[Recap]
From Raban: [Re: IBT]
<IBT: Seaman enough to complete it. Any skill Fremea wanted
training in as its pay back for spell training. Finish with Bow.
I think there were other requests so may need to adjust.
<Magic: As stated leave all magic behind except the one that
so far as failed detection. That one may go dependent on other
tests. <Raban gave permission for all tests for magic items and
innates
<Nonmagic: What gear Raban has left may be of use later, but it
may need adjusting for the role as some items may not fit.
<How much detail do you wish put into that? Raban can make his
new outfits or I think you offered someone else to do so. I
think the role was to be personal bodyguard of a noble with
appropriate non ugly appearance. Thus one presentable in 'court'
which may need a few things made pretty enough. New decorative
gauntlets is likely one of the items needed as his current non
magical ones likely show too much wear.
Quality leather shirt and pants may be fine? May need a nobles
crest? So planning all this needs feedback from those who know
Katai and our new nobles.
<Ship: Raban will pay his way (I think he has enough)
<Insight at max, not resisted by Fremea. Assuming it works he
will tell her what he saw. He will of course not resist her
tests on him.>
<If I missed anyones interactions with Raban please remind me so
I can respond if needed. <Arawn, I think, was going to try mana
reading or other spell on Raban as well? I see he did try mana
sensing.
GM: Ack. Glad we could cover this in email. :) I will do later
a cover story Role/Update likely in itself eventually. To
cover Roles and clothing.
From Strie'bog: [Re: Actions]
Before boarding, Strie'bog approaches Captain Sung Lesai,...
IBT Actions:
Learn Katai (assuming instruction and support of the amulet, I
think it is about 8 days) -Wisdom Spell- Strie'bog still feels
it is important to understand some of the magical features of
the Katai lands, and since the maps are not very detailed, he
will change what he first wanted to ask. As the Katai fear
magic, he doesn't want to cast this once they land. He will
petition the gods with this request: "Grant me the understanding
of the magical landscape of the Katai Lands." -Knowledge Spell-
He will supplement this knowledge with the casting of a knowledge
spell.
I don't know how much time these two things will take. If he has
any extra time, he will continue to learn and improve the Katai
language.
GM: Ack. Email sent.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
New stuff....
Kiet says, "Master Zhao, I do not believe anybody expected...
GM: Ack.
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
Ha'Kell chimes in, "I can teach you both shield and tulwar....
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
As Raban has accepted Insight/Mana Reading Arawn will do so at
max EL. Ideally he'd do this on the same night he did the Mana
Sensing ( during the journey from the Citadel). Kell seems to
have expressed interest so Arawn will Mana Sense. Does Kell want
a Mana Reading and Insight as well?
OOC: He'll use Sensory Powers at EL 3 along with the Sidh Tongue
to see if he can make out details of the ship and crew.
GM: Ack. Is that Sight? Hearing? Want to listen to what they
are saying? :) Its close enough a simple normal spyglass
can tell details. The ship has nothing of exception. It
looks like any other ship with any other crew.

[New Stuff]
[Apris 15th, 1634TH]
[Time: 12:01pm - Before party departs after meeting...]
Will asks Raban about him making a bow.
Raban thinks for a moment, "Will, I expect I will have some
time to work further on my bow, so teaching you should be possible.
I am unsure if I will have time to learn much beyond Seamanship,
is line drawing easy to learn?"
Raban replies later to Fremea on a scan. Later in a more
private location, Raban concentrates for a moment, "Miryan give
me the ability to learn more about a person and their magical
abilities."
Kell replies to Raban, "Mongo would be a good fit," grinning
broadly Ha'Kell brings up this Mongo character again. He always
gets a big smile thinking of Mongo. "You can tailor your own
personal Mongo."
Kell would like to be scanned as well, to see what shows and
how "bright" he is.
Kiet replies to Zhou on him having to fight, "Master Zhao, I
do not believe anybody expected you to fight or engage the Vong. I
only meant that, for your safety, and with Unali's permission, that
I be assigned as your bodyguard once we get within reach of the
Vong. I will, after all, be your servant for the journey, why
not the dual role? If you are asked why a Lemasan servant instead
of a Katai one, I can always provide the questioner with my
deadliest stare while you suggest to them that I have 'other
qualities" you find useful on occasion."
Unali looks over at Zhou, "Husband, you cannot expect your body
servant to fight for you and stay behind yourself. It's not like
normal days, where you can hire some secret society to do the job
for you. Luckily, Farseeker here can teach you how to handle a
sword while we are under way." She is smiling slightly after this.
Zhou's shoulders slump as he glances at Unali. "But...he..
I...maybe...we will have to see about the situation." He glances
back to Farseeker and then Kiet. For a split second he isn't
sure if it is a joke or not.
Zhou stands up straight and tall nodding back to Kiet. "Yes.
I will be honored. In fact many nobles have a public and a private
bodyguard. It is to their paranoid state of mind. A simple
butler or servant might be a more valuable bodyguard than one with
full weapons and armors standing at his side. So that will work
out." He turns to his horse and grabs his first bag. He then
turns back and hands it to Kiet. "Now be kind and get my bags
on board won't you." Then he storms off to talk to Cho about
some things. He glances back briefly and smiles. It seems
he is getting into the role already.
[Time: 7:15pm - Campsite in forest day of meeting]
As others finish up eating and relax, some notice Fremea
some distance away. She has setup a clear area devoid of much
plant growth and setup a dead log as target practice. For
about 20 minutes she is seen using her Fire Arrow spell. As
arrows hit the log they impact and burst into flames. She does
about 14 or so arrows tonight. The dead log doesn't burn much
as the fire was contained. After her spell practice she is
missed for awhile as she explores the nearby forest in the
dark.
-------------------------
[Apris 16th, 1634TH]
[Location: Dark Lands, Forest, Heading North East]
Farseeker mentions Tulwars and such to Kiet's training.
Ha'Kell chimes in, "I can teach you both shield and tulwar.
I use those along with my favorite spears."
[Time: 7:20pm - Second campsite near Novasa's Domain]
Tonight Fremea is also seen doing more Fire Arrow practice with
a dozen or so more arrows. Later again she is seen flying off
to explore the nearby forest.
-------------------------
[Apris 17th, 1634TH]
[Location: Novasa's Shadow Domain Dark Lands, Forest, Heading NE]
[Time: 12:10pm - Coastline Port]
Before boarding, Strie'bog approaches Captain Sung Lesai, and
in Lemasan says: "Captain, are all of your crew Lemasian?" Assuming
the captain's questioning look, Strie'bog continues, "my father was
a Lemasan priest who wandered the world on mission. I know some
Lemasan songs and stories, but would love to know more. You are
the first of my father's people I have met."
The Captain himself almost looks like Chion. He is in his late
30s and stands 6 foot 4. But his body frame is large for Katai and
for many sailors is typical at a muscular 240 odd pounds. Most
of that is arm and leg muscles after a decade or more of climbing
up and down rigging.
Caladan taps Strie'bog on the shoulder, "don't forget Kiet.
He is also from the island."
The captain stares at the bard briefly, "most are from the
Lemasa yes. But some are from Katai, Choshai and a few other
nearby nations. You are free to talk to them and they will be
glad to talk of their homes and past. Just as long as they
have performed their daily chores and duties. You aren't one
of those priest fellows as well? Many are from the east side
of the island...Dawanist I believe they are called? I don't
care if you are just don't spread the word too much in Katai
as only their leader is the state religion."
Strie'bog watches in awe of the payment for passage, and all
the preparations. He will mention to Ben'dar and Z'leyra, "I've
never seen anything like this. The largest ship I've ever seen
was the river boat we took." Thinking back on what the captain
said, "is it common for people to get sick on these ships?"
Farseeker laughs, "it is indeed common. I suspect there are
several buckets on board ready for use. Some say don't stare at
the horizon some the waves. But to each it is different. How
strong you might be and determined. Damon was given the ship we
captured on the Sea of Tears. It is slightly larger from what I
can tell. But wait till you return to Marentia you will see many
more ships of various sizes."
As the payment is made to the Captain, Kell approaches Ben'dar.
He is curious why the disgruntled growl about losing a simple
horse to the sea? "Ben'Dar, why are you so upset possibly loosing
Tef'wo? He is a marvelous steed, and I hope it does not happen,
for his sake and yours. If there is anything I can do please tell
me."
As Z'leyra finishes up her coin transaction Kell thanks Z'leyra
and give her a bow and a dazzling smile, "Thank you lady Z'Leyra.
If there is anything I can do for you I would do it."
As the party made preparations to board Arawn gave an odd look
when discussion turned to travel expenses. Before he said anything
Z'leyra had stepped up to take care of payment but the situation
bothered him and he gave Ben'dar an agreeable look when the
barbarian made his comment, despite Farseeker's words.
"I," Arawn begins, "agree with Ben'dar, Farseeker. We were
never in the High Elder's debt. He is in ours. We did not ask to
come to the Dark Lands, he asked for help. We helped, without
asking for pay. As for the items in the castle, they were never
the High Elder's to give. They were Lymrian property on Lymrian
lands, the High Elder's ring aside. Though I agree with you that
this mission is important and I do not ask for reward to accept
the quest I do find it in bad taste for a ruler of his power to
ask us to accomplish two missions without offering to take care of
travel expenses of such a nature as this. Whatever favor we may
garner with him I think it bad form. Whatever the case it will not
stop me from doing what must be done," he said before turning to
Z'leyra, "Thank you for your aid and I will do what I can to repay
you in the future."
Despite his words Arawn's voice did not hold any anger or
annoyance at the situation nor to the High Elder. He had seen such
before but he felt strongly on such an issue as it seemed rude.
Likely the High Elder would offer greater in return if the party
should accomplish the mission but if not Arawn would not care nor
hold it against Ki'ama.
Caladan leans on his staff and smiles. "Actually to be honest
no one asked the party for a reward for the flying castle. I
may be wrong but I did ask around. I'm sure he was prepared to
reward and I understand most got almost 100 gold from the castle
so to me that's quite a reward. Even though I got not one coin
from it. He could have asked for it all or simply have seized
it. That book he mentioned in the meeting you have for example
was the only thing he felt he should keep for safety of the
middle world. I've seen what rulers can do with favors. I know
there is no free lunch. Damon got a free merchant ship like that
one there." He points to the Blue Moon. "But I have no doubt if
there was war or need, King Maros might ask nicely to use the
ship. Could Damon refuse a request from King Maros? I doubt it.
Not after such a reward and use of it for so long. So rulers
when they need something can call in even the simplest rewards.
I'm sure the High Elder could have paid it fully and likely
would have if no one here could afford it. But that is one
side of the book in his favor. Something he can call back. 'I
did pay for that trip...now I could use a favor..' That sort of
thing. Even in a land of barter like my home if a Shaman loans
a horse to a warrior the shaman has been known to recruit the
warrior for labor at times. It is human nature a Elf like yourself
may not quite understand." He smiles faintly but showing no clear
sign of offense.

[Apris 17th, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, Heading S/SE]
[Time: 4:15pm]
Once aboard ship Arawn took in the scent of the fresh salty
air. He had always loved the ocean, dreaming of what lay hidden
beneath the waves. When Arawn was able to find some time to speak
with the captain he discussed the food situation and other
business.
"I wish I had know of the food situation in advance as I might
have been able to help. My people prefer to travel light and favor
easily portable but nourishing rations. Depending on how much time
we spend in port restocking I may be able to assist with extra
stores by pulling the benefits of the food and storing it in a
more easily transported form. Aside from that, if it is not a
problem, it has been a while since I have had a chance to travel
at sea. I was trained to read the stars and navigate by land and
sea so would look for the opportunity to assist along the way if
you are willing."
The Captain nods, "certainly. But don't worry about the food.
like I said earlier fishing alone will feed most of us. We have
plenty of rations. The main issue will be the horses. They will
have to be walked and graze ashore. There are only a few limited
deep water docks so we will have to stop many times along the
way. It won't affect our overall time but they will need the
exercise and food."
-------------------------
[Apris 17th, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, Heading S/SE]
[Time: 6:03pm]
Kell finds himself once again near the port side rails looking
at the fast moving waves. Green faced, shaken and dehydrated he
is still getting his sea legs. Arawn approaches and looks the
half-Elf over and gives him a wet cloth to wipe his face after
losing his mug full of ale.
"You should adapt in time." Arawn says kindly.
Leaning against the railing the Alfar cast his gaze to the
horizon, a light dancing in his eyes and a shadow of a smile
lingering on his face. As the sun dips the oranges and reds shine
on the Alfar's back in a random pattern.
"I," Arawn continues, "miss this, the ocean. Reminds me of
home, parts of it at least. But this is a new world to me and
exciting for the surprises and adventures it offers. Still, at
some point I would like to return home, for a while at least."
He shifted a bit to look back at Kell, looking at him in
silence for a moment before continuing. "You had mentioned your
father earlier. I'll do what I can to help you but, if you are up
to it, would you care to tell me a bit more about the situation?"
Kell wipes his face and is distracted briefly aft where Zhou
has fallen on his rear and some of the crew are laughing. It
is something about Zhou losing his fishing pole to a small fish
and not being strong enough to hold it?
-------------------------
[Apris 18th, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, East of Dark Lands]
After the Chaos patrol ship leaves the area. Once Caladan
and Kiet finish talking.
Puzzled, Kell asks, "Who is the Her you mention? The way
you said Her makes me think she is not the average woman." He
asks his question to Kiet.
Speaking to the others on deck at the time, after seeing the
ship and thinking about it for some time, "Will the Chaos domain
ships be a problem? Have the chaos domain forces been a large
problem in the past? I will contribute what I can, likely in this
case it will be through...." Stopping he dashes the edge of
the ship and hangs his head over the side. The others notice it
is at the same time as some larger waves and laugh a bit at Kell.
They see him recover and come back over. "Oceans, who thought
of oceans! Whoever it is should be, well... These waves... And
not in a storm. There better not be any big storms!" Ha'Kell is
definitely green after coming back from the edge. Although less
green than the first day.
Taking a few deep breaths and brushing his near black hair
from his blue eyes Ha'Kell resumes, "If the forces of chaos want a
fight they can start it. We will finish it." With force he ends
that statement. Kell also looks the ship over for defenses, and
discusses this with whoever else cares to discuss it.
The captain shakes his head, "no. They have never been a real
problem. They after all trade with us as well. They just have
to ensure their own security. We will be well out of the Dark
Lands border within a day at most two. By the time they could
get any form of offense gathered we'll be well away."
-------------------------
[Apris 19th, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, East of Dark Lands]
The weather today is calm and clear. Temperatures are in the
mid 60s most of the day. But the speed of the magic helps with
those wind temperatures. Today the winds are good and the
distance the ship goes is 35 miles.
-------------------------
[Apris 20th, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, East of Dark Lands]
As with the previous day it is clear and no weather today.
The temperature is higher in the mid 70s. More good winds aid
the ship today and it makes 36 miles by midnight.
Near midnight Arawn and Fremea are on deck. The ship allows
them their nature night state of being up. Being on land and in
the sun all day is tiring for some Sidh. But they do it for
the party. Here on board with the ease of days both Sidh can
balance the day to their normal Sidh state. By now most of the
party is asleep. The first mate takes a final reading from the
nearby stars and maps and assigns a crewman to steer in one
course. The First mate spots Arawn and says hello.
"In an hour or so we should be leaving the shoreline of the
Dark Lands. Fear of the Chaos wizards will be little from now
on. Tomorrow we'll be passing the Kll'maun hills and territory.
Once we pass that it will be Choshai for the rest of the trip. There
we will stop at certain points and rest the horses since they have
not gotten out in a few days. I'm sure they are restless." The
navigator stares at the dark speeding coastline. "Well I am off
to my cabin. Good night."
-------------------------
[Apris 21st, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, Heading S/SE]
The clear skies soon fade into a full day of overcast.
Off and on it drizzles all day and is cool at mid 60s temperature
wise. Today the winds aren't great and only average and the
ship only makes it 32 miles.
-------------------------
[Apris 22nd, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, Heading S/SE]
Overcast skies continue and no stars can even be seen at night
last night or tonight. Temperatures climb into the low 70s but
it is still gray skies all day.
As party members practice weapon skills or relax on deck the
normal chatter is broken a little after 2pm. A yell from the
crow's nest perks the party up. The sailor announces "whirlpool
dead ahead". A rare event but they do occur in the water usually
when local landslides and other undersea strangeness occurs.
Some of the party rush forward to the front along with the captain.
In the distance and about 500 feet or so away is a swirling
mass of bubbles. The captain whirls around and issues a order to
move to port. At this distance and the magic speed enhancement
of the ship he knows he only has 5-7 seconds before the ship
hits the whirlpool. But also at this speed almost 88 feet per
second in some winds the ship is dangerous to turn fast. So
the First mate has to turn slowly. Seconds pass and before
the party can react the ship hits the edge of the right side
of the whirlpool.
The ship rocks suddenly back and forth as if caught in
a strong current that can't decide where to go. Some are
thrown off balance and some things slide on deck. But the
sheer size of the ship actually saves the ship. The 22 foot
whirlpool would easily suck in and destroy a rowboat. But
for a 72 foot ship it does little but cause the ship
confusion and wood strain. Within a second or two the
rocking stops and the ship passes over the whirlpool.
The party gives a sigh of relief. Some head back to watch
the whirlpool as it is a rare event. Caladan notices Kell
holding his stomach and bends over to grab a bucket. "Need
this?" He grins as Kell rushes to the side of the ship again.
Today the winds are low and the ship moves only a distance
of 26 miles including the 24 just for the magic. So the
winds are virtually useless.
-------------------------
[Apris 23rd, 1634TH]
[Location: Eastern Ocean, Heading S/SE]
Overcast finally breaks into just cloudy skies. The
temperature remains steady in the mid 70s. After a week of
travel by midnight tonight the ship has made 229 miles. Today
the winds are average and the ship makes 34 miles by midnight.
A bit after 7pm a storm is seen in the distance. The captain
estimates it has higher winds than what the ship has gotten all
day. He and his crew use their skills to avoid the storm and the
ship takes no damage from the moderate storm.
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Friday...
GM: Raban - The insight on Fremea you still didn't let me know
if it was for public view or email only? Could've done it
via private email away from party but I need to ask in
case Fremea doesn't want things given out. Same thing for
Arawn but he hasn't posted in awhile. Can't do it till get
those details. Kell same thing. Want results public or
private and who do you want to be scanned by? For the future
any such things like this let me know if private or public.
Going forward will assume public and will put it all here
for all to see. :) Strie'bog you wanted the Balaika sensed
but do you want it public or private between 2 people? A
bit confusing here. So let's see Fremea and Arawn did Mana
sensing on Raban results already posted. Now Arawn will
do Mana Reading/Insight Max el on Raban. And Arawn will
Mana sense and maybe Insight Kell? I still need to know
if the non sensing results will be private or public and
who should see it. After this update these type of things
I will just assume its public revealing possible secrets and
the like. :) Remind me of what your doing in case I forget
some of the details above. So Raban and Kell have to
answer this section. Where to email or public. Also for
those scanning how much do you do? Just standing back 4-5
feet or do you get up like a dog and sniff the person? :)
GM: Don't forget the languages file.
GM: Still working on IBTs. Minor update for now. Will do more
on Friday. But a week has passed. There will be a minor
encounter next time. I just have to flesh it out and figure
out if its hostile or not. At this point can't update site.
Will do so when I can.
GM: By now you have seen my posting style. It is important to
read the block headers [Date..location..time]. You would
be surprised how many ignore those and get confused later.
It is there to keep scenes and things in place.
GM: IBT clarification - Some have gotten the impression that
teaching and learning conflict. I just want to say it
doesn't. When you teach stuff it means nothing to me
as far as IBT results. Of course there might be the rare
skill like teaching a person to do a all-day thing might
conflict. But those skills are few. Most like say a
combat skill might only need 4-5 hours day. When on ship
you might have 10 good hours of free time there is plenty
of time. Also with most skills there are many who can teach
so that doubles up on teaching the same thing. So don't
worry in terms of teaching unless you just want to role play
that aspect. Its basically skills and magic. How many days
and what levels.
GM: Magic/Normal Items to leave info
If not supplied will assume all items are taken.
