[Recap]

From Ben'dar: [Re:
Actions]
<before the
burial>

Ben'Dar puts a
hand on Caladan's shoulder and whispers back,
"No my
friend, I have not forgotten the ways of the People
or the
peculiarities of shamans and their animal kinship.
It's just
that when it comes to this shaman...." Ben'Dar
shrugs and
continues, "He has insulted us and betrayed us
and treated
all of us shamefully. And no amount of
explanations
or hand-wringing- excuses from him can change
the fact
that he will die when this is over. My honor will
accept
nothing less. I welcome an excuse to even the score.
However, I
will not provoke it until we have accomplished
your mission
and helped your people."
GM: Ack.

Caladan: "This is a
dangerous situation. Be careful or you'll
be in serious
trouble. [He looks around] We all will be."

[New Stuff]

Octaqi 18, in the 163rd Year
[TH]
[Meanwhile somewhere on the
plains]
Time: Roughly
11:35am] [Day 48 of Trip]

From Ben'dar
<after the
burial>

Ben'Dar shrugs at
Cetric's accusations and stares back with
an equally
emotionless gaze. "I did not lie to you. And I
take great offense
at your insinuations. Yes, I skinned a
wolf, though it is
none of your business what I do out on
the plains with an
animal I have killed." Ben'Dar snorts in
amusement and adds
derisively, "Since when do you decide what
Warriors can and
cannot do with their own property, Shaman?"

Ben'Dar's face
shows some anger now as he continues, "And
where do you find
the courage to question my honor after the
way you lied to me
and my friends, poisoned us, imprisoned
us, then forced
upon us the farce of your tests to try to
discredit us, all
the while bringing dishonor to yourself
and your
tribe?" His arm sweeps wide to indicate Caladan and
the warriors
backing Cetric up as he says this last.

Ben'Dar makes no
move toward his weapon, but leans forward in
his saddle and
looks down on Cetric with a gleam in his eye
and says, "I
am more than willing to 'do the right thing',
Cetric. If,
by ' doing the right thing', you mean defending
my honor which you
have dragged through the mud with your
past actions and
with your current arrogant accusations! I
have been more
than patient with you. I accept your challenge
to single combat.
However, even now I will forbear: I will
respect the will
of my honorable friend Caladan. I will
postpone this
until we have accomplished what my friends and
I came here to
do. But be assured Cetric, I do indeed have
a score to settle
with you when this is all over."

Ben'Dar leans back
in his saddle, his face a stern mask,
his eyes full of
cold fury. He does nothing, but merely
stares at Cetric
to see what the shaman will do next....

[Cetric stares back with fiery
eyes as he listens to the
words and studies
Ben'dar. From his side vision he
notices the others and
tests their reactions. Long seconds
pass...]

Cetric: "Being young
allows one bold courage and words.
It also makes
fools of those who don't know the world.
Your challenge is
heard. Rin, why don't you tell them
how many young
warriors like our foolish friend here
I've
dropped."

[One of the warriors who came
with Cetric moves his horse
forward a few feet then
speaks up.]

Rin: "At last count
twenty two knock outs, fourteen deaths
and three wounded
beyond disgrace."

Balrog: "Beyond
disgrace?"

Caladan: "Wounded in such
a way they can no longer be
a man or
warrior. Like being paralyzed."

Cetric: "Thank you
Rin. A proper warrior as you know
doesn't speak of
his victories. He has a fellow lodge
member speak for
him. But you still do not understand."
[He shakes his
head] "This ..." [He waves his right
arm and hand up
and waving toward the burial area. Then
to the warriors,
then to the party members then to
Ben'dar then
brings his hand back onto his chest.] "..
is all bigger than
you and me." [He then waves his
arm high to the
sky] "It is bigger than the Zen'da
or the
Ga'sha. The spirits demand this. The spirits
seek revenge...Its
one thing to skin an animal in
the hunt if you
are a fair hunter. One that does not
trap a defenseless
animal or hunt with dishonor. Its
one thing to skin
a animal for need. If you need food,
leather for
clothing and other items of the animal.
All those are
valid. Even my friends the wolves in
those cases would
be accepted. Though I may not like
the idea
personally."

"But in this case
and as you were well aware...these
wolves were not
under their own control. Yes. You
had no choice but
to defend yourselves. That's fine.
When an animal is
out of its mind its a disgrace to
skin them because
they could not defend themselves
as they should
have. If you keep the skin you do
them
dishonor. You do the spirits dishonor. If
you return
them...if you do the right thing...they
will go back in
the ground with the animal. The
spirits would see
this as a good thing. You already
skinned the animal
and made them upset. If you don't
want further
trouble...not from me...but from them...
you'll do the
right thing. I won't defend you against
those
spirits...and I do know how to do so...if you
don't do
this. If you do and they are still upset
I will help
you. What do you say young warrior?"
