Game Update #63 in sequence (file #247]<br>

Admin notes: I suspect this will be a 2 parter
update. It sorta<br>
grew in actions. With the 3 groups might
do it in chunks for<br>
reading. No update last monday due to time
and the growth of<br>
this update. So I'll do this one for
Friday. <br>

"Yes Thig,
something is amiss." Strie'bog will bend down<br>
and stroke
Bodyzar.<br>
<br>
As it becomes
obvious what is happening, Strie'bog will<br>
begin to speak,
hoping to influence the man.<br>
<br>
"Zaka has
said that you will not be harmed, and from your<br>
actions,
your life is important to you." Pause, "you say<br>
you know the
Zen'da, so you will know that they will not<br>
let you
leave here alive if you continue to threaten this<br>
girl.
No one will win with this situation, and from what<br>
I have seen
of the Zen'da they will let this young girl<br>
die to save
her honor." Wheather this is true or not is<br>
irrelevant,
he just wants the guy to think. "Think of not<br>
only your
life, but hers. Release her and come out. The<br>
elder has
spoken that no harm will come to you if your<br>
surrender. A very gracious offer."<br>
<br>
Even if it fails
to influence the men in the tipi, it will<br>
at least give the
others time to prepare spells or actions.<br>
<br>
If it turns to
battle, Strie'bog will let Bodyzar go on the<br>
attack, and
Strie'bog will try to make a grab for the knife<br>
(unarmed
combat). Still, Strie'bog will try negotiations<br>
first.<br>

Z'leyra asks
Ben'Dar "Do you wish to have a belt or your<br>
armor ensorcelled
to make it harder for chaos mages to<br>
affect you with
their spells?"<br>

"I'd best
enchant a belt or your armor for protection<br>
against
chaos now. We won't have time when we have them<br>
in sight.
This should only take a couple minutes."<br>
<br>
"...."
Z'leyra says to the eagle. "....."<br>
<br>
To Ben'Dar "A
party went towards the village." She grins.<br>
"Maybe they
will give our comrades some excitement." She<br>
continues
"Let us track the others eastward. First let me<br>
leave a message
for our friends." She scratches "Going east<br>
Z & B" on
a rock next to the tracks leading east out of the<br>
camp.<br>
<br>
After going a
couple hundred yards east she pulls up and<br>
mentions to
Ben'Dar "I'd best enchant your Storm Dragon armor<br>
or a belt for
protection against chaos now. We won't have<br>
time when we have
them in sight. This should only take a<br>
couple
minutes."<br>
<br>
The dismounts,
finds a nice spot to sit and readies her gear.<br>
Then she starts
chanting and casting spells on the item.<br>
<spell info>
Done, she gets up and gives the item to Ben'Dar<br>
"Here
Ben'Dar, this is very tough and it will make it harder<br>
for chaos mages to
affect the wearer with their spells.<br>
Eventually I can
ensorcel it further to give the wearer<br>
total immunity to
lesser chaos spells - but to do that would<br>
drain me too much
at the moment."<br>
<br>
She packs her
gear, mounts up and says "Lets go." They<br>
continue
tracking.<br>

Actions]<br>
Ben'Dar laughs at
the prospect of the riders getting<br>
clobbered by the
rest of the party waiting for them in the<br>
village. He
nods and says, "Eastward it is. We will keep<br>
these thieves on
the run!"<br>

Ben'Dar consents
to the enchantment of his wide leather belt.<br>
"Thank
you," he murmurs when she is finished.<br>
<br>
As they ride,
Ben'Dar asks Z'leyra, "Tell me more about this '<br>
chaos
magic'. I know very little about the different types<br>
of magic in the
world, outside of the rituals performed by<br>
the shamans of the
People. Even that I know very little<br>
about." He
scratches his head absently and adds, "I guess I<br>
never had much
time for that sort of thing in the past."<br>

is normal she made a belt. In order to<br>
enchant it it had
to be made by herself. I'll email you<br>
the stats and add

equal to chainmail. Scott knows how much it<br>
adds to the
wearer's MDV vs. Chaos spells.<br>

made herself and
carried along with her. She can only enchant<br>
those items that
she has manufactured, not those someone else<br>
made. She brought
half a dozen belts she'd made and has<br>
already partially

Ben'Dar smiles and
shouts back over the thunder of the hooves<br>
of their horses,
"Let us keep the gauntlets to give to your<br>
Searbhani giant
friend. It sounds like fun! You have had<br>
many adventures
before we met. What led you to leave your<br>
home and become a
wanderer?"<br>

[Z'leyr's actual
text]<br>
As they ride along
following the tracks Z'leyra mentions<br>
"Ben'Dar,
those gauntlets the giant had...If you can find a<br>
buyer, fine. If
not, there is a Searbhani giant they might<br>
fit that I am
acquainted with." She grins. "Actually I had<br>
a night combat
with Grok when he grabbed FisherKing while we<br>
were sleeping. I
had to patch the wound I gave Grok with my<br>
axe after I
recognized him as a Searbhani and convinced him<br>
to let FisherKing
go."<br>

"Of course it
might be difficult to find him again, not to<br>
mention out
of the way. My encounter with him was about a<br>
day's travel
to the west of Thaliba City."<br>

interaction. But I never got the post from<br>
Z'leyra so this is

From Ben'dar to Z'leyra: [Re:
More replies]<br>
Ben'Dar's brow
wrinkles with confusion at the involved<br>
discussion of
various powers and forces vying for control.<br>
Distaste clouds
his face at the description of the chaos<br>
alignment.
It brightens, however, when Z'leyra speaks of<br>
Elder forces and
the spirits of nature. "You and I share<br>
that allegiance,
my friend. I also serve the forces of<br>
nature and
balance, as do many of the People." Ben'Dar<br>
replies.
"Thank you for the magic protection against the<br>
chaos. Though I do
not understand it, I trust you."<br>
<br>
Ben'Dar goes back
to tracking, scanning the area for tracks<br>
and making a
special point to check for an ambush. The<br>
absence of animal
signs in the area makes him suddenly<br>
uneasy and
suspicious that the hunted may have ideas about<br>
becoming the
hunters...<br>
<br>
[Z'leyra's text
below]<br>
After pondering a
bit Z'leyra explains "Chaos magic, like<br>
most or maybe all
magic, comes from or through a power.<br>
Chaos is a power
with little or no emapthy or respect for<br>
others. Those who
use it are known for seeking power, with<br>
little regard for
the consequences of its use. A quick rule<br>
of thumb - those
who seek chaos power rarely are going to<br>
use it to better
the lives of others."<br>
<br>
"Chaos
gods are known for their violence and evil doings.<br>
They
prefer to inspire fear than love. But they are part<br>
of the
world and help keep it from being too boring. They<br>
act as
a counter to Law, which if unrestricted might make<br>
everything regimented, allowing no choices but those<br>
allowed by those in charge or the philosophy they profess<br>
to
follow."<br>
<br>
"I
respect both, they have their place. But I prefer to aid<br>
Balance, which seeks to keep all in balance. I also serve<br>
the
Elder forces I am allied with. The spirits of nature<br>
and of
the Sidh are individuals of their own thought, but<br>
with a
respect for tradition, for nature and for each other."<br>

[Meanwhile somewhere in the
open plains - Location 7 miles<br>
south-east of Caladan's
village. Roughly 2.5 hour ride.<br>
Time: Roughly
11:50am]<br>

[Before leaving from the
four way track section she finds<br>
a large rock and
carves a message onto it as outlined above.<br>
Ben'dar realizes
this is needed but he shifts in his saddle<br>
eager for the ride
and battle.]<br>
<br>
[Z'leyra makes squaking
noises to the Eagle who replies in<br>
kind. This
confuses Ben'dar and makes him slightly nervous.<br>
The quick
conversation ends and both move on the trail.]<br>
<br>
[Eventually Z'leyra asks
Ben'dar about an enchantment.<br>
Ben'dar agrees
after Z'leyra explains the concept of the<br>
magics involved
and the alignments. Z'leyra folllows<br>
the tracks some
more and both enter a small prairie with<br>
kneed high
grass. Its a stark contrast from the other<br>
areas which the
grass has shrunk down to ankle height for<br>
the winter.
It looks like this area is still going strong<br>
at least until the
first hard cold hits the area.<br>
<br>
Z'leyra loses the
tracks as they enter the tall grass.<br>
Looking around the
prairie goes for maybe a half mile<br>
to the north, east
and south. Z'leyra decides before<br>
entering its best
to cast her enchantment here. Both<br>
dismounts off the
horse just at the edge of the tall<br>
grass as the cold
wind blows through the grass. The horses<br>
walk over and
begin to eat from the grass. Both look into<br>
the prairie but
don't see anyone. Z'leyra gathers her<br>
satchel and places
materials on the dirt ground outside the<br>
grassland.
She gathers her drum and begins to sit. She<br>
pulls out the
artistically created belt and shows it to<br>
Ben'dar. The
belt is leather and can be modified to fit<br>
anyone with a
simple knife. He notices it has some minor<br>
wood art on it
with things he doesn't quite understand.<br>
She places the
belt in front of her and begins to enter into<br>
her trance.
Meanwhile the Eagle lands nearby and cleans<br>
its wings while
watching Z'leyra. The eagle seems as curious<br>
as
Ben'dar. Ben'dar occasionally scans the area but
watches<br>
Z'leyra in
fascination for most of the remaining time.<br>
<br>
After her trance
she taps her drum with her right hand and<br>
places the left on
the belt. Nothing is seen by Ben'dar<br>
as she speaks the
words. No prett lights or noises. But<br>
he does feel
energy like static electricity? She then<br>
states more
words.<br>
<br>
Just then a rustle
is heard in the grass. Ben'dar looks<br>
up and to the east
to see a flash of something leaping<br>
from the
grass. Z'leyra leaves the trance just as the<br>
leap occurs so
doesn't notice it. The Eagle squaks not<br>
even heard or saw
it as well and takes quick flight as<br>
a wolf leaps for
the eagle. One wolf leaps right for<br>
the standing
Ben'dar but ben'dar ducks just in time and<br>
the wolf goes over
his shoulders lower down his back and<br>
onto the
ground. Z'leyra startled but still on the<br>
ground sees the
wolf land a few feet from her and looks<br>
for her
staff. Then both hear anothrr rustle and see<br>
a 3rd wolf
charging forward from the grass.]<br>
<br>
GM: 3 Wolves. Need
a map? The horses didn't even hear<br>
the wolves
apparently as they were silent stalking.<br>
Z'leyra's
trotted away but Ben'dar's horse remains<br>
a few feet
away. Actions?<br>
Time: Roughly
12:22pm]<br>

[Meanwhile somewhere in the
mountains to the east of<br>
Woundenal's Cabin Time:
c. 10:10am]<br>
<br>
Caladan: "We've got to do
something. Take me down Xian.<br>
There." [He
points to the ground far below.]<br>
[Xian begins to cast a
teleport spell by saying the owrds.]<br>
Farseeker: "Me
too!"<br>
[Xian widen's both arms so
they can touch him. He nods<br>
and then teleports far
below to the ground right in<br>
front of the
horses.]<br>
<br>
[Chion and Jordi still up on
the mountain look down.<br>
The three down below
know talking is not going to work<br>
as the riders could ride
away and warn others. They<br>
must stop them before
they do so. They are likely<br>
L'p'nth riders enemies
of the Zen'da and Marentia alike<br>
so attacking them is of
less a moral question. Farseeker<br>
and Caladan separate
from Xian. Farseeker with great<br>
sword in left hand grips
it with his right and steps<br>
left and forward.
Caladan does the same but on the<br>
right side of Xian with
his war staff. Xian grabs his<br>
warstaff and readies
it. The riders are shocked to see<br>
the 3 and are
ambushed.]<br>
<br>
[Farseeker steps and swings
his body building up speed<br>
and force. He then
thrusts his long blade straight up<br>
and into the side of the
rider. It enters just above<br>
the rider's right hip
and into the body impaling the<br>
rider doing 11 points of
damage. The rider falls to<br>
the ground.]<br>
<br>
[Caladan swings around and
eyes the rider. He grips<br>
the tall 5 foot staff
and rams it up skyward toward<br>
the rider's face.
It impacts right on the rider's nose<br>
and slams the rider
backwards. The blow itself does<br>
damage forcing the nose
backward. The rider falls back<br>
and off the
horse.]<br>
<br>
[Xian is blocked by both
horses to get to the 3rd rider<br>
behind them. He
can't attack quick enough so he decides<br>
to pull a throwing
dagger out of his robe and throw<br>
it at the rider.
The dagger flies and hits the rider<br>
in the shoulder but no
blood is seen to squirt out.]<br>
<br>
[The rider backs the horse up
and looks like is trying to<br>
avoid going
forward.]<br>
GM: Actions? Chion/Jordi
want to join in? The rider will<br>
be heading off on
horse likely next phase. <br>
<br>

[Meanwhile at Zaka's village -
Location 6 miles south-east<br>
of Caladan's village.
Roughly 2.5 hour ride.<br>
Time: Roughly
10:55am]<br>
<br>
GM: I goofed. There was
a tipi on fire. I forgot. That's<br>
what made the
party aware of an attack. Tsk Tsk. Shame<br>
on me. Well
four phases of burning would do severe damage.<br>
So during the
combat half the Tipi would have been on fire.<br>
Its not the Tipi
with the hostage situation. Its one<br>
of the ones on the
west side. When the combat is over<br>
the villages
realize this and try to put out the fire.<br>
<br>
[Balrog, Kasha and Trembyl
help to put the fire out while<br>
Strie'bog talks to the
hostage taker. Trembyl casts a<br>
elemental spell to raise
the water in the low well. It<br>
rises 8 feet very fast
and stays that way. This lets the<br>
villagers gather buckets
of water to try to put the fire<br>
out on the Tipi.
Kasha helps those in the tipi escape<br>
and it becomes
empty.]<br>
<br>
[Meanwhile Thig motions with
his mouth to keep Strie'bog<br>
talking. He then
flies up over the tipi and behind it.<br>
He hovers in the air so
he can be seen by Strie'bog and<br>
motions hes going to try
something. Strie'bog continues<br>
to talk to the hostage
taker.]<br>
<br>
[The man inside replies]<br>
Man: "I'm good as dead if
I step out!"<br>
<br>
[Thig goes
insubstantial. Then invisible. He flies<br>
through the tipi cloth
and enters the interior of the<br>
Tipi.]<br>
<br>
Man: "I'll do what I came
here for!"<br>
<br>
[A male scream is heard from
inside. Zaka rushes toward<br>
the tipi with
Strie'bog. A struggle is heard inside.<br>
Then the female storms
out crying and runs away. The<br>
wolf peers into the
tipi. Then thig flies out seemingly<br>
unhurt. But still
non-solid and non-seen. He flies<br>
through Strie'bog.
Zaka pushes Strie'bog aside and enters<br>
the tipi. But Thig
speaks]<br>
Thig: "Stop! Its
over!"<br>
<br>
[Zaka stops a split
second. Thig becomes solid and lands<br>
on the ground.
Then visible a few seconds later.]<br>
Thig: "Come!"<br>
<br>
[The man inside the tipi
crawls toward the Tipi and almost<br>
pushes Zaka aside.
Zaka surprised almost attacks the<br>
man but then sees the
man's eyes...the man crawls out.]<br>
Thig: "Stand!"<br>
<br>
[The man stands with a clear
dumbface look on his face.<br>
Zaka continues in the
Tipi and checks on the Elder.]<br>
<br>
[Strie'bog looks to
Thig.]<br>
Thig: "His mind is
destroyed. Very low intelligence<br>
I suppose. I
knew I couldn't wrestle his arm so I<br>
had to use
magic. I didn't have the strength to<br>
attack him.
His mind is gone and under my control.<br>
He---"<br>
<br>
Zaka: "I need help in
here! He's dying!"<br>
<br>
[Strie'bog enters the Tipi and
sees a old man laying<br>
down on a blanket.
A stab wound on his arm and<br>
chest is seen. The
distraught female rushes back<br>
and enters the
Tipi.]<br>
Female: "He was stabbed
by the man before he spoke<br>
to you. Can
you help him?"<br>
<br>
