[Recap]

From Fremea: [Re: Loot]
Fremea knows that
it is important to take as much away from
these creatures as
she can. She scopes up as much as she can
load into her
bags, safely, of the jewelry, gems, and other
precious items.
Since, she and Arawn had already IDed the
magic stuff, the
rest of it did not interest her.

She is not worried
about which direction they take, she knows
she can easily get
across or around, this is what she was
training to do and
she can fly.
GM: Ack. Thanks.

From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
[Quote Scott: 'BTW
technically the whole bridge ....

Both have
witnessed the significant levels of shape-changing
and strength of
the shifters already, in battle. From there it
doesn't take much
to figure out form options for such powerful
shifters. If
you're referring to how Arawn (and the rest of the
party) knows that
Raki can turn into stone, Raki mentioned it
itself when
addressing Dorhak's effort to take point in Update
122.
GM: Ack. Geesh. Using
the words dictated to my dwarves
for
update against me. So I'll blame them for not
reminding me they posted that. Yeah. That's it.
Its
their fault. Good job you at least are paying
attention. :) It was a test. yeah that's it. A
test. :)

From Pyan: [Re: Actions]
Pyan looks over
the teasures but hearing Z'layha's pleads he
decides it best
not to loud himself down thou there is one
piece of
exceptionally shiny jewelry that is vary tempting
to him. but is
worthless in this world and back in his world
he already has
everything he needs.
GM: Ack. I probably didn't
make it clear in last update.
Z
swayed Z'layha with her words so taking the treasure
is
fine now for her. Its a shock. But fine. So if
you
want to take some let me know.

From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
Kiet hasn't heard
anything definitive about which way we were
going to try to
escape. One way seemed like suicide, the other
like a great way
to be killed.

To the group he
says "if we try to run past dozens or...
GM:
Ack.

From Arawn: [Re: Posts]
I had sent this
out a few days ago but didn't see it pop up. I
had figured that
the server might be down but as David/Kiet has
a post up I
thought I'd resend this.
GM: Ack. I got it. It
was on Archives I believe. At top of
each
list post is a link to the Archives. If a post ever
goes
out it will be there almost immediately. Sadly I
get
behind and don't upset my site too often so its not
updated in real time. :<

From Wout: [Re: Post]
I did see this
pass by, so it has been sent out by the list.
Didn't notice any
hickups lately, so ot sure why it didn't
reach you. If this
happens again le me know and I will dig
into it. Wout
GM: Ack. It happens.
I've noticed over the last 15 odd years
especially with pnp list (not mine) I'll be missing
posts. But see it on archives. But I always check
the
Archives before update to see if anything missing.

------------------------------------------------------------
[New Stuff]

[Febris 9th,
1635TH]
[Time: 5:01
pm]

Kiet
hears the news of a possible new escape route.

Kiet
hasn't heard anything definitive about which way we
were going to try
to escape. One way seemed like suicide,
the other like a
great way to be killed.

To the
group he says, "if we try to run past dozens or
hundreds of Zin's,
we don't just lose our lives, but our whole
world. I
think we have to avoid them at all costs."

Fuk
fist bumps Kiet's shoulder. "The other way seems best.
What could go
wrong? A bit of lava sun tan?" He smiles.

Raki
turns with Kell still in his hands and heads to
the end of the
line to become point now. "Let's go.
I've not been to
this place in a very ...long time.
I hope it hasn't
changed."

Dorhak
catches up to Raki to help take lead as the
last of the
treasure, as much as can be carried, is
scooped up and
taken in a few bags. Since not everyone
has bags aside
form Unali and Fremea it is a more
limited
capacity.

Raki
waves a newly formed 3rd hand to quiet and slow.
He reaches the
passage leading to the large chamber
with the other
shape shifters. While the passage is to
the left now he
peers side and side listening. But he
seems to stare at
the right wall a bit as if hearing
things no one else
can.

Raki
extends his eye on a long eye stem around
the corner
creeping a few of the party members. He
watches and then
waves the party down the passage.

As
Arawn walks past the point Raki was staring
he places a gloved
hand on the rock then removes
one glove to feel
it. He can hear a slight shudder
or
vibration. But Arawn can't tell the origin inside
the thick
wall. Arawn only has a second or two and
catches up with
the others.

Raki
reforms into normal human shape and moves
the party back
down the winding passage.

Reaching the passage to the right Raki stops and
listens. But
only a second passes and he rounds
the corner.
"This way." Raki leads the party
down a fully dark
passage. There is no lichen or
other sources of
light here. But Raki seems to
care less about
the darkness.

About
120 feet down the passage he stops. He
gently places
Kell's body on the ground. He stares
along the right
wall then approaches a thick
crack. Upon
closer inspection its a crack that
leads to a small
hole enough for a small pony to
fit through.
The crack in the wall is about 8 feet
from ground to
ceiling but initially its only about
3 feet wide.
After that it opens to about 5.5 feet.

Raki
turns to the others, "let me go check it
out first.
Give me a minute or two." With that
he forms into a
medium sized hound and crawls through
the hole into the
darkness.

Fuk
approaches Arawn and whispers knowing that
Raki may
hear. "Can we trust him?"

Arawn
is still processing the mental meld that
he and Raki had
shortly before coming here. While
Raki saw most of
Arawn's mind, the Alfar also saw
a bit of Raki's
essence. A very lonely and scorned
being. He
even saw the memory that seemed to have
been utmost in
Raki's mind that of the boy Raki. the
boy whose parents
were tortured and dissected by
other shifters so
long ago. As the being now known
as Raki watched
the family slaughtered the boy seemed
to take a shine to
the shifter. That is when Raki
seemed to have
felt the futility of the situation.
Then his allies
approached the 5 year old boy and
then ripped him to
pieces like a piece of hot bread
for dinner.
Raki seems to have lived that memory
for centuries over
and over.

Raki
approaches and reforms into a humanoid. "It
has changed.
It will be difficult but we should
have the
ability. Fremea, Mae with you flying you
should take rope
and may need to help others cross.
Unali and Kiet are
acrobatically skilled so should
have no
isuue. The others we shall see...best to
show you.
Let's go."

Raki
with help from others pulls Kell's body through
the small
hole. Raki forms four new legs to drag the
body behind
him. It is a bit abrasive but with the
small tunnel there
is little choice.

The
hole forms a tunnel about 3-5 feet side and 3-5
feet tall at
times. Enough only to crawl through. The
tunnel is at least
not craggy likely formed by lava
and smoothed out
long ago. The tunnel runs the about 30
feet and then
wides a bit left then another 30 feet
straight.
Finally light is seen about 20 feet from the
exit of this small
tunnel. A orange-red light of
obvious
lava.

Dorhak
crawls and finds himself at home in this place.
he studies the
rock as best he can and finds it to
be secure and
ancient. He hears some grunt and groan
as they drag gear
and bags of loot through the small
tunnel. But
to him this is just a nice cozy place.

Raki
exits the tunnel and drags the body out and
places it on the
ground. He helps others as the
group exits the
tunnel one by one. With minor head
bumps and aching
bones only.

The
tunnel exits into a chamber that is much wider
and taller.
One the side of the party it is about
35 feet wide and
10 feet tall. This chamber ends
forward about 35
feet to a cliff that glows. The
glow of obvious
lava.

Raki
looks around, "the lava is higher than I
first saw. That
will cause some heat and possible
other
issues. We should cross fast."

Raki
gets to the edge of the chamber and peers down.
Only 4.5-5 feet
down is the stream of lava that seems
to extend 40 feet
away winding to the right and forward
of the
party.

Across
the lava extends a ledge or a lance of stone
that goes about
23-25 away from the cliff edge. This
lance of stone is
only about 1.5-2.5 feet wide. But
it seem to drop
down maybe 3 feet giving it a good
base
foundation.

Raki
looks to the group, "the stone was a lot longer
when I first saw
this place. It must've fallen off a bit.
I can extend over
it maybe an additional feet or so past
its
edge."

The
party makes a quick calculation. The distance
is around 40 feet
with lance of stone about 23-25
with Raki over it
maybe 31-33 feet? That leaves
maybe 5-8
feet.

Fuk
asks, "can't go a bit longer there?"

Raki
shakes his head, "my mass is not large enough.
My bridge will be
not wide enough and I'll need some
mass to extend to
the ceiling to latch on to. I'm
sure a leap that
far should be doable. Fremea and
Mae can use rope
to anchor each person."

Raki
then forms a creature that looks like a griffin
and grabs Kell's
body. He flies across to the
other side and
deposits Kell body on the other side
then flies
back.

Fremea
and Mae fly over and drop bags of loot and
any equipment like
shields and weapons that might
be a problem
crossing. This takes about 6 trips each.

"I don't know about this..." Fuk shakes his
head.

Raki
turns to the others, "I heard the others asking
where Zin was in
that large chamber. It is a matter of
minutes before an
alarm could go out. There is no time.
The window
would've been faster but this is the safest..."
He turns and
lowers his voice. "...I hope."

Raki
steps to the edge and reforms into a thin piece
of stone like
flesh. He begins to unroll outward over
the lance of
stone. It almost looks like a boat's
plank that is
maybe 2-3 feet wide. Every 4-5 feet
though Raki forms
two claw hands that extend to the
ceiling and lance
deep into the stone to hope it
holds his own new
displaced weight.

Dorhak
shrugs knowing this is nothing major, he's done
far more dangerous
things in dwarf strongholds with
ease. He
steps forward and waves for Fremea and Mae.
They tie rope
around his waist and under his arms.
With Fremea on the
left and Mae on right he steps
onto the
Raki-plank-stone.

The
dwarf extends his hands for balance and steps
forward. The
Raki-plank begin to sway and a creak
is heard below as
the lance of stone takes a bit
of displaced
weight.

Dorhak
realizes these things just need to be done
fast. Slow
people cause things to happen fast and
fall apart.
So he moves forward walking the 20 odd
feet toward the
edge of the Raki-bridge.

As he
moves both fliers look down at the lava only
some 5-6 feet
away. While Mae seems oddly at place in
the heat, Fremea
seems a bit uncomfortable. Dorhak
actually watches
the natural stone cavern around him
in wonder trying
to figure out what stone is around
him. This is
actually a nice place for a dwarf.

But
soon Dorhak reaches the edge and realizes the
gap is just under
7 feet (maybe 6 and 3 quarters?).
Dwarves can jump
ravines this wide as youths. He
adjusts his armor
and backs away a couple feet. Only
7 feet it should
be easy right? He glances to the
fliers and
realizes they'll be here to help. He
nods to each as he
runs forward, grinning and leaps.

Dorhak
lands on the other side with 2 feet to
spare and rolls a
couple feet laughing. That
was rather
fun. Mae and Fremea are lurched a bit
forward by the
leap but fly to the cliff to get
the ropes.
Untying the ropes they fly back for
the next person to
cross.

The
next to step forward is Kiet. For a acrobat
who can tumble it
should be a easy jump. With
ropes tied for
safety he moves forward. Kiet warns
the fliers he is
about to run-leap. He dos so
and using his
acrobatic skills he lands on the other
side easily with 3
feet to spare skidding onto the
dusty
ground.

Unali
is next up and moves forward. She warns the
fliers and at 5
feet takes the running leap. Oddly
enough her overall
ability is less than Kiet's but
she lands on the
other side with 3.5 feet to spare
without even
bending her knees.

Arawn
decides to go next. He knows if he dies here
all will
die. He takes the running leap at 4 feet
and prays as he
leaps. Knowing that no god will hear
him in this
world. He lands onto the other side but
with only 1.5 feet
to spare. But he begins to do
a back
tumble. Fremea slams into his back and pushes
him forward onto
the stone. The Alfar falls to his
knees and crawls
away from the edge.

Mournath is next and is confused by all this fire as
his element is
water. He runs and leaps knowing that
at best he might
only do 8-9 feet. But in this heat
he is bound to do
less. He lands with only half a foot
from the
edge. With not so a graceful fall he falls
to his knees as
Mae pushes him forward to the ground
to safety.
Just as the sailor leaps though a tremor hits
the cavern and
shakes the area. A minor earthquake. Those
who have no
crossed see the Raki-Bridge wave back and forth
as he is trying to
regain his balance. From the ceiling
stone falls from
his claw anchors.

The
tremor ends but Arawn can feel something more
intense.
Maybe what he felt outside was this lava
pit
shifting? Could this entire place go up?

Pyan
is urged by Z'leyra to cross. There is no
point stopping
now.

Pyan
is next and takes the leap. But his legs seem
to give way and he
goes a bit lower than he should. He
slams into the
cliff right at his stomach level. With
his feet now only
about 2 feet from the lava, the fliers
pull and yank the
ropes. From above Arawn and Unali
also help pull the
hunter up and over the cliff side.
The fliers take a
few seconds to recover and go back
to the other
side.

Z'layha is next and she doesn't walk she just does a light
jog and
leaps. She makes it with ease for 2.5 fet to spare.

Fuk is
the most hesitant as he steps onto the Raki-bridge.
It seems forever
before he moves forward with Fremea
urging him
on. Sweat is now pouring down the Fae's cheeks
but it seems the
almost nude ex-slave seems fine.

Halfway across another minor tremor. but this time
the lava below
churns as it shifts like a bowl of water
on a table on a
ship. A section of lava seems to lap
upwards as it jets
high and hits about a third the way
up of the
Raki-Bridge. A groan is heard as the bridge
begins to rock
from the pain taken.

Confused Fuk runs and leaps but is short. The leap
takes him almost 2
feet from the cliff. Fuk begin
to scream as he
falls toward the lava. But as another
spout of lava jets
upward toward Fremea the Fae releases
the rope and it
breaks as the lava eats the rope. She
flies backward and
flips a few times trying to reorient
herself.

But
while the under the arm ropes are now gone the
ropes on Fuk's
waist become taunt and Mae struggles
to hold on for
dear life. Mae screams as her strength
may at best hold
100 pounds but the 230 pound man is
straining.
Mae glances and sees the constable is only
about 2 feet from
the edge to safety. But he is now
dangling with arms
and legs down back to ceiling only
about 3 feet from
the lava and slipping.

The
others like Arawn and Unali try to reach for
the ropes but
Mae's swaying back and forth is too
hard to grab
on.

Update....Wednesday...

GM: This was not
planned. It was by the numbers. I used
Burton's (those who know the basic pnp mailing list group)
jumping variant. Using Jump Indexes based on a formula
he came up with. It ranged from 10 (Pyan) to 16 for
the acrobats. So it seems to be a fair system. I used
the index with some rolls to see success and if any
fallback/distance jumped (with space to spare). But
the Fuk/Mae thing was just rolls. It is ironic that the
man who disliked Mae is now literally being held
aloft by her.

Portage Ability is how much one can carry x5 of that
is your lifting ability. So Mae is doing almost
twice her limit and straining. Can she make it?
Talk about a cliffhanger!

To recap Z'leyra is on other side some 30 odd feet
away. Everyone else is on the other cliff those
who try to reach out over with arms is maybe 2 feet
from the ropes. Mae is maybe 4-5 feet from the cliff
and struggling to just hold Fuk. It could also bring
her down to the lava as well.

With the Event Rolls for this scene the lava jets
did hit 3 areas including Raki and Fremea/rope. That
was just a bad dice roll. (bad for you good for
the bad guys).

Fremea can recover but may take a few seconds.
What now? :)

Sadly this is draft 2. I had a software crash on
this old pc. I had to reboot and it lost about 45
min of typing. It was a bit more detailed. So
I hope I made a good enough word image in this second
draft.
