Game Update #57 in sequence (file #230]
----------------------------------------------------------------

Admin notes: Hope everyone has a good holiday
season! Whatever
you celebrate out there. Merry Christmas
and have a good new
year! The Joke Dwarves are back. One
night while singing a
few crazy songs they forced me to write them
down. So I'll share
them here or they'll threaten to stay with me
over New Years
weekend. Oh on a side issue, the domain
users.cybermax.net is
still down. I'm told the DNS is being
updated and its taken
some time to propagate through the net. If
its not up soon I'll
re-call again. The jokes are spread
throughout the update.
I won't be responsible for any damage to brain
cells.
[Recap]

**Question: What do snowmen
eat for breakfast?
**Answer: Snowflakes.

From Z'leyra: [Re:
Actions]
Z'leyra sheathes
her dagger, picks up her staff then tells
everyone that she
had just been communicated to by a Zendali
spirit. The spirit
said "...NO...NO!...disgrace....remove
remove!...."
Then it later said "-ong remove! Go-".

Z'leyra suggests
that we examine the graves to see if
anything had been
added that would upset the spirits. She
then goes to the
graves and looks.

A few minutes
should not make a difference in tracking, but
may make a big
difference here. After this is done we will
track the
perpetrators.
GM: Ack.

From Ben'dar: [Re:
Actions]
Ben'Dar will go
out with the trackers.
GM: Ack.

**Question: What's red and
white and gives presents to good
little fish on
Christmas?
**Answer: Sandy Claws.

From Strie'bog: [Re:
Actions]
After Z'leyra's
comments about what the spirit said,
Strie'bog adds,
"That was the third grave they defiled,"
pointing to the
one that looks like a chief. "They took
something from it
and then left. I don't think they added
anything, but may
have taken something that was that ones
honor."
Looking to the elders, and speaking in their
language, "Do
you know what he was buried with? Would you
know if something
were missing?"
GM: Ack.

From Others: [Re: Recap of
previous update comments]
Trembyl: "I
agree. I get the impression from my spell
something is wrong here. Elder. Is there anything
unusual about these graves?"
Zaka: "I actually
don't know the history of the graves. The
Eldest
knows it. He is in no condition to travel here.
His
age is getting there. he has been passing on his
wisdom
and stories to us for the last 3 seasons. But
the
graves are one subject we've not covered yet."
Trembyl: "How far
to your village?"
Zaka: "Maybe a half
hour's ride that way."
--------------------------------------------------------

**Question: What do you
get when you cross an archer with a
gift-wrapper?
**Answer: Ribbon
hood.

Octaqi 17, in the 163rd Year [TH]

[Meanwhile back at the 2nd
Grave site - Location a few miles
south-west of Caladan's
village. Roughly 90 minute ride.
Time: Roughly
9:45am]

**Question: Why does Santa
have 3 gardens?
**Answer: So he can
ho-ho-ho.

Thig: "This spirit
sounded like was cut off by something.
Maybe it left or
the spell broke?"

Trembyl: "I best go back
to their camp and talk to this
elder who knows
about the graves. But I don't speak
Zen'dali.
I'll need someone to help me."

[Ben'dar mounts and prepares
his horse ready for tracking.]

[Z'leyra approaches the graves
and examines them while Balrog
is doing the
same.]
GM: A more detailed
description of each grave was in the first
update when
entering the site. But I'll recap.

[All 3 graves lie side by
side. The head of the grave points
to the east where the
bigger trees are. They are separated
by about 3-4 feet
between each grave. The first has a female
body. The middle
has a male which has been identified as
a Chief from the
description of the body. The 3rd on the
right has a male in
it. Each body is in fairly good shape.

The first - the female -
is inspected further. Trembyl
watches from
above. Thig lowers himself and hovers. At
this point Zaka gets
agitated again at this.]

Kasha: "Its
important we learn more about these graves.
We will not
disturb them in any way. We won't take
or anything
or disgrace them. If we are to help
you we must
be allowed to do this."
[Zaka looks at everyone
then finally nods silently.]
Kasha: "Thank
you."
[The dirt mounds where
the dirt was thrown out is in
various places
around the graves some as high as 3
feet. Thig's
eyes adjust quickly to the darkened
grave. He
looks over the smelly grave. His nose
wrinkle but he has
dealt with worse. The female looks
to be in her early
20s from her height. A cloth that
has severely
decayed covers the full length of her body.
Only her head,
arms and hands are uncovered. But nothing
seems to be
missing or out of the ordinary. She is
a plain female
with no jewelry of any kind. From the
rate of decay
theres no skin but just bones left with hair.
Thig after a few
minutes rises.]
Thig: "Did she have
any jewelry or items like that?"
Zaka: "Don't
know. Like I said the elder who knows the
history of
these graves is back at the village."

[Thig nods and goes to
the middle grave. He hovers and
lowers
again. This time a tall male is clearly seen
by the size of
him. A decayed set of feathers and
necklace of some
bone or other mineral is lying around
the neck of the
man's bones. He also has been here for
some time as he
has only bones left. Thig notices a
scar on the bone
of his left arm. Thig knows it to
be there for some
time and the cut must've hurt to go
clear to the
bone. Likely how he died. The male is
buried with a
spear in good shape, a sling to his right
and a set of bags
to his left that have decayed and broken.
Thig goes to grab
them but Zaka stops him.]

Zaka: "Those are
bags of honor. Usually special items the
chief or
warrior gains through rituals. Nothing of
value but to
the person. Some might be feathers or bones
or pieces of
anatomy of a animal killed in battle. If
you touch
the bags it might break apart. Those who opened
the grave
knew this. They did not touch them."

Balrog: "How can
you tell?"
Zaka: "They are
still in good shape. The ties are still tied
and nothing
is in the open."
[Thig nods and continues
to look. The male's cloth which
covers him is
halfway thrown off the body. But nothing
seems to be
missing that can be determined this way without
knowing what
should be here in the first place.]

Trembyl: [Through
translation] "Is this a chief or a shaman?"
Zaka: "From the
looks of it a war chief. A Sha of high standing
it
seems. He has three bags. Most warriors in our tribe
only have
enough trinkets for one bag. I don't see any
signs of a
shaman. Usually they are buried with signs of
their
animal. The feathers are from the headdress. The
necklace
could be but likely a personal necklace not
anything
from an animal. Thig then notices a jeweled
ring on the
right hand. The jewel is green but looks cheap
compared to
noble rings in most civilized areas.]
Thig: "Do Zen'da
wear rings like this?"

Laku: "Like
what? Where?" [He peers down and tries to
see it and
takes him a few minutes] "That? Its not
too common
but some do."
Balrog: "So its not
for money then or they'd have taken
that at
least."
Thig: "I don't see
much else. Can I cover him back up?"
Zaka:
"Please."

[thig rises and heads to
the 3rd grave. The grave
Strie'bog talked
about something was taken out. In this
grave the person
is a foot shorter than the chief. Only
about 5 foot and
few inches (hard to tell based on lying
down). It
looks like a male. The skin is actually still
in place and
appears in good shape. Which could mean the
person has not
been here long. From what is seen of the
arms, shoulders
and head about 60% of the area still has
complete areas of
skin. A cloth was here as well and
is in bad shape as
the others having decayed. The cloth
is draped down to
the knees of the person.

The arms are well
muscled it seems. The skin is a reddish
tint as if from
fire or sunburn. Z'leyra tries to observe
from top but its
too dark to see.

The chest seems to
be wearing some kind of hard armor. Thig
knocks on the
armor and finds it tough. it looks like a
chest plate of
ribs spread out around the torso. The
arms seem to have
what looks like to be tattoos. Z'leyra
casts a spell to
see better into the darkness. She then
sees the tattoos
that Thig describes. They are incomplete
from the decay of
skin but seem to by symbols of some kind
she has never seen
before.

When Thig examines
the head which is in good shape it has
its muscles still
in good shape for some reason. The eyes
are gone
though. Then Thig gives a slight gasp.]
Thig: "What the
heck is that?"
[He points to a object
on the shoulder blades. It seems to
be some kind of
hard rock that is inserted into the shoulder
near the
neck. Thig lowers as close as he can. He touches
the object
carefully and finds it coarse and rough. Its
of a stained
(aged) yellow color. About the size of a
infant's
fist.]
Kasha: "What is
it?"
Thig: "Some
rock. Maybe a home for an animal? It looks
like it has
tiny tiny holes in it. Like...as if..
coral...sea
coral..."
Zaka: "What is this
coral?"
Kasha: "it is this
rock found in water where tiny tiny
creatures
seem to live. It builds onto itself and
makes large
beds of rock."
[Zaka nods but seems
uncertain.]

[Thig then looks more at
the head. Another tiny piece
of the rock like
substance seems to be to the right
of the head behind
the ear. In fact the ears, Thig
describes, is more
round like but not human or elf or
even faerry.
The other rock behind the ear is smaller
the size of a dime
in the skull itself. Thig looks
back over the body
and finds no jewelry or other items.]
Balrog: "Look at
his right hand. A finger seems missing."
[Thig counts and sees
only 4 fingers. The 2nd finger
seems to be torn
off or broken off. Thig looks around
near the body but
only sees bone splitters. Then a
minute later finds
a small finger to the bottom of
the grave.]
Trembyl: "Was that
recent?"
Thig: "Don't
know. But it could've been ripped off
when he was
buried."
[The right hand is down
to the side of the person while
the left hand is
on the chest. On the right side of
the body is the
long black staff described previously.

The staff appears
to be 5 feet tall. As thin as a
inch or so
round. Thig touches it and finds its rough
like
leather. At the top is a large head piece that
looks like a snake
head but is hard. No real point
like a
spear.]
Thig: "Is this a
Zen'da weapon?"
[Zaka has walked away
sickened by the mess. Laku is
overhead and looks
down slightly pale from the smell.
He looks at the
staff and then backs away.]
Laku: "No.
I've never seen such a item."

Thig: "So
then...what was taken from this grave? Anyone
care to
guess?"
Kasha: "A
weapon?"
Balrog:
"Rings? Bags?"
Thig: "I don't
know." [He rises above the grave and lands.]
Trembyl: "Then we
will have to talk to the elder who knows
about these
graves. Maybe he can help us."
Zaka: "Some men
will be here soon from our village to
re bury the
graves before night fall."

Trembyl: "Who will
go with me and who will track?"
Kasha: "Should we
stay together? If this village is
only a half
hour away we could go and question the
elder then
catch up to the tracks?"
Thig: "Remember
they have already three to four ..maybe
five hours
ahead of us already. So another hour might
not mean
much but it could."

[Ben'dar is eager to
track. Bored by all the talk he
is shifting back
and forth.]

GM: So what's the
plan? Who tracks. Who goes with
Trembyl. Trembyl will need a Zen'dali translator.
If no one
offers Kasha will but he isn't an expert
in the
language. If you all want to visit the village
that's fine
then track as a single group. Otherwise
it'll be a
split group. The other group will have
to then
return to Caladan's village or track the
trackers.
Option 1: Track
now
Option 2: go to
new village, track after
Option 3: Track
now, split up others go to village
Option 4:
Other?
1 [Meanwhile in the small valley in
the mountains.]
Woundenal's Cabin Time:
c. 9:25am]

[Chit-chat continues for
another 25 minutes or so.
The food and drink is
good and some get seconds.
Jordi still is a bit
quiet in his thoughts.]

Farseeker: "How did you
get this valley and the magic
that seems to
protect you?"
Woundenal: "Well...that's
a long story. But there
was a rumor the
High Elder himself. That wizard
who I hear now
lives in the Dark Lands lived here.
He left the magics
in place. I got the place from
another wizard who
came across it but was later
killed by the
L'p'nth. i sorta obtained it after that.
Took me a few
months to learn the magics myself.
The magics aren't
that complex. I found out later
through intense
study that they were more natural
than
man-made. I later found stories of this valley
that it was once a
home to a god. Course that was
eons ago.
Its said the god placed the magics. But
theres no evidence
to this. But then again I hear
stories of the
same thing from the faerry homeland
but I've seen no
evidence to suggest that as well."
Xian: "Interesting.
What other rumors have you heard?"
Woundenal: "There is one
silly one the L'p'nth are
telling the last
few years. Supposedly of a being
that can raise the
dead. Likely a wizard with resurrection
powers. But
we know that spell doesn't produce the best
effect theres
always some drawback in the body. Loss of
strength or such
for example. But this being is said
to do it fully
without drawbacks. I strongly believe it
to be just a story
to impress bordering people of the
L'p'nth
ways."
Caladan: [He stands and
stretches] "Well I do enjoy the visit
but our friends
may need us." [He looks to the others]
"What should
we do? Visit this castle Woundenal speaks
of or return to my
village?"
GM: Any more comments?
Questions?

Option 1: Village
Option 2: Castle
Option 3: Other

Caladan: "This Castle
might be a tie in somehow. If its
being reoccupied
the Zen'da may need to know."
Farseeker: "Sounds good
to me with the castle."
Xian: "I'll do
either."

**Question: What do you call
people who are afraid of Santa
Claus?
**Answer:
Claustrophobic.

-----------------------------------------------------------

**Question: Why did the little girl change her
mind about buying
her grandmother a packet
of handkerchiefs for Christmas?
**Answer: She said "I could not work out
what size her nose was!
