[Recap]
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
[Those darn dwarves! They are a pain, aren't they?]
Kell stands up as the Alfar is thinking this, and he appears to
turn slightly greenish-brownish. Moaning loudly, "Open me up.
Uuunnn... Let me do it for you!" The half-elf rips the wrapping
off his arm and it is festering but also healing in a sickening
way. With the hand that shouldn't work this well, he rips his
own body open, opening himself for Arawn. "Is that better? IS
IT??" As his speech starts to slur Kell starts to emit a
distinctive odor of rotting flesh, "Must consume..." He rushes
the tall Alfar in complete surprise and bites his neck, red
spraying everywhere as Arawn falls dead and the stinking Kell
lunges toward the brains....
Gasping for air, Kell wakes in the middle of night from the
nightmare. Where did that come from? Kell isn't given to
nightmares. Looking down his arm is safely wrapped and
slightly achey.
After the discussion and learning what happened with the...
If it is agreed Kell asks, "Master Tiehul, do you know any safe
inns where we could spend the night that are close?"
GM: Ack. Technically Arawn never voiced the thought of being
curious on Kell's anatomy. So the dream was a great scene
but Kell wouldn't know it so can't really put it into the
update below. Though I can insert something below.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn acknowledges Tiehul's information regarding the libraries
with a nod and a quiet smile.

If Tiehul approves of the use of Mana Shield to mask a healing
spell and those in the party don't object Arawn can cast Mana
Shield at max EL on himself and/or Kell as needed followed by
Healing Mist (racial) to heal Kell after explaining the spells
healing method, extending the Mana Shield duration if needed.
In regards to Kell's suggestion to find another inn and Tiehul's
advice on keeping a watch on the ship Arawn replies,
"I think it would be best to if you avoided the ship," he....
-----------------------------------------------------------
If Kell stays with the group Arawn will offer to keep watch to
make sure he doesn't split his wound open in his sleep. This
assumes he's not healed magically.
As for the dream.... let's just hope Arawn doesn't dream-walk
into Kell's nightmare or he might have to begin worrying about
the poor half-elf:)
GM: Ack.
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
[due to things Kell would know that I dont know, here is a
minor adjustment to my Halloween post.]
Kell still thinks staying off the ship is best for him since
the police know about it, but he will not offend Tiehul by
asking about another inn. Hell just stay with the group.
Although he does think having several people on the ship is a
good idea.
Kell is thankful for the magic healing offer and is all for it,
assuming it will be fairly safe and not attract attention.
[Any Hey, we had to have one Halloween themed post, and what
better way than becoming a zombie. J Arawn was just the
obvious target. ]
GM: Ack. Yep the halloween stuff was fun even OOC. :)

[New Stuff]
[Julis 7th, 1634TH]
[Location: Jiuquo, Katai]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperatures: 65-85]
[Location: Brass Mug Tavern]
[Time: 1:52pm]
Arawn acknowledges Tiehul's information regarding the libraries
with a nod and a quiet smile. "Thank you, though if the option to
purchase books pertaining to Katai and its history, art or culture
appear I would appreciate hearing about it. There's someone I know
who'd be very interested in such material if I can return to give
them to her someday."
Tiehul nods in response. "I've never been in such places myself.
But it is a easy place to find heretics. Of course they know
this and stay away. But there will also be some fool that decides
he needs some information and attempts entry. It isn't impossible
mind you, just difficult. One of the folks from up north sent
down here was tasked on such a thing. She was able to enter but
on leaving set off some alarm. She fled the city but I don't know
if she was caught or not. Once they pass through here I don't
keep tabs for my sake. If I survive your visit it will be my
biggest challenge. The sheer volume of people is a high risk
to myself. As to books that might come about one can find any
around as common for history. But our leaders tend to write
their own history in their image. So each province library
may be more inclined to the local noble house. Spouting things
of how they saved the empire or how they were persecuted. Those
type of things are typical. Private libraries in noble estates
might be more realistic. The Imperial Archives in Katai might
also be the most factual."
[Time: 2:54pm]
Z'leyra and Arawn help treat Kell's wounds.
Wanting to understood half-elven physiology better Arawn wished
he could call upon his magics to study Kell. It was within his
ability to see through things and if Kell proved willing it would
be a simple matter to see through the layers of flesh and study
the anatomy underneath to better understand how to tend to half-
elves. Unfortunately doing so within inhospitable Katai left that
an option for another place and time.
Working with Z'leyra he shared with the shaman techniques that
are used on elves, realizing that as a healer she would likely
find interest in the methods used to treat other races as well.
When she offered to allow him to watch her massage technique he
agreed with a smile, ready to follow her up when she was ready.
Z'leyra gladly takes help from Arawn but knows how Elves are
in terms of some basic injuries. In fact she has experience
with at least one dwarf, 3 Faerry and 2 other Elves. She
never had to treat Neva but did heal Jordi during their Climan
battles in the past.
When Z'leyra finishes up, Arawn approaches the wounded Kell
and the shaman with a proposal. "I do not know if it would be
wise to do so now but if need be I can conjure forth a mana shield
to block magical detection if Ha'Kell wishes to be healed
magically. It would best if I cast the healing spell, however, as
I can gauge the strength of my shield against the power of the
healing spell. Does anyone have something to say on this?"
Tiehul's eyes narrow. "We prefer not use certain words in
public like the S word." He waves a hand to the air. "We don't
know of tasks that can be used to detect the presence of
such words. I do not know this task you speak of or how it
works. But I know that the task is the very thing to attract
attention. By blocking such attention you create the attention
in the first place. Is that wise?"
Caladan nods, "He is right. Such shields may be commonly
sought after. To risk it here is one thing but to risk it
out there is another. If you do such a thing you might be
better to do it away from this tavern."
[Time: 3:03pm]
Shu finally comes down to the tavern to have a drink and then
talk privately with Zhou in the corner on her findings. Zhou
simply nods and takes the information in fully. Shu then goes
back upstairs to her room to rest.
[Time: 3:10pm]
After Kell is treated his strength begins to return and he
considers the day's events.
After the discussion and learning what happened with the pirates,
Ha'Kell isn't comfortable going back to the ship. What if the
police decide to check up on Zhou and they find him there?
"Perhaps I should go to another nearby inn for the night, one
within a few blocks? With several of us, including a healer just
in case," glancing down at his wrapped arm. "If the police decide
to check on Zhou and find the ship, I don't want to be found on
it. Whilst extremely unlikely, there is potential for a
connection between the market incident and finding me on the
noble's ship. I think splitting into two groups for sleeping is a
good idea. Perhaps myself, Farseeker, Will, and Z'Leyra can go to
another inn? We will be safe for one night." The half-elf then
waits for responses from others in the group.
Arawn quickly interjects, "I think it would be best to if you
avoided the ship," he said directed to Kell. "But I don't think
staying at another inn would be wise either. The more spread out
we become the greater the risk of exposure and complications. I
would imagine a man of Master Tiehul's resourcefulness likely has
a few places he could hide a person for a night."
"I think it wise to send someone back to the ship or at least to
keep an eye on it but I think it should be someone who doesn't run
the risk of detection as a practitioner of magic or as a foreigner."
Tiehul grimaces slightly. "The damage is done. By being
here if they haven't detected this large of a group by now
then they are asleep. By going into the city romping around
the market and to the very place they arrest such heretics then
the damage is done. In theory going outside the city to some
home there might be useful but here is just as safe. You're in
deep now so might as well stay in one place. If not for
protection but to flee as one group if trouble does happen."
[Time: 5:30pm]
With the tavern closed, Tiehul sets up dinner for the party
by getting the barkeep and staff to cook up dishes.
Dishes of hot soups, breads, vegetables, fruits and plenty
of meats are served. Local dishes are especially served to
show how the culture lives including fish, oysters and certain
meat varieties.
Kell nimbles on some rib like meat chunks and finds it very
tasty with some hot sauce. Someone asks what the food might
be from the barkeep just mentions whatever is found about.
Kell then turns a bit green at the thought of not hearing
any local barking in the city. He then wonders what he is
chewing and then the barkeep comments again. "Mostly pigs or
wild hogs for that there. The wild hogs are the best ribs
around. The domesticated hogs make good ham." Kell blows
out a sigh of relief at this revelation and continues eating
as he thinks of Squirt.
[Time: 7:12pm]
As nightfall comes the city begins to wind down. The sights
and sounds decrease. In the immediate area foot traffic outside
the tavern trickles down from 1-2 every 10 minutes to 1-2 once
an hour.
Zhou, Shu, Fremea, Unali, Kell all take rooms upstairs. Arawn
stays with Kell to ensure no problems with his wounds. Raban
decides to use the hallway to sleep in to guard Fremea's room.
It would be just the same downstairs and the beds are too small
for him. The rest of the party setup sleeping bags and blankets
on the tavern floor. Tiehul offers some can sleep in the stable
if they wish to guard the horses.
The night still young some decide to sit and talk. Others
decide to play games or gamble with Tiehul's employees. Most
know cooped up here is dangerous but less so than roaming
around the city.
[Time: 9:22pm]
Knowing the day could be a long one tomorrow most begin to
head to their sleeping areas. Tiehul lets the party knows he
needs to head to his own house after he meets with more contacts
to learn more information. He tells the party he will return
in the morning with news.
"I will leave four of my men and the barkeep here." Tiehul
adds. "the barkeep has his room upstairs. Two men will stay
on nearby roof points to watch the area. Two will be sentry
around the tavern. I've explained nothing of your mission or
the details of who you are. Only thing they know is that you
are strangers who need protection. Since I have...clients who
are secretive in their business dealings this isn't unusual."
Tiehul looks to Ben'dar briefly and then those still awake.
"Your free to drink but don't break me. This is still a business."
Then with that he leaves the tavern.
Farseeker advises Zhou he will also be sentry and setup watches
with the others at various times during the night.
---------------
[Julis 8th, 1634TH]
[Location: Jiuquo, Katai]
[Location: Brass Mug Tavern]
[Time: 6:48am]
As the party begins to stir at the first rays of sunlight the
city begins to stir. Those who go outside can hear faint
noises of crowds and the smells of food nearby. The barkeep
heads downstairs to start up cooking morning meals of soups,
oatmeal, eggs and other foods in the tiny kitchen area.
[Time: 7:02am]
Soon Tiehul arrives back on his horse and meets with his
second in command to talk briefly with him. He then enters
the tavern grim and determined.
"Hello everyone." He approaches Ben'dar and glares at him.
"Your fiasco yesterday caused quite the stink with the guards.
Seems with the Master General's birthday celebration coming
up, the local noble was the only thing to save you from certain
confinement." Then he grins and looks at Z'leyra. "Your
also lucky that Major Lai is on my payroll. I talked to him
and he was upset of the situation. But after your bribe which
was way overpaid by the way he let it go. He suspected that
maybe there was more. He isn't sympathetic to heretics but
can look the other way at times. " He turns back to Ben'dar.
"Kaj would've killed you. The barbarian has taken a full
great sword impaling in the gut and got only upset. He took
on 8 people in a town and all had weapons. he only had a club.
After three lost fingers or dislocated limbs he alone survived.
He has some unusual training that gives him great stamina.
I'm glad you didn't upset him or we might be in more trouble."
Tiehul then looks around for Kell and finds him. "Better?
I've learned the thug you left was indeed dead when city guards
found him. There was no evidence of a strange fight so didn't
investigate further. No rumors of the thief or...certain things
of yourself. There was a witness who only reported some man
in a cloak going down the street but he didn't get a good look.
So I think your safe for now."
"My man who watched your ship reported to my men that no one
came close to the ship at all. With Major Lai distracted by
the celebration coming up I doubt he would be interested in
doing real police work. Oh that reminds me." He looks back
at Z'leyra. "Too bad you did end up paying. Seems one of the
pirates was worth 4 full gold coins. He was wanted by a noble
in the north for killing his wife. But the interesting thing
is Major Lai reports the pirate stole a large ruby worth at least
30-40 gold. He broke late last night and told where he hid it.
So while you lost that reward the distraction and bonus to
him was good for him. He thanks you for it."
Tiehul goes to the bar and takes a cup of hot tea. He sips
it as he sits down at a table and waits for his eggs and ham.
"Now as to the information I found out...."
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Friday...
GM: Short update for now. I need to do some brain work on the
details of plot. So will do that in next update. BTW I'm
also doing something new for this adventure. A behind the
scenes story of what happens. At the end folks can read it
and it might fill in the blanks on some things. I also need
to do some behind scene player stuff to check on a few things.
Its interesting to see the game with zillions of posts just
months ago to a small amount now. Hope that changes. This
is the critical stage and could reflect on things later. But
might be too late to do stuff or ask the right question.
GM: No one went to ship and all stayed in tavern. No one posted
night time actions so moved the time to morning.
GM: Kell who do you want to be healed from Arawn or the actual
Healer Z'leyra? Skill might be a factor but it is up to you.
Let me know and I'll resolve that next update.
GM: One final comment. I notice emails have multiple TO fields.
So a list post might go to pnpgm@ as normal myself and
to another person. So one might send to 3 folks but it
all ends up on list. This creates multiple emails so maybe
to help there only send to one TO field? Just something
I've noticed. Not a big deal. P.S. Dwarves say to watch
the new V series tomorrow night on ABC.
