 2 -------------------------
[The Encounter was at 9:39am and lasts less than a minute.
By a few minutes after 10am the party will leave either
way from the decision above. The party continues north
and makes it another 14 miles before the sun begins to
darken the skies and camp has to be made.]
[During the trip Caladan stays quiet to himself while others
chat or sing. When camp is setup Caladan states]
Caladan: "We should be safe. we've passed into Ga'Fel'ora
lands about 10 miles ago if I got the land marks right.
For the most part we are in friendly territory."
[That night it gets cool again. Sentries are posted. Just
to ensure one sentry stays in camp by the ire. One stays
around the perimeter in a walking patrol while another
stays on horse and patrols within about 500 feet.]
[The party sets on 2 hour watches with 3 people always awake
as sentries during the night time. By now the party has
gained his trust and allows Strie'bog to stand guard with
the wolf. During the last watch Farseeker serves as horse
sentry to patrol the area. Thig serves as walking or in
his case flying sentry in the immediate camp area. While
Strie'bog stands guard at the camp fire. The camp as always
is about 200 odd feet away rom the river. This allows easy
watering, bathing and protection benefits.]
[Around 5:30am -
Farseeker decides to let his horse drink some water. AFter
an hour's of constant tromping around the area the horse
could use a rest. The moon is not out and its pretty dark.
Farseeker carries a small torch with him both as lightning,
warning beacon to intruders/animals and as protection in
some regards. He dismounts the horse and watches the river
roll by as the horse drinks. Suddenly the horse neighs
loudly and stomps its feet. It begins to back away from
the water. Farseeker breaks his own instinctual training
and turns his back against the water to grab the horse's
ropes to stop him. Farseeker tries to stop the horse and
figures out what the problem is. He settles the horse
and turns back around to watch the water. The horse
calms down a bit but still seems jittery. Farseeker soothes
the horse down and turns around to stroke him. He decides
to mount the horse and head back to camp. Just as he truns
around again a dark shape lunges at him. Two hands seem
to slap or grab or grapple Farseeker. Suddenly Farseeker
gives out a cry of pain as something hot hits the chainmail
and penetrates. He takes some minor damage. Farseeker tries
to bash the figure with his torch but it stumbles out o his
hand and falls to the ground. Suddenly Farseeker fings himself
being thrown by something to the ground and he hits the ground.
Then before he can react he is starting to be pulled to the
river....He still has his great sword to his side but nothing
smaller. Instinctively he grabs the rope to the horse and
holds it tightly as he struggles against the figure. He
also tries to grab his great sword but finds it dificult.
Within seconds he feels water hit him as he is drawn into
the water. Within 2 seconds he is pulled underwater. He
grasps and struggles against figure...or figures? He is able
now to move better so he kicks out at the figure who takes
the kick and backs off a split second. This gives Farseeker
enough time to rise to the surface and take in air. In
between gasps he yells to the horse "Back!". The horse
hears and obeys as it begins to back up. By this time the
horse is already scared enough it doesn't need to be ordered
twice. It picks up speed going backwards and the rope around
Farseeker's hands pulls taunt and then begins to pull Farseeker
back to the river bank.
Meanwhile at camp...
Thig stops flapping and lands on the ground. He cocks his
head and looks to the 2 dogs near him who are also awake
with him. He turns to Strie'bog. "Did you hear that?"
Meanwhile back at the river..
The horse's strength pulls Farseeker out of the water and
begins to strain as the body hits the ground and resistance.
By now Farseeker is just trying to breath. Then another
form seems to lunge at Farseeker's legs. Farseeker accidently
at this point lets go of the rope to try to hit the form
with his fist. He realizes his mistake too late. The
horse now with no resistance turns and bolts to the camp.
Meanwhile at the camp...
A horse comes fast into the camp and stops. Its agitated
and looks at Strie'bog as it calms down. Thig flies over
to it and insepcts it. "Farseeker is not here. That's
not good. It came from the direction of the river. I'm
heading that way. Wake up the others and get a sentry
ready in case of trouble."
Thig takes to the air and flies toward the River in the
darkness.
