It is
puzzling for he can see nothing that could have caused this,
and he backs slowly away a short distance and scans the ship
and sky, but sees or smells nothing unusual - just the sailors.
An armed guard runs to the stairwell & calls for help, and
he backs away from the group, wishing he had his weapons
with him. He was beginning to feel very uneasy.

He didn't really like these "foreign" guards, or mercenaries
whatever they were - and he had been unable to strike up any
conversation with them since he had been hired. This was
altogether too strange a ship. First, they were eager to hire
him, for his mining skills & especially for his experience in
working with dwarves. He greatly respected the dwarf miners he
had known. Their magical skill in weaponcraft was legendary and
he had felt very honored when they announced him as "Dwarf
Friend." He had looked forward to working with such craftsmen
again, but as the days went by, things didn't seem quite right.
First of all, he had been warned away from entering the third &
lowest deck. The captain had even wanted to refuse him the
freedom of being on the upper deck, out in the open, but he
flatly stated that he would not be confined below decks &
they could just fire him if they insisted. Most of this
conversation was in mixed Fomorian-Cerulean which the Captain
knew, but most of the crew either didn't know these trading
tongues, or they chose to pretend not to understand. He had
found himself left pretty much to himself, although there were
always some of the crew that seemed to keep him under an
informal guard. He did not try to go the lowest deck & spent
less and less time in his cabin on the 2nd deck, because the
smell coming from below was starting to penetrate the very walls
of the ship. If it weren't illegal, he's think they were
carrying slaves, but maybe they had just put a weird spell on
the wine, a valuable cargo according to the captain -
and worth protecting.

The fallen crew were starting to arouse now, and he moved
forward to help a couple of them to their feet, when suddenly
they were in a rain of arrows appearing from nowhere. The man
took a quick look around and dove between two large crates
nearby, wishing he had his shield and mace. He had been
discouraged from carrying them & no one had disturbed his sea
chest (provided by the ship for its few passengers), so he was
unarmed & scared - and angry. He thought to himself "What in
the name of the gods is happening? This is a civilized nation
I'm supposed to be parked in!" He tried to spot the archer or
archers but saw the very strange sight of a heavy rope rising
to be wrapped around a spar. When he saw the Faerry suddenly
appear above the ship, he was stunned. "A Faerry here? What in
the three worlds is she doing? I thought they were friendly,
if tricksters. Why is she on the warpath?" He ducked down out
of sight as one of the sailors shoved his way into apple-man's
hiding place.

The next few minutes were a mix of shouting, screams and
curses and a mad scramble that the man could only hear, as he
kept his head down. Whatever had he gotten into? He didn't
understand.

----------------

[Time: 10:26:25 am] - Sivas City Docks District

Fremea glances at the man now standing alone on the deck.
She steps forwards and says, "Boo!" But sees nothing. She glances
to the back of the ship and sees bodies. The only good hiding
spot left are the storage lockers. She pulls her dagger and
the man steps back. She stalks the lockers to ensure no one else
is alive hiding. She circles it once and then checks inside as
she watches the lone man. But she finds no one hiding.

Fremea notices to the east the sailors swimming away. The half
dozen or so of them are almost across the water to the next ship
berth about 80 feet away. Sailors on that ship - it looks like
a courier or light merchant ship - are helping the sailors aboard
their ship. She frowns that taking them out would be a bit of
a problem. But it won't be long before someone gets help in terms
of city guards over here. She twirls around to face the lone
man and grins as he raises his hands.

Fremea stares at the apple-man.

Then it got quiet. His self-invited companion grabbed his
shoulders & he looked up to see the Faerry watching them, her
bow drawn. "There should be a better reason than this - this
mess - to be dying." He started to slowly stand, when the
terrified sailor behind him suddenly shoved him out from behind
the boxes into the open. The Faerry fired upon the sailor & he
fell. Then she turned to face the man - and smiled. He shuddered,
in spite of his effort to stand straight and steady. Not
knowing what else to do, he slowly spread out his arms to show
he carried no weapon, and said, first in Fomorian, then Cerulean,
"% %^#^^####, #%#$#### # %#$## #$@# #$$." Flashes of memory,
his home, his foster parents, and Gallinda, passed through his
mind & he began to get angry. He didn't want to die for no good
reason. He gathered himself to try to be civilized and bowed
his head slightly toward the Faerry (my, she was really pretty,
but that frown was frightening) He spoke again. "%% ###
%#$%#$$$$$ #$? $#$$ ## %%# #$$$?"

Fremea does not understand a word the man is saying. But his
body gesture and body language seem to indicate surrender or
submission. Fremea waves her dagger in a way to say 'if you cross
me you die' gesture.

At the same time in the hold.

Mournath stares at the angry dwarf mob.

Life has certainly been strange lately. Shipwrecked months
ago he ran into these generous persons who shared their food,
fire, and companionship with me. Separated from then, I know
not how, I've been making my way the best a sailor knows how.
It seems my choice of boats and captains was a poor one.
Slavers! No end of troubles there. Blockade-runners and
smuggling are time-honored ways for a craft seaman to make a
living, but slavery? Bah, best to pick up my spear now and
help in what small way I can.

"I'm not WITH these dog slavers" whispers Mournath "...at
least not intentionally. I signed on as an able-bodied
seaman, nothing more or less. It seemed strange to me how
little of the ship I was allowed to walk, and when I had the
chance I went exploring. I find the lot of you here --and
slaves-- of which I knew nothing about. Give me half a moment
to collect my spear and belongings and I'll do what I can to
help you and this miserable lot to escape!"

Unali cringes at the term 'dog slavers'. Did he just call the
dwarves dogs? Oh dear. The dwarves seem to not understand but
the tone of his voice seems to urge them forward.

The blind girl speaks. "Please, don't hurt him. He's on our
side... I think..." the blind female tries to plead with the
now angry dwarves. She has to hold on to the wolf now to not
fall over because she is still pretty weak from being given
barely any food or water while she was prisoner, and attacking
those sailors had understandably been not the best of ideas,
but she was just so angry at her captors in that moment. She
heard the man at the stairs too late. The only weapon that
had been returned to her was her cane, so she didn't have
anything to throw at him, and she knew no offensive spells,
not that it mattered anyway, as her focus wasn't on her either.

As she speaks she loosens her leather pants rope and it falls
to the ground then jerks off her leather top. The dwarves stare
at the almost naked girl as well as the man behind Unali.

Unali senses the well designed distraction as the tension
in the man's arm lessens a bit. She knows the man could simply
jag forward a half inch and she's dead. But he is on her strong
right side. She takes a deep breath and reacts as a coiled
acrobatic snake. She raises her right arm toward the arm of the
man using it as a brace and shield. She lifts with all her might
even with less atrength from a awkward position and moves the
arm away a couple inches. At the same time she twirls 45 degrees
and raises her left dagger to use leverage to further uplift the
man's own dagger.

Unali finds the strength of her and the man oddly equal and
there is a sudden impasse. Before the man can use his own leverage
by shifting his body, Unali does a sweep with her right leg
and forces the man to stumble backwards. Now free of immediate
danger the man tries to regain his balance.

That's when the wolf leaps toward the man. The man yelps
in alarm and turns toward Unali who raises a dagger and tries
to bash the man's head. The first dagger hits the man's head
and he steps back but isn't knocked out. The man swipes his
own dagger at Unali cutting across her chest doing 3 points of
damage before she can deflect it.

Mournath notices the blind girl seem to shift and elongate.
Bones twist and harden. She grits her teeth as the human
girl suddenly changes into a panther. At least that is what
it looks like to Mournath.

The man looks back just in time to see the wolf leap onto his
back knocking him to the ground. Unali moves forward and taps
his left temple and he falls unconscious.

Then Unali is startled by a large animal leaping over the map
and around the wolf. The long sleek animal that looks like
a large cat of some kind heads the stairs running.

Unali does a double take and then notices the blind girl is
missing.

On deck Fremea waves to apple-man to back away further to the
back of the ship. That
is 80 feet form main ship.

Unali, Mounath, Fremea - Hold 3rd deck in ship.
Dwarves, guards - Hold
Top deck - Apple Man, Wolf, Jaguar, downed sailors/guards

Arawn - Tiny dock adjacent to ship near gangplank to
ship.

Dorhak, Kiet, Pyan, Z'leyra, Damon - 500-4500 feet
from ship west of ship.

Damon's officer is some 200 feet east of second
merchant/rescue ship. 300 feet or so from main
ship. 750-800 feet from other party members on the
boardwalk to west.

Hope this helps.

Next update may be a small normal update or a large
2 post update depending on something behind scenes.

Boardwalk is full of folks at any one minute 30-50 in
a given area. So far most are ignoring events on ship.

_______________________________________________
pnpgm mailing list
pnpgm@list.powersandperils.org
http://www.powersandperils.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pnpgm
