Game Update #83 in sequence (file #304]<br>
----------------------------------------------------------------<br>
<br>
Admin notes: Ok. No one but one person
tried the stardate<br>
trivia question. So here's the
answer. 1018163.48 = 10 (Octagi<br>
or 10th month), 18 is the day, 163 is the year
(Thaliban) and<br>
.48 is the 48th day of the trip. :)
Stupid eh?<br>
-----------------------------------------------------------------<br>
[Recap]<br>
<br>
From Ben'dar: [Re:
Actions]<br>
OOC: I'm not
sure if Ben'Dar is still with Cetric and the<br>
others or has
already moved off to his own camp... I'm<br>
assuming he's
still near enough to hear Z'leyra's comments.<br>
<br>
IC: Ben'Dar
nods wordlessly to Z'leyra's query and begins<br>
making quick
preparations for the night hike. He will lead<br>
Tef'wo and
Z'leyra's horse and walk, following Z'leyra as<br>
she tracks.
He smiles at Thig and says, "Your night eyes<br>
will be very
useful on the hunt this night!"<br>
<br>
In response to the
various comments about not going on in<br>
the darkness, he
says bluntly (as always), "Sometimes risks<br>
must be taken in
our line of work. There is great evil<br>
afoot and we would
be foolish to waste the useful tracking<br>
magic of Z'leyra
by quitting the hunt for the night. There<br>
is little danger
to the horses since we will be leading, not<br>
riding them,
especially with our Sidh friends to help. If<br>
you need help
handling your horse in the darkness, I will<br>
assist
you."<br>
<br>
He looks at those
of his friends who had indicated a preference<br>
for staying with
Cetric rather than camping with him and/or<br>
staying behind
with Cetric rather than traveling on with<br>
Z'leyra and gives
them a somewhat confused and hurt look, as<br>
if bonds of
friendship had been betrayed, but says nothing<br>
further.
Instead, he turns back to Tef'wo and continues his<br>
preparations.<br>
GM: Yes. You would hear
her comments. I'm going with Z'leyra's<br>
post that the
horse is left with the camp. :) Since Alex<br>
did not reply to
this otherwise so going with original action.<br>
<br>
--------------------<br>
<br>
From Strie'bog: [Re:
Actions]<br>
At the end of the
story, Farseeker asked where Strie'bog had<br>
learned it.<br>
<br>
"My mother
taught it to me Farseeker. It is one she tells<br>
every year
at the festival of rebirth, when the snows begin<br>
to melt and
the plants awaken from their long slumber."<br>
<br>
Wistfully,
he adds, "she knows many stories." Strie'bog<br>
will listen
to the discussions of others and Z'leyra's<br>
discussion
about tracking. He will stay ready for when<br>
they move
out.<br>
GM: Ack. But I take you
stay with the others for now.<br>
<br>
--------------------<br>
<br>
From Chion: [Re:
Actions]<br>
Chion will travel
with her if she is under compulsion to track.<br>
Seems logical to
him - if one is compelled and one is not, its<br>
pretty balanced.
Whomever else wishes to come along or stay<br>
behind perhaps
they can do a telepathy contact to maintain<br>
teleportation
ability if the group doesn't go to far away (my<br>
guess is we'll be
out of range for telepathy though). In any<br>
event, Chion's
response to Cetric talking to Thig is again to<br>
laugh at Cetric.
Not to loud, but definately directly at him.<br>
GM: Ack. Cetric ignores
the laugh. I had typed up the bulk of<br>
this update last
night so at that point didn't know you were<br>
going with the
other 2. So the below text reflects this.<br>
I ended with the
morning healings. Ok. You being there<br>
doesn't change
encounter chances. I redid the rolls. But<br>
you'd be as tired
as Ben'dar however so will be reflected<br>
in any future
combats. <br>

[New Stuff]<br>
<br>
Octaqi 18, in the 163rd Year
[TH]<br>
[Meanwhile somewhere on the
plains]<br>
Location: 11.5 Miles SE
of Caladan's Village<br>
Time: Roughly
6:00pm] [Day 48 of Trip]<br>
<br>
[As the sun sets the party
prepares for camp. Z'leyra<br>
explains that she is
compelled by the magic of the tracking<br>
spell to continue
tracking or suffer some ill effects.<br>
Thig and Ben'dar offer
and prepare to help her on the night<br>
hike.]<br>
<br>
[Ben'dar comments on Thig's
night vision]<br>
<br>
Thig: "Don't depend on my
night eyes. Of all the senses at<br>
night smell and
hearing can be the most critical. We<br>
are somewhat lucky
that during cold nights as this sounds<br>
and smells travel
further than in the warmer times. There<br>
is always a chance
I may miss something. You come at<br>
your own
risk."<br>
<br>
[Ben'dar comments on those who
choose to stay the night.]<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Travel at night
much less camping on the plains<br>
is fairly
dangerous. Wolves and snakes are one thing.<br>
But other..."
[he looks out into the darkness] "...<br>
monsters exist out
there."<br>
<br>
Farseeker: "I'm not
losing a horse again! Black was a great<br>
horse I had for
years...to have to kill him for a stupid<br>
accident was a
lesson I care not to repeat. The situation<br>
may be critical
but Z'leyra knows where the target is and<br>
how far he
is. Its not like he will lose us. A few hours<br>
or even a
day...it'll catch up to him."<br>
<br>
Kasha: "I'm
sorry. Z'leyra won't tire it seems from this<br>
walk but we
will. If everyone goes the enemy will have<br>
a clear advantage
as we'll be more tired in a fight due<br>
to lack of
sleep."<br>
<br>
Balrog: "Good luck out
there. It is good your walking rather<br>
than riding.
You may not get that far and we should<br>
be able to catch
up easily."<br>
<br>
Thig: "If there is a
problem I can fly back and get help."<br>
<br>
[A few minutes later the Trio
and Tef'wo head out with Thig<br>
flying in the
lead. They head out into the darkness as<br>
Caladan
explains...]<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Best not to use
fire. Its one thing to set a campfire<br>
but traveling with
a torch only attracts attention from<br>
the creatures on
the plains. The wolves may leave you alone<br>
but the other foul
creatures won't."<br>
<br>
[As they leave the camp and
out of sight...]<br>
<br>
Cetric: "I'm surprised
she couldn't just end the spell and<br>
hunt in the
day?"<br>
<br>
Caladan: "That is not her
style it seems. They certainly are<br>
proving their
determination to get the thief even if we<br>
remain
here."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Yes but we'll
catch them in the morning. Its<br>
crude to travel
and not sleep! A sleepy warrior is<br>
a distracted and a
dead one."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "True but I know
Z'leyra will not tire from this<br>
spell. But
I'm unsure if she will get hungry."<br>
<br>
[Farseeker replies to
Strie'bog from above.]<br>
<br>
Farseeker: "Your mother
sounds wise. You would like to know<br>
Kaylle. He
is a scholar and could write a whole book<br>
on these kind of
stories."<br>
<br>
--------------------------------<br>
<br>
[As the party makes camp and
watches are set for the horses<br>
and those sleeping the
stars begin to shine through the<br>
clouds above. But
there is no moon this night as the<br>
temperature drops into
the middle 50s. Dinner is eaten<br>
and stories are
shared.]<br>
<br>
[As Farseeker and Kasha begin
to chat with the other 4<br>
Zen'da warriors Caladan
and Cetric share a corner of the<br>
camp as Balrog and Jordi
stand watch.]<br>
<br>
Caladan: "So my brothers
are doing what? I understand one<br>
went to hunt where
is the other?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Gidwani went
north with four other hunters to gather<br>
and scout for
winter game. They left only two days before<br>
you got to the
village. Durge went east to investigate some<br>
of the problems we
were hearing. But that was almost two<br>
weeks
ago."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "That is what
father said. But I don't understand<br>
Durge has been
gone two weeks and no word?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "You know as well
as I the plains are vast. Even<br>
with the swiftest
pony it takes many days to cross the<br>
plains."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "That is what
father said as well."<br>
<br>
[Cetric leans closer so only
Caladan can hear though Unali<br>
and Strie'bog can strain
to hear.]<br>
<br>
Cetric: "I'm
worried. Durge should have returned or sent<br>
word by now.
You know your brother he is head strong<br>
like you.
Like Gib'borah. The whole family line seems to<br>
be that way.
But that is what makes your father a strong<br>
leader.
Durge went with three of our best scouts. At<br>
least one
should've returned by now. That was the plan<br>
at
least."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Do you think
something happened to him?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "I don't
know. But that does not worry me as much<br>
as something
else. Your father has been weakened lately.<br>
Three months ago
he and some warriors went to the river to<br>
check on some
raids to Clan Algar who only has a few<br>
Tipi on the
riverbank. They were ambushed by other Zen'da<br>
which is not
unusual at times. We don't know their clan<br>
but likely they
were Fel'masa. In the battle Gib'borah<br>
was wounded in the
leg. An infection occurred that led<br>
him to stay near
the river for three days. Shaman Luan<br>
went to help heal
him and did. But it seemed to have<br>
done more mental
damage than physical. Since then his<br>
strength is
drained." [he pauses and then continues] "<br>
In the eyes of the
tribe he has lost ground. Some<br>
warriors have
talked about it but not in open. The<br>
elders still
respect and support him though."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Why tell me
this? You know as well as I that<br>
he is growing in
age. By his time most Ga'sha are<br>
dead or so wounded
from combat they wish they were dead."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "I tell you this
because I'm sure he would not have<br>
told you. I
am concerned. If you leave the tribe the<br>
warriors may see
this as further lost ground. They could<br>
try a right of
power. I plead for you to stay and help<br>
me with the
tribe."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Durge is second
in line he is to be the one."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Yes. But
he has no leadership skills. He is<br>
a good fighter but
he daydreams of exploration to the<br>
north and wonders
what is out there. Not what is of<br>
our thousands of
tribesmen. The warriors will never<br>
support
him."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "They will have
no choice if the Gib'borah<br>
speaks the final
word."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "You have been
away too long. The Western<br>
Tribes are gaining
more power and drawing warriors<br>
away by the
month. The Eastern tribes are shrinking.<br>
The elders are
trying to placate the warriors and<br>
families to
stay. By doing this the warriors can seem<br>
to ask for what
they want and likely get it."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Nonsense the
Ga'--"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Cal it will go
this way I speak the truth in<br>
this. Seek
your heart and you'll know."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Why do you want
me to stay here so much after<br>
all we've been
through? All that you disrespect me<br>
and my
friends. The way the warriors don't accept me<br>
as it
is?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "You may not be a
strong warrior like Braol with<br>
the lodge but you
are skilled in leadership. Together<br>
I can help you to
further those skills. If you don't<br>
stay we'll have to
train Durge....which is like training<br>
a pony to
fly."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "I'll have to
think on it."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Do so. I'm
afraid time will tell the answer though<br>
in the next few
days. I feel things have changed on the<br>
plains. Not
only in our tribe but we are in for a change<br>
on a vast
scale...."<br>
<br>
<br>
--------------------------------<br>
<br>
[The tracking continues aside
from breathing and the<br>
footfalls its rather
quiet. The flaps of Thig's wings<br>
keep the two humans
focused forward. As far as ground<br>
holes or dangers Z'leyra
runs into none. But around<br>
8:17pm Ben'dar almost
steps into a hole as the ground<br>
collapses under his
foot. A old prairie dog tunnel perhaps.<br>
But no danger is
taken. Ben'dar curses but Thig could not<br>
have seen it as it
looked solid until stepped on. That<br>
is one of the dangers of
night travel much less day travel.<br>
<br>
At one point around 3am
Z'leyra suddenly stops and looks<br>
at the south-east.
Ben'dar comes up alongside and Thig<br>
returns as well.
Z'leyra explains the thief is moving<br>
and over a short period
of time seems to move about<br>
a half mile further
south-east. Then after a short<br>
period begins to come
back and stay there. Thig wonders<br>
if maybe the thief had
to eat or was restless?<br>
<br>
For the rest of the
night no encounters take place for<br>
the camped or tracking
party. Soon the sun begins to<br>
rise as fog overtakes
the campsite. By now the trackers<br>
have made 8 miles on
foot. Ben'dar is getting rather<br>
exhausted and feels like
riding but Z'leyra is not one bit<br>
of tired as she drinks
from her water container. During<br>
the night they ate while
hiking. Ben'dar looks back and<br>
doesn't see the camp 8
miles behind them.]<br>
<br>

<br>
Octaqi 19, in the 163rd Year
[TH]<br>
[Meanwhile somewhere on the
plains]<br>
Location: 11.5 Miles SE
of Caladan's Village<br>
Time: Roughly
6:00am] [Day 49 of Trip]<br>
<br>
GM: Ok. New Day. Day
49. Now to update some character sheets.<br>
<br>
Balrog fails to heal Energy
Level [Poison damaged still]<br>
<br>
Ben'dar heals the last 1
Energy Point (Poison damage] and is<br>
now 100% lifeforce
and physical. The effects of the poison<br>
is finally out of
his system.<br>
<br>
Chion heals the last of his
wounds (1 point) and is now at<br>
100% health and
lifeforce. He gets back some mana but<br>
unfournately is
only still at 20% of full magic power.<br>
So is low on
casting ability at this point.<br>
<br>
Back at Caladan's village
Trembyl heals more poison damage<br>
and is only 1
Energy Level point down but at now full<br>
magical
strength.<br>
<br>
Strie'bog heals no Energy
level (still -3) but is at full<br>
health. He
regenerates some mana and now is at 40% of<br>
full magical power
(mana wise). So also low on casting<br>
ability.<br>
<br>
Z'leyra heals the last of her
damage (1 point) and is now<br>
at 100% health and
energy level. I'll have to figure<br>
out mana scores
and report them to you in ICQ.<br>
<br>
That should make all at 100%
health. Some minor energy<br>
level damage but not critical.
Two spell casters though<br>
at weak casting power and spells
will have to be selective.<br>
<br>
--------------------------------<br>
<br>
[Ben'dar and Z'leyra continue on foot as
the sun rises.<br>
Corona flies high above. The
party breaks camp and<br>
sets out on horse to catch up.
Hours pass.]<br>
<br>
[The day starts out rather warm.
Even though its cloudy<br>
by 11am it reaches 80 degrees.
Warm enough to strip some<br>
of the warmer clothing. Around
that time (11am) the<br>
party sees a lone horse going south
to north. The rider<br>
seems to spot the party and diverts
to meet the party.<br>
As the two approach the rider slows
down cautiously.<br>
<br>
At about 200 feet the rider stares
at the party. The<br>
tension is broke when Cetric rides
forward to talk to<br>
the rider with 2 of his
warriors. Cetric waves the<br>
party forward.]<br>
<br>
Cetric: "He is party of a shaman's
party from the north.<br>
They are out collecting some
herbs."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Does he know of any thing
going on out here?"<br>
<br>
[After a few minutes of quick talking in
Zen'da Cetric<br>
comments back.]<br>
<br>
Cetric: "No. He hasn't seen
anyone in two days. Then<br>
it was a hunting party.
He is on his way back to his<br>
home."<br>
<br>
[The rider turns and begins to travel
off. Apparently he<br>
has heard of Cetric and even Caladan
so doesn't seem to<br>
surprised to see outsiders on the
plains. The rider has<br>
a large pack of herbs and plants on
his saddle.]<br>
<br>
Kasha: "Is that common?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Oh yes. I myself and
others often go hunting for<br>
herbs and such.
Especially this time of year when the<br>
plants may begin to die till
spring. "<br>
<br>
[Hours pass again as lunch is eaten on the
journey. While<br>
the party gains distance in closing
to the trackers the<br>
trackers also gain distance from
them. So its a game of<br>
catch up. Even though the
party on horses is going almost<br>
twice as fast as Z'leyra on foot it
does take some time to<br>
span the gap of distance.
Finally at 4pm that afternoon.<br>
<br>
Corona swoops down to Z'leyra and
reports the party is seen<br>
far to the west about 2 miles
behind. Z'leyra turns and<br>
waits. This allows Ben'dar to
rest his aching legs. Z'leyra<br>
isn't even out of breath. But
Tef'wo quickly gobbles down<br>
grasses as he hasn't had time to eat
much on the trip.<br>
<br>
The party sees Z'leyra eventually
and speed up their pace<br>
having followed her clear tracks on
the plains. In the<br>
distance to the south a haze is seen
from the heat changes<br>
on the plains. By now the
party has made 15 miles from<br>
their night camp while Z'leyra and
ben'dar made another 10<br>
miles from the camp (for a total of
18 miles).<br>
<br>
By now the party is slightly over 30
miles South East of<br>
Caladan's village.]<br>
<br>
[Z'leyra and Ben'dar mount their horses
now that the group<br>
is back together.]<br>
<br>
[Z'leyra comments the thief is about 50
miles south-south<br>
east. He hasn't moved much all
day other than about 10<br>
or so miles.]<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Why isn't he moving
more?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Could be he is where he
needs to be."<br>
<br>
Kasha: "What is in that
direction?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "The border lies in that
direction. Ser'manda lands<br>
is due south but at one point
about ...30-40 miles from<br>
here is the border where
Ser'manda meets Ga'fel and the<br>
Noya Bova."<br>
<br>
Balrog: "How can you tell where the
border lies?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Its hard for outsiders but
there are subtle markers.<br>
Most of the times the border
overlaps and sometimes its<br>
common to cross the tribal
borders by accident. The<br>
markers may be as simple as
rocks or a lone tree. It takes<br>
many years to know the
markers. This is why I asked Lodd<br>
to join me as he knows the
border markers well in this area."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Then if he has continued in
that direction he is<br>
in the Bova
territory."<br>
<br>
Farseeker: "Is that bad?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "The Bova are Zen'da.
But they are opportunist and<br>
isolated in their
motives. If they feel like it they will<br>
work against other Zen'da if
it promotes their influence<br>
on the plains."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Also the bova are known to
associate with L'p'nth<br>
and even work with them if it
helps their cause."<br>
<br>
Kasha: "Could the thief be Bova
then?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Don't know. But if he is it
makes sense in some<br>
regards. This castle was
on L'p'nth grounds. Its odd<br>
that it shows back up on the
map when the trouble starts.<br>
Then the thief clearly goes
this direction."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Most outsiders who flee go
north to the forests or<br>
to the river to escape the
Zen'da. So for him to come<br>
this way must have
meaning."<br>
<br>
Farseeker: "What can we
expect?"<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Don't know they have many
good warriors but ...<br>
Lodd do they have villages
nearby?"<br>
<br>
[The Zen'dar warriors speaks up.]<br>
<br>
Lodd: "We have two clans that are
between here and the border<br>
for the Bova. One
clan the Laru are nomadic and may move<br>
in a 30 mile area around one
spot depending on the amount<br>
of grass their animals
eat. The Ser'manda have a village<br>
about 15 miles in the border
to the south. The Bova have<br>
a large family clan tipi group
about 30 miles into the<br>
border toward the south
east."<br>
<br>
Farseeker: "So if he is 50 miles that
way and based on the<br>
information he is not at that
village yet? But may be<br>
moving toward it?"<br>
<br>
Lodd: "Last count the village had
about 30 families. Maybe<br>
3 dozen warriors but that is
old information."<br>
<br>
Caladan: "Where is the closest Ga'fel
village you spoke of<br>
in the area?"<br>
<br>
Lodd: "If we keep on this direction
we could get as close<br>
as 2 miles from it within
another 2 hours."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Well let's go
then."<br>
<br>
[Almost to the hour after 2 hours the
party slows down as<br>
Lodd tells the village should be to
the north east of<br>
their trail.]<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Its very close to the way he
came. The village<br>
could have seen something or
been in danger."<br>
<br>
Vlad: "I can go and check it
out."<br>
<br>
Cetric: "Yes. Report back if
there is a problem. <br>
<br>
[As the sun gets lower to the ground and
the sunset begins<br>

Caladan: "We should eat dinner and
feed the horses."<br>
<br>
[Z'leyra looks toward the south east and
finds the Thief<br>
hasn't moved much maybe 12 or so
miles. At this rate<br>
he is about 52 miles away. Ben'dar
is exhausted not<br>
having slept and Tef'wo is a bit
drained as well. As<br>
Z'leyra stands after eating to
continue her trek Corona<br>
flies down and swoops. Corona
had left with the warrior.<br>
The eagle lands and tells Z'leyra
that there is trouble<br>
at the pointy buildings (the
tipis?). The warrior has<br>
found bodies. There is smoke
and debris all over the<br>
place. Last the eagle saw was
the warrior Vlad was<br>
tending to a man who seems still
alive but barely.]<br>
<br>
Time: Roughly 6:15pm] [Day 49 of
Trip]<br>
<br>
Next update Monday....<br>
<br>
Actions? Comments?<br>
<br>
Z'leyra do you inform the others? Actions
and comments?<br>
Does anyone head to the village or continue the
trek in<br>
the darkness. Z'leyra is the only one
compelled to head<br>
out. The thief is still about 52 miles
away. That could<br>
be another 2 days of tracking. If the
Thief is not moving<br>
the party gains the gap each day. At the
very least 3 days<br>
and the gap will be closed at the very
least. This will<br>
give some time for spell casters to regain much
needed<br>
mana. Let me know of actions.
Remember those who travel<br>
at night with Z'leyra will suffer from lack of
sleep and<br>
exhaustion. So that last day of travel if
your still<br>
suffering from sleep there will be modifiers for
combat. :<<br>
<br>
I will update the map in a day or two.
Till then....<br>
