Admin notes: Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[Recap]

From Z'leyra:
[Actions/Comments]
Z'leyra will
comment when Ben'dar looks about to skin one
of the wolves.
"Maybe you didn't notice, but Cetric's animal
totem is a wolf. I
don't know if he will berserk at seeing a
freshly skinned
wolf hide - but he certainly won't be happy."

"I'd thought
of taking a wolf hide and wolf eye for the
magics
possible, but I decided that, for myself I would
rather stay
friendly with the Zen'da. But it is your choice."
GM: A Wolf eye would be easy
to hide. But would have to
be preserved
quickly or enhanced quickly to preserve it.
Ben'dar asked the
name of the Eagle in case you missed that.

From Ben'dar:
[Actions/Comments]
(OOC: Yeah,
going back to the previous day when he was
waiting for
Z'leyra and the eagle, that's when he would
probably do it. He
had plenty of time to kill then.

As for making
Cetric upset, Ben'Dar considers that a plus.
;-) Seriously
though, if Cetric makes a big stink about it,
Ben'Dar will push
back, demanding why the shaman's creatures
came after them on
the plains and wondering aloud if Cetric
didn't send the
wolves to attack him and Z'leyra.

No rush on getting
the headdress done though. He will work
on it a little
here and a little there, since he wants this
to be an intricate
work that will inspire terror in his
enemies and awe in
his rivals.)

Ben'Dar laughs
aloud and gives a wolfish grin to Z'leyra.
"I'll take my
chances with that one. Perhaps he can answer
as to why
his totem animal attacked friends of his tribe in
his tribe's
land!" Ben'Dar grunts and shakes his head,
adding,
"Some shaman, that one!"

His face more
serious now, he says, "You are honorable and
the Zen'da know
this. Do not worry about what Cetric thinks
of you."
Ben'Dar looks sharply at Z'leyra and adds
meaningfully,
"He does not speak for all Zen'Dans."
GM: Ack. Can you remind me
again which parts you take?
The head above the
mouth? So nose, eyes, ears and the
back skin going
down about a foot? The Jaw area itself
of a wolf doesn't
have much skin to it. Above the nose
though is good
amount of skin.
[New Stuff]

Octaqi 17, in the 163rd Year [TH]

[Meanwhile somewhere in the
open plains - Location 7 miles
south-east of Caladan's
village. Roughly 2.5 hour ride.
Time: Roughly
12:22pm]

[After the Hawk combat
Z'leyra seems quiet and isolated.
Ben'dar paces back
and forth eager for action. He decides
Z'leyra knows what
she is doing and decides to go for
a ride.
Z'leyra asks him not to go in a certain area.
Before Ben'dar
realizes he finds himself near the Wolf
bodies past the
prairie grass. He grins and dismounts
near them.
Being only hours old only a carrion bird and
some ants and
other insects have found the bodies. They
are still in good
shape. All 3 though have insects on
them.
Ben'dar looks around first and grabs his fighting
dagger, not having
any other good sharp knife with him.

Without Z'leyra
here to direct him he begins to skin the
animal of the best
one he finds. Smell hasn't set in yet
aside from the
copper smell of the fresh blood in the
air. Z'leyra
starts at the head and then works down. The
jaw alone takes
over 2 hours of delicate work since he
doesn't want to
cut ligaments and damage the skin. The
neck and back skin
doesn't take as long but another 45
minutes
later. Occasionally a bug will bother Ben'dar
and bite but no
adverse effects. The first task is to
lay the skin out
and clean the attached tissue from it.
Z'leyra taught him
this back on the ranch. This takes
another hour to
scrap and clean. Some of the tissue has
to be pulled out
by fingers to get it cleaned. By the time
Ben'dar finishes
he has smelly and bloody hands. If it
was summer he'd
have many flies bothering him. The
problem is theres
nothing to preserve the skin. It will
have to be treated
soon or it will surely wither and decay
in a day or
two. The eyes alone will be the first to go.
The fur is soft
gray and white. He rolls up the skin as
best he can and
places it on the horse. He turns to the
wolves and wonders
how wolf meat will taste. He knew his
family had hunted
some in the past for food but doesn't
recall if he ever
had any.]

[By now its near 4pm or
so. He rides back to where Z'leyra
has taken
camp. He notices the eagle is still not there.
He shows Z'leyra
the skin and asks questions about it.
This is when
Z'leyra comments about Cetric with Ben'dar
replying
back.]

[A fire is started as
the cold comes back. The Sun soon
settles and the
two sleep for the night. In the morning
Z'leyra leaves
(for her Time Travel) and returns an hour
later as Ben'dar
breaks camp. This time the Eagle is
with her.
Both ride back to the village.]

[As they past the wolves
Z'leyra looks at the skinned
wolf. She is
an educated person and that with her
healing
personality feels slight revulsion at the sight.
But then she also
had the same thought the day before.
By now more bugs
have gotten there as well as night
predators.
Wolves don't tend to eat their own. A strange
fact on the plains
or just something they stay away from.
But other animals
like prairie dogs may nibble at the bodies.
It will take a
good week though before the bodies are likely
beyond
recognition. Z'leyra looks at the wolf bodies. She
knows one is not
Cetric. If it was he'd have changed back
to human form on
death. She looks back eastward and nods
thinking of the
hawk. A simple hawk and not a man...]

[Z'leyra still hasn't
explained that the other rider may have
gotten away
through other means. But both riders head
westward.]

[By around 9:30am that
morning the sight of the graves are
seen. From
there they recall the direction Zaka mentioned
the tribe
was. They head in that direction. Another short
while and they
arrive in the village greeted by some of
the party
members.]

GM: Now that your back
what do you tell and what do you not
tell of the
combat and previous day?
Octaqi 17, in the 163rd Year
[TH]
[Meanwhile at Zaka's village -
Location 6 miles south-east
of Caladan's village.
Roughly 2.5 hour ride.
Time: Roughly
3:00pm]

[After the Elder dies
and the quick funeral the party gathers
to discuss
things...]

Trembyl: "So this
claw...bear claw things...if it controls
nature does
that mean like wind and air or animals?"
Thig: "I've heard
the Sidh create such things in the past.
They were
used to control birds and snakes."
Kasha: "So what do
you think this claw thing does?"
Thig:
"Unsure. Could be either of those powers. I
suspect
though since
the Zen'da worship animal spirits maybe it
controls
animals?"

Balrog: "Maybe it
controls animal spirits itself?"
Trembyl: "to what
purpose?"
Balrog: "Don't ask
me!"
Thig: "Maybe for
information?"

Balrog: "What about
that strange person in the grave?"

Trembyl: "The Elder
spoke of them being from some far off
land.
They sounded like invaders to the plains. From
his
reference did anyone figure out how long ago it was?"

Thig: "Based on his
words generation and such...likely
three
hundred to four hundred years ago they arrived."

Kasha: "Too bad
Kaylle isn't here we could get more info."

Trembyl: "Strie'bog
do you know of any stories of such
beings?"
GM: In fact Strie'bog
has never heard of such stories.

Kasha: "Zaka will
he remain in the grave?"
Zaka: "The strange
one? Yes. If our shamans agreed to do
such in the
past we must honor that request."

Kasha: "Still
doesn't make sense why they attacked here."

Thig: "Easy.
They must've known the Elder knew of the claw
and the
body. Tie up loose ends. From the looks of it
the true
target was the elder."

Zaka: "We could've
prevented this?"

Trembyl: "Likely
not. We could never have known."

Kasha: "if they had
this large of a group then it would
indicate
that was their total number and no other
graves will
be taken."
Balrog: "Based on
what?"
Kasha: "Well they
could've risked just a lone killer
entering
camp. To send them all would be to terrorize.
to risk all
of them dying would indicate they found
what they
are after. That would also indicate at least
one went
away with the claw since we didn't find it here."
Balrog: "Maybe
Z'leyra and Ben'dar will find them."

[Cetric decides to stay
and discuss matters with Zaka.
Zaka informs
Cetric his warriors will return tomorrow night
from their
hunts. They should be safe then. Zaka welcomes
the party to stay
the night or return to Caladan's village.]

[Either way.
Dinner is prepared in either village near
camp fire.
There is no jovial celebration or warrior
teasing as they
mourn the attack on the village. The
dinner is rather
somber.

Octaqi 18, in the 163rd Year
[TH]
Time: Roughly
8:00am]

[Cetric has returned to his
village. Zaka's village
wakes up with the
party. Discussions are made as to what
to do next. Hours
have passed and no word from Caladan or
Z'leyra's group.
With half their party missing the next
move is
unclear. Some wish to return to Caladan's village
and wait for news.
Others think they should wait there.]

[The discussion goes no where
though. An hour and a half
later finally Z'leyra
and Ben'dar returns to Zaka's
village. There
they are greeted by the party.]

GM: Ok. Group 1 and 3
are back together. Z'leyra and Ben'dar
what do you wish
to explain. Actions here at the village
are
explained. The attack, the info on the claw and
the strange
being. Cetric's arrival. The death of the
Elder. Full
details. So now you know what the others knew.

--------------------------------------------------------

[Meanwhile somewhere in the
mountains to the east of
Woundenal's Cabin, At
the Castle Time: c. 11:35am]

[In the Castle -]

GM: Chion has met
with me in ICQ to do quick live gaming
on the
castle exploration. In just 2 hours we got
about
25% of the castle explored. The following is the
result
of that exploration and events.

[After leaving the
cell room invisible and insubstantial
Chion waits
for the spell to wear off so he can walk
on solid
ground. He heads west to the next door. Opening
he finds a
winding stone staircase that goes up to the
next
floor. He backs away and into the hallway again.
He heads
west down the hallway which is light by torches
along the
stone walls. He finds two doors north and
south.
He turns south and finds a large chamber room.]

[He finds it empty
and quickly learns it to be a throne
room.
A large throne room of simple ornate stone and
wood is in
the back wall facing the door. There are
some
lanterns lighting the room but many hanging candles
adorn the
room unlit. Along the side walls are some nice
looking
tapestries of scenes of battle at night and during
the
day. There are four ornate stone carving columns
in the
room. The columns look to have stone ivy plant
growing on
it in fancy fashion with big birds on the
brnnches. Maybe crows or black birds? Chion checks the
throne and
sees its for a simple ruler. Not too fancy
other than
the satin cloth and seat. The arms are made
from ornate
marble stone it seems of black and green
color.
Would've been heavy to get in here. There
are chairs
dotted around the room walls for courtiers to
sit and
listen to the ruler. The carpet is deep here
and of good
value. Chion sees two doors to the East and
West.
Before he goes to the other doors he searches the
walls for
secret exits. But seems to find none. Course
he doesn't
have the Find Traps and Secret Door skill so
its a rough
search.]

[After five
minutes searching the Throne Room he checks the
door to the
west. The room is lit with simple wall lanterns.
It has a
small couch of fine manufacture (silk). There
are some
satin chairs and a small cup table. A wet bar
in one
corner holds drinks and water. From the layout of
the room
Chion figures it to be a private lounge area.
Likely where
the ruler meets with private folks to discuss
secret
matters or where nobles meet with other nobles for
private
discussions in politics or something like that.
This layout
is actually typical of most castles. Even
King Maros's
Castle has the same private rooms off the
throne room
for such talk. Chion exits the room and
re-enters
the Throne Room.]

[He tries the
other door and finds the room dark. But
from a torch
nearby in the Throne room he can tell its
the same
layout as the other room. Another private
lounge area
with furniture laid out in the opposite
side and
direction. With it dark Chion figures the
room to not
be used much?]

[So far about 15
minutes has passed since Chion escaped.
He heads
back to the hallway. He checks the hall and
then crosses
to the North door. The door is rather
huge like
the Throne room of hardened wood with nice
iron door
knobs. He opens the door quietly and sees
a rather
large open room. Its about 170 by 210 feet.
There are
about 8 chairs along the wall and many many
hanging
candle chandeliers. At least 1/3rd of the
chandeliers
are lit. The carpet is rich and thick here
as
well. Based on the wear of the carpet in some areas
and a corner
where chairs and a broken harp sits this
must be a
ballroom of some sort. Likely where balls
and
ceremonies are held by the court. He sees doors
to the
North, East and West. He heads to the East doors.]

[Opening the door
he finds another large room 80x210 feet.
He finds it
is a banquet hall likely for guests after
they eat to
easily access dinner. A large oak table
is seen that
is 18 by 90 feet. Chairs along the sides
seem to fit
70-75 people! There are shelves along the
south wall
where servants can place food and drink.
The
chandeliers are half lit in this room. The room
is also
empty of anyone. There is a door to the East
but chion
re-enters the ballroom.]

GM: Goofed on map
of this room made doors where there
are
none. Fixed now for this update if you saw the
last
map last night. :)

[Entering the West
doors he finds another room the same
size as the
Banquet Room. This room is a larger
version of
the Throne private rooms. It has 5 couches.
Nice satin
chairs. A couple small 4 man tables and
a wet
bar. From the looks of the room which is lit
by hanging
chandeliers (10% only lit) its a private
lounge. Likely where dancers can go to talk quietly
away from
the noise and crowd over various matters
away when
court is not held.]

[Chion re-enters
the Ballroom and heads to the south
door to
enter the hallway again. this time he
heads
West. After about 200 feet Chion finds the
hallway goes
north and West. Going West he sees the
hallway ends
at the west rock mountain wall. Going south
he finds two
doors. he decides to go East. Opening
the door he
first sees a person directly opposite him.
But being
invisible Chion is less concerned. From the
look of
crates, lockers and barrels it looks like a
storage
area. The man across the way seems to be slightly
balding and
heavy set. He turns around at the door entering
and says
something chion must figure to be "What?" or
"Who's
there?". The man puts down the lid of one crate
that holds
fruit and walks toward the door. Chion backs
away and the
man looks in the hallway and shakes his head.
He then
backs up and closes the door re-entering the
room.
Chion looks at the West door and opens it. From
the smell,
heat and layout of the room its clear what the
room is a
Kitchen.]

[Chion sees two
men in the kitchen probably cooks. One
is bending
over with a pot swirling something in it
over a fire
pot. The other back to the door as well
is chopping
up onions. to the left is a fire hearth.
Chion backs
up and checks his mental clock. Unsure
when the
invisible spell ends he recasts it after it
wears
off. He then re-enters the room and looks around.
He finds
theres plenty of food likely for at least 30
people
here. Sacks, pots, cooking pots, pans, meat,
cheese,
fruits and vegetables are all on the table.
Chion grabs
a peeled apple and a long cutting knife on
the
table. Both go invisible to the touch. Now Chion
has a weapon
and a snack. He backs out the room and
into the
hall way closing the door to the noise inside.
He then
takes a bit of apple. Being lunch time its
a good snack
for now. He heads toward the north tunnel.]

[Going north he
finds another door with another door
another few
feet away. But this one he hears noise
of talking,
laughing and other noises. Clearly its
occupied
with at least 6 or more people. Chion guesses
this to be
the people waiting for lunch. He decides
to skip this
room and continue northward.]

[At one point the
stone wall of tapestries divides the
hallway. He takes the West end. There he finds a
door and
enters. He finds it to be more stairs going
up. He
decides to go to the second floor.]

[Going south down
the hallway he finds a door on the
west side of
the stone/rock wall. He opens it and
peers
inside. He sees beds and a table. It looks
to be a
barracks room. Living quarters for the staff?
Two are in
bed laying down. A third is sitting up in
bed talking
to one standing. A 5th person is sitting
at the
center table. Two of the men look over to the
open
door. Curious though they don't say anything.
the Man at
the table grabs his mace on the table and
stands. Chion gets nervous and backs out the room.
The man
starts forward to the door. Exiting the room
he looks
north and south but sees no one. He shakes his
head and
closes the simple wooden door. He then turns
south and
heads down the hallway. The man attaches his
mace to his
belt. From the looks of him based on his
worn leather
armor, loose clothing and spurs on his boot
this man
must be a horseman. Likely the barracks for
the
calvary/horse riders of the castle? Chion decides to
follow the
man...]

GM: At this point
we stopped. More next update :) Hopefully
tonight or saturday we'll continue the exploration.
Now
for some book keeping. Its been 45 minutes of
exploration. At least 20 minutes of that has been in
the
hallways. Now to figure out spell use.
Invisible at the EL1 level lasts 2 minutes. You'll need
at
least 10 castings. Ok. We got some problems here.
This
is a major mana cost. 84 mana. Which would wipe
you
out. We may need to come up with a new policy.
Like
do you cast Invisibility only in the hallway?
I did
that already and only half the time spent and
still
we are at 14 castings (10 succ, 4 failures).
That's
alot of mana. The good news is your +1 EL
in
Invisibility and Insubstantial. So now you could
last
another minute invisible but at 6 mana per castings.
We
probably need to talk about this before we continue.
So as
not to wipe you out mana wise.

Time: 12:48pm [Roughly
45 minutes exploring]

[Outside the Castle -]

[Farseeker,
Caladan and Xian head out of the canyon to try
and find a
place to camp for the night.]
