[Recap]
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
"Z'leyra...can you stop the Vong from bleeding to death? ...
"I'll bind him." Kiet then ties him with rope. If there is a
post near by, I'll tie him to it.
Assuming that Z will help out (and if she won't then Kiet will
do his best with his own healing kit to stop the bleeding),
once the Vong recovers consciousness and starts to talk...and
Kiet will 'encourage' it to do so. Kiet will cast Tongues at
Max EL and with the extra mana required to learn the language
permanently.
"If we can get him talking, some of us can learn his l....
Kiet will spend time examining the bodies...looking for
differences in their appearance...studying them for copying in
the future. he's also going to check to see where they are
vulnerable...what are their weak points...places he might use
to kill them if up close and personal.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Still being insubstantial and invisible (hard to bandage someone
while insubstantial) Z'leyra determines that her best action
would be to continue scouting. So she recasts Bal Levitation at
ELmax and goes to scout out the other buildings. She will recast
invisibility and insubstantial if necessary.
[Any sign of those nasty bugs around...or did they fall dormant
when the controlling Vong ceased conscious control?]
GM: Ack.
From Will: [Re: Actions]
Will watches fascinated by the self repairing armour. Then he
thinks that he would like to question the Vong if he can find a
way.
He then says "Ive tried patching up my pet wolf but never any
creature like this"
He then does the best he can to stop the bleeding until someone
better than he is at this can get there.
After seeing how things go with the restraint and first aid for
the captive he will use a flight spell to quickly fly up to the
roof surveying the scene and retrieving his daggers and arrows.
He will be cautions as he approaches making sure there are no
active Vong in sight before landing on the roof. Making sure he
lands on the spot where he was shooting at the first Vong so that
he knows it is solid and not going to collapse like some parts of
the roof. Then he will move down the ladder collecting his arrows
as he goes. When his horse arrives he will also take out his
reserve daggers and put a couple in his belt and a couple in his
boots.
Does Araw n have any have any skill as a healer? I think Z' is
temporally unavailable
GM: Ack.
From Unali: [Re: Vong prisoner]
[OOC: Even though I like the plan of learning Vong language,
Unali would not allow it at this time, with a possible battle
in the other buildings and a regenerating Vong which is quite
difficult to control.]
"Now let's stick together and explore those buildings [starting
with E] to make sure there is no more anti-magic her but the bus
that are down already."
GM: Ack. This line - "her but the bus" I assume is here and bugs.
So I changed it below. I hope that's the meaning. :)

[New Stuff]
[Julis 26th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province]
[ 20 Miles south of Shantou City ]
[ Old Shantou Carnival Grounds ]
[Time: 2:29:40pm - 2:31:00pm]
Kiet drove the wagon nearby and sets the brake. Not waiting
to check on Zhou he hops off and rushes to help the others. When
it soon becomes clear one Vong still remains he looks around for
Z'leyra but doesn't see her at all. He raises his voice loud in
hopes she is around but unseen.
"Z'leyra...," Kiet begins, "can you stop the Vong from bleeding
to death? If we can question him, using the Tongues spell, we
might at least learn their language."
"I'll bind him." Kiet then ties him with rope after he gathers
up the rope to tie his hands and legs.
As Kiet binds the prisoner's legs he continues. "If we can get
him talking, some of us can learn his language. Those of us that
can cast personal illusions could then cast spells to make us
look like Vong and then be able to talk like Vong...and maybe it
will give us some element of surprise that we obviously need
against these things."
Z'leyra having scouted out the Barn to ensure no other Vong
exist now hovers just outside the front door. Invisible,
insubstantial and levitating she scans the dirt below. This
is where the bugs from the swarm were. Surely if they had hit
Fremea they would've killed her The bugs look innocent almost
cute like bees or larger lady bugs. But their carapace shells
seem larger and likely thicker. If only she could hold some of
them. The bugs are not moving and seem either dead or dormant.
As Z'leyra examines the bugs Kiet and Will examine the prisoner.
Neither man has healer skill but it doesn't take a healer to
know pressure on wounds stops bleeding. As one rips through
the thick leather tunic, with some effort in fact with his
dagger, the other man inspects the obvious wounds. The Vong
blood is a dark black with a small flake of pink in it that
seems almost like it is random spots in the blood. The blood
smells not like human blood but more acidic smelling as almost
like sulfur but not quite. As Kiet applies pressure to the wounds
to stop the bleeding he looks at the sleeping Vong ugly face.
Will is fascinated by the Vong Crab Armor. It is very much
like what has been described. It is almost like an external
rib cage. The lobster like body is in the center of the chest
and below where the indentation where the neck meets the
ribs and where healers slice a hole in the humans for them to
breath if a blocked throat. It extends all the way to the
belly button area, if they have one but one isn't see. At the
top and covering the spot the healers cut into to let folks
breath sits the head of the crab lobster creature. It is a rather
small head but has two eyestalk like extensions that wiggle and
writhe about even as both men work on him. Over the ribs the lobster
"legs" extend out and around the rib cage and seem to completely
encase the Vong to the back. Making this creature have one long
leg that wraps around the entire chest and back. There are tiny
gaps between each leg of the crab armor but the creature seems to
move slightly enough to make the gaps open and close. Will seems
to figure if these creatures are symbiotic in nature the Vong
might be able to release it somehow and remove it. He wonders
if these things are grown like the amphistaff to work with a
particular person. Will notices one leg is sliced when the
leather was opened up and before his eyes the leg heals that
area quickly and forms back as if nothing happened. The news
of their powerful armor is true. If the armor regrows it means
the damage has to be massive to be effective.
Will's arrows did enough damage as well as Kell's Whirlwind
to take this Vong down. Kiet stops the bleeding on his shoulder
and checks for other vitals and wounds. The Whirlwind seems to
have taken damage in the form of abrasions, subdual and minor
bruises.
Z'leyra hears Kiet's pleas nearby but seems to ignore the
acrobat. Kiet becomes frustrated when Z'leyra isn't here to
help him. He glances up to the east and sees Arawn still a few
seconds to arrive.
It doesn't take much investigation for Kiet to figure out
weak points. Like the demonstration on the ship by Farseeker
the head seems to be a weak point. During the trip that was
the first time the battle mind was used. While the skull seems
to be thick it has no armor. The armor seems to go around his
shoulders and wrap down in some extension of its body but doesn't
go over the neck or skull.
Zhou helps the blind Whitney outside and leans him against the
wagon. He turns to Kiet and reminds him. "You won't learn much
from him. Remember these folks enjoy torture and use self
mutilation as a gift to their gods. If anything you'll honor
him to his gods more likely."
Unali clears her throat and twirls her daggers. Slightly but
not badly wounded she belts her daggers and looks around at the
scene. The group made her the de facto leader awhile back and
Zhou the generic mission-for-dark-lands leader. But the two
people who are at most stake here are Chion and Unali. Chion
has been quiet and no one spoke up against Unali being leader
so Unali steps up again and gains some control of the situation.
To her this is a personal thing. If the mission here fails it
will not only mean her homeland, family and friends but also
the world. She knows others here like Arawn has little at
stake in this magic-forsaken land.
Fremea scans the area as well and the Vong. She senses nothing
at all from them. The absence of mana is true. Even the grass
around them has some very minor minute mana but not the Vong or
their gear. She is confused and fascinated by this. She
looks to the bugs and can get a very odd sense of someone nearby
through a disturbance in the mana energy field. This ability
to sense invisible and insubstantial people is random but if
she knows the signature she has a better chance. She looks
around and takes a quick tally. Only Z'leyra is missing and
she instinctively questions it by saying her name. Others look
at the barn front and wonder if Z'leyra is there.
Z'leyra like a ghost turns south and scans the buildings ready
to teleport or move. The distance is about 150 feet to the next
building.
This is when Unali sighs and speaks up loud so the entire group
can hear her. Even now Arawn begins to get within 30 feet of the
others so can hear her. "If we could for once work as a team
instead of as a group of hotheads, we might avoid getting killed.
Some here just avoided a one-way trip to their parents in just a
minor skirmish. If we continue this way, we will not succeed in
our mission. Running off to play the hero is not the way to go.
We are dealing with Vong, not bear cubs."
"I love going solo as much, and more, as any of you. It is my
training, but most here need some back cover to survive. If you
would just realize that, we can be far more effective."
"They can return from the dead, or close, if you don't watch
carefully. And they can see when magic is used, and maybe even
sense it, and have devised some quite devious countermeasures
with these new bugs. So letting them see you use magic, if they
carry these bags-o-bugs with them, is not a survival strategy.
Using magic in Katai never was a surviving strategy anyways."
As Unali speaks the battle is replayed in many heads. The
Vong Flyer did seem to sense Fremea as a magic user and almost
without hesitation turn to her. Was that before or after she
used magic though? The Vong sensing magic when they saw Arawn
used their bugs immediately on them. Then when Fremea appeared
the Vong tried bugs on her again. It doesn't make sense that
the creatures might detect magic if they hate magic. But
it might make sense they can see magic and therefore make the
quick decisions on who to kill first.
Unali turns to where Z'leyra is levitating, where Fremea seemed
to detect her and make her presence known. Then with purpose
Unali continues, "And that holds for you as well."]
Unali then turns to the others and says, "We are here to kill
Vong, not pamper them."
Unali then pulls out a normal dagger from her belt and with deft
fingers twirls it like a professional. She walks quickly over to
the prisoner and kneels down. She examines the prisoner and
the first aid Kiet has done. Only now is Arawn dismounting and
approaching Kell first to check him. Kiet knows Kell is more
important but the prisoner would be seen soon by Arawn.
Unali sighs and shakes her head. She quickly raises and with
force stabs the Vong in between the two eye stalks and up into
the Vong's neck where is not armored. The Vong coughs up
thick black blood and then releases the final breath. Kiet
and Will stare at Unali in shock as she kills the Vong and stands.
Wiping the blood with the Vong's own clean leathers she belts
it and walks away.
Unali approaches her borrowed horse. "Now let's stick together
and explore those buildings to make sure there is no more anti-
magic here but the bugs that are down already."
Unali remounts the borrowed horse and starts at a slow pace
first, to see if everybody follows.
Farseeker nods in agreement, "our surprise is over. If they
are there they know we are here. The faster we act the better
we can deal with it."
Kiet glances over to Zhou briefly as he now releases the
ropes around the now dead prisoner. Zhou nods grimly. "It
would have been useless Kiet. For one to do this language
spell of yours would've been a direct spell on him. You
could very well end up like Whitney here." He points to the
blind man who remains standing silently to the side of the
wagon. "..or worse. As to questions to him. That's not
going to happen likely. The records were clear. the Zen'da
shamans are masters of torture. They for sport pour honey
on a man's face then pour a ant swarm on their head. They
enjoy the ants eating the eyes. They did this and worse to
the Vong and they seemed to enjoy it! They even taunted
the shamans. Though the illusion plan might be useful I
doubt you could learn much or do anything to gain that info."
Will grunts and as the others gather up objects from lost
ammo to reshifting gears on horses the man casts a quick
flight spell. He uses the wind currents to lift himself
up to the roof. AS he skims the roof he grabs his daggers
and floats through the hole. Going a bit fast he tries to
gather up as many of his fired arrows as he can from the
roof and second floor. He then flies out the barn loft door
on the second floor and floats around the group for a few
seconds waiting for the spell to end. As Will floats around
he shifts the daggers in his belt that he restorked from his
horse and supplies.
Kell grumbles and knows he could use that flight spell for
his whirlwind. Maybe he can learn it from Will.
Zhou glances to Unali. "Unali do we have time to tend to
the wounded? Over half the group got wounded in this first
battle and it was only 7 of them."
As some in the group scan the distance to the south the
next building closest is a one story structure. It is about
100 feet wide on this side and from the east it was about 100
feet on that side so 100 by 100 feet. the building is made
of white stone and light red brick. It seems to actually be
well maintained with little visible damage or issues. The
roof looks far more sturdy than the barn from this angle.
On this side facing south from north there are no windows but
a door was seen on the east side coming this way. The next
building south of it is another 100 feet beyond the other
one. Even as a group the wagon and all should get to it within
just a few seconds.

Next Update...Monday...
GM: Awhile back folks said it was ok for Unali to lead. So
she has taken the reigns once again. To rally the troops.
The below info is for my notes and yours. If you wish to
be treated or magically healed let me know. Looks like
unless Z'leyra becomes solid it'll have to be one of the
other healers like Arawn, Fremea, Raban if they wish to
spend the mana. Some are low on mana as is. I suspect
Unali doesn't mind scouts as long as it is with the
full party as backup. Sending someone way off with
no backup like Kell did and others half a mile away
was dangerous. If I know Unali enough she won't care
if scouts do their job just with the others. but
I could be wrong. :) If there are no big plan shifts
I'll move the full group to the next building (E). For
reminder on that map see the website. i'll include
a map of the building in next update likely.
