I believe it's both sailors.

I suspect they might be able to detect a spell cast...so I will use my usual natural charms and wit, that were so successful with the dragons, to convince our fine sailor lads that we are not worth bothering with.

Who knows...maybe the wizard on board isn't really a captive, but is helping them detect magic...
