Game Update #30 in sequence (file #120]
----------------------------------------------------------------
Admin notes: Delays. Had this update typed up sunday night but
had got distracted so couldn't post it then other things monday.
Sorry. But we move on....
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[Recap]
From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions]
Ben'Dar listens to Caladan describe the Asrai, though he is
somewhat distracted by the activity around Farseeker and the
possible threat from the river. He is still unsure that the
Asrai mean no harm, seeing as how they tried to kill Farseeker.
While others are reviving Farseeker, Ben'Dar sits on Tef'wo,
gripping his spear tightly as he watches the dark water
suspiciously.
He helps Farseeker sit on Tef'wo and leads the warhorse back
to camp. "What happened back there, Farseeker? How did you
get into the water and what were those things? Did you get a
close look at them? .. They looked so frail how did they hold
you under the water? I'm very surprised that they let go and
disappeared when they did. It was lucky that they did."
Once back in camp, Ben'Dar asks Caladan, "Asrai? Tell me of
these creatures, Caladan. I have never heard of them before this
day." He will spend some time afterward drying off Tef'wo,
grooming him, giving him food treats, etc. As he does so,
Ben'Dar reflects that his mistrust of the water has now been
increased to active dislike of it by this encounter with the
mysterious water-breathing elves. If he was unsure about water
travel before he is sure now that he doesn't like it.
GM: Ack.
Farseeker: "I was letting the horse drink and it got nervous.
I tried to calm it and got jumped. They were very quiet.
Thig says there are six so likely they all held me down.
As to letting go I'm not sure they actually did. May have
just been lucky. It was all kinda foggy."
Caladan: "I know as much as you do. I've only heard stories
from the elders. I've heard some travel teh river. They
believe some live in deep caves but who knows."
Thig: "They likely attacked Farseeker since he was close to
their lair and had to deal with it. They are hard to kill
adn I believe only taking them out of the water can kill
them entirely. Their touch is acidic and is very damaing."
-------------------------
From Strie'bog: [Re: Actions]
With a softer voice, Strie'bog welcomes back those who went to
rescue Farseeker, and is curious to hear the story. If allowed,
he will eagerly observe or assist any healing done on behalf of
Farseeker.
Beyond that, he will continue with his present studies and magics,
as well as playing for the group when they rest. The only new
thing would be working on a song about the defeat of the serpent
women and one about the warriors so recently defeated. Not great
yet, but can be incorporated later in to a longer tale.
GM: When you sing th esong save it to mp3 so I can put it on the
website. I'll give extra points for a real mp3 :)
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra will ask if she may observe the casting of the
Regeneration spell. It being one of the few important healing
spells that she doesn't have.
GM: Ack. Its actually just a variant of healing so nothing too
fancy in special effects.
--------------------
From Jordi: [Re: Actions]
Jordi is impressed by the elven maidens; and he remains silent
for the rest of the night, except for this:
"If you don't mind, Thig, I will cast the Regeneration spell on
Farseeker. I need... a lot of practice, I'm still a very bad
magician, and I need to improve my skills. And, of course,
Z'leyra, you can watch as much as you want."
Jordi spends a lot of time this night looking to the river...
however, at the morning, he seems to be okey.
GM: Opps. I had already done the text below when I got this
tonight. Ryan aka Farseeker had asked me to have Thig do it
since they've been playing together (character wise) for
years. But next time, I'll let you do it if, sorry :<
As to the Asrai your right. The event kinda shook you. To
see your own "kind" in that feral type nature. Elves of
obvious female gender in a river just is very unusual to
see especially for you. Maybe this is something to write
Neva home about and discuss later in great length....
--------------------
From Strie'bog to Jordi:
Strie'bog asks, "Jordi, would you mind if I watched you perform
this spell?"
GM: Ack. Will assume to Thig.
From Chion: [Re: Actions]
Chion will of course wonder aloud why we didn't hunt down and
slay the creatures which nearly killed a friend such as Farseeker.
Perhaps someone will explain that "Sidh good, Kototh bad." Up to
this point he really has only met one Elder before (well, besides
the elves and faerries in the party), so a quick "mythos" update
for him might help pass his turn on guard duty...
GM: You figure the Asrai wanted to get their point across to get
out of their area and leave them alone. Based on that they
did what they wanted. Nothing was stopping anyone from
takin them on though if you personally wanted to go into
after them you could :) But once two spoke in friendly
terms to them they decided they wanted nothing with the party.

[No Actual CEP earned as no one actually attacked the Asrai.
The Asrai got in a blow on Farseeker but otherwise missed
in the frenzy.]
Sepes 37, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 198 Miles
North of Asichi City - [Around 5:30am -
[That night Farseeker rests. Hes completely healed but still
has a hit point in damage that can't be healed without
a regeneration spell. Thig will do that in the morning.
He could use the practice. No other encounter or problems
that morning occur. Thig occasionally flies over the river
to learn more of the Asrai but they elude his vision.]
[The party only gets another hour of sleep so some don't even
sleep. They just stay up and play a dice game or card game.
that Kasha and Balrog has.]
GM: Opps. I think I got a numbering error. Encounter should
have occured on day 37 not 36.
Sepes 38, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 208 Miles
North of Asichi City
[Camp is broken. Instead of visiting the river for water
and a quick cleaning its decided to go up river in case
the party is near the Asrai's lair. Caladan says elders
believe they live in some underground cave system that
connects to a spring or hole in the river but its only
a theory. The day gets a bit warm upwards to mid 70s.
Its partly cloudy for most of the day. Around 8:19am
a light rain drops on the party which lasts about 3 minutes.
Just enough to drench everything and make a bit miserable
for a hour until it evaporates and becoems dry.
After the rain the party stops and gets water out of
various items. During this time Thig and Farseeker set
to perform the Regeneration spell. Thig lays hands on
Farseeker's acid burn scar from the Asrai touch. Within
a few seconds of casting the spell the scar disappears
and he is now completely healed.
The party heads northward through the desolate plains.
Around 3pm dust is seen in the distance. A large group
of riders is approaching the party. Caladan tells the
party he is in Ga'fel'ora land so it should be allies.
The party takes no chances and prepares just in case.
As the riders approach it looks to be 9-10 riders.
As they get closer a count is made and its another group
of 11 riders.
Kasha: "What is it with the number eleven?"
Caladan rides ahead to meet the riders. This time the
riders close in about 10 feet of Caladan. This makes
the party wary but they soon discover the riders smile
and laugh. Tension ends. But then the riders come
toward the party with Caladan. The riders then split
up and surround the party. They eye the party over.]
[The conversation is in Zen'dali]
[The riders eye the party over as tension grows and ebbs.
Caladan breaks the silence..]
Caladan: "This one here is Jorg'in leader of this group.
He is a honored Warrior of the Eagle Society. They are
brothers of a nearby nomadic clan. They aren't my
immediate family but that one over there is a cousin.
They tell me they were after a Ser'manda raiding party
disguised as outcasts that hit their camp. They lost
two warriors in the raid."
[He introduces the party members..]
"Balrog skilled rider and warrior among other qualities.
Ben'dar fellow brother from the central tribes and a
a skilled horseman. Chion ...skilled warrior.
Jordi [upon seeing the Elf the riders whisper among
themselves] ...skilled leader, communicator, archer
and warrior. Kasha, skilled rider and use of the mace.
Thig [again whispers] ...he is known as a Faerry. Do
not fear him...[he realizes too late that was the wrong
words to say...] he is ...non-harmful...
Strie'bog, a skilled singer and woodsman. Trembyl,
skilled warrior. Unali, a honored fighter with the
daggers. Xian...a healer. Lastly, this is Z'leyra
a Shaman of her people and a skilled healer."
Jorg'in: "You travel with females...and ...them Sundancer?"
Caladan: "I speak for them all. They are my guests to visit
my people. Speaking of which have you heard of any
problems in the local tribes or my family?"
Jorg'in: "No. But we have recently moved back in the area
from the north due to the change in weather. We have only
been in camp for a week. We've not had time to visit your
clan or others."
[Rider points at Thig]
Rider: "Is it a pet you captured?"
[Thig humpfs and ponders a spell but thinks otherwise.]
Caladan: "He..is no pet. He is with me and a friend.
If you insult one of my friends you'll have to deal with
me is that understood?"
Rider: "You d--" [Jorg'in interrupts him]
Jorg'in: "He is young and rash not even ventured on the First
Rite of the society. We mean no insult its unusual to see
such things here. [A quick silence then he changes the
subject] You fought these Ser'manda riders? I recognize
one of those horses as belonging to them."
Caladan: "Yes. We killed eight of them. It will be some time
before they venture in these parts. So theres no trouble
or problems in the local area?"
Jorg'in: "I said no. The raid hit us hard we did lost two
of our horses. We should be returning to form up a hunting
party for food as well."
Caladan: "May we help? Do you need food? If my friends
agree I can give you two of the Ser'manda horses to replace
the ones you lost." [He looks to the party for arguments]
Jorg'in: "That would be very kind of you. As to food we will
sustain ourseles. We always have. But ..the horses would
be a good gift. [He lowers his head in sadness then raises
back up after a shoulder slump] "But I can't offer anything
in trade but my clan's hospitality and friendship. I can
even offer my society [just then the Eagle squaks overhead
and Jorg'in looks up in surprise and smiles]"
Caladan: "That is Z'leyra's eagle companion."
Jorg'in: "A good sign! Yes. i was saying I can offer my
society as a favor if you ever need us. Call on us. Our
camp will be in place for the winter."
Caladan: "Yes. That is a fine exchange."
[A few more minutes of chit-chat that includes stories of
battle and adventure. Then Jorg'in decides he should
return to camp to the east to help the elders.]
GM: Assuming no one has a problem Caladan offers two of
the horses for Jorg'in to take back with him.
[The party separates and heads back north.]
Xian: "Why didn't you say some of us were magic users?"
Caladan: "Shamans are the source of magic on the plains.
Any other source of magic may confuse and frighten them.
Some tolerate it while many do not. Might over magic is
the game here on the plains. Strength over mystical words.
I did recognize Z'leyra as a Shaman since they would know
it and could identify with it. As to other skills and
such I had to be careful. They basically want to know who
is a skilled rider and warrior. But in the next few days
I should work on better introductions fo rmy people" [he smiles]
Kasha: "He called you Sundancer?"
Caladan: "Yes. My ...reputation has gone on the plains
at least for the Ga'fel'ora. But it should be obvious
by the name. My nice friend here (the firesnake) and
my magic of fire has given rise to the name. Any Zen'da
in this area is sure to recognize me based on my friend
here (the firesnake)."
Trembyl: "They seemed to sneer a bit at the females?"
Caladan: "Yes. Females tend to have lower station here."
Thig: "And me?"
Caladan: "That's obvious. No in the Eastern Tribes has
seen a Elf or a Faerry. You could disguise yourself
but eventually it will be obvious to closer inspections.
If we were in the Western Plains then there might be
more of the Sidh in the area warriors would know about
it. Here, its likely that only one or two people actually
know of such races."
Sepes 39, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 216 Miles
North of Asichi City
[Most of the day stays sunny but cooler never getting in the
70s that day. when the travel is almost done for the day
adn camp is being decided on soon a storm is seen approaching.
It seems to be a fast storm even with the sun out and very
few clouds. Around 5:15pm or so it hits the party. It
drenches everyone that doesn't get to tents right away
including the horses. Lightning is strong a few hundred
flashes but few land strikes as the clouds are high aloft.
About 1.6 inches of rain falls in the 8 minute storm. The
plains become a bit of mud and puddle mess as the horses
continue on further north.]
[No encounters this day or hardly any animals but the occasional
small burrowing creature or snake.]
Sepes 40, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 234 Miles
North of Asichi City
[Most of the day is again sunny and clear. However around
11:32am a few high clouds form and a light drizzle forms
and falls on the party for about 2 minutes. Its not enough
to worry or soak but its cool. The weather otherwise is
nice in the lower 70s.]
[Almost an hour later around 12:28pm Ben'dar comes riding
back to the party from his forward scouting. He says he
found some more people in the north-west along the river.
As the party travels further north it takes only a few
minutes to spot them. All seem to be riders. About a
mile away its clear either side could see each other so
not much use avoiding them. Caladan asks for Unali's spy
glass and uses it to view the riders. As he does he notice
3 females and 6 male riders. At least 2 riders are well
ages maybe in their late 30s. He notices also there are
animal pelts, skins and other by-products hung on the horses.
There also seems to be a small boar on a mini-sled behind
one horse. Caladan lowers the spyglass and states to the
party.]
Caladan: "A hunting party. Likley food collectiing for a
nearby clan. Unusual to see a few females but sometimes
they tag along to help skin the animals. I could see
they spotted us but clearly wish to avoid us based on
their actions trying to move away. We best let them be.
I might know them but if they are hungry enough they
could fight if they fear we might take the food."
[The party watches the other hunting party gather up and
quickly leave the area. They cut across the path of
the party going north-east as the party continues almost
due north. The hunting party deliberately tries to
steer clear of the party.]
Xian: "If they are your people would you want to get in
touch with them to talk to them?"
Caladan: "No. They may be Ga'fel'ora but not my immediate
clan since they are too far west of our normal stomping
grounds. We visit the river but not that often. These
must have a home within a day's ride of the river. So
distant relatives I'm sure but best to let them be."
------------------
Sepes 41, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 252 Miles
North of Asichi City
[Today is about the same temperature wise in lower 70s.
But clouds roll in most of the day making it a partly
cloudy day. Near 11am or so a quick 45 second drizzle of
rain mist drops but is gone before it started.]
[No encounters]
[After camp is broken down Caladan approaches Ben'dar]
Caladan: "At this point we travel east toward my clan.
We are near the landmarks I know. ITs another 90 miles
or so to my village. I know you joined me but we are
the closest point to your people. If you wish you can
cross the river and head toward your family as well. I
will not stop you and respect your decision."
GM: Either way the party moves on. Ben'dar let me know.
Sepes 42, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 270 Miles
North of Asichi City
[The weather turns worse as it only gets as high as 65
and remains partly cloudy all day. As camp is almost
cleaned up and left after breakfast a deep fogs fall
all around. This is about an hour after sunrise. It
becomes so thick as if a cloud has just fallen to the
ground that only about 5 feet can be seen in front
of you with any clarity. The party decides to wait it
out as travel could be hard and slow with it. The fog
blanket that likley formed on the river takes about 25
minutes to finally move on with the winds.]
[No encounters..]
-------------
Sepes 42, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: River Sch (E) Riverbank, Zen'da Plains, 270 Miles
North of Asichi City, Heading East
[The party can tell winter is fast approaching on the plains
as the day gets bad. Temperature doesn't get hotter than
about 62 mostly in the high 50s. Warm clothing is worn during
the ride. The day is all overcast with little sun seen.
Around 9:18am a rain storm falls without little warning on
the party. A quick tent camp is made in haste but everyone
gets drenches in the cold rain that lasts almost 20 minutes
in the heavy storm (but no lightning just rain).]
[A few hours later near 1pm (12:51pm) a group of animals is
seen in the distance. Overcast makes it hard to see
further distances without distortion. But the creatures
are about a mile away.
[Unali looks through her spy glass at the animals and sighs.
She hands the scope to Caladan. Caladan sighs as well.]
Caladan: "Hippogriffs."
Xian: "Not again."
[Strie'bog looks confused and wonders what that means]
Balrog: "We fought some on Cl-" [Farseeker coughs and
looks at Balrog and shakes his head. Best not to let
Strie'bog know some details for security.]
Balrog: "..I mean ...awhile back a few months ago. Z'leyra
even captured one as a pet."
Caladan:[Turns to Z'leyra] "Best not to do it this time.
They don't like horses. They are pretty much the main
enemy of horses on the plains. Being as the plainsman
respect horses if you walked into a village with such
a pet they'd be highly disrespected. Would be like
wlaking in a home with a creature that eats cats while
the home owner has a cat. Not good. We better try
to avoi-"
Farseeker: "Too late!"
[As the party watches several of the distant creatures
take to the air...they turn around for a few seconds
then start flying toward the party. ]
Kasha: "Group the horses that don't have riders. Hurry!
Untie them so riders cna go on their own without tag-along
horses. We should keep a guard or two just on the
unmanned horses."
Farseeker: "Yes. Everyone prepare."
Trembyl: "How much time?"
Caladan [using spyglass] "20-25 seconds!"
Farseeker: "How many?"
Caladan: "Seven...no...Ten!"
[Half a mile moving at their flying speed equals 7.3 phases
roughly. Prepare your actions.]
