[Recap]
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
Raban will watch the patrol warily as a Guard should while he
wonders about the captive. Fortunately it is not some poor abused
girl, taking one from bandits is much different than from the
patrols...Or should be, sometimes there is little difference
between such people.
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
- The Women-
Arawn will vote to give the women the money to aid them in their
recovery (or at least a share of it if anyone doesn't want to give
them all of the profits from the bandit leader). Arawn will also
ask for descriptions of the missing children and about how far
away they think they are from where the children were last seen.
If they seem to be within range of a Sky Knowledge spell then
Arawn will cast it out of sight of the women and attempt to
locate the children and their status.

Striebog- "Would either of you be willing to play your....

Arawn returns a knowing look Fremea's way. He doesn't recall
sensing other sources of magic so hopes that the soldiers do not
carry a mana detector. Keeping an eye on the bound man and his
entourage he whispers to the party.
"He's a wizard, with an aura similiar to Caladan's."
Stretching his senses further he attempts to Mana Read the man's
aura in an effort to see what his Orientation might be.
GM: Ack. Search for a kid with black hair in a land of kids
of black hair. Interesting.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
<I forget what instruments Raban may have with him. Drum, mandolin
or pan pipe are his best, then pan pipe should be most applicable
depending on technique used <ok check sheet says has drum and pan
pipe, mandolin was left behind
Raban smiles, "I would be glad to help the women in any way....
GM: Ack. Correct. I made the section "left at dark lands" for those
items left behind for most characters. Some who took all I didn't
but pretty much did it that way for easy viewing.

Arawn listened, nodding his head gently as he did so.

From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
"I think the gods have blessed you in many, many ways,....
Scott, Arawn will use Mana Sensing followed by Mana Reading to
get a better idea as to the nature of Raban's power. If that
isn't enough let me know and I'll see about casting other spells
for further insight.
GM: Ack. Since didn't say would be private I'll post the results
below.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra makes an effort to examine all weapons, armor and pieces
of jewelry found both in order to appraise their value and to see
if their is anything new to learn from them.
Pondering the coral Z'leyra wonders and ponders many possibilities
for its removal or even communication with it. She continues to
use her healing skills to help the woman get stronger.
Regarding the bound wizard...Z'leyra will comment "Perhaps ....

GM: Ack. Not too much maybe just a tad sidetracked. But still
good role playing stuff. Noted for future experience.
From Will: [Re: Actions]
OOC: Will is up for some sort of a rescue but I think it
would be best if both the conversation and the attempt were
made some time after the wizard and his captors pass by with
that in mind....
Will when he hears the information on the captive will say "I...
OOC: With that he would be open to a discussion of how we might
be able to surreptitiously facilitate his freedom. It would seem
to me to be best if it were far enough away so as not to implicate
the party.
GM: Ack.

[New Stuff]
[Julis 28th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province]
[Time: 3:00pm]
Arawn asks the rescued women about the children. They
simply acknowledge they have no idea where they are. More
likely they escaped with no harm. Arawn is given a description
but the problem with tracking them down is there are millions
of kids with the same description as there isn't nothing
special about them. So finding them with a spell based on
that generic description is near impossible. It would be like
searching for a red apple in a food market full of farm stalls.
Arawn is smart enough to realize it would give too many false
responses and would be on false leads for weeks.
The women explain they will find the children they are sure.
Kids do get some coin in slave areas but women are higher
profit for the brothels and pleasure bond slaves. The kids
likely hid so well the women believe when others came across
the caravan they took them to the next town. This thing sadly
is so common that is typically what happens.

[Time: 8:48pm]
Arawn is glad to see the baroness wake up briefly from her
ordeal. He listens to her story and then begins to ask her
several questions.
First Arawn asks, "Did the Vong seem focused on certain mines
over others- the larger ones, I'm assuming? And can you recall
which one or where those might be?"
She shakes her head. "I have staff to keep track of the mines
and where they are and what they produce. I do not take
care of that information. I got the impression they weren't
so interested in the mine's production or value but rather
how big it was inside. Like they wanted to have shelter or
hide something."
Arawn then asks, "We've been working on trying to remove the
implants but still aren't sure on how to proceed. They did seem
to respond, if only slightly, to certain sounds. Do you recall at
any time after the coral was implanted if they might have held
anything near it- an energy source or noise-maker perhaps, and,
if so, what can you recall about it?"
The noble older woman furrows her brow in thought. "No.
I was in pain and then they tied me up...striped me..placed
me in that thing they called the Embrace of Pain. I don't
recall any sounds or ...what did you say? Energy?" She
glances closer at Arawn and then at others. Arawn wonders
if he hinted too much. Could she be thinking these people
are magic users? After some long moments of inner though
she turns back to Arawn. "I only heard her mention that the
servant would be controlled by what she had on her belt.
The servant was killed though before his implants too place."
Arawn recalls the carnival owner did mention their helper was
found dead after the battle. He was trying to help the
family and the warriors killed him.
***********
[Julis 29th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province]
[ Around 60 odd miles south of Shantou city]
[Time: 6:49am]
Before camp is broken Arawn decides to cast some more spells.
Zhou clearly finds the idea of casting magic here very bad.
he keeps muttering to himself, "do they ever listen to the
high Elder?" But it seems Arawn is not concerned in using
simple magic when it could bring the full might of the Empire
upon the party.
Arawn casts a powerful purification spell upon the ground below
his feet. It is no where near as powerful as Z'leyra's own
version of the spell but it will cause this ground to be
detected for some time. For this reason Arawn finds a patch
of ground behind a bush away from the road. He then does
a quick casting of Wisdom and Knowledge. As he completes
the Elder purification he senses he becomes slightly stronger
the spell now. When Wisdom is finished minutes later he finds
his mind full of more information related to the rites of
Battle Mind. In fact he feels so much more informed that
he feels he could cast it stronger now. When his knowledge
download is complete he doesn't feel as informed on his
Code/Decode spell but a nevertheless slightly stronger.
Arawn gathers Will for another Healing Mist spell to heal his
lost energy. While Arawn is targeting Will it will also affect
the Alfar. But if one heals fully the other will still need
more healing. The spell is cast and soon Will becomes fully
back to normal feeling as strong as ever. But Arawn still feels
a b it drained.
Arawn is forced to cast another healing mist upon himself
this time and he soon finally becomes fully energized.
***********
[Time: 12:45pm]
The Katai military patrol rides further north looking as
stern and alert as a group transporting a lion on a leash
through a city street full of people.
Raban will watch the patrol warily as a Guard should while he
wonders about the captive. Fortunately it is not some poor abused
girl, taking one from bandits is much different than from the
patrols...Or should be, sometimes there is little difference
between such people.
Raban's instinct to come to the rescue of a woman in need
is not present here. This is a poor captive in his early
20s or so and not even great looking. Raban glances around
at the party briefly to judge their reaction.
Arawn returns a knowing look Fremea's way. He doesn't recall
sensing other sources of magic so hopes that the soldiers do not
carry a mana detector. Keeping an eye on the bound man and his
entourage he whispers to the party. "He's a wizard, with an aura
similar to Caladan's."
Z'leyra will comment "Perhaps after they are a few miles down
the road that bound wizard might mysteriously vanish from his
keepers? I can think of several possible ways for that to occur.
Perhaps a whisper in his ear to accept a spell then invisibility
and levitation? Or perhaps a teleportation? Plenty of other
techniques spring to mind...some perhaps helped by something to
divert the attention of the guards. But I wouldn't want the wizard
to join us unless I could look into his soul."
Responding quietly while maintaining a casual stance Arawn
replied, "I did not sense any other mystical aura's so there is a
chance that they are lacking a detection device, though I cannot
be absolutely certain. Still, I would be up for trailing after
them, maybe with a few others and coming up with a plan to free
him. Perhaps a telepathic connection can be made to coordinate
with the mage? Then we might follow through with a teleport,
illusions, or a shape change among other ideas."
Arawn quietly comments, "All fine ideas and I can understand
your concern in regards to joining up with us, if that becomes
an option. Though, for what it's worth, I can see that he is
allied with the forces of Law."
Arawn reconfirms his quick study of the wizard. He uses mana
reading and his racial ability to sense what the captive wizard
is about. He confirms the human is definitely lawful and his
strength is not so great a bit less than Caladan's. Likely not
an apprentice but not a master either.
Will when he hears the information on the captive will say "I
hate to see a brother wizard in bondage it would be terrible if
he escaped somehow."
The patrol has rode even closer and almost has passed by the
party now since the talk has begun. Only two or three of
the guards watch the party with alert eyes. The others watch
the road ahead.
Farseeker quickly walks toward Caladan. he whispers to the
wizard. "Stall the patrol for only a minute." Caladan nods
and begins to walk to the road side.
Farseeker then walks toward Arawn slowly so not to draw
attention from the patrol. He begins to speak in low
tones with back to the road. "Arawn, that spell of yours.
I saw you used it once to send someone away from you. Like
that Chion's teleport spell? Transjump or whatever you
call it? Could you send him a dagger? Transjump it inside
his shirt." He glances to do one more quick look at the wizard
who is wearing a heavy silk tunic. It would be better if he
had leather but it will have to do. He turns back to Arawn.
"Place it such a way near his waist so it doesn't show. Maybe
even a small knife. If he can cut his way out of the ropes
and get his gag out he'll have a chance. Maybe even send
the blade into one of his boots? They are covered by his
pants so wouldn't be found and likely would've been searched
by now."
Arawn considers the idea. Could Translocation do such a thing?
It can send people away but a simple object? he hasn't tried.
He knows Chion has certainly done so with equipment. When he
raided Ezam's castle and stole all that treasure he didn't
take people but things. It should work. Maybe one of the
cooking knives small enough to be hidden?
Caladan asks one of the guard leaders, "My Master wanted to
ask how long before we reach the large crossroads town?"
"Back away. We have a dangerous heretic with us." One guard
spits out.
the leader rider looks down and glances at the noble looking
wagon. "If you keep on this road two maybe three days."
Inside the wagon Zhou glances over at Unali hearing what
Farseeker and Arawn discuss. "By your silence I agree we
should avoid rescuing the wizard. We could take the guards
easy but there are too many people on the road we'd have to
deal with. Is one man worth the risk?" He glances to the
baroness and then Fremea. Then he turns back to Unali.
"Arawn could give him a fair chance of escape. For all we
know the wizard once free of his bounds and gag could escape
with a simple teleport spell. He only needs a few critical
seconds to escape."
Outside Farseeker finally asks. "What do you say? If we
rescue him we endanger our mission. It is clear Zhou and
Unali have no interest. Aside from Will it seems no one else
here wishes to rescue him as well. I think if you do this
he'll have a chance." With that he turns and mounts up
on his horse in case some aarty member wildly decides to
attack the patrol.
By now the patrol is just passing the point parallel to the
wagon. In just moments they will pass the group and be
on their way to the next town. All in the party are aware
the risks and know the wizard will surely be executed when
he reaches Katai. He'll likely be tortured and given a very
public execution. Of course it only takes a quick swipe from
those pikes to kill him. If the party even set a foot forward
the guards might panic and do that.
The party also knows that doing it later when the group
is in some town bed down for the night is a good plan as
well. But he'll likely be placed in a local jail cell and
with a constant two or three person guard. There is no
telling if in their bags they have some magic detector.
Could one approach good enough to free him before the
captive and that person is killed?
Arawn eyes the captive wizard as he decides this idea has
some merit but is it worth the risk to do a direct spell
to him around the guards? While he senses no magic in
the group could the bags have something and would it warn
the guards? Likely not if its not visible. As he considers
this option the captive glances at Arawn and makes eye
contact. The young wizard is clearly alert and wary but
he seems determined. his eyes display a sign of not
resignation but possibilities.
***********
[Time: 7:21pm]
At camp and after dinner is finished and the party begins
to relax Arawn approaches Raban and Strie'bog. He has been
thinking of this option for a couple days now and he needs
to see if it will work.
"Would either of you be willing to play your instruments while
watching over the baroness? Fremea's spell seemed to have some
effect on the coral-growth and I'd like to see if it responds to
particular notes or sounds produced by a bard."
Strie'bog rubs his chin. "I can. I still have my balalaika
and a couple instruments."
Raban smiles, "I would be glad to help the women in any way
needed, but I do not know what to play for her. I do not know if I
would see changes quickly enough to judge if the music was wrong
or right, so someone would need to help in that. Worse it could
be the music that hurts her is the one that damages the Coral and
what feels good is aiding the Coral if she is reacting to what the
Coral does to her. But they seemed to want it to hurt so that would
appear unlikely. Too much guesswork is involved, I do not think we
will find an easy answer for this."
Raban seems to blush a bit, "If all else fails, I may suggest
an alternate cure. It is not always reliable but it could work,
some gifts work in mysterious ways."
Strie'bog crosses his arms and looks to the giant. "You should
be good enough a bard to play anything you feel. Remember our
bard matra is to react not act. We play music to fill the
situation and calm our audience. I am sure you will have no
trouble knowing what to play."
Arawn listened, nodding his head gently as he did so. "That's
true. We can speak to the baroness on this when she wakes up.
Both for her agreement and feedback if we proceed," Arawn replied.
"As for the alternate cure, what did you have in mind?"
It has been a day since the baroness was awake long enough to
react to questions. The healers believe this sleep like light
coma may be actually good for her healing process. Her body
to deal with the invasion of the coral. It might just be keeping
the coral like rock structure from growing.
Raban sighs then looks about to see if anyone else can over hear
him. "You know how certain massage techniques can improve healing?
There are other things that can have this effect and more. Any
properly skilled man can make a women feel good, some more so
than others. I seem to have been given a gift in that regards
that goes beyond just feeling good. After I was trained in Bardic
Magic it was obvious to me that this Gift drew upon my soul to
help the women, before that I only saw the results and felt a
little tired. Physical maladies and diseases have been cured this
way at times, but it does not always occur and I may not have any
control over it. So you see I would need her consent to try this
and if it fails to work she could be justifiably upset with me,
though she may not. It would be best I pray for my Goddess's help
as well if this needs to be tried... I would think you could see
this Gift, though since it does not duplicate the usual spells
maybe all you see is that it is there? It is not something I speak
about, it makes me seem desperate and trying to trick a women into
bed and that is something I never need to do. But I do not know
even if it works that it can remove the Coral, I do not know what
it can do beyond what I have seen."
Strie'bog looks around with a glance. No one is around but
the three of them standing to the side of the campfire. The
nearest person is Farseeker and he seems more interested in
the starscape rather than listening in. The bard then turns to
Raban and looks a bit confused. Strie'bog scratches his right
ear with his hand and opens his mouth as if to ask a question
but then closes it.
"There are many mysteries omniverse and yours sounds like an
intriguing one. I had detected something unusual around you
previously, beyond what has already been displayed, but chosen
not to delve deeper as I felt it would have been rude to do so
without need or permission. If you ever decide to give permission
then perhaps we might be able to look into it so you might be able
to understand it better. And I would support your praying for
guidance and will offer my blessings as needed. That aside, we
can always present this as another option to baroness once she is
awake. As I guess at the least that Z'leyra would wish to be
present as another woman's presence could help to alleviate any
worries the baroness may have of untoward intentions on your
part." Arawn speaks to the bard as if fascinated by this topic.
Arawn smiled. "No, I figured that was what you were talking
about. The mystery I referred to was the mystical state and
effects achieved by your copulation. That such a thing occurs is
far from unknown for among the Sidh and among humans, druids
included, there are those that achieve a higher state of being
during such acts, the spirits reaching through various levels of
reality. The difference between you and them, it would seem, is
that yours occurs purely by chance, or at least unconsciously. I
find that intriguing, though I would assume that since it is not
ritually done by you, a bard instead of fertility priest, that
you prefer performing such acts in private, though I say it would
be a fascinating study. It seems you have been blessed by your
mistress. When I return home I would love to hear what she has to
say on this topic," the Alfar mused.
Strie'bog can't help but feel bemused by this strange
conversation. He prevents a smirk to his face. First
Arawn wanted to have Z'leyra watch Raban's ritual now
he wants to include himself. Strie'bog gets a mental
image of Raban in the center of an arena with an audience
watching this strange but exotic erotic ritual.
Raban smiles, "My apologies then, I must have misunderstood you.
I have no performance anxieties, it need not be a private
performance though generally such things are only done for smaller
audiences. In fact my Goddess would prefer it that way, though I
have found many cultures tend to consider it as a criminal act or
at least a questionable one. As I said, my only difficulty with
this is that I cannot control it and the way some would interpret
it. So others have had such things occur? That makes me wonder
more about it as many magical mishaps I have had resulted in a
joining of souls or minds briefly. Maybe that is what this is, a
joining of souls to do the healing and it only works as it does
because that is when our souls become close enough to join
naturally. If that is so then it may be something I can learn to
control better with more practice. Someday I could be able to use
it during massage, though my Goddess would prefer the original
methods there are times they are not practical. As to be expected
from a Druid, you have shown yourself to be very wise and
knowledgeable, I should have thought to ask about this before.
My Goddess rarely speaks to me with more than feelings to tell
me right from wrong. She does think I am neglecting my duties a
bit much even under these conditions. Sadly my horse is too
overburdened or at least one Lady would have helped more with my
duties. I may need to use another bath house when we have a chance
as it is a harmless way that does not draw too much of the wrong
attention. Unfortunately such a brief visit was unfair to the
ladies last time, but that too is part of my duties, some other
lucky man will gain the benefits unknowing..."
"Feel free to examine me however you need too, I doubt I have
many secrets yet to uncover, though I do have a number of small
gifts. I once thought they were some offset for my size, but such
thoughts would mean I see my size as a bad thing. I understand the
Gods work in mysterious ways and do not bestow such gifts without
reason. Just because such reasons are not obvious to me does not
mean they are not there. I tend to not use my other gifts unless
they are greatly needed as too many already see me as a monster.
My goal in life is simply not to prove them right by becoming one
when it if far too easy to do so. Fortunately my good looks,
personality and skills quickly overcomes first impressions based
on my height. Then they find more appreciation for the benefits of
my size, of which there are many. Often my worst problems are
buildings, it pays to wear a good tough cap! Actually the worst is
Dancing, so few places have enough room for me to really dance.
Because of that, my performance is so far below what it should
be. It will take me a long time to surpass my Mother's skill like
she desired, but someday..."
"I think the gods have blessed you in many, many ways, likely
more than you realize and are far more talented than your modesty
would imply," Arawn said with a smile. "As you seem fine with it I
will try to read you now, though if it fails I will have to try
other, deeper magics, or else read your aura when you are engaged
in sexual magick. Though I think the fertility priests and
priestesses may have both greater insight into both this unusual
gift as well as techniques to both enhance and focus it. If you
are ever interested I would be happy to give my support if and
when you wish to learn from them." Arawn looked towards Raban's
steed.
Arawn steps back a foot to get a full view of Raban. He
stretches out his senses and tries to read Raban. From his
person he detects no magic but for some reason as Raban places
his hands on each side of his leather vest he smiles as he
watches arawn. No magic is detects object wise. As finds
the aura of Raban is a bit hard to read as he is for sure
Neutral oriented. Most neutral beings really have a aura that
is just there one minute and gone the next. It is as if the
gods made it so their neutral state doesn't give them away.
But for his human side without his magical training the aura
shows clearly. Raban's shows browns with taints of green
and browns. This mix is slightly like Strie'bog's but less
gray since Strie'bog seems more attuned to the priestly side
rather than bardic side. For Raban his power is obvious his
arms and strength. But for his spiritual side he is weaker
than most here. Slightly better than an apprentice but
not close enough to full wizard level yet. If anything he
is closer to Fremea's magical strength than anyone else in
the group.
"As for you're poor horse, perhaps a blessing for strength or
an enchanted saddle might help things in the future. I'm sure
both the horse and any future companions would appreciate that
greatly."
Raban sighs, "If I had not gotten so tall I would have been the
finest dancer the troupe had ever seen. It would take me 2 or more
years of daily practice to refine my skills to that level now. But
as I discovered then, most see a Freak and do not bother to see if
he can dance! I have surprised many professional entertainers that
way. I am good but I can be far better than that. practice is
needed which requires a lot of room for me, too much most the
time. So I play my Instruments, Act or Sing, whatever is needed
to raise money for others. That is one of the ways I help those in
need. I teach, heal and provide aid in materials or whatever is
needed. My performances fulfill a majority of my duty to my
Goddess, the private ones even more so. As such I have always
traveled where my heart said I should and helped all I could.
Occasionally there are troubles, my work tends to cause jealousy
quite often. That too is part of my work as it leads to teaching
quite often, though sometimes it teaches others pain I did not
intend. I was raised knowing how to handle most of such problems
and how to survive the ones you cannot handle. Overall it is a
wonderful life, but sometimes it gets much more serious. My
Goddess would not have sent me here if there was not a serious
need for my help and something she thought I needed to learn.
Perhaps I was too complacent in my easy work traveling to towns,
earning a few Gold and spending it to help others and as gifts
for the wonderful ladies. So she set me a task dealing with
incredibly complicated women, who do not think they need help
when they do. Saving so many from the Vong is of course a worthy
endeavor, but it is too impersonal for me."
"I never thought I would ride a horse, so I had a lot to learn.
As massive as this one is, he is still too small for me. If we
were back home and I still needed to ride I would have arranged
some magic to help him. A Bless is possible if it becomes
important enough. It would have been allowed so the young lady
could sit in front of me, but I did not think of that, and it
raises risks for detections... It would have been worth it..."
"Ahem." Strie'bog clears his throat for Raban and arawn to
stop their mutual admiration society discussion. "We should
get back to the topic of dealing with the implants."
***********
[Time: 9:07pm]
Almost two hours later Arawn finds himself staring at the
night sky what little there is with overcast above. he
begins to think of home. He begins to meditate and pray for
the party and to his parents. He informs them, though he
knows prayers while directed to one god can be at times
intercepted by other gods, of the present and past party
adventures. He mentions Lymria, dark elves, the elf plate
armor, anwora and seker from the flying island. He makes
mention of the Blue Book. He asks for blessings for the party
and those he meet in the past including Zu's child.
[Time: 9:39pm]
As Arawn sits with palms up in a lotus leg locked position
staring to the vast dark plains he communes with the world
around him. For a half hour he sits in silence as those
around him either bunk for the night or chat about various
non important things. His best hope is that his parents will
respond with the answer to the Vong situation. But he knows
if the gods know, or don't want to admit to nothing of the
Vong situation then they might not be helpful.
Suddenly a tingle begins to creep at the back of his head.
he tries to concentrate on a star in the distance but the
tingle continues. He avoids the temptation of itching it
thinking it a bug. But soon it becomes annoying and even his
deep concentration wavers. As he raises his left arm to
swat the bug he stops when he suddenly sees in his blank mind
a image of a sack. No a bag. Maybe a leather bag. The
image flashes in his head briefly but why would he think of
such a thing unless someone is stealing from him?
With concentration lost he begins to stand and dust himself
as he hears Raban cough near the background from something.
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Friday...
GM: Raban/Arawn: I hope all the talk is above. With you
guys quoting quotes of quotes it was hard to figure
out what was new and what was old. But I think I got
99% of it. I hope.
GM: Arawn/John - How come I am getting bounce list messages
with subject lines like "john haight sends you pictures
of his trip from australia?" Did you try to send me
some pics or put the list on another list? :)
GM: This is a big update so will stop here. I had placed
a semi deadline on the rescue last saturday. But Will had
posted and ICQed last minute interest. Literally 2 min
before I went to bed. So I have continued that thread.
Technically Will is the only one that has shown direct
interest in a rescue with mild interest from Raban,
Arawn and Z'leyra. More what could and what might be
rather than action. If Arawn does his part above then
I will assume there will be no followup from the party?
If there is need to let me know before the next update.
I would prefer that to be before Wednesday night if
possible. But if I have to can do Thursday night. If
there is no intent to followup and rescue him then we'll
move on like I planned last Friday and this update but
got sidetracked by the rescue-maybe-plan. So let
me know if folks attack or go after. If not we'll
move on to the next couple of random encounter which
will just be text really no actions. Then we'll move
on to Crossroads town for the final leg of travel.
GM: Don't forget to read it as Days and Time. I use spaces
(****) and headers [Julis X] so you know which days and
time events take place. This is span of 2 days for this
update.
GM: In theory schedule of events -
Thursday 8/19 update - Next encounters and move to
Crossroads down.
Monday 8/23 - Some stuff in Crossroads.
Friday 8/27 - Final leg of travel and maybe arrive at pamau.
OF course if rescue is done this will all go back 1-3
updates accordingly.
