[Recap]
From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions]
Oops, Arawn's warning probably would have caused Ben'Dar to hold
off attacking for another phase or two. But I didn't say
anything, after getting Arawn's warning, so my fault...
Ben'Dar laughs fiercely at the armored man when his strike is
blocked by Ben'Dar's armor. Ben'Dar presses his attack literally,
trying to impale the man and shove him back into the roaring wall
of fire behind him.
Once the armored man is dead (either skewered or toasted to a
crisp inside his armor, or both), Ben'Dar will use his magic
pike's long reach to skewer A'kril through his fiery protection.
Ben'Dar remembers all too well the last time he fought a
magic-user and failed to take her out quickly...

-----------------------------
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Fremea will make sure that the guard in front of her is no longer
able to do anything. She will also do what she can to push him
back into the door, hopefully hindering anyone or thing coming
out from it. All the while, mumbling fearry shidh, "So tired of
this damn place, everyone thinks they know better ... ... .."
(just grumbling)
GM: Ack.
-----------------------------
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Annoyed that her invisibility got dispelled and amazed that a
Darkling Light spell managed to get through her magical defenses
Z'leyra musters her will against the pain and casts Orient Self
at the max EL she can cast in one phase followed by casting an
EL4 Dispel/Banish vs Chaos through her staff at the Darkling
Light spell. If that doesn't work she recasts the dispel at the
highest EL she is capable of. That it got thru her immunity only
weakened to effective EL4 might signal that it is too high an EL
for her to do anything but die.
Too low on mana she plans to physically attack A'kril after that.
GM: Ack.
-----------------------------
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
<Finally got my internet problem fixed!> <Actions look good to me
so far, and Raban has magical courage so wont worry much about
facing such odds. Anyway he is upset and has a way to release
some of it. Unless they are quite skilled or lucky, Raban should
have little trouble with them, though having people at your back
is dangerous! Lethal force is warranted in this situation, and
the guards would not know anything important anyway.>
[Raban is quite upset and glad to have an outlet. He knew there
would be a fight eventually, but Arawn wished to try to talk, so
he had to work with that. The Time of Words is over and the Time
of Fists is NOW. Maybe some will live to regret and learn from
this...
<Raban is likely a bit too busy to notice Frema moved from the
sheltered Spot he put her, nor that Z'leyra wishes past him. His
subconscious reaction would be to keep her from the guards... Poor
guards, if Raban hits them squarely his fist could go all the way
through them!>
GM: Ack.
-----------------------------
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
- It's all good. Though Arawn would've liked to have had a chance
to talk things out he'll just have to deal with the cards that
have been dealt:-)
Scott- I'm good with the choice you made. Actually makes things
easier for me as I would've had Arawn refrain from fighting if he
saw that it was a party member that initiated the fight. Arawn
would not have attacked A'kril or any of his men and reacted a
bit differently instead of charging the mage but my reply didn't
exactly cover the group initiating things:-)
Arawn's face remained impassive as the others seemingly complied
with the request, though inside he was glad that they were
allowing an opportunity for diplomacy over battle. It seemed that
A'kril might actually be open to negotiations but before that
could happen all chaos broke loose. Upon hearing Ben'dar's call
to battle Arawn looked over his shoulder, a shocked expression
on his face.
"What?... Ben'Dar, stop!" (would've been in 1st phase ideally) But
it was already too late. Blood flowed and around him both sides
sprung into action. Arawn rose from the couch and pressed himself
against low against a wall in an effort to stay out of direct
combat, difficult though it was in the crowded chamber. Deciding
that enough was enough he took a gamble and tore the wrap from
his head in hopes that A'kril would recognize and react
positively (as well as can be given the situation) to an Alfar
and then called out to him in Sidh.
"Help me stop this madness! I don't know why he attacked! Pull
your men back and I'll try to calm my companions!" (Arawn will
rush saying this so as to get it out as fast as possible)
- If A'kril seems willing to try this then Arawn will call to the
others to stop and pull back, letting them know A'kril will do so
as well. Arawn doesn't expect them to likely respond but would
give it a try anyways.
- If A'kril doesn't respond then Arawn will try to pacify the
situation, attempting to stabilize any of the fallen on either
side while keeping an eye to his defense.
- If A'kril doesn't agree then Arawn will engage the guards in
combat, using Martial Arts and attempt to do subdual damage if
possible without severely affecting his fighting ability. If an
opening exists to reach A'kril Arawn will attempt to do the same
to him instead.
He'll use his buckler for protection if need be but will use his
Martial Arts offensively. He'll dodge the flames if it nears him.
If possible Arawn will cast Energy Shield on himself at max EL.
GM: Ack. Glad I could talk to you in ICQ to clarify things the
other night. It helps to get motivated in doing these things.
Used to do it with Z'leyra but he hasn't been in ICQ for a
month or so now. So motivation is down :<
-----------------------------
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Just a note to folks...it has been fun playing with you. According
to the rules Z'leyra cannot cast magic while being hurt each
turn. She will die if an EL4 or higher dispel isn't cast on the
Darkling Light that is eating her. I doubt that any in the party
besides Z'leyra are that skilled at dispels. I hope I am wrong.
GM: Ack. :<
-----------------------------
From John Hooten: [Re: Spells]
Can you cast Dispel at El4 in a single phase?
Damage only cancels the spell if it occurs before the mana
gathering is complete
4.511) If the magic-user is damaged while casting a spell, i.e.
before all mana has been allocated to it, the spell will not take
effect and any mana cast is lost. He must start over to cast the
spell.
So if you can single phase cast it may be complete before the
next damage occurs, in magic resolution
Is the caster here? If so his death cancels the spell. If an
item then it would need to be broken.
Regeneration spell can extend time at cost of mana then life
force, not a good solution but workable
Also it allows other means of giving mana or life to aid you
Or the easiest solution, wear a tourmaline and be immune!!!!
[**Ale'x repeated email deleted***]
GM: Ack. the rule has been dickered and debated over for 20 years
here. Many heated arguments with Varange for example. :) I
can myself interpret it to be 3-4 different things. But for
sake of keeping the conversation of the argument down won't go
into it here. Maybe a good discussion for the pnp main list.?
-----------------------------
From Alex K: [Re: Dispelling]
If she cannot get a spell off in one phase she yells "Need a
dispel EL4 here!" while dropping her staff, grabbing her sword
and going offensively to cut down the enemy leader. If still alive
after the leader goes down she chops at the spot the Darkling
Light came from, hoping to break the item that cast the spell.
"Don't have to have a higher level dispell spell. You can still
dispell, but it adds its el as part of its "MDV" to resist your
dispell."
Generally true, but at least in the 1st Ed. Darkling Light
specifically says "The only way to counter the effect is with a
Dispell/Banish spell of the same EL or higher."
GM: Ack. Of course EL might be techno-babble for most to understand.
Sounds spanish. :) "EL4" :)

[New Stuff]
[Ma 2nd, 1633TH. 5th Day of Adventure #4.
[Location: Chaos domain, Dark Lands, 9 Miles up, Flying Island]
[Time: 10:19am]
[Turn 1: Phase 3]
[Mana Allocation - ]
[Z'leyra, Kiet and Caladan allocate mana for magical spells.]
[Missile Fire - None]
[Magic Effect - ]
[The magical ward Darkling Light continues to encircle Z'leyra
and she takes another 5 points of damage from more welts and
sores.]
[Z'leyra casts a shamanic orientation spell while tapping
her drum ever so softly.]
[Caladan quickly casts his spell and mist forms about 5 feet
behind him and in front into the hallway. Guard #3 (9 on
map) falls to the ground asleep from the mist. But the other
man remains standing.]
[Kiet casts another abandon spell in Lemasan on the guard
attacking him (#7 - G on map) and a look of confusion drifts
upon his face.]
[Melee & Movement - ]
[Raban punches the man in front of him (E guard #6) who he
hit previously for subdual damage and does more in the upper
left chest. Amazingly after two punches the man remains
standing.]
[Unali finds herself in a different daring spot than she
intended. She hadn't seen the two guards on the side of the
wall. But she realizes it was a good tactic to hide and she
grits her teeth she didn't detect that from the start. She
finds herself in a very dark hallway only about 6 feet wide
and maybe 15 feet long. She finds herself closer to the
north door than the south door. It is carpeted making
footfalls muffled. Only dimly lit candles on the west wall
make it visible slightly but most of the hallway is abound
in shadows. Below Unali is the guard she just killed with
head at her feet and legs toward the other two guards in
near the door. She figures the secret door was likely more
an escape route for folks in the main room rather than an
ambush point. She wonders why she didn't get a warning from
her necklace. Maybe A'kril is not fully Chaotic or the
thing about alignment mix Arawn mentioned when he examined
the statue is to blame? For the first half second she
decides on her action. Aren had mentioned she could get
use of something called naptha powder that flashes and
distracts. But it often doesn't work as well. She could
somersault past the guards but they would know about it and
there is little room in the ceiling for jumping over. With
her left hand she reaches down to her sling bag and pulls a
projectile for her sling out. She places her right foot on
the dead man's legs and then puts her plan into motion. She
knows her clothing helps hide herself in the darkness and
the guards will have to do slow searches, even though it
won't take long 1-4 seconds to search the hallway. She
tosses the projectile to the left toward the north-east
corner of the door and then pushes with her foot to move
the man's legs toward the guard on the right. >the guard
on the left looks toward the door and the right one looks
down as feet touch his. she uses this chance to leap over
the dead man and quietly as she can move south into the
darkness. She knows it won't take long for smart guards
to find her even in the darkness. But she continues to
move south. She notices a small table about 3 feet high
and ducks behind it. The table is too small likely for
just a candle tray and won't hide her for long. She looks
to the nearest light and its about 4 feet away.]
[The Bowman who Raban knocked down and then took up his battle
axe swings again at Raban but with good luck for Raban fails
to strike.]
[Ben'dar laughs at the armored man who couldn't penetrate his
tough armor. He sees the mist form just behind the man and
wonders if he should press his man toward the mist or the
fire. Figuring the fire the best option he swings his pike
and it slices deep into the lower left chest just under the
ribs ripping through the chainmail and doing massive damage.
The man's eyes widen just a second and he falls to the ground
dead. Ben'dar grunts knowing that it did take 4 good blows
to take the man down.]
[Swordsman (#6) near couch and Arawn doesn't move but just
looks around as if he has never seen furniture. His eyes
seem to glaze over as he turns and stares at the fire wall
around A'kril as if hypnotized by the light.]
[Arawn decides the fight has gone on long enough. He still
believes deep down in the art of diplomacy. Something here
just isn't right to him. Then he cringes when he sees
Ben'dar take down the armored man. That won't do good
at all for talks if that was A'kril's aide or bodyguard.
Arawn stands and placing his sword to his side he places
it on top of the downed couch. So that the sword rests
on the front of the couch which is now facing the ceiling.
The backrest of the couch is on the ground and legs of the
couch are pointing toward the fireplace. the thin strip
where legs met couch from knee to floor is the "top" now.
He does this and glances right toward the covered swordsman
who seems dazed. He realizes now why the men were hard
to see their face is covered by a leather helmet visor of
some sort. He glances back to A'kril and decides to risk
it all. He places his free hand on his face and brings down
his face wrap revealing his full Elven features to the
master of this castle. He then speaks quickly in Sidh.]
Arawn: "Help me stop this madness! I don't know why he
attacked! Pull your men back--"
[With his other hand free of the sword he raises it toward
Ben'dar to try to get his attention but his back is to the
Elf. Arawn knows that if the firewall has some magic to
create fireballs or something he is likely a standing
target.]
[All the guards but the first four seen react at this point.
Guard 1 and 2 in the hallway react to the new situation.
Guard 1 glances over his left shoulder and hears Arawn
speaking and then sees the armored man on the ground. But
he turns back right toward the sound and walks quietly that
way to ensure Unali didn't escape out the door. Guard 2
Guard 2 heads south down the dark hallway scanning the area
with his sword left and right. Unali holds her breath as
the man passes 4 feet past her and continues down the hall.
The sword the man swings back and forth comes within 2
inches of her body. The man doesn't seem to notice her in
the dark black clothing she finds useful. Then the other
guard says something and he turns right back facing Unali
and listens to the man for a second. He then turns back
left and straight down the hallway toward the door. He
opens it and looks out into the hallway.
Guard 3 (A) takes up the position in the doorway where
the other guard was attacking Caladan. He thrusts his
sword at Caladan but fails to land a strike.
Guard 5 and 6 attack Raban (D and E). Guard 5 thrusts toward
the rear of the tall man and the sword makes contact on the
right middle back doing 4 points of tissue damage. Guard
6 in front of Raban swings but fails to hit him.
Guard 7 with a confused look turns from Kiet and decides
that way looks good. Without looking down he stumbles north
and almost walks over Fremea. the guard pushes her to the
right a foot and continues walking. He ends a few feet
away to the side of Z'leyra and seems to sniff the air as
if looking for something.
Guard 8 takes the distraction caused to Fremea and swings
and lower chops Fremea's left shoulder slicing deep past
her Elven leather, which does take a good chunk of the
blade in resistance. But her left shoulder takes 4 points
of damage and she winces in pain.
Suddenly as all the above guards move the door the party
came in bursts open and in comes four more guards. They
take flanking positions besides the door 2 on each side
and look around the room.]
[Z'leyra grimaces in pain and looks to the side to see the
confused man. She growls as blisters swell and she wonders
why he is sniffing her hair? Insane people. She draws her
great sword just in case she can stop the spell to go kill a
wizard. She elbows the insane man off her and away but only
about a foot from her.]
[Caladan swings his hard war staff against Guard #4 (A) and
hits him in the upper left chest cracking bones and doing
massive damage. The man staggers back in pain but Caladan
is amazed to see him still standing.]
[Kiet grabs another rope strand from his supply and creeps up
behind Guard #8 (J) who is fighting Fremea and places the
rope onto his neck over his shoulders but not as a noose since
the man has a good 10 inches on Kiet in height.]
[Through the door stomps a towering figure the party has
seen before. The Metal Man enters the room and stops just
behind Arawn about 4 feet behind him.]
[Inside the firewall A'kril looks fully at Arawn and then
from inside the fire wall a few words are spoken but not
in the Sidh tongue.]
----------------------------------
[Turn 1: Phase 4]
[Mana Allocation - ]
[Z'leyra and Kiet allocate energy for spells.]
[Missile Fire - None]
[Magic Effect -
[The Darkling Light continues to swirl over Z'leyra and
she takes another 5 points of damage.]
[Z'leyra speaks her words to dispel the Darkling Light spell.
She has no clue where it is coming from so casts it in
a general direction hoping the spell finds its target. If
not she may be dead in less than 10 seconds. She hopes the
spell works.]
[Kiet quickly casts his Entangle spell upon the rope he
just laid on the guard. Using his fingers in a form of
a circle the rope tightens and wraps around the man's
neck and Kiet closes his fingers even tighter shrinking
the radius of the circle.]
[Melee & Movement -]
[Raban becomes tired of playing around, especially now that
one guard has just hurt him. He growls and goes for
another dual attack since the other guard behind him is
very close. He punches the man in front of him and is
lucky to land a head hit. The man has already taken a good
18 points of subdual damage from other 2 hits but now in
one blow takes a massive 18 points to the head. Bone, Jaw,
Teeth and nose all break at once. The head becomes one
squishy mess as blood splatters onto Raban's hand. The man
falls back dead before he leaves Raban's fist. With his
right leg Raban kicks back donkey style and hits the man
in the left leg. The knee cap shatters under the force of
the blow and the leg is broken. The man takes a massive
17 points of damage from the deadly kick. The man falls
back dead and tumbles near the wall.]
[Unali leaps up. She knows the other guard will come down the
hallway soon so its better to handle one guard then the other.
She has confidence she can handle both but in this strange
magical place it is best to deal with one task at a time.
She leaps and runs toward the man in the doorway and stabs
him in the center right back. The magical dagger penetrates
deep enough to kill him without a word from his mouth. He
slides off the dagger with a muffled thump. She slips
behind the door into the shadows.]
[Swordsman #2 (6 on map) near Arawn and the couch decides
to wander back toward the east wall. He walks past the
chair and ends up near the water cabinet as if wanting to
walk through the wall.]
[Ben'dar glances right toward Arawn and sees the raises hand
but doesn't know what he is saying. He looks up though to
see four more guards and the metal man standing in the south
end of the room. He decides maybe killing A'kril will end
this all. He charges toward the hot fire wall and uses his
long pike to swing wildly into it not knowing the exact
position of A'kril. But the polearm swings wild and doesn't
hit anything but flame.]
[The man with the battle axe sees his two comrades fall to
Raban's fierce attack. He twirls his battle axe and swings
it at Raban. The blade strikes him in the upper right arm
just above the guantlets. The blade shreds muscle tissue
doing 5 points of damage. Raban winces in pain at the light
wound but knows his arm might be hard to use for a while.]
[Arawn frowns at Ben'dar and glances over his shoulder behind
him to the new threat. Where is Chion? Could they have
killed him without help from the party? Arawn's anger builds
for a split second then he turns back to A'kril's location
and continues his speech.]
Arawn: "--and I'll try to calm my companions!"
[Guard #8 turns from the north door and sneers. He sees the
south door open and the other guard Unali just killed fall
to the ground. But doesn't see Unali as she must've killed
him while his back was turned. He begins slowly moving the
20 feet or so south. He carefully swings his sword back and
forth and looking in the dark patches of the hallway. He
pauses at the door and crouches down to inspect the dead
guard finding a stab wound. He stands and steps over the
body and look out into the foyer south hallway area for
the enemy.]
[At the same time Guard 4 (A on map) thrusts at Caladan again
but the blade slices past Caladan's body and misses
entirely.]
[Guard 2 (Swordsman 2 - 6 on map) and Guard 7 (G on map)
continue to stare with confused looks. They do not move but
one seems to find the helmet Z'leyra wears fascinating. The
other seems to like the paint job behind the drink cabinet.]
[The four guards behind the metal man near the south door
stand their ground. They look around for A'kril but do not
see him behind the fire wall. They seem to be figuring
out what to do next.]
[Z'leyra drops her staff just below the confused guard.
Groaning slightly from the burn welts she draws her great
sword and turns. She chargest toward the fire wall and the
last known position of A'kril. Swinging at chest level she
swings her sword but fails to impact anyone.]
[Caladan swings back toward Guard 4 (A on map) and hits with
deadly force with his magical war staff. The staff impacts
hard on the left shoulder doing enough damage to break the
shoulder blades, impacting ribs and lungs doing massive
damage of 24 points killing the guard.]
[Kiet sees the rope tighten harder as he concentrates to
keep the rope tight. He hates what he has to do next but
it is him or the guard and self preservation is too high
a instinct. Already Guard 8 (J on map) is showing blue from
lack of air from his neck noose. He has already dropped his
sword and grabbing at the rope. Kiet 3walks the couple feet
toward the man and gives some mercy to the choking man. He
raises his dagger and stabs him in the soft part of the neck
and wind pipe. The execution quickly ends the already dying
life of the guard. Lucky for Fremea the blood sprays just
to the right of her.]
[Fremea sees her guard fall and looks over her shoulder at
the two dazed guards. They aren't a big threat now. As
the guard falls she pushes the body into the door he came
out of, making a virtual man barrier. As she does this
she grunts in Faerry Sidh.]
Fremea: "So tired of this damn place, everyone thinks they
know better ... ... .."
[Fremea glances at the metal man and knows that if he went
after Fremea she would likely be dead. She decides that
maybe it might be best to hide. She leaps over the body
into the darkened room and puts her back to the wall. She
begins to scan the room. She wonders if this area will lead
to a place she can ambush the new 4 guards from. Her
eyes adjust quickly but notice there is a single candle
on a wooden desk. The room is lit by the candle and she
can tell there is only 3 chairs of wooden design and the
wooden simple desk. The floor is stone and not carpeted.
There is a metal door a couple feet away to the left and
to the south (Fremea's right) is another door and it seems
open as there is light coming in from somewhere.]
[The Metal man senses danger for Master A'kril. It seems
he can sense where A'kril is. He sees Ben'dar and Z'leyra
fighting the wizard. Each has a 50/50 chance of being
the target. The man begins to stomp forward toward Arawn
then turns right and rounds the couch and starts to storm
near Z'leyra. He comes behind the Shaman and punches
her as hard as he can with his right hand. The metal
impact goes hard and indents the chainmail so hard it does
3 points of damage past the chainmail's padding. She
is pushed into the firewall that surrounds A'kril a foot
and the fire impacts against her body but she doesn't
burn as her helmet and more importantly her firestone
seems to protect her.]
GM: Was a purely random 1-50 Ben'dar 51-100 Z'leyra. :<
[A'kril glances and sees the metal man coming to his help.
He decides to go after Ben'dar. He thrusts his sword at
Ben'dar and hits in the upper left shoulder just below the
shoulder doing 3 points of damage past his dragon armor.
For the first time Ben'dar spills blood in this combat. A
voice in the language is heard seeming to shout one or two
words. Then it quickly shifts to Sidh and A'kril speaks
very quickly.]
A'kril: "Halt your allies!"
[Quickly and with motion like a bird suddenly from the
south door floats inside the room the statue. It seems
the statue can move and is floating on its stone disk.
It is still in stone form but hovers off the ground about
3 feet and looks toward the back of the room. Both hands
are raises and poised. Ben'dar, Z'leyra, Fremea and
Arawn notice the statue enter.]
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Friday...I hope...
GM: Arawn - Good actions so far. But with the time it will
be critical on what folks do in the next few phases.
I still have posted actions but not all could be
done in 2 phases. Including the warning of others,
the energy shield and such. I will do that next
unless you change plans.
Ben'dar - You continue to fight A'kril?
Chion - Email to follow and we'll figure out what to do for
a new character. :<
Fremea - I did your action partially by blocking the doorway.
But I also figured stealth and hiding might be best for
now. You know the room is empty. You can move back
into the main room if you wish. Let me know.
Kiet - Got two dazed guards you could take out but now new
threats are in the room.
Raban - You only have 1 of the 3 left. The guy with the
battle axe. If you can take him out new actions?
Z'leyra - You should know next phase if the spell was
dispelled or not. Your pretty damaged and figure you
can't take much. You may need to retreat and heal?
But then theres the metal man. He'd have attacked
anyone attacking A'kril so just bad choice of location
and 50/50 :<
Unali - You saw a bit of the hallway south so will detail
some of the map section you see below. If you take
out the last guard do you go with your previous actions
emailed or new actions? Will assume the emailed actions
if not stated otherwise.
GM: Next update I will do Map cleanup. Will remove the dead
icons from the map. So as better to figure out who is
left. But for now they remain.
GM: Now as to Arawn's Peace Plan. A'kril seems to listen
but your not sure of his orders. You can assume from
his statement that it works both ways on stopping the
conflict. At this point it will be mainly up to Ben'dar,
Z'leyra and maybe Raban, Kiet, Fremea to figure out what
will happen to the plan. How they act. But the problem
is Ben'dar doesn't understand what is said. Z'leyra
does. But Ben'dar doesn't. Chances are he'd get in
another swing unless Ben'dar changes his mind?
GM: Party still had to deal with Metal Man, Flying Mysterious
Statue, A'kril, 6 guards that are clear threats. 2 Guards
are dazed/confused by Kiet and others KO/Dead or Sleeping.
