[Recap]
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
<Raban looks at the arm held in his hand...Ooops> <Actually such
a thing is possible for his strength since Raban can lift a large
horse. Most shoulders cannot take that kind of stress.
<Well I did say intimidate... But I expect it is too late to have
much impact
<Lots of fun so far, Raban is operating as best he may under the
conditions. Coming to Fremea's aid will be a priority but he
cant ignore an opponent either. PnP is bad on turning your back
to someone!
<better send it now before I loose more of my typing... many
lines mysteriously vanished and were not in the undo buffers
GM: Ack. The arm wasn't ripped off. Just tore out of its socket.
I rolled a 1 and that's before mods. So was a deadly hit.
It was 4x his hit points in damage. There was some show
(Mythbusters I think?) that talked about ripping limbs off
like Wookies doing. Seems its not so easy.
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Fremea will move out, firing bow at any target that seems to be
quickly picked off.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Nightmare:
{...meanwhile Z'leyra starts dreaming of fighting enemies in
front of her that can't touch her and feeling confident that her
friend protects her back...till her friend turns into a ravening
bear and swats her on the head! ...}
GM: Ack. Heh. :) Dream of bears or big burly men like Chion or
Raban? Hmmmm....
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
Kell hangs on to Tef'wo, adjusting as best as he can; luckily he
is an ok horseman. Ha'Kell says to Ben'Dar, "Close and I'll jump
him" while holding his spear out and to the right side, point down
but ready to stab that bandit or jump him from behind. Ha'Kell
tries to look back at the wagon and see how the battle goes while
riding behind Ben'Dar.
[I figure we're too far from the wagon to make any difference,
even not going after Kell's horse. It is also much better to not
let any of the scum get away.]
[This is a bummer that so many are knocked out. Especially the
healer and cookie maker. Cookies are good... Very good. Peanut
Butter with light chocolate chips, mmmm. Oh, and does anyone
know of any jobs? ]
GM: Ack. You're riding to the wagon not from it. So no need to
look back but forward. As to cookies that was an inside joke.
Alex had cookies with another player here and dared not to send
me any. So what if its across the nation. Geesh. Now you
mention cookies and I'm hungry! When you say jump do you mean
to jump on your horse or jump as in modern terms to jump
a person, to attack? :) Want to be sure here.
From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions]
Ben'Dar lets Tef'wo run, pursuing the fleeing monk. He yells
over his shoulder to Kell, "Hold on!" In response to Kell's
suggestion to close in, Ben'Dar grins and nods. He likes the
recklessness of Kell's plan to leap from Tef'wo.
Ben'Dar doesn't see any need to do one or the other (either ride
the horse or sit still and fire his bow). He is quite skilled
in horse archery, which involves shooting from atop a moving
horse. So as Tef'wo pursues the fleeing monk, Ben'Dar continues
firing arrows. He guides Tef'wo as needed with his knees.
Er...let me clarify that: "Ben'Dar doesn't see the need to do
JUST one or the other (either ride the horse or sit still and
fire his bow). He'll do both!
GM: Ack. I'd figure you'd do both ride and fire. Just wasn't sure
sure if you'd want to attack the man or Kell.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn will melee with the bandit currenly attacking him and will
then move to assist Will and/or Farseeker once he's done. In
case anyone is unaware he'll call out,
"Three down over here!"
GM: Ack.

[New Stuff]
[Julis 8th, 1634TH]
[Location: Jiuquo, Katai]
[Location: 14 miles west of Jinquo]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 66-83]
[Time: 5:08:15pm]
Ben'dar reloads, aims and then fires again at Kell's horse.
The arrow speeds ahead of Tef'wo but whizzes past the monk
by a good foot impacting in the dirt.
Tef'wo speeds after Kell's horse starting to gain some minor
distance closing the gap every few seconds.
The monk on Kell's horse starts to move the horse slightly
side to side to dodge those nasty arrows.
Raban punches Monk #12 in front of him with his right fist
and hits squarely in the right upper chest just above where
his heart should be. The impact is so strong it immediately
breaks ribs and forces one rib toward the lungs and another
toward the heart. The heart is compressed so much it kills
the man instantly.
Unali glances forward and sees no enemy bandits. She glances
up at the wagon to her right and sees only a sleeping Z'leyra.
Turning she sees Will fighting one and looks like one at the
rear of the wagon. She jogs to the rear and sees they are
attacking Whitney. She stabs forward to the side of Monk #17
and hits with her magical dagger to his center left chest doing
massive damage enough to kill him instantly while her regular
dagger fails to contact but isn't needed.
Farseeker now with two more targets attacking him turns to his
right and impales Monk #29 who is already wounded in the lower
right abdomen above his hips killing him instantly.
Ben'dar grins on Tef'wo at the thrilling ride. Sure he knows
Tef'wo is in pain but the horse wanted this. The best warriors
can take the worst damage and fight to wind a battle. Some call
it foolhardy but not the Zen'da. He yells over his shoulder to
Kell, "hold on!"
Arawn kicks toward Monk #27 but the blow is wide and the man
is able to deftly dodge it easily.
Kell holds onto the front of Ben'dar as best he can while his
butt is bucked by the rear of the saddle, gear and Ben'dar's
quiver. He admires Ben'dar's willingness to fight on and
also his strength. Being this close Ha'kell also realizes the
barbarian is quite fit. Yelling over Ben'dar's left shoulder
he says, "Close and I'll jump him."
Shu climbs to the left side to get a view of the battle
field and only sees Arawn and the one monk fighting.
Kiet turns to Strie'bog and says, "Thanks!" Turning he looks
back and sees only one target standing fighting Will. He
runs that way and passes the four Raban took out and stabs
forward his dagger at Monk #24. The dagger hits in the left
lower chest doing the final damage needed to kill the man.
Will nods to Kiet for the help and turns to help Farseeker.
He charges Monk #19 and swings but fails to strike the monk.
Strie'bog nods back to Kiet. Then he runs in front of the
wagon and comes to the right side of the wagon. Seeing
only one up, Chion and Caladan down he rushes to help Arawn.
He swings his axe at monk #27 but does only a minor wound
in his back right side.
Oblivious to the enemy falling around him Monk #8 swings his
blade at Whitney's neck and hits. The dull side of the blade
smacks him and does sufficient damage to make Whitney dazed
and fall to the ground unconscious.
Monk #23 seeing Whitney fall to the ground looks around.
He sees Arawn and Strie'bog attacking one. Then the other
side Unali, Farseeker and Will alone. He decides to charge
Strie'bog and thrust his sword but fails to strike.
Monk #27 swings his sword at Arawn but the Alfar brings up
his buckler in time and the sword slams into the buckler but
it does not break.
Monk #19 thrusts at Farseeker but fails to strike the warrior.
Fremea grabs her bow and quiver then climbs ontop of the dead
man on the wagon floor and leaps outside. She notices now another
man nearby fighting Strie'bog. She runs forward toward the fallen
Chion and gets a better view of the battle site.
[Time: 5:08:18pm]
Ben'dar reloads, aims and fires again. This time Tef'wo has
gained some distance just enough to cause the medium range to
go to short range. This makes the critical difference. The
arrow flies and hits the man in his upper left chest near
his shoulder doing a light wound. The man staggers slightly
on his saddle but with clear skill remains on the saddle.
Ben'dar gives a battle cry of excitement.
Fremea raises her bow but knows firing could hit Arawn or
Strie'bog or Farseeker so holds back.
Raban turns around and approaches the wagon. He peers inside
to see only Shu, Zhou and a dead man. Looking out the right
side door in the distance he sees Fremea safe. Glancing to the
side he rushes past Kiet, Will, Unali and comes to help
Farseeker. He swings at monk #29 but fails to hit the man.
Unali sad that she was just a second or two too late sees
Whitney on the ground. She charges monk #8 and stands over
the unconscious body of Whitney. Swinging both daggers she
hits with both. Since the man is already wounded the total
damage is enough to finish off the man.
Farseeker impales with his great sword Monk #19 in the left
lung and finishes off the wounded monk.
Arawn does a fast right fist at Monk #27's head and hits
doing minor damage but knocking the man out. But his wounds
will later kill him before he is tended to.
Kiet runs to the other side of the wagon to discover only
one monk remains but doesn't reach him in time.
Will runs to the other side and charges the one left
attacking Strie'bog but fails to hit with his sword.
Strie'bog swings his axe and hits the last monk standing
in the left arm doing the final damage to kill the man.
Some twenty odd seconds after the battle started it is finally
over. The party starts to assess their damage.
[Time: 5:08:21pm]
Ben'dar fires again at the last monk but the arrow flies past
and fails to hit the man this time. Tef'wo is only now 50
feet away but the distance is getting shorter every second.
[Time: 5:08:24pm]
Ben'dar fires again at the man but the arrow misses again.
Now Tef'wo is only 35 feet from Kell's horse.
The monk on Kell's horse notices that down the road the
party seems to be walking about calmly. He then realizes
his friends have failed. With a swift jerk he pulls the
horse to the left and heads north into the plains.
[Time: 5:08:27pm]
Ben'dar fires again but the arrow goes wild as the man
pulls his horse northward. Now both horses are only 20
feet apart.
[Time: 5:08:30pm]
Now at this short range Ben'dar raises his bow as Kell raises
his spear. The arrow flies and the monk in the right shoulder
doing massive damage. The Monk goes flying off the horse to
his left and rolls on the ground.
Pulling nearby Kell is very happy to dismount and charge
the man. But as he nears he finds the man already dead.
Ben'dar dismounts and pats Tef'wo who grunts. Clearly the
horse rancher can tell he is in pain but happy. Both men
glance at the wagon some 2,000 feet away and notice some
of the party are moving about but not as fast as if in combat.
Looking at each other they grin that it seems their friends
won out. But at this distance it is hard to tell who is
milling about and who isn't.
Thirty seconds after it starts the battle ends.
As the enemy is quickly checked three that were knocked out
previously during battle later die from bleeding or shock. The
only one left who has heavy damage is monk #20 who remains alive
but knocked out. This is the one Raban slammed another monk into.
[Time: 5:10pm]
Soon Ben'dar and Kell rejoin the party to assess the damage.
They ride on Kell's horse and allow Tef'wo to limp behind
on a slower pace.
Zhou exits the wagon and shakes his head at seeing the scene
around the wagon. "We lost Caladan and Chion? Oh dear...oh
dear."
Farseeker checks Chion for a pulse and shakes his head, "no.
He is hurt but alive."
Arawn checks Caladan and reports the same.
Raban comes around the wagon to find Fremea safe and unhurt.
The giant gently grabs Z'leyra from the driver's platform and
gently places her in his arms. Though knocked out she seems
to shake her head as if dreaming. She taps Rabsn's left shoulder
and mutters, "my bear," or something like that. Raban places
her onto the ground and Arawn checks her over to find only the
head damage but its not severe aside from an intense headache
when she wakes up. There is the minor arm cut but it is easy
to treat.
Zhou circles the wagon and takes the full scene in. "They
hurt the horses...all these bandits..this isn't good." He shakes
his head and continues to survey the scene as folks check bad
guys for pulses. Soon Ben'dar and Kell return to help out as
well. "Our cover story will be hurt by this if news spreads.
Now with blood inside and on that side of the wagon. This
is not good...not good at all."
Those around the wagon mostly ignore the man as they gather
up bodies and tend to wounds that might be most critical.
Overall the party is in excellent shape. Only 1/3rd of the
party, four people, was knocked out. Z'leyra is clearly the
most lucky as if they wanted her dead she'd have no head by now.
Finally monk #20 the same one Raban threw one monk and body
slammed into is found alive. Arawn checks him as Z'leyra is
still out. His wounds aren't critical but he is in bad shape
or what Z'leyra might term heavy damage. He'll live but might
be dazed.
Some of the party estimate it is going to take a good half
hour before the others wake up. By then folks are sure to come
by and look.
Raban and Ben'dar examine the horses to find their hooves
indeed damaged and without magical healing will likely be
a problem moving too far even after bandaging.
[Time: 5:13:30pm]
With the small crossroads village to the east there are bound
to be people coming soon. So the party quickly tries to clean
up as best they can. In fact within only a few minutes a small
wagon driven by two oxen and carrying two old peasants come close
from the west where the party was going. The old man and old
woman stop the open air wagon carrying crates of what look to be
food. A good mile away they jabber to themselves and the party
watch them in case it is another trick. But the old couple
soon exits the road and heads north to bypass the wagon by a good
500 feet or so. As the oxen creep past the wagon the old couple
don't even look to the wagon and keep looking east with heads
down in deference.
Zhou shakes his head, "we are likely to see more of that soon.
If guards come or the military we'll be risking exposure. Let's
clean up and move on."
Farseeker shakes his head, "we can't with these horses unless
Arawn can heal them? Once Z'leyra wakes she can."
Zhou then asks the warrior, "so we are stuck here?"
Farseeker nods, "for now. I'm no horse expert. Ben'dar can
speak up here but I think the draft horses will revolt if we
push them much further. We could camp here but for obvious
reasons that might be risky. Our best chance is to heal them
and move on till night fall. We could go back to the village
a few miles back and get more horses but that might take the
rest of the afternoon. At best it looks like we have an hour
or two max before night fall."
[Time: 5:16pm]
As bodies are checked for any sign of documents or treasure
the bodies are piled up. Soon Farseeker whistles for attention
and points east the way the party came from earlier.
Just then Ben'dar, Kell and Raban return from the forward
scout point with the other three that fell there.
As the party gather to look east they notice two riders coming
fast and do not seem to be slowing. As some hide weapons, others
prepare bows. Looking in all other directions in case bandit
reinforcements come, none are seen in the wide plains.
At half a mile the two riders are seen with hands down and no
bows in hand. At 500 feet the party notices the one on the
left is riding tall but the other one seems to lumber about in
the saddle for some reason.
At 100 feet those with good eyes notice a familiar face on
one of the horses - Tiehul. The other also looks familiar.
As Tiehul and the other man enter the immediate area they
slow down. Tiehul glances around at the wagon, the downed
party members and the stack of enemy bodies. He blows out
a whistle and dismounts which brings weapons up ready. Those
keen eyes notice the other man to be his second in command,
briefly seen a few times at the bar. But the odd thing is that
the man is tied at the wrists and then tied to the saddle. He
looks grim and determined.
Tiehul approaches and looks to those knocked out. "Are they
all right?"
Zhou nods but before he speaks, Farseeker grabs Tiehul by
the collar and whirls him around. He pushes the tavern-black
market man against the wagon. Farseeker spits out, "you betrayed
us!"
As Tiehul gasps for air he struggles to speak. "I...I...did
not...hh" He tries to raise a finger but the air supply is
being cut off by Farseeker's strength.
Zhou comes forward, "let him go, he is trying to speak."
Farseeker releases the short man. Tiehul gasps for air and
then speaks. "I...I'm sorry. I did not. He did." He points
to his second in command on the horse who just continues to
glare downwards. "It seems coins danced in his head. Either
he overheard me or learned through some other means that you
were ...what you are. The temptation of coins was too strong.
Your entire party...could be worth enough to buy a merchant
ship or a large estate and retire. This richly sum in bounty
was enough to betray me." He spits toward the man's horse.
"He has been with me for over 8 years. I thought I trusted him.
But his greed got the best of him. One of my loyal men heard
him talking to some bounty hunter and let me know." He waves
tot he dead monks. "These bounty hunters then setup this trap.
They were told," he glares back at the man, "...of those
with certain skills. I am glad to see that you are all good.
As soon as I heard an hour after you left I set out to try
to warn and help. But clearly I was too late."
Tiehul then approaches the horse and cuts the rope to the
saddle. He then reaches up and physically yanks the man off
the horse. The man falls to the left and hits the road with
a loud thud. From the sound it seems his shoulder might have
just broke as well. The man howls briefly in pain but then
quietly settles back down. "I have dishonored my trust with
you. I wish to repay it. This man is yours to kill. I
would have done it but he is your property now. Do with him
as you wish." He glances down at his ex-friend. "I once trusted
you but now greed has ruined your heart." He then walks forward
and turns his back on him.
Tiehul then kneels down and spreads his arms. "For my dishonor
I also give my life if you wish." He lowers his head. "I know
this has not spread out to more bounty hunters. I have seen
to it that my man Lai at the jail you met will deal with this
personally. I will pay him handsomely even if you kill me to
cover this up. Your future plans will not be ruined. Now
I accept any punishment."

Next Update...Monday...
GM: Congratulations folks! You won and sadly no one died this
time. I'll try again later. :) Caladan took the worst
physical damage while Whitney took the most subdual damage
(ie bruises, systemic shock, etc.). From the look of the
experience chart below it doesn't seem that much for 30
bad guys. But they were simple npcs not pc class. We'd
be here for 2 months if it was pc class. :) I went ahead
and finished the combat since the 2nd phase ended the
wagon combat and it was just the horse chase left. Then
in hopes to progress the game added the next planned event.
GM: I show Fremea has 2 damage but I know she didn't take damage
from this combat. So likely the pirate combat hasn't healed
but that was days ago. I need to check my notes and then
do natural healing rolls if I forgot them. Will confirm and
make those timeline adjustments over the weekend.
