[Recap]

From Z'leyra: [Re:
Actions[
Z'leyra, on the
way back to the village had introduced
Ben'dar to Corona
the eagle and Corona to Ben'dar. She will
also advise and
help him on treating/tanning the wolfskin.
She will also try
to determine if the missing rider left
anything that can
be used to track him via a tracking spell.

[Z'leyra mentions
to Corona that while she can travel in
time, it has to be
done very carefully and in some
circumstances
cannot be done without disaster.]

When she hears of
the deaths at the village Z'leyra bows her
head.

At the village
Z'leyra allows Ben'dar to say what happened.
She will then add
her deductions. "Apparently the rider knows
magic well enough
to convince distant observers that he changed
into a hawk and to
go invisible or teleport. Likely teleport
as he no longer
had a horse to ride nor did I find his tracks.
He had amazing
control over wolves and birds...such control
that I did not
want to risk my friend Corona <indicating the
eagle> or even
myself in eagle form. That the birds ceased
their attack upon
us is a clue suggesting that he teleported
far enough away so
that the birds were outside his range of
control."

"We may guess
that he is L'p'nth and seek to intercept him.
If he is not
a strong wizard he may not be able to teleport
all the way
back to the border. Perhaps we can get ahead of
him and
ambush him. He may be walking, he had to leave his
horse
behind. He may have convinced or forced some animals
to accompany
and guard him."

"Tracking by skill someone who teleports is a waste of time.
One
needs amazing luck as well as skill as only a couple
footprints may be found per mile...and one doesn't know in
which
direction or distance those footprints might be found.
Tracking by magic may be possible, but must be done soon if
at
all. I suggest we bring a strong enough force with the
tracker to deal with a number of dangerous animals as well
as the
wizard. The downside to the tracking spell is that
the
caster is compelled to track, this can be dangerous,
particularly if the rider has made it all the way to the
royal
castle in L'p'nth."

<If
she has found items likely to be useful in tracking
the rider she will use Orient Self and a Perception spell
w staff to determine if it would be useful. If yes then
she will volunteer to cast the tracking spell.>

Z'lerya says "Seems likely that the item stolen from the
grave was used to send wolves and birds against us. I
volunteer to help try to recover the item."
GM: Ack. As for
Tracking theres gear he has touched and
used
recently. The best item is a canteen. There is
of course no piece
of anatomy to use. Do you cast it
at the extended
power? The spells above are cast. It
is a useful
item. The spells would best be cast when
you find the item
rather than next day.

From Strie'bog: [Re:
Actions/Comments]
Sorry for the
delay. Work has me jammed right now.

I have gone over
the recent posts:

From update
#69
Balrog: "Maybe not. Strie'bog collects your stories.
Maybe
he can
record for the time we are here?"

Strie'bog looks around those gathered, "I will be happy to
collect your stories, and help train one to carry them for
you."

During
the 18 hours (if you will allow me to go back for a
moment), he will cast Purify, Knowlege and Wisdom and
meditate. Before hand, he will tell Thig that he is going
to
commune with the Court of Life, and explain the basics
of the
spell he is going to cast. He will also tell Balrog
what
he is going to do. It is obvious that the elder held
stories he had not passed on, so Strie'bog is going to use
Knowledge to try to unlock some of those stories (not only
to
help the current situation, but to also pass on to the
tribes
next story teller. I am not sure how specific you
want
this request, and I don't know if it is really dealing
with a
skill or not. He will use Wisdom to try to delve
deeper
into the mystery of the Bear Claw and the battle
fought
by the tribes years ago.

Also, in update
#69, the elder's story mentioned that the
tribes
sought the help of the forest people. Are their any
stories of Strie'bogs people that refer to this time period
or
this battle?

If I
get some time tonight, I will add to this.
GM: Ack. No problem on
delay. Since chion is exploring the
previous day of
your time frame I may have to hold off
the game till he
catches up. Interesting use of the spells.
And very specific
to your character. Good stuff.
[New Stuff]

Octaqi 17, in the 163rd Year
[TH]
[Meanwhile at Zaka's village -
Location 6 miles south-east
of Caladan's village.
Roughly 2.5 hour ride.
Time: Roughly
1:500pm

GM: Going back
retroactive to the previous day for this group...

[Strie'bog informs the
others of his plans to gain some
knowledge.
Its asking for information from the gods that
could be
dangerous. He'll be in a trance for seconds or
minutes. A
place is prepared for him in the village so
that no one
disturbs him. The cold however makes it
better for
Strie'bog to try from a empty Tipi. the Tipi
that holds the
village's food and other supplies is best.

Strie'bog purifies
the area with a quick magic set of
words. Not
knowing if the spell works he sits down
and prepares
mentally his spell. he puts his bag of gear
down and pulls out
his book he carries with him. He then
places his
Balalaika in his lap. Reading a few passages
from his book he
places the book down. As he is left in
the Tipi alone
Balrog decides to stand guard to make sure
no kids bother
him. He then plays a few chords from his
Balalaika and
concentrates speaking a few magical words.

The Knowledge
spell though does not seem to work. The gods
do not answer his
request. Either the spell failed or
the gods refuse to
answer on this request?

But there is an
alternative. he casts his Wisdom spell
which works
through nature's gods rather than other gods
in a direct
connection. A bardic version of knowledge.
He casts the
spells and he enters a trance. His fingers
loosen and
releases the Balalaika onto his lap as his eyes
close....]

[Outside Balrog talks to
Trembyl.]
Balrog: "This stuff
makes me spooked sometimes. This magic
and weird
words I hear from you guys."

Trembyl: "Its only
a part of nature. Think of it like your
skills to
assess a house for...errr...entry. Sorry but
you did
admit to your thief like skills on Clima." [Balrog
nods in
agreement and seems to understand] "A skill works
through
mental processes that we don't understand. How
one can
think in seconds and get data others can't. That
to some
seems magical. A shipwright that makes a boat
to a
barbarian would seem magical."

Balrog: "I
suppose. But still seems freaky."

[Seconds pass....minutes
pass....Balrog and Trembyl look
at each
other...more minutes pass...soon..]

Balrog: "Should we
check on him?"

Trembyl: "Might
better."

[Opening the tipi flap
they peer inside and see the candles
around Strie'bog
flickering. In the candle light they
see Strie'bog's
eyes still closed. Strie'bog seems to
jerk and twitch
slightly his facial and hand muscles.
Balrog looks at
Trembyl and both stand up closing the
flap.]

Balrog: "Should we
wake him?"

Trembyl:
"Dangerous. We don't know if we break his connection
to
whatever it is he is doing could harm him."

Balrog: "So just
leave him be?"

Trembyl:
"Yes. If he yells in pain though we'll have to
do something
then..."

[Strie'bog's mind floods
with images....words....many
spoken words some
strange and others he can understand...
more images...then
as quickly as it started Strie'bog
wakes up from the
trance.]

[Strie'bog thinks and
tries to assimilate the information
he seems to have
learned. But its confusing and so much
data. Its as
if a modern computer uploaded megabytes
of information to
his brain and he can't sift through it
yet. It may
take some time...]

[Strie'bog looks around
the Tipi. His body seems to ache.
His hands are
aching as well. Strange his mouth is dry.
His stomach begins
to growl and gain his attention. Suddenly
he is very
hungry. Mentally he seems exhausted and drained.
Then he looks
around the Tipi. The candles are all but
burnt out.
Only one barely half an inch up remains. The
others have burnt
out. Strange. Strie'bog gathers his
Balalaika and
stands up. But he becomes dizzy and disoriented.
It takes him a
minute or two as he catches himself on a box.
Then gaining his
strength he stands up and walks to the flap.
He pulls it
back. What the? Its night? No sun at all.
He exits the tent
and finds a sleeping Balrog by the flap.
Strie'bog looks
around and wonders what's going on. Then
he sees stars and
only a few in the village still up and
about. The
party seems to have gone back to Caladan's village
or stayed in the
center area camping. Balrog stirs hearing
the Balalaika
making a thump noise.]

Balrog:
"hrm?...oh!...Strie'bog! Its been hours. You ok?
You were in
the trance all night."

[Strie'bog then realizes
the trance lasted not seconds or
minutes but
hours....it was little after noon when he
started after the
funeral. Now its night and the stars
are out....]

[Strie'bog looks around
and a headache starts. If its
been hours maybe
it'll take hours to assimilate all
the
information? But there is one strange thing he
can seem to
recall...a word...a word a female spoke in
his mind over and
over ..."Vong"]
Octaqi 18, in the 163rd Year
[TH]
[Meanwhile at Zaka's village -
Location 6 miles south-east
of Caladan's village.
Roughly 2.5 hour ride.
Time: Roughly
9:50am]

[Upon Ben'dar and
Z'leyra's arrive both parties exchange
details of their
time spent. Since it wasn't posted
to hold a fact
back both sides know full detail as seen
in the
posts.

GM: Ben'dar do you
mention the Gold Bars to Z'leyra and
others? That's one fact I wasn't sure.

Trembyl: "So you
let...wait...Corona? He has a name. Its
been
weeks. Did you just name him or what? What was
I
saying? Oh yes. So you let the rider go?"

Balrog: "You didn't
listen well. He said the rider escaped
using that
magic stuff. Ben'dar got one of them."

Kasha: "My question
is why did it take a full day? If
it only took
a little bit to find him why didn't you
return right
away instead of hours later?"

Thig: "Also why
didn't the wizard...rider..whatever he was
come
back? He could've taken care of you that night
or used the
control of your horses to knock you off
and kill you
right there? The Elder mentioned this
claw thing
could control nature. So know we know it
controls the
animal part of nature."

Trembyl: "Could it
control nature in terms of weather or
the
elements?"

Thig: "Your the
Elementalist here. Your guess is as good
as
mine."

Kasha: "Why do you
say L'p'nth Z'leyra? Yes. They are
the big
enemies in the area for Marentia and the Zen'da
but what
evidence do you have its them?"

Unali: "The Royal
castle has got to be thousands of miles
from
here. That's quite a distance."
GM: Ok. So I spoke
for you to give you some interaction on
what your
character would know of the area :)

Thig: "A tracking
spell might work. We'll have to hurry
though. We'll need to return to Caladan's village to
get some
gear we left."

Trembyl: "The
problem is if he can control animals then
our horses
are subject to influence. Not only that
the
Eagle...err..Corona...Boyzdar, Pogo and Ventrius."

Thig: "Yes.
I'll keep my dogs here with the others in
Caladan's
village."

[Zaka listens to all
this and is slightly confused by
some of the
talk.]

Trembyl: "We've
still not heard from Caladan and them.
Its been
hours. We don't know where they are assuming
they've not
gotten back to Caladan's village. The plains
is a huge
place to search. The tracking spell will
have to be a
critical success or we'll lose days if
not weeks of
tracking."

--------------------------------------------------------

[Meanwhile somewhere in the
mountains to the east of
Woundenal's Cabin, At
the Castle Time: c. 11-1pm]

[In the Castle -]

[Chion continues
to follow the horse rider guard. He
determines
its a horse rider from his boots/spurs.
The man
continues south and then turns left to the
east hallway
and continues walking down a 200 foot
span to his
destination. In the meantime Chion crosses
the hallway
to the doors across the way. First at C55
and
C44. At both doors he hears men voices talking
among
themselves. He decides to skip that room for now.]

[Chion then
crosses to the north side to a room door there
at
F42. He listens and hears voices as well inside talking
and
laughing. He decides to skip them. Looking down the
hall he sees
the guard he followed stop in front of a door
and talk to
a standing guard. Both are talking. Chion
continues
eastward behind a rock wall divider in the
middle of
the hallway. He explores the north section of
that part of
the castle. But he decides to back track.]

[Peering around
the rock wall he sees the guard he followed
has left the
area and the guard is still standing there
guarding the
iron door. Most doors up to this point
aside from
the Entry front door was wooden. Something
important
must be inside. The guard is wearing chainmail
and holding
a long spear.

[Chion backs
behind the wall and casts spells. Another
invisibility, levitate and insubstantial. He then floats
toward the
room the guard is standing in front. He
merges into
the room lit by a couple lanterns. Chion
immediately
sees metal food lockers, wooden crates and
other
boxes. He floats around the room and then seeing no
use for the
spell floats through the side walls to explore
the nearby
rooms. To the west the room he heard voices
he finds
beds (many of them). Another barracks room.
Several men
are in the room (at least 2-3 in the bed)
and others
standing around talking. He backs into the
Armory and
checks the other wall. There he finds a
darker room
with only a dim lantern. In this room is
a bed with
shackles, shelf of instruments and a small
table and
chairs. On the bed and table are specks of
blood.
Chion figures this must be based on the instruments
and blood a
torture/interrogation room. Chion quickly
re-enters
the Armory just as the spells fade. He
then spends
at least 8 minutes exploring boxes and such.
he finds
weapons, armor, equipment for infantry and
other
supplies. Finding a crate with 3 small tents and
a rather
large one he gets an idea. He starts to rush
around and
putting the boxes all into a pile as best
he
can. Placing the most valuable items in a pile and
leaving the
heavy lockers where he can. But as he
moves one
box a top falls off and smacks a large metal
locker full
of boots. The guard outside hears this and
Chion hears
a key being entered in the door. He quickly
grabs the
nearest weapon he can find. He had the knife
he took from
the kitchen in his belt but he finds a
throwing
dagger in one crate he saw recently. He
grabs it and
tries to jump behind a box for a better
view.
But as the door opens Chion is seen diving.
As the guard
is about to pull his spear and turn around
to call for
help Chion stands and throws the
throwing
dagger right at the guard. The dagger
flies
forward but impacts against the wall to the
right of the
guard missing by a couple inches. the
guard pulls
up his spear and decides to take Chion on
rather than
call for help. If the person can't throw
a dagger
then he certainly can't fight the guard think.

As the man
lunges the 5 feet forward and thrusts his
spear over
the edge of the crate the spear misses just
as Chion is
able to move slightly. Chion climbs up
onto a
smaller box and leaps over the crate. Landing
on the
ground he twists and plunges his fighting dagger
into the
guard's chest. But the Chainmail protects all
but 5
points. The wound bleeds out as Chion pulls the
dagger out
but the man continues to stand.

The Guard
does a undercut thrust of his spear at Chion
but the
spear goes between Chion's left arm and body
missing
clearly. Chion takes the dagger and plunges
it to the
left side of the chest. The Dagger penetrates
and hits
lung. It does 21 points of damage and the
dagger
penetrates deep. The man coughs up blood and
sags to the
floor. Chion turns and quickly heads to
the door and
locks it. Now its only a matter of time
before he is
discovered or the missing guard is discovered.

[Chion gathers in
one location all within arm's length
seven crates
3-4' by 3 feet wide, 1 metal locker (5'x3'),
and a square
squat box. He leaves in the room a few
now empty
crates, boxes and many heavy lockers all
empty.
All the gear could be stacked into place here.
Chion
notices no ranged weapons like bows or crossbows.
But then
again Javelin and Spears can be thrown. Based
on the
number of weapons there must be at least 50-75
fighters
here (calvary, footmen, guards, etc.).]

[Chion continues
to stack and gather up the boxes. Its
a matter of
time before someone notices the guard missing.
Unless they
know the procedures of the castle its only
time when
the situation is discovered. After 15 minutes
of work he
finishes with sweat drenching from his arms
and
head. The room is a bit stuffy. Come to think of
it Chion
never noticed air vents? So how does the smoke
leave?
Oh well. Maybe its a small hole somewhere.]

[Happy with
himself he goes to the corner where he found
a inventory
slate with a small box for ink and scrolls.
Likely for
inventory. None of the scrolls are written
on but Chion
sits down on a box and writes those in the
castle a
note smiling as he does so...]

[Chion returns to
the stack and then finishes up. Taking
a large tent
covering that could likely be for a command
post
spreading out 30x20 feet (?) he spreads it all over
the boxes
and lockers. tucking it into place to ensure
its all
covered up and attached. He moves the guard
away from
the pile. As he does he notices some rather
nasty
looking blisters on his right arm. Two bug bites?
Something
must be in their barracks?]

[When he is
satisfied he casts a spell....as he does so
he hopes he
doesn't fail since if he does his plan of
escape could
be ruined since he is low on magical strength.]

[Outside the Castle -]

[Farseeker and the
others decide to head out. Its going
to be hours
till Chion returns the next morning. Its
decided that
they will need a night camping site. But
here too
close to the castle its too risky. They head
out of the
valley taking each body they recently killed
with them on
the dead people's horses. Xian not being
a real
experienced rider has trouble with the female body
on his horse
and guiding so Farseeker helps lead the horse
slowly. As the valley continues to curve and wind it
takes a good
20 minutes before there is a incline out of
the valley
and up into the highlands. The sheer cliffs
around the
valley are at least 50 plus feet (up to 200
feet in some
places). Likely some ancient river bed.
After they
re-enter the highlands they gain their bearings
and head
back east toward the castle's general location.
Now as they
gain height they climb into the hills and
the high
mountain. By now a half hour has passed and
Chion is now
in the prison cells planning his escape.

At this
point Farseeker realizes that they made a mistake.
They didn't
coverup the blood spots. A slight tactical
mistake if
they send a patrol out and find recent blood
they'll send
more patrols out risking their location.
Farseeker
decides to head back to the valley and the
spot they
ambushed the 3 riders. Caladan and Xian continue
on. As
Farseeker gallops off gaining speed downhill Caladan
wonders if
that was a wide move not to go with him. But
Farseeker
should be able to handle things.]

[Meanwhile by now
Chion has escaped and is exploring. When
he finds the
2nd floor Armory he plans another move.
As he
gathers the gear above he casts his spell. The
Teleport
spell takes over 6 seconds to cast the high level
spell.
The room walls revert and then Chion appears outside
in the spot
they ambushed the riders. He had hoped by
now the
party had moved. They had. Otherwise it have been
a messy
site. Either way though the teleport sport was off
to the side
where the party wasn't standing just in case.
Chion sees
nothing or no one. Except for blood spots and
horse/foot
tracks. Now what? He can't teleport back to
Caladan's
village with so low on mana without his staff.]

[A few minutes
later a rider is seen coming but Chion can't
hide much in
the open area. He waits and sees Farseeker.
After a
couple minutes Farseeker stops his horse in wonder
and wonders
why there is a stack of crates around Chion?]

Farseeker:
"Chion? What's wrong? Your early? Did
something
happen? What's in the boxes? The others are looking for
a
campsite. Right over that cliff side."
[Farseeker
dismounts and awaits a reply. Chion sees his
staff on
Farseeker's horse.]

GM: Keep in mind the
gear is over 1000 pounds. It'll be
quite hard
hauling anywhere. Burning it could make
smoke
obvious but aside from that would take hours to
melt down if
you plan to destroy it. There's really
little
choice 1) leave the gear outside in the valley
where it can
be found 2) teleport back to village or 3)
teleport to
the planned night camp. Course Chion
could come
up with another plan I've not thought of :)
GM: Ok. Sorry for delay. I had 3
chances to upload it but
with my brain not cooperating and
other things couldn't.
Finally finished it up. As a
GM though I was thrown for
a GOOD loop when Chion thought of
his teleport idea in ICQ
and Strie'bog's use of spell in an
interesting fashion. Both
may be benefical to the
adventure. In what way though it
may not seem obvious at first.
Chion now has a chance to
return to Caladan's village.
If he does decide to do this
he'd be joined up with the others in
the morning. We can
then skip to the morning and have
everyone in one group.
Course in the castle hours would
have passed and Chion's
escape would've been detected for
sure? Otherwise I'll have
to get with Chion in ICQ again to
figure out our next move.
The problem with Chion exploring is
he is running out of
mana. If the day changes
everyone's mana will improve.
Once I know where we are going with
Chion though I'll get
to that and report those
changes.

Consider this the Friday update...Map of the
castle is updated
ont he website on what he has explored. Course
the people
positions are as of the last explored
time.
