Thanks I missed this post as well. So your gear is
good to go no need to buy anything else? Did you just
say that last line? :) Those large birds eh? See the post right
above this one? there is a N in it. Here not. Which
would you prefer? She
will have to tell him how to use the necklace so he can
learn Marentian and speak normally.

Across the room the dancer is confused by this necklace
thing the tall woman speaks about. But it finally dawns
on her and she nods.

The dancer seems tense. Comfortable with being watched for
her movements, having a crowd of strangers listen to her talk,
intent on her words, seems to make her quite nervous. "My name
is Zabyra. Not unlike your own name? A trick of the Fates?
My lands are in the south, the Rogizini Empire. Perhaps you
have never seen the dancers of the Rogizini before? People
often pay more to see something new, so I travel. My father,
he was murdered, when I was a small child. I cannot avenge
his death. But, maybe if I help you find your father's
murderers, then the gods will smile and my own father might
know some peace. Maybe it is a foolish wish. I have no
family here. No friends. Nothing makes me stay. So I travel.
If you wish my help?"

Zabyra smiles and bows. "I do not know how a pretty piece of
jewelry can help me learn to speak, but I will practice my
words. I have few items, and fewer coins, but I will gather
my things and say my farewells."

Z'leyra replies (in Rogizini). "You are welcome to join us.
Hopefully we can become friends. I have heard of Rogizini
dancers. I have learned a bit of northern style dance, not
professional but for fun. Sometimes I play drums. Perhaps
tomorrow you can use this necklace to help you learn
Marentian."

The dancer is amazed when the woman takes over the necklace
and just speaks in her own words. How did this one learn so
fast?

[Time: 1:20pm]

Z'leyra checks one more time the map Kaylle came with.
She studies the road and distance. Crud maps are just
starting to be a bit accurate these days. Places like
Ticasi are on the forefront of map making with good detail.
But thanks to sailors and travelers more and more good
details are added to maps even small nations do. She
calculates the trip as 1,100 miles. Maybe a bit more
give or take. Most of that but the last 100 miles or
so is by road. So that will speed things up unless the
rains slow down things with snow and mud. Ben'dar had
told her at one point the average speed of horses and
she makes some simple figures in her head. It could
be tricky. But it is possible. Little side trips to
save villages or such could be a problem. She just
hopes there is no disease or monster ravaging some
village they are nearby. Some like Arawn would be
obligated to help out - even herself which could lead
to delays.

The Shaman shares her findings with the group saying
no mules or donkeys. There is a possible option for
a wagon as well.

Kiet furrows his brow and replies, "If speed is really the
necessity, what utility will be a wagon? It's not like we are
hauling things there, and all we are retrieving is information."
Kiet grumbles a bit because he knows who the logical person is
to drive it, but Kiet has other plans in mind.

"I know that I will be riding a new horse I recently purchased
and use my other horse as a pack animal for my gear. Doesn't do
to overload them."

"Also, don't forget that horses on the move in the winter
burn more energy so they need more oats than grass...but you
have to work them into it slowly increasing the oats over the
hay and grass. Something I learned recently." Kiet gives a
wry smile.

Ben'dar nods as he munches on a buttered pastry that Kes
just made. He realizes if he stays here long he will be
a bit too large for horses like Chion or Raban.

Kaylle shrugs, "also don't forget the Thaliban rules still
apply. The tribes do NOT tolerate anyone leaving the road.
Even to relieve themselves. If you step a hair off the road
they are obligated and will attack. You are only safe when
you are on the road. Even camps have to be made on the road.
So horses will be hard to corral and feed in this area."

Kiet heard Kaylle talking to Fremea on the Ticasi laws on
weapons and turns to Z'leyra. "Z'leyra, that prohibition
against personal weapons...is that in the entirety of Ticasi
or just their city?"

Kiet just kind of makes a clicking sound, then says, "I can't
say that it matters much. I'm far less effective with the
'weapons' than I am without...if you know what I mean."

Z'leyra responds, "Ticasi isn't much larger than the city and
the farms around it. So yes, it applies to all of Ticasi.
However, we shall need those weapons to ward off bandits on
the way. There are weapon depositories where for a small fee
you can store weapons while in Ticasi. If you have a particularly
valuable weapon that you would not want to trust to a depository
I could probably Oblivion it and summon it back at need or when
we leave."

Z'leyra turns to Kiet again after hearing about the up and
downs of teleporting.

"Yes, that is possible. But I can't teleport that far and
I didn't know if anyone who could would be coming. If so,
and if they want to teleport all who are going we could
certainly save a lot of time that way." Replies Z'leyra.

"I can take care of it," Arawn replied. "And I'll see to
preparing a safe landing spot while everyone else prepares for
Ticasi."

"I suggest leaving the horses behind for now. We can always
purchase or rent some after arrival if we find it necessary."

Just before leaving to help Unali with her gear Arawn takes
one last look at the map. Looking up, an odd look in his eyes,
he waited for a pause in the conversation before speaking up.

"I'm game for whatever you decide but why aren't we simply
translocating there?"

Pointing to the map he drew a line with his finger from Ticasi
to Salaqara.

"We were in and around Salaqara just over a month ago and
Ticasi looks to be about 30 or so miles away. We could leave
the horses and walk to Ticasi or else rent or purchase horses
to ride there. All it we'd need to do is have a person clear a
landing point for the following teleportations, just to ensure
a safe arrival."

Caladan who has been quiet speaks up, "one thing I've learned
in the last few years is magic is not always the best way.
Magic brings a price. I've talked to Chion. He would not
me saying this but one reason he left is he was just being used
as a method from point a to point b. This was getting much
undue attention upon him. Rumors spread on this world and
elsewhere. When Kings and merchants hear about a person who
can go from one side of a continent to another side in a flash
brings them asking for favors. Send my messages to here. Take
this package there. The gods also pay attention. With his
power he be a great tool for one side or another in some major
divine war. The math is there. We have time by horses. If
we just teleport all day long I am lucky I'm not going. When
When I died...and came back I have learned that life is too
fast. One must enjoy the trees you pass the nature. If you
teleport here and there then you miss half of life around you."

Kiet hears this talk then adds, "I thought the idea was to
ride so that a connection back to the land might be made. A
worthy goal. I, myself, had hoped to experience some of these
other lands as they are strange to me. It was a way to learn
more."

"If I understand correctly, the amount of time necessary to
determine the information you seek is quite short. I'm not
certain that going there, without the experience, warrants the
trip for those of us not involved."

Kell nods, "plus the other four may not like teleport. Those
weird brothers or cousins whatever they are...they need to be
in Aratad. So that would mean they need a new caravan."

Red Shirt stops talking to his cousin and hears this. He
frowns when he hears magic may be used to leave. They'll
miss their time in Aratad. He leans in to his cousin and
quietly says, "we may have to find another caravan." He
frowns.

Z'leyra states, "It IS important to be there before the
area is magically altered so that I will be able to use
Akasha to see what actually did occur. I will teleport if
going by horse is not fast enough. But yes, unless the party
consensus is to teleport I would prefer to go overland, rather
than just flitting about by magic."

"My current skill with divination is only good for about ten
days. When about ten days travel from Ticasi I could cast a
divination to see if the time required to go overland would
get me there in time. It would be possible to teleport from
the road if necessary."

Kell shakes his head, "time is fickle. Fate is fickle. Using
magic to see that specific thing will be futile. I was
taught a lesson on this in Ba'ru. One can see a person about
to be wounded in a horse accident. Race to go stop it but
then when you save him and he rides off he hurts himself at
any rate. That divination helped a friend save him the first
time only to end up him being hurt worse than the spell told
about. Just because you see at THAT point the trip will work
or not work doesn't mean it will happen. A new ...how does
Kaylle call it...? Oh yes. Variable comes in and changes
everything. This is the fallacy of time travel as well."

"Another possibility" Continues Z'leyra "Is to sail up the
coast past Porta, Thaliba and Ced. A quicker journey, but not
without its own dangers. Porta is a famed pirate haven and
Thaliba is not exactly fond of foreigners, though Ced so far
as I know is relatively safe to travel through or by. Climese
warships might choose any of those waters to traverse and seek
prey in."

Trihs Der leans to his cousin again, "now they want to do
this by ship?"

Reddof Nonnac sighs, "does Aratad even have ports?"

Trish shrugs, "who knows maybe we need to find a new caravan
before night falls."

"I'm predisposed to sea travel so I'd opt for that. And if
it's faster than overland it should strike a balance between
exploration and the practicality of translocation," Arawn said,
voicing his opinion. "Plus Porta and Thaliba sound exciting!"

Kell stares at the Alfar and shakes his head. "Count me out
if by ship. I have...recent ...issues with a porta...hmmm...
acquaintance. I'd not like to be in the sea near that city.
I do want to help but he is rather ruthless. By land we'd
avoid him."

Unali chimes in. "We have sailed these waters before and they
should be safer now than then. Porta and the Climans seem like a
better option than the tribes anyway, so by ship is fine for
me."

Cholan places a round of mugs on the table and hears about
sailing. "Sailing in the Sea of Tears in winter is only
slightly better than summer. But there are still huge storms
out there. I would not want anyone hurt in these storms."
He winks at the dancer and moves on.

Fremea just shrugs at the ways of travel. She will be glad
to just go. The last ship seemed interesting, this might not
be as much. She just gets her stuff together and will be at
Z's in the morning.

[Time: 3:20pm]

Arawn and Unali head outside to the back. Maren is only
a short distance so Arawn casts a simple low translocation
spell. They both end up on the roof of Unali's manor. Both
easily use their skills to get down.

Unali spends the next few hours packing up her gear. Then
as night falls she does final manor business. Telling her
staff she may be gone for at least a month maybe 6 weeks or
more. She is glad she is paid up expenses wise till the end
of the year. When she returns she will have to pay a bit more.

Unali had asked Z'leyra to not let anyone behind her stable
so they can teleport there including guards. Arawn then takes
Unali and her horse to Z'leyra's manor.

Kell heads toward the Dancer. He speaks in Marentia. "You
are joining us? That is good news. It would be quite a nice
ride with new face. But it will be cold out there. I do hope
you have some winter clothing or such? If not be my guest and
I'll take you to some shops."

Kell scans for Z'leyra and speaks up recalling the warning
he gave her earlier. "So meet here or your place? Would
it be better at sunrise or couple hours before? We may have
to get gear sorted and ensure folks have warm clothing and
tents? Maybe even gear for the horses they may need for
the cold nights."

Actions? Comments?

Next Update....Friday??

GM: Ok. We have enough data to figure out horses. Based on what
Arawn has rode in past RH1 unless he changes it. Fremea has
seen the hunter ride a RH3. So we know what each will ride.
Based on this see the final chart.

Panthera is the only one to not officially say he is ready.
Well Julian as well but I'll consider him ready since no
need to bug him during his crisis. But now that we are
all done gear wise my next step is to go through and
check Encumbrance. Once that is done we can get the
trip started.

Keep in mind food I posted the list of cities and how long
between each. I'll do a chart below to how often this will
be so if you don't have food for you or your horse it
will be a factor. See chart at bottom. Based on chart
below the longest trip is 9 days so you will need 9 days
of food for you and horse. Granted villages will exist
along the way. But with winter supplies may be limited.

As mission head - aka leader by implied consent Z'leyra
will have to decide if a wagon is needed. Alex you can
wait till I figure out encumbrance or not or just decide.
Give me a week I hope and should have gear sorted out
for encumbrance. Course Z'leyra as leader you will need
to decide mode of transport horse, teleport, flapping
arms or sea. If by other means then encumbrance will
not be a factor. So next couple days will work on these
things assuming horse unless given other info.

Zabyra has no horse so Alex will loan Strider a WH2 for
her to ride.
