[Recap]
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
<This was from Re: [pnpgm] Hullo out there...? of 4/29/2009
3:30pm and was to anyone there. You did include it in other
text but it looked to be forgotten by others. So Frema at
least was willing to test things.
[-Repeat Post removed for space-]
<Insight at max El is assumed for proper testing. So is this a
personal spell or targeted? Could get nasty if MDV applies!!!
Raban's mind goes BANG! <MDV applying would be a good thing for
the mission, just bad for Raban, as that means items may simply
fail in some aspects.
<IBT? I thought I mentioned that in RP? But in effect teach what
he can and learn what he can thats useful ;) So Seamanship is
one he needs. He can continue working on his new bow, someday he
may get good enough to make a decent one like WSB+6 or so (in
close to a year!) Any spare time he can entertain people on the
ship. Gear? What has the weather been like and what is expected
in Katai? He may need to make some clothes fitting for hot
weather? And that is another task, making what clothing is
proper for the role.
<Big Show?- *Real Name:* Paul Wight, *Born:* February 8th, 1972
in Tampa, Florida, 420 pounds, 7-feet tall, *A.K.A.:* The Giant,
The Big Show <http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/Bios/bigshow.
html <Odd his pic does not make him look all that heavily
muscled. So Raban is 1 foot taller and about the same weight, so
must be a bit thinner.
<Difficult to get good ideas. I found some data on 8' tall people
weighing about 350 pounds as well, so build is tough to determine
well.
<I need to reread all the posts to see what else Raban should
say. I may have missed something important.
GM: Ack. Yes. I saw it and posted it in update. Fremea hasn't
reported results. Maybe I missed it so far. But did
the section below. If any items remain let me know.
If you are to scan folks you should get their permission or
do it privately so they don't know. Let me know. But
will wait for reactions. Insight would have to be cast on each
person. If they are willing MDV is lowered. IBT well "learn
what you can..teach what helps" is a bit vague. But since
you did list seamanship will assume you learn that for 30 days
then. If you want to be specific let me know. If you want
to do bow, tailoring those will be dedicated days. So need
X days for Y skill. :) Oby took measurements from previous
meeting so could provide some clothing. Don't forget Andre
the Giant as well.
From Fremea: [Re: IBT]
IBT - Fremea will practice her archery powers for 1/3 of the time
(the multiple arrows, cold and fire arrows equally). Otherwise
she will learn more disguise and actor skill from Raban. If Raban
is wanting to learn the archery powers, she will make sure they
finish.
Before they leave, Fremea makes sure she has the right clothes
for a child of noble status. If Unali or Zhou can help her to
make sure she gets clothes fit for katai wear, that would be
good.
GM: Ack. To clarify. 1/3rd is 10 days. Multi, Cold, Fire would
be 3 days each with 1 left over? Is that just one spell per
day? EL0 I assume. Clarify please. Disguise and Actor are 2
skills so equally? So 15 days each? Ack on clothes.
From Ben'dar: [Re: Gear]
No, if Tef'wo already has an undamaged leather barding, then
Ben'Dar will only take 1 spare. The armor and spears and other
supplies will be provided by Kiama.
GM: Ack. Using HE's favor. Ack.

GM: Ack. It will take time getting used to doing the quotes
and such. But when game mechanics are mentioned it

of quotes. We tease now but there is a learning curve :).
From Arawn: [Re: Actions/Description]
For the new players here is a description for Arawn-
Arawn is a strikingly handsome alfar. He is an impressive figure-
brilliant blue-green eyes, like the sea, are set in a flawless
face, framed by a thick and shaggy shoulder length mane of
midnight black hair. His form is tall, muscular and athletic. He
moves with the grace and bearing of god yet tinged with a certain
humbleness not often found in the true children of the sidh. The
hint of a smile seems to linger on his face and despite his
youthful appearance an aura of power and nobility surround him
while his eyes shine with intensity and supernatural brilliance,
of an intelligence and wisdom that seems almost beyond his
apparent years. He is often dressed in the grey robes of a druid
of the Sidh, trimmed in red, the cloth and make of exquisite
quality, a silver holy symbol lying hidden underneath. At times
he covers his face in a light wrap, his head often hooded.
Underneath the layers of his robes the shimmering links of
elvish chainmail protect him from the dangers found in the wild
places of the world. And hidden beneath his cloak lies a simple
yet elegant scabbard wherein lies an elven sword.
GM: Ack.
From Strie'bog: [Re: Actions]
(I apologize for the delay, but work kicked my butt recently).
Strie'bog will make sure that he has a map of the Katai lands,
and that evening, he will ask people to help him translate names,
and then he will spend the rest of the night studying the map,
trying to commit as much of it as possible to memory. As
Strie'bog has little in the ways of material possessions, he has
little to pack or ready.
GM: Ack. Again. Don't apologize. We have enough folks, some
can be late or catch up later on things. Map would be basically
what is in the P&P map book. That level of detail. No
lakes, villages, towns are named. Simply cause the maps
are old here in the DL. Better ones and more detailed ones
can be obtained later. Villages and towns move and grow and
die with seasons. So its hard to keep that info. I removed
the rudeness part on the other day. This is the first day
you meet Will. :)
From Kell: [Re: More actions]
[Ha'Kell's response to both of these posts, attempting to
combine them somehow]
Ha'Kell responds to Unali, whilst thinking back to Strie'bog's..
GM: Ack. The combined posts do help. Thanks.

GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra replies "Some items we can get the material for...
Z'leyra will, with Raban's permission cast Orient Self EL0 then
cast Detection (magic) ELmax thru staff on him quickly followed
by Soul Sight ELmax thru staff in an effort to see what magic he
has hidden and if she can spot it.
Z'leyra will talk with the appropriate people to get the hides,
lumber, practice weapons and tools delivered to the ship. She
will pay what is needed.
She ponders whether to leave all her magic behind with Corona
or to attempt to hide them via Corona carrying an Oblivion item.
Leaving items behind would mean she would not be able to enchant
near as much before fighting the Vong. She also wants to loan her
necklace to help folk understand each other. She tends towards
taking the items and Corona...but waits to see if the words are
spoken which change her mind.
GM: Ack. Raban will have to let us know. Remind me when you
do this in ICQ or something. It'll be lost in the next
20 or 30 posts likely to come out before next update.
I need to know amounts of above. Remind me of this in your
IBT action post and that you'll pay for it. Lumber will
be hard to store on ship unless its small. The crew might
not appreciate full wagon of lumber. Deadline coming soon
on magic items left or not. Keep in mind if Corona flies
around with all your items in one basket this case Oblivion
and he is killed by a Roc or fire arrow. Then Eaten or
killed by a lucky hunter even when it gets close to ground
then all your items go poof. Well might be inside a Roc
if you can find it. :)

[New Stuff]
[Apris 15th, 1634TH]
[Time: 10:50am - After meeting with High Elder ends.....]
Strie'bog seems distant, lost in thought toward the end of the
discussions with the High Elder, and during introductions. Finally
as folks leave he approaches Z'leyra.
"While I wish to spend time learning the Katai language, there
is something I can do that may help in our search. As I mentioned
to the high elder, I can commune with gods regarding places,
especially lakes, which carry ancient power. You may remember
when I did this before, and the long periods of deep trance I
entered to gain information. On the boat, I will attempt this,
but I will need your help to safeguard my body during this time,
and help to keep me alive if the trance lasts too long. Would
you be willing to do this?"
Z'leyra responds, "certainly. Let me know when."
After Kell introduces him, Arawn's eyes drifted over the
newcomer's, Ha'Kell's sudden approach finally focusing his
attention on the half-elf. He smiled warmly, a twinkle seeming to
dance in his peaceful blue-green eyes, bright as the sea. He
listened to Kell's greeting and inquiry in silence before
responding. "I am Arawn, Alfar and Druid, the hand and voice of
the Sidh, and it is a pleasure to meet you Ha'Kell of Ba'Ru," he
replied in a friendly tone. He studied the man's face for the tell
tale signs of the rare half-elf. Though he enjoyed the company of
most of the humans he had met he was glad to find those linked to
the Sidh to travel with as well, first Fremea and now Kell. Of
course there are those who support the Sidh like Raban and the
other Bard Strie'bog.
"I," Arawn continues, "am sorry to hear of your father's
disappearance. Even more unfortunate to say that you are not the
only one looking for family in this group." Arawn glances
at the sitting Fremea near Will. A distant look crossed Arawn's
face for a moment before passing, a quirked grin appearing in its
place before he focused once again on Kell.
"I am always ready to help those in need and as I am already
tracking for another I could not, in good conscience, turn you
away. I will help you and I ask for nothing in return, though your
friendship is appreciated if you choose to give. Give me some
time finish preparations for the journey and we can speak in depth
on your situation."
After Will and Fremea introduce each other, Fremea finds
her ears twitch a bit. Something about this man concerns her
but she can't be certain what. Then again she was like that
with a few of the others when she joined this group. Now
she is close friends with them. She knows she will have to
watch will carefully. She finally replies in Faerry Sidh, "Yes,
it is very important to learn from what others know first and find
out how trustworthy they are." She glances over at the last of
the party leaving and still doesn't trust all of them fully but
many have gained her trust.
Before Strie'bog leaves he approaches Will and gets help
with translation by Fremea. "I am Strie'bog, and I am pleased to
have you as a new companion."
-------------------------
[Apris 15th, 1634TH]
[Time: 12:01pm - Before party departs after meeting...]
Soon after the meeting the talk of cover story continues
around the group. "I will take what is offered to me. I would
take the suggested role of scribe but as my skill in reading and
writing Katai is limited I would wonder if this would make sense.
Choose as you will for me and I will adapt."
Zhou nods but simply states, "I will add suggestions in a few
days after I think on it."
Sensing Zhou's hesitation Arawn made his way to the man's side
when he was finally alone. He understood the position he had been
placed in for such was the nature of court but such politics were
something he often looked down upon. It had its place, true, but
he felt it should exist to foster respect, not the exercise of
power and control. "Thank you, Zhou. I know the position you have
been placed in so your options were limited, to say the least. The
only comfort I can offer is that I will not allow anything to
happen to you. I will see you safely home," Arawn said
reassuringly.
Zhou nods and gulps a bit as he glances at the Citadel Tower
home to Ki'ama's workshop. "Thank you. This is not a safe
trip we make. Of all the places this is the worst for a Dark
Lander or wizard to go into. I rather walk into a Dragon's
lair rather than go to Katai." He glances back at Arawn. "But
I do it for the honor and glory of our and everyone's lands."
Finally a faint smile snows. "I have learned though not to boast
so much about foreign places and doing things abroad to folks.
Best keep my mouth shut from now. If I live that lesson will be
in my mind forever."
After Fremea scans Raban for magic, Raban speaks up.
Raban grins at what he learns, "Fremea, I would think you
were quite good at such detections, but you did not see the hidden
one. That one may be safe for this trip. The others, even the
spare items I had from before, must be left with the other magic
for later retrieval. If you are willing to try, can you tell if I
have any detectable powers? Sadly I expect Blessings would detect
as magic, so I cannot use those on this mission easily. Unless I
can limit them or remove them at need? I have never tried to do
that. And if you are willing, I would like to determine if Insight
can detect that you have magical abilities."
Raban turns to the others, that are left in the area. "If I
try the Insight spell, I would wish to test it against more people
just to be sure. Is it possible for someone to have a magical
ability and not know it? Actually yes, I know that is possible,
so it could be important to know of such things before we find
out when we do not suspect problems. If I see something, should I
say so to everyone or keep such private? Feel free to say what you
can detect about me, I think I can trust everyone with a few
secrets. I have even shown some of them already that I have hidden
from most everyone else. I think it is important to know what an
enemy could discover or how little that shows by any means we can
verify. These magic hunters may even have innate magical abilities
that aid them, or even divine ones? Such should be rare but possible
and if so, will be used in more important places...Maybe you have
already dismissed all the things that are worrying me, but if so,
please tell me about it so I know."
Raban smiles as he talks with Fremea further. "So you do not
want a drooling monster for a guard. Just what would you prefer? I
am a skilled actor, but there are limits to what roles I can
perform properly. If I must act like some of the noble servants I
have seen, and speak like they do, I will need some practice. And
since my Katai is not perfect, that will need some effort as well.
But a challenging role is always the most fun, so whatever you want
I will endeavor to perform. It may be a good idea to stock up on
materials to make various outfits for everyone and other useful
things for disguises. Various cosmetics, perfumes, jewelry will be
needed as well."
"I," Fremea replies to Raban, "will be glad to have you do so.
I only wish to make sure it is in private." Fremea will take a
closer look at Raban.
Arawn listened to the conversation that was shared between
Raban the Gentle Giant and Fremea the Fiery Faerry. It seemed that
Raban wished to test various sensing methods and Arawn decided it
might be good to assist.
"If you wish it I will sense what I can as well."
Arawn starts with mana sensing and finds the same thing that
Fremea found.
Eventually talk comes of skills to use on ship and the
suggestion is made by Z'leyra of learning ship skills. Kiet
replies to this topic, very seriously, "Ah, excellent...ready-made
swabbies. It's not really a problem unless you get sea-sick...and
leave a trail in the sea by which we are followed." After a moment,
seeing how the party reacts, Kiet starts laughing.
Will finds Raban, "Raban did I see you working on a bow
earlier. That is a skill I would like to learn if you have the
chance perhaps you could teach me as you work on your bow. In
return perhaps I could teach you line drawing or maybe something
else?"
Laughing uncomfortably, everyone sees Kell turn a bit green and
possibly, maybe, no one can really be sure they see him sway a bit
in the saddle, maybe they did, "Um, well, I've avoided the ocean,
there are big waves, hurricanes, more... Lakes and rivers are
nice, but those big waves. And storms." Now Ha'Kell definitely
sways a bit and is a bit green. Give me nice mountains or deserts
anyday."
Caladan also turns a bit green at the thought of big waves
but quickly recovers.
"Learning this seaman skill sounds like a good idea to me. I
have never been on the ocean but it sounds interesting." If being
on the ocean for the first time makes Will uncomfortable he is not
going to show it. "As a hunter I have some skills useful in a
fight but there I mostly rely on stocking my prey ambushing it and
killing it so I am ill prepared for large combat. The time on
board ship could be useful to learn shield and scimitar which may
be useful in such a situation."
f
Oby briskly walks by helping to deliver some clothing to Unali,
as he hears Kell he speaks over his shoulder, "the Eastern Ocean
this far north is known for its storms. The ship should have
buckets...." Then continues onward with a awkward smirk.
As the party completes their packing and final errands Kiet
brings up the topic of magic items again. "Since I am not an
armorer, I cannot do this. But could not those of you that are
magicians and armorers create the weapons now, carry them until
just before our close encounters with the Vong, and then enchant
them there? You may have to leave the weapon behind...so as not
to upset the Katai people...but at least then you might have some
advantage."
Z'leyra replies "Yes, we could create the items now and enchant
them when we meet the Vong, presuming we have a few minutes
available to do it before combat. However, the items have to be
made from virgin material and it takes time to make them. Much
worse is that enchantment is one of the most expensive uses of
magic. Enchantment IS NOT something you want to do with the
distractions of melee going on and even if successful it would
likely leave the enchanter without much magic for casting in
combat or healing spells."
Kiet nods and replies, "Yes, Z'leyra. Quite true...but from
what the High Elder tells us, there isn't much magic that will
affect these fiends directly, so you don't have much use for it
anyway. And enchanting a blade is only as expensive as you want to
make it. You could enchant it only for greater damage, and not
further enchant it for improving your skill to strike your
opponent. Now, making a 'dedicated' blade, that would be some
cost..."
Kiet continues, "As long as you reserve some of your resources,
your magic would probably suffice. Besides, it isn't always
necessary to make swords...spears are much easier and quicker to
make."
Will agrees to the plan, "I like this idea a lot. As long as
we know a day or an hour in advance of the combat, it could work
very well. If we find a Vong base, enchanting and dedicating
weapons the day before the attack is a great idea."
"I also agree with Z'Leyra. Once the combat begins it will
be too late. Will it be possible to make any weapons on board the
ship? I doubt we will have the resources or time once we land in
Katai."
Will agrees. "I would agree that the idea has merit but
mostly if all of the other possibilities are not available. If
this is the route we go or if it is one of our contingency plans
then I think we should keep it fairly simple such as an enhanced
wolf eye (for those not morally opposed to such an idea). Which
would in effect give you a +5 to all weapon skills for just 6
manna points."
Arawn's raised a brow at mention of this. "+5 to weapon
skills? 6 mana points? I'm not quite sure what you are talking
about. Could you please explain."
Caladan smiles, "maybe he is one of those math scholar folks
from Ticasi. Maybe Z'leyra knows his language?"
Farseeker speaks up, "no. Most metal weapons or armor would
need a forge with fire. Fire and ship...don't mix for obvious
reasons. I'm sure a cooking pot situation could be done but its
risky and dangerous. If it spilt or wind blew and sails get on
fire that could be a abrupt end to our trip. So leather is good
to do for like leather armor. Minor items like a necklace or
bracelet or amulet could be done with a small isolated fire
even a candle in some ways though I suspect exhausting work.
Course working on wooden weapons might work." He beams slyly.
Farseeker looks at Will and wonders what he means by plus 5?
Arawn becomes more serious hearing the topic of weapons and
magic started by Kiet. Arawn piped in, "Though the idea is an
interesting one for those wishing such I am not sure it will work.
Smithing armor and weapons requires a forge and rocking wooden
boats and fiery hot coals from forges are usually a very bad
combination. Once on the road it would also prove difficult, with
heavy forge and anvil, water troughs and such to move about and we
would likely have to remain still as movement would throw off the
work. I think that any weapons should either be taken now or left
behind for procurement via translocational magics when the time is
right."
Farseeker nods and taps his sword sheath, "aye. If these
Vong beasts break my nice sword here I will be upset. You don't
want to see me fighting when I'm upset."
Z'leyra replies "Some items we can get the material for and
can create the items while on board ship. However to create metal
items such as swords or chainmail would require not only an anvil
but a heat source unavailable on board ship - unless you wish to
make it obvious to the crew that we are using magic. Few weapons
we would find useful against the Vong don't require heat in their
creation. Presuming that we get enough hides we can make leather
armor and helms for all, these enchantable to be equal to ordinary
chainmail. We can also make shields to be later enchanted.
Otherwise our options of what to make are limited. Slings and clubs
being the only weapons I can think of offhand that won't need a
forge for part of their production. If we come into possession of
appropriate wolf eyes or other potentially magic materials we can
enhance or enchant those as well."
"Actually, on second thought...given good lumber of the
appropriate type I could make what look like wooden practice
weapons of various types.. then enchant them later. We probably
want a number of actual practice weapons that we can bang up and
have the enchantable ones kept as 'spares'. Even enchanted they
likely won't cut or impale like metal weapons would...but their
impact could break bones and cause massive internal bleeding.
And they (plus the shields and leather armor) could be quickly
destroyed by fire after the Vong are dealt with. Please list what
enchantable wooden weapons you would need when we face the Vong. If
we have samples of the Vong and their shell armor I could even
dedicate the weapons against them."
"If the party could be supplied with an enhanceable hyacinthus
we may be able to clear the next lake used by the Vong of their
taint."
Kiet replies "Enhancable materials are quite rare in the Dark
Lands, as there are so many mages around trying to acquire it.
Most hold closely to what they have. I fear the cost, and
obligation, of taking such from any Dark Lander. I personally
have no desire to stay in these Lands any longer than necessary.
There is much else I would like to explore before being bound to a
place or person here." Kiet even considers Ki'ama as part of that
obligation. Those who might get free gear from him especially
expensive items could lead to oblivations well into the future.
"Of course, you are all free to do what you will. I would not
wish to speak for you on such matters. As far as 'magical' wooden
weapons, I think I'll take my chances with the mundane pointy and
edged steel ones. And as far as armor, I will normally be unarmored
as befits the body servant I am destined to play...but will pack my
leather and ring on one of my donkeys...I have two..."
Arawn approaches Will, "My name is Arawn and it is a pleasure
to meet you. I hope our journey will be a safe and fruitful one.
I am sure your skills will prove valuable. But I have to admit I
am surprised that one from beyond this area would be assisting the
High Elder with this mission, though you would not be the first. I
do not know what drives you, though I hope in time that perhaps we
can share our stories on the journey," he said with an odd but kind
look in his eyes and the smile still on his face.
Later when folks pack, Arawn finds Shu, with a smile, "I thank
you for your assistance on this mission. The High Elder must think
highly of you to offer us the aid of your tracking spells. In truth
I am intrigued by what I have heard. I have wondered, with my own
abilities, if it would be possible to sense the lack of mana, the
void as it were. I would be honored, if you are so inclined, to see
you practice such a skill and learn what knowledge and wisdom you
might have to share."
Shu stops packing food into her saddle bags and turns, she
brushes the dark black hair from her green eyes. When she notices
who is talking she steps a half step back, bumping into the horse.
Her eyes do the oh-he-has-pointed-ears look that so many have
when they first discover a Elf for the first time. Realizing she
is staring she looks down in the humble position many of her
kind be it here, as the party is told, in Katai. Her deference
continues when she speaks. "Kind sir. I am afraid my master has
forbidden me to share the knowledge and demonstration of such
a spell. it is very rare and ancient. He does not wish it to
be shared in case other mages here learn it. That would lower
his station in such things. I am sorry. Excuse me." She turns
back and continues her work.
Kell returns to thought of what Unali said earlier of Lake
Oca and such in Katai. Ha'Kell responds to Unali, whilst thinking
back to Strie'bog's comments at the end of the meeting with Ki'ama,
"Katai is a very large land. Perhaps working together we can narrow
the search for Strie'bog? I still think it likely the Vong have at
least one place to grow their weapons in Katai, unless they only
bring their weapons with them. I have traveled to Katai twice for
trading, so my experience and knowledge is limited. As is my
command of the language." All of this is in Katai, but not the
best and fairly accented.
"I wonder if it is only lakes they require, or if they can grow
their abominations with other kinds of sacred, ancient and magical
locations? Knowing so little about the Vong puts us at a
disadvantage."
Kell turns to Kiet, "Friend Kiet, you've been in Katai as well.
Do you know of any other magical locations that may fit what little
we know of the Vong and their needs to grow their, er, equipment?"
Ha'Kell then waits, and appears deep in thought. Some point
forming in his head. He listens and responds to the conversation,
but will return to this potential idea.
Caladan joins in, "as Elder Ki'ama spoke any place with magic
or magical reference might just be destroyed by Katai. A lake
for example might just be emptied and filled in or something."
Kiet responds, "Most of my time in Katai has been spent on the
coastline only. I have not yet traveled to the interior. I was a
crewmember on ship going from port to port, and then apprenticed in
one of those ports. At least I was able to learn Katai well, and be
able to read and write it as well."
"Imagine what would happen if the Vong tried to usurp a lake
with resident Asrai or Naga! Ah, I would like to meet a Naga some
day. Perhaps if we find a Naga we might seek their aid. One can
always hope for such good fortune."
"Which reminds me...if the Vong do take over a lake, and that
lake is the source of water to a stream or river, they might
poison that stream...and any people, or creatures, dependent on
that water may well like to help us."
Caladan raises an eyebrow, "Naga? Katai seems to have a great
river system from the looks of the map."

[Apris 15th, 1634TH]
[Location: High Elder's domain - Citadel, Dark Lands, Forest]
[Time: 2:45pm]
At the time to leave the party form up just inside the gate
of the Citadel. The party now 15 strong form up. Fremea has
no horse so just stands by. But there are 16 riding animals
that include 2 spare draft donkeys two people have. With a
group of 16 horses and donkey's it is a large group to be
stealthy. Bigger than a squad and larger than most family
groups.
Oby and High Elder Ki'ama approach from his Manor House.
The Citadel has been quiet for some time. To prevent rumors
and other problems the gate was closed for foot traffic for the
last two hours. By now the rumor has been spread Zhou is going
away on a long extended inspection tour with the party to help
out. It may even require going outside the lands to the north,
west and south to explore for border and security issues.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," High Elder Ki'ama starts off, "this
mission is not only vital to me and my people but to yours. What
you do in the next few months may save us or doom us. I suspect
you will save us. Each of you have your own skills to bring to
this mission and each will be needed to fight the enemy. Be
careful and alert. Safe journey friends!"
The gate is opened and the party heads out then turns toward
the north east to head to the coastline. It should be less
dangerous than going through Chaos domains, including Itom's own
domain, to the coastline. Eventually the party exits the barrier
that keeps the domain at constant spring. Temperatures rise
quickly and a steady movement comes about.
Since the donkey is the slowest mount the party goes as
fast as them. This route has no road itself but a clear cut
path in the forest well traveled over the years. Soon just
three hours later the sun begins to sit and the forest darkens.
But the smell of food brings the forward riders onward. Going
further the group emerge into a side clearing off the path and
find a large wagon there. There are two sets of camp cooking
fires already going and a group of four in the area going about.
One man approaches, "good evening friends. High Elder
Ki'ama sent us ahead to prepare for your camp. It looks like
we figured out well where you would end up tonight. Another
such supply wagon is ahead of us and will be waiting tomorrow
night. Tonight and tomorrow you will eat and drink hardy.
Come freshen up and get ready to eat. We will tend to your
riding animals."
Zhou nods and dismounts. He doesn't seem surprised by this
fact but gives his horse to two of the men. Behind the large
food and supply wagon is a small covered wagon and there a
small wash basin big enough for cleaning up. That night Kell
offeres to help cook and they agree though most of it has already
been done.
That night the party talks more of items, cover story and
their plans. But the man was right the food is good. Much
fresh meat from birds, deer, fish, fox, chickens and others.
Drink include wines, ales, water and juices. Other foods are
hot breads, vegetables and side dishes like soups. Ki'ama must
have known that the party will be bored and offset by months
of fish, rations and light meals on ship. So this will be the
big feast nights to store up fat and energy.
As Strie'bog share stories and Raban tells of others that Bards
do best, Shu suddenly screams and stands. As she does a small
furry animal with red eyes and sharp teeth skitters where she
was just sitting. Kell laughs and gets up and then picks up
the beast. He explains it is his pet.
"Pet?" Farseeker asks. "It looks dangerous. What is it?"
"Looks like Cholan's pet." Caladan adds in. "But not the
red eyes. Looks evil."
The small furry animal rests in Kell's arms.
That night the party get to know each other and setup their
tents. The new folks Zhou, Shu and Will stay alone for awhile
still wary of the party. But Kell gets right in and seems to
enjoy himself.
That night no problems occur and a very satisfied and restful
night takes place.
-------------------------
[Apris 16th, 1634TH]
[Location: Dark Lands, Forest, Heading North East]
Morning seems to come quick. For the drinkers like Farseker
and Ben'dar it comes way too early. But the party wakes up to
the smell of hot teas and breads waiting. As the party pack
up breakfast is prepared. Bacon, ham, eggs and other foods are
prepared.
Soon the party departs the wagon as they also mission complete,
pack up and return to the Citadel. That day it is bright and
clear with no clouds. As the party begins to climb in elevation
into the north east hills a haze is seen in some areas. But
otherwise the weather is pleasant.
Eventually the party enter Novasa's Shadow Domain. This
becomes clear when it seems shadows all around increase in
number and quality. Even to the point of forming odd shapes
that might be things or people. But maybe it is just the
forest and the mind playing tricks. Who needs magic to
scare outsides when just stories can do that with a scary
looking forest?
"This place gives me the creeps." Zhou speaks up. "It
is said Novasa's estate is so mired in shadows that one can
walk by it within feet and not even know it is there. Some
say the shadows move and watch you. Some say the estate can
only be seen at certain times of the day. Some say shadows
here can form up and attack you. Personally I think we should
camp tonight with less camp lights. Less light less shadows
to bother us."
Small talk continues as folks get to know each other. Shu
remains quietest of all. But Unali in her ever present nature
to be equal among men gets her to talk to her every so often.
Eventually by nightfall Shu is talking to Unali the most.
Near nightfall the supply wagon is less easy to find than
the first. It seems the smells are less distinctive. Fremea
finally finds it and leads the party to them. There three men
and one woman wait and do the same thing as the night before.
They even offer to wrap food for the ship if needed. Even the
horses are well fed for a few day's worth of food.
"We are I estimate a good ten miles from Novasa's estate and
village. This path will likely be free of folks as most avoid
this domain entirely." Zhou explains.
Ben'dar continues his massive drinking of good quality ale.
He jokes with Farseeker and tells of the glory battles in the
flying castle-island. The worries of the trip seem to be distant
for him. His only concern is for Tef'wo who will be in a hold
for months.
Caladan eats heavy but drinks lightly. He explains that he
can sleep some of the horses if they panic or need it to prevent
hunger and fatigue for days. Caladan gets to know Kell's pet
since it reminds him a bit of his own Firesnake he had to
leave behind in Marentia.
Chion sits quiet as usual and wonders about the trip. Sure
he could have teleported folks by now into Katai. But do they
have magic to detect such powerful group teleports? He hasn't
offered such a thing since he initially put it up in the meeting.
So it looks like the party figured he didn't want to teleport
back and forth. Chion also wonders about the lands. It has
been some time since he has been in and around Choshai and Katai.
Farseeker seems to notice Kiet's lack of weapon training and
gives the small acrobat some demonstrations of his large great
sword. "A real weapon not like most pig stickers. But your
ropes seem good as well."
Fremea sits with the party for hours but also spends time
high in a tree with Corona. Now that she knows his language
both can communicate. But Z'leyra notices this and some
hint of jealously comes to her. She also flies around some
of the night exploring. She knows it might not be for months
before she can fly again. Being confined to human clothing
will be hard for her.
Kell is like a fishing lure, bobbing up and down going back
and forth between people. His people skills clearly show to
the party and his eagerness to learn of each person and spend
time with each. He spends time with Ben'dar telling of Ba'ru
and Zen'dan relations.
Raban sits and takes a break from story telling. He glances
at the party and realizes a new female is among the party.
Though she isn't great looking. Z'leyra and Unali look better
and equally. But Shu is far less appealing. Maybe with some
makeup she might improve. She still has that natural look to
her age and will have to grow into her beauty. Raban decides
Shu will need the most protection. The others can take care
of themselves.
Strie'bog sits and plays a few rounds of music and songs.
But later he starts to miss his own pet back in his home. For
some reason he felt he shouldn't bring it along. Good reason
as rumors seem to say Katai dogs are rare. Seems they go
missing and sometimes end up on dinner plates.
Shu sits quietly still wary of the party. Occasionally she
steals glances at the handsome giant but quickly turns away
when he looks over. She also stares at others like Arawn and
Fremea for the not-used-to obvious reasons.
Unali answers questions about Katai during the night. But
later as the night grows on she wonders about her home city
and family in Katai.
Z'leyra spends time with Kiet arguing over the fine points
of item making and what magic to take and leave.
Zhou starts to consider more details of the cover story.
He explains the details can be worked out on ship and there
isn't a rush for it now. Some will have to be figured out
for positions but hopefully the party will be ready by
land fall in Katai. Zhou also spends time answering questions
and hearing comments on Katai. Though his expertise in the
land isn't as extensive as Unali. In fact it is a bit more
biased as a "hostile" territory. More talk of dangers and
taboos and the like.
That night no problems occur. No shadows scare the party
or attack.
-------------------------
[Apris 17th, 1634TH]
[Location: Novasa's Shadow Domain Dark Lands, Forest, Heading NE]
Breakfast is again served and party breaks camp. It seems
the shadows grow longer and more elaborate as the party climbs
high into the hills. Hours later the party has to climb one
or two mountains on the path to the coast. Fremea as always
with Corona flies above tree line guiding and warning of
troubles. But no trouble comes. At one point a village is
spotted by Fremea a few miles in the south but it is avoided.
Shortly before noon salty air is detected and the call of
the ocean in the east and north-east. Soon the party climbs
to the top of a forested mountain and look down to discover the
Eastern Ocean. Fremea shows them a small fishing like area in
the distance and the party heads that way. But here the path
continues north not down the slope. It is good the party did
not get a wagon as the climb down is a bit hard but not
impossible.
From the top of the mountain the village is not seen but
from Fremea's angle in the air it is. Soon the mountain levels
out to forest and breaks out into a large rocky cliffside
beach area. But the party doesn't find a sleepy fishing village
but more a couple of buildings. A large wooden dock is seen
going out into the ocean a bit. At the end of the dock some
distance away is a large merchant ship with square sails.
Along the dock are smaller fishing boats, rowboats and a couple
of sailing boats. The party is depressed to see only one merchant
ship and wonders if they choose well.
As the party enters the "town" at least four buildings are
seen. A couple of men are walking about but they ignore the
party. Zhou dismounts and gets the attention of one fisher
returning from the dock.
"We come from the Citadel." Zhou speaks up. But before he
continues the man points to the small brown squat building
and walks on.
Soon those who enter the building discover it to be a small
tavern. It is quiet but there are about 25 people in here.
A bartender stands behind the bar and looks the party over.
As others explore the village the other buildings seem to be
a small Inn, warehouse and a office of sorts. Inside the
tavern a man approaches Zhou.
"Let's step outside where we can talk. It is a bit loud
in here." He waves to two others and they join the party
outside.
"I am Cho Morosaki, the high Elder sent me to prepare this
trip. Sadly, only one merchant ship is here today and likely for
several days. There was another one but it left yesterday.
The Captain did not want to have passengers since he was
going to pick up lumber in Choshai for Lemasa and that would
endanger passengers. This time of year Novsa's estate and
villages get ships. In fact this is the first week they tend
to come so your in luck. They come maybe a ship every two
or three weeks up until late summer. These two are the ship's
crew. This is Captain Sung Lesai and First Mate Wa-son Non."
Cho looks just like Zhou and the majority of all Katai.
But the sailors show their occupation. Scars, muscles and
their bearing show their strength. Sung stands 6 foot tall
and about 180 pounds. he wears typical sailor clothing that
Chion has been seen in. He has a simple silver ring on one
finger and a snake skin belt that looks exceptional. He looks
in his mid 30s with typical black hair for this region. His
blue eyes shine at the party. Wa-son stands shorter at 5 foot
7 and maybe 170 pounds. He looks in his mid-20s and wears
a thick mustache with a scar on his left cheek and one running
down the length of his right hand. He stands with fingers in
his belt. Both sailors have daggers and the captain a sword.
"My ship isn't the best out there. But she'll do just fine.
The Blue Moon is her name. She is 72 feet long and can do about
80 tons of cargo easy. Cho said the party would be large so
we unloaded our cargo Novasa wanted yesterday. She is empty
now and ready for boarding. She can handle 18 horses." He
quickly does a count. "This will be a close call. But should
all fit in the hold. We should have room for everyone but
if not tents can be put on deck."
"Rules are as follows. The crew will not be responsible
for your animals. You will take care of them. That animal."
He points to the Daeta A'miri in Kell's lap. "Will have to
be kept at bay. It looks...mischievous. It could cause
problems. We don't want it killed. You will have to clean
up and feed the animals. We have tools but you should take
turns doing so. We have a crew of only 10 deck hands but
each have their duties. If some are free of chores or duty
they can help if coins are given. Rule two. Obey me and
the crew. Our word is law on ship. If we say move or do
something do it. Don't argue. Those of you with ship skills
will be good but those who will be throwing up should get out
of our way. Rule three. During storms if the ship takes
damage and we need to abandon ship the animals will be forfeit
I'm sad to say. We will board the ship's boat and go to
shore. If we are able to get to shore we can load them off
if able to. Otherwise it will be a good cruise. They might
find that red eye beast tasteful in Katai."
"I am aware you are magic users and I have no problem with
that. Magic we do not fear like those in Katai. If we did
we would not be here. We trade regularly with this domain
and the others down shore. If you cast magic though be
careful. Lightning a candle with some spell could cause fire
so use caution. use common sense. Fire is strictly our worst
enemy on ship. Storms second. Some cabins will be cramped
but it is that way to give room to the hold and other areas.
We specially built this ship some five years ago. We are
housed out of Lemasa and travel all up the coast as far as
the Jungles in the south west of Katai to up here. We fly the
Lemasan flag but are known in various ports of call."
He looks over at Fremea and Arawn to get a look at them.
He shrugs. "I've seen many things and don't care who or what
you are as long as I'm paid and you don't harm my ship. Looks
like this party shouldn't be a problem except for that beast
with red eyes. Wa-son will direct you aboard."
Wa-son steps forward. "The dock is old but I understand
enhanced with magic to hold it up. But still lead the horses
single file down the dock but not mounted. We have a ramp to
take the horses below deck. There you can remove gear and we
can store them elsewhere. The Donkey's could be a problem.
Are they really needed? They tend to be rather disgruntled."
Cho speaks up, "If you want some food and drink you can
use the tavern. Its mainly for fisher-folk. So they have
a limited supply of normal foods and drink. This is the
biggest port for a good ten or twenty miles."
Zhou grabs a square sized talisman from his saddle bags.
He approaches the captain and presents it. "This was given
to me on loan by the High Elder. It will improve our travel
speed greatly by doubling our speed or more. Shu has been
instructed how to mount it and activate it."
The Captain stares at the object not out of fear but confusion.
"Will it hurt the ship? Most ships can't handle speeds over 20
knots safely."
"No." Zhou replies. "The magic only improves the water speed
it somehow protects the ship from speed damage."
The Captain nods and agrees to it.
The animals are loaded. Z'leyra talks to the animals though
she realizes she doesn't speak Donkey. At least she can calm
and explain to the horses what will happen. Caladan says if the
Donkey's act up he can sleep them.
Shu mounts the talisman in the rear of the ship. The captain
was right. Given a area 8 foot by 4 for each horse to walk around
it might fit 18 good in the hold. Maybe 25 but cramped. The
hold is fairly big for normal cargo but is empty now.
Wa-son stops Raban. "Sir your height will be a problem
below. You will have to duck down. You might need to sleep
up here on deck if that is possible? The decks below are only
seven feet high and in some places even shorter due to the
framework. You can enter below just keep your head low."
It takes almost three hours for the ship to get settled in.
Horses unpacked, rooms selected and gear stored away. Tour
of the ship is made. Many of the crew, at least half, seem to
be in the tavern drinking. Eventually near 3pm or so the ship
is prepared to set sail for the two thousand mile trip.
The magic talisman is activated and a burst of speed is given
with high magical friendly current. For the rest of the day
and night the trip is made with Low Wind speed but a distance
of 27 miles is made on the first day. It is clear the magical
talisman will give 24 miles a day just by its power not including
speed by the wind. With the device it could improve the
travel time in half.
-------------------------
[Apris 18th, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, East of Dark Lands]
This day the winds are good and the ship will make 39 miles.
Near lunch time the crow's nest reports a ship in the distance.
With spyglass in hand for Fremea, Unali and the crew it is
seen to be a Dark Lands patrol ship. It looks armed. Though
the merchant ship isn't armed. It flies the Dark Lands flag
with a second flag noting a Chaos domain but Zhou isn't sure
which one.
But with the speed the ship is moving the Blue Moon easily
out sails the patrol ship. The patrol ship when near does
avoid the merchant ship. It seems a confrontation is not in
the plans for this day. But it isn't clear who owned the
ship and what they would have done if the ship didn't outrun
them.
By midnight the ship has gone 66 miles south of the port.

Next Update...Friday....
GM: Slight Roster changes. For new players the First column
is reminder what folks have R? Riding Horse 1-4, W? is
Warhorse 1-4 and Do is Donkey. Two players have spare
Draft donkeys Kell and Kiet. Z'leyra didn't bring her
Draft horse this time. Caladan changes from R1 to R4
during his rest on the plains. This is a total of 16
mounts for the party. Slowest being the Donkey I believe.
GM: I have made Zhou's file. So to flesh him out more than I
have done in the past. Over the sea trip you'll learn much
of these details. He isn't physically fit compared to
the fighters. He isn't that smart or even reasonable looking
in terms of appearance. His weak link is his agility which
is clearly on the low side. Zhou holds the station of Count
in the Dark Lands. But outside holds no real station. He
is NOT a magic user but mostly a aide. He is known to be
a skilled tailor though. He is in his late 30s, stands rather
tall for most Katai at 6 foot 4. But Katai nobles are bred
tall due to their need to tower over the peasants. So it
won't be a problem. He weighs close to 200 pounds for his
frame makes him a bit on the heavy side. He is skilled in
story telling and rhetoric. He only uses the Dagger in
combat but admits to not been in a real fight. His black
hair and brown eyes make him not so exceptional. He tends
to also dress in rich silks even at the point of sweating
on deck while others are comfortable. He often wears a
blue cape that goes to his knees. He has demonstrated
that he can use his cape in a fight as some might do.
GM: Two updates to game site. Bottom of page. Ship info and
deck plans. Its for reference and in case combat may
happen. Its gee whiz info so view when you want. The
other is languages. I made a file that should be complete.
But keep in mind this only shows what has been public.
If you haven't mentioned it, then its not listed. There
are plenty of open slots [80] to pick up new languages.
Let me know! Three other links updated on site. Those
are listed with new Dates for 5/13.
GM: Unali has said it is ok for her to be temporary mission leader.
Kiet pretty much put this up and no one has argued against it.
She will be able to decide certain minor things quickly rather
than taking votes and the like. With this large a group we
have too many chiefs and few indians. :) So it is a good
idea for just this adventure. If there is a problem with
this let me know. In fact this large a group might be
a problem for everyone getting action. I normally try to give
things for everyone to do. But in certain situations like in
port it might be hard for ALL characters to do something. So
it is possible for some to do nothing. But I'll try to
involve everyone. Sorry in advance :)
GM: Raban - Did you want the Mana Sensing, Reading and Insight
results posted here? I wasn't sure. Arawn I believed
offered Reading and Insight at Max. I did report the Sensing
from Fremea and Arawn above. Also Fremea is Fremea not
Frema :) you forget teh second "e" unless I have it wrong.
GM: Z'leyra changed her mind about staying. Arawn are you staying
behind?
GM: Magic Item info
If not supplied will assume all items are taken.
Ben'dar - Done. Caladan - Done.
Farseeker - Done. Kiet - Done.
Chion - Done. Fremea - Done.
Kell - Need Unali - Done
Arawn - Need Raban - Need
Strie'bog - Need Will - Need
Z'leyra - Need
Deadline: May 30, our time.
Completed: 6 Need: 7
GM: IBT actions - If none posted will assume no actions.
[30 Days IBT time on ship]
Ben'dar - Completed Unali - Completed.
Caladan - Completed Farseeker - Completed
Kiet - Have. Kell - Have.
Arawn - Need Chion - Need
Strie'bog - Need Will - Need
Z'leyra - Need
Raban - Seaman - 30 days?
Fremea - Have but need to clarify
Deadline: May 30 our time.
Completed: 4 Need: 9
GM: If still unsure on IBT stuff. See the link on the game site.
Basically it boils down to 2 lines. X Skill for Y days.
For magic its A spell for EL B and C failure rules (repeat,
etc. or mana limits). With day D..Day E for each line.
That's it. :) Ben'dar had the most simple IBT action
with Scimitar for 30 days. One line. :) If your unsure
a skill can be learned post it anyways in your plans. Most
folks know a lot. If its not doable I'll come back to you
later to tell you when I process it. Also when your figuring
out items to leave (magic wise). Don't forget regular
stuff as well. Don't forget money. Some are rich and may
not want to carry it all?
GM: Big enough update for now. Sorry for delay. Might I suggest
if you read emails let them pile up for the day and reply
to all game stuff for that day then? Might help me rather
than doing one post per reply every hour. :) Just a suggestion.
Problem with this is it might lose some material. So its
only a suggestion not required.
GM: One last detail. It will cost 528 CC per person. For food
it will be 2 CC for a 2 FP meal. So if you eat more then
it will cost more. But the Captain will give a break and
just charge 2 CC per male for the amount of food you want.
So a total of 686 CC per person. For only 6 gold for
almost 3 thousand miles that's still pretty good. Now if
you want to pay for it let me know. Some like Farseeker
can help out since they are well off or loan money. If
you want the High Elder to pay for it. He can but keep
in mind if you let him pay for some things there is
still that future strings attached. :) Just might not trust
that. So its up to you. So captain sees to see about
90 gold from this trip. Not so bad. Captain will not
charge for the horses. The Captain plans to stop when
possible in fishing villages or at beaches if deep enough
to let horses out to stretch on shore and eat.
GM: No cliff hanger here. Next update I will continue the
sailing information and get to the first big encounter that
needs interaction. This update is big enough for now.
