Game Update #60 in sequence (file #235]

Admin notes: Normally I'd wait for actions. But since the Mailing
list server seems down and the update did not go out friday,
though I sent it out on friday, I'll continue. Besides not that
critical of a update last time. So this will move the game one
step closer.

[New Stuff]
Octaqi 17, in the 163rd Year [TH]
[Meanwhile somewhere in the open plains - Location 7 miles
south-east of Caladan's village. Roughly 2.5 hour ride.
Time: Roughly 10:35am]
GM: Assuming Ben'dar joins Z'leyra.
[Z'leyra and Ben'dar head off with the eagle to track
the two men from the grave site. While the others head
to the village to visit the elder for more info. Z'leyra
is wished good luck. As the trail winds eastward the
winds begin to pickup which makes the temperature drop
slightly. The movement is slow but fast enough to ride
while watching the trail of the two horse tracks. At
roughly a half hour later the winds pick up and a dust
storm occurs that is small in nature. Only small plants
and tumbleweeds blow across the plains. But this seems
to disrupt the trail. At one point the trail is lost.
Z'leyra has to dismount and back track and examine the
impressions in the sand and grass. Ben'dar meanwhile is
agitated ready for action. It takes about 8 minutes before
the trail is picked back up.
The trail begins to move south-east and at times east.
Another half hour or so nearing 11am the trail ends at
a certain point. Z'leyra dismounts and finds the area
they are at may have been a camp. There is nothing here
to find but theres more than 2 horse tracks here. Z'leyra
determines there may have been as many as 8-10 horses here.
Looks like from the footsteps may have been the same amount
in men. The foot impressions are heavy indicating likely
men. Z'leyra notices some horse hairs which indicate the
horses likely stayed a bit more evidence of a camp.
The problem is the tracks separate at this point. It
looks like theres tracks that come to this area from the
south. Likely where they came from? But then tracks
that lead into this area from the north where Z'leyra
tracked. But then tracks, looks like 3 horses lead to
the east. Then theres about 6-8 horses that head to the
west. Z'leyra is unsure what heads to the west or east
as nothing can be seen in the distance but open plains.
GM: 2 Trails into this site. 2 Trails out. The two out
go to the East and West. West is where you basically
came from. North-West is Caladan's village. More
westerly is the grave site. Actions now?

[Meanwhile at Zaka's village - Location 6 miles south-east
of Caladan's village. Roughly 2.5 hour ride.
Time: Roughly 10:55am]
[As the small group nears the village its clear the Tipis
seem to be on fire. Zaka gallops toward the village
before anyone can stop him. Kasha, Thig and Unali ride
forward as well followed by the others. As the group
gets within half a mile screams are heard as many in
the village run from place to place. Women and children
mostly scramble in panic. Some males are seen. Then
in the smoke is seen riders going back and forth attacking
those village people. Its clear someone is attacking the
village. It looks like 3 of the Tipis are on fire. Many
of the people running about are kids and females. Looks
like several men are on the ground likely killed or
knocked out. There are maybe 7 riders in the village going
back and forth. They are targeting even female and kids.
Of the riders it seems only one notices the small group
entering the village. That rider is #3 who just attacked
and either killed/knocked out a male adult warrior who
was on foot. He stares at the party entering the village.]
[Zaka gives out a battle cry and pulls out a rusty club
he had on his horse as a weapon. The old man seems to
have gained strength and determination as his village
is attacked but it could be futile.]
GM: See map below. Note each phase the E)nemy Riders and
People outside the tipis will move. I hope the map isn't
too confusing on the keys and labels. If so let me know.
Combat Actions. For those entering you can have 3 phases
of prep time if you wish to cast spells. Before your
on the map as below. Keep ranges in mind though when
you are on the map. The end of the update is where you
are on the map.

[Meanwhile somewhere in the mountains to the east of
Woundenal's Cabin Time: c. 9:35am]
[Caladan goes into a bush and disrobes. A few seconds later
his form shrinks and he becomes a rather large Firesnake.
his own firesnake is surprised by this.]
Xian: "Wow. Didn't know you could shape change!"
[Caladan takes to the sky and flies southward and higher
to get a aerial view of the area. His own Firesnake
tagging along playfully. About 30 seconds later he
makes it high enough to get a good view. He flies
around for another 30 seconds or so. Then he begins
to quickly fly back to the group. As he approaches
the spell wears off and he falls to the ground about 4
feet roughly. His nude body bruised but all seems ok.
He stands slightly embarrassed and and heads to the
bushes to dress. When he returns he explains things.]
Caladan: "i saw a castle all right. Its about a mile
to the south. So you did good Chion. Just a mile
or two off. Its hard to tell distance but it shouldn't
be more than two miles. We might as well start walking
that way. The south trail should lead us just slightly
overhead of the castle and we can get a better view of
it for entering."
GM: In hopes to speed the process a bit...
[The group heads south through the rocky terrain it takes
about 30 minutes to cross. All the time everyone keeps
a look out for any people but see nothing. In fact the
wildlife is a bit less than usual as well. No big animals
only small birds it seems. No rabbits or larger animals.
That could indicate hunting though. As the group climbs
a small incline to cross it gets steep but not unclimbable.
As they near the open top they look down into the small
ravine. There to the left and south-east is the castle.
Its about 300 feet down and to the left. It looks like
the castle was made from the sheer rock itself. Its black
and gray and some brown which seems to blend in with the
rock at places. Its hard to tell height but it looks like
about 50 feet tall from its ground position to the top.
the castle juts out of the ravine side walls and is surrounded
on 2 sides by sheer rock at a straight angle making climbing
difficult. At the bottom is a half circle of water which
must be some form of mild moat? The drawbridge that crosses
the moat to a platform on the other bank is up. the moat
itself is about 10 feet wide and dark water. The castle
itself is in the shadows as its tucked in the corner making
the castle dark.
There seems to be no turrets or other typical castle
structures. There is a roof but it is hard to tell
from this distance. The ravine itself winds south and
east and curves around out of site. There seems to be
no people seen at this distance or angle. There
could be windows but its hard to tell at this distance
as well.]
Xian: "That's it. Dark looking. It looks empty to me."
Caladan: "The drawbridge is up though."
Xian: "Doesn't mean much it could be that way all the
time and theres another way in."
Caladan: "Looks like the castle was built right on a large
cavern opening. Likely inside is rock while the outer
part we see is stone. Makes for cheaper construction."
Xian: "I can teleport in invisible and scout us a place
to enter?"
Caladan: "Should we get the others?"
GM: Hope the description is good enough. If not let me know.
I can try and work up some map or something. Dealing
with some things this week and last so ran out of time
to do a detailed map of it aside from the inside. The
map below is not great but its the best I can come up with.
