[Recap]
From Whitney: [Re: Actions]
[Re: Using Z'leyra's horse]
OOC: Last time it came up, I stated a preference for getting a
cart and mule. I figured with the advent of the wagon, which
seems to have plenty of room, he'd just ride that. I'd rather
not try to learn riding on the road, simply because I don't want
Whitney on a horse he doesn't know how to control when the road
apples hit the mudflaps.
As seems to be happening currently.... :-)
Any one of the open spots on the wagon would be fine, although
outside, if Zhou is inside would be preferable.
[Re: Clothing worn]
OOC: actually, Whitney's normal clothing ARE his leathers, Daniel
Boone style. The single set of clothing he brought with him were
for city interactions when he was traveling alone.
[Re: Weapons]
And sling in his pocket
[Re: Skills]
If all else fails, Whitney can sit on the rear seat whittling
away at wood scraps from the road side. Anyone want something
made by the famous W. Whittler? His 3 piece wooden dinnerware
sets are quite extraordinary, which can be seen every night on
the road at dinner time. He finished his on the ship.
ok, so he won't whittle. still might be a good idea to have
someone outside and to the rear. And he can still whittle in
camp if anyone wants to expand their art collection
GM: Ack. Zhou by default is inside as noble otherwise no need for
a wagon. So leaves you the rear seat which is no more than
a piece of wood plank and you use a rope segment to keep
you balanced and from falling though its not perfect. Its
not the enjoyable seat. Not as smelly as driver seat cushy
as inside but is dusty due to being in the rear. So don't
try to sleep with mouth open. Leather clothing in this
weather is going to be sticky and hot. So woodcarving for
skill ok. Yes rear guard would work for rear attacks.
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Fremea will glance outside and see the many armed man start to
advance on the wagon. She quickly grabs her bow (normal one) and
arrows out for quick fire into the men as they get closer. She
will not at this time use any spells, just in case this is a
trap to see if that is what they really want to have happen. If
only she could fly up above them.
GM: Ack. Could always fly and then slaughter any witnesses. :)
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
[First an update on the wagon trip equipment/etc for Ha'Kell.]
[Re: Clothing]
Kell wears his hat too.
[Re: Weapons]
Kell always wears a dirk. If he has no other weapons, he'll
wear two little stickers.
Technically Kell has spears as a ranged weapon, but that's not
nearly as effective as other.
[Re: Team setup]
Hey, aren't these Kell's draft horses? :) Not that it really
matters.
[Re: Combat
[End of basic trip info. Now onto Kell's actions for the
ambush.]
Seeing the foolish bandits charging on foot two horseman, Kell
is slightly amused. Horseman almost always has the advantage,
even more on an open road or field. Quickly glancing to Ben'Dar
on his left, Kell grabs a spear while saying to Ben'Dar, "That's
not very smart charging us on foot. You want the two on the
left and I get the two on the right?"
Ha'Kell readies his spear for a charge at the rightmost bandit,
hoping to impale him then swing around and take out the other
bandit on the right.
Waiting for Ben'Dar and not allowing the bandits to close into
melee range, Ha'Kell prepares to charge the bandit to skewer him
with the pointy end of his spear.
[FYI, I'm travelling over Thanksgiving and don't know if I'll
have access to email. Today I will, then maybe on Sunday.]
GM: Ack. Hat is assumed worn yes. Dirk is dagger for my notes.
As to spear this is mainly reference for "at hand". The
spears are on the horses and can be obtained quickly but
this is immediate grabs. Your right those are your horses
not Kiet's since you paid for them. The talking will take
a few phases. As to travel enjoy the vacation! I figure
folks will be doing that why this update will be light
until Monday.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
[Re: Wagon team]
I believe I read somewhere there is a preferred sequencing for
mixed horses Rear are the heaviest Middle can be lighter
Front lightest, bravest and more nimble as these control
steering and if they move the others will follow Thus front may
be best with war trained or ones who will not balk at a puddle,
if front are scared you have a serious problem
Not sure what skills Raban can gain here, but he does need more
horsemanship skill so should focus on that.
He will need to hop off horse to fight
<Raban will guard his side of the wagon, none shall pass! Awful
brave bandits, but rich targets bring out the best in such people.
<Looks like bow use is already out and the fight will be serious,
so it is use gauntlets not daggers since they differ by such a
huge amount of skill
<Skill about half to defense, maybe more as situation warrants as
it reduces the potential severity of damage <First action, get
off the house before he falls off!
<Raban would like to intimidate his opponents and maybe scare
them away, so something like picking up and throwing bandits at
each other, crushing bones, ripping off limbs or other reasonable
flash? <Not sure about rules in those areas so may not even be
possible...
<The dangers of playing a giant barbarian... living up to the
hype ;)
GM: Ack. You read what I posted during the wagon detail post. I
got that info from a stagecoach site. :) But I'm not too
serious into which horse goes where in this case. But
if you suggest movements let me know. Details are great
for realism but sometimes bogs things down. Why like for
this trip I'm not worried about food. Don't mind switching
them around if you have a suggestion. I just did it quickly.
For skills you can do day stuff or night stuff. But
horsemanship is fine for Raban. Ack on combat.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
Kiet is as you say....in his leather armor, the metal helm and
ringmail stowed for the journey. Dagger only.
As armor is rather heavy and uncomfortable, Kiet only plans to
wear it if we KNOW we are going to an area that we expect
trouble.
Kiet sees these so-called monks shuck off their disguises and
then yells out "Kill the ones in front! Then we'll out-run the
rest!" If Kiet sees at least three riders attack the front
'blockers', then he will say "Hyawh!" and snap the reins to get
the horses moving.
GM: Ack. Actually as driver helmet would be expected. If you want
to wear it that's fine even for that role. So you don't
hurt while falling off the wagon. Let me know. But on
the horse as scout might be a bit odd for a servant. No
armor ok. Hot too to wear.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'lerya readies her dagger trying to keep it out of sight of the
brigands as they rush towards her so that her first attack will
be a surprise. She pretends to shriek in fear "Oh! Brigands!!!"
She intends to fight offensively for her first attack, then
defensively after that trying to keep the brigands off the
wagon.
She chooses not to use magic....yet. Only in dire need will she
do so while in Katai.
GM: Ack. Will assume you get off wagon to fight.
Post from Whitney: [Re: Actions]
I'm not sure where Whitney is. If, for soem reason, he's on a
horse, he'll hang on for dear life. If he's in the rear seat,
he'snock an arrow. If he's in with Zhou, well, keep his knife
handy (and his axe, once he realizes there's a threat outside,
too).
GM: Ack. In rear seat. But envision a wood plank about 4 feet
long and just big enough for your butt. Along back where
you sit is the stagecoach back which is lift-up slide like
small cargo area. You lift from bottom up like a car trunk.
Its more hard plastic than wood. Along the sides where you
sit is hard wood to lean up against. The rear seat is really
made for footmen to stand to get the top packages from the
top cargo area or to stand as a guard and hold on. An
example might be Lincoln's secret service footman who rode
there in that fateful night. There are screwed in areas
where ropes are used for hand holds and a "seat belt" which
isn't too secret and still need to hold for safety. Now
with that said its a cheap seat. A quiver could be rigged
up with a nail along the side somewhere. But a bow you
would have to hold or stand up to get it from the top cargo
rack. Holding is problematic as only leaves one hand to
secure your butt from sliding off. So realistically it
would be hard to have a bow at "ready" access unless held
constantly. You'd have to stand up to get it. I suppose
another nail could be setup to hang it but it might arouse
some odd looks and questions. I could even see maybe
hanging it below the wagon for access but the rear axle
might get in the way. Let me know what you want to do with
the bow.

Next Update...Monday...
GM: Wagon file updated. Now in the links section on website.
GM: Forgot to mention as the monks tear their robe off aside
from the short swords and daggers seen there are some
with spears along their leg length. Some have rope that
are woven along their arms and up to their shoulders.
GM: Originally posted 16.5 days travel time. I did up the
weather and random encounters for the trip. Due to something
like 10 hours of rain delay (mud, flooding, blinding rain)
can't move. So that will add another day to make it 17. Lots
of rain this trip as it is summer time. At least 2 days over
100 degrees so why its hot to even wear leather. :)
GM: Aside from Ben'dar who is clearly home on a horse I assume
all those on horses will dismount to fight. One to protect
their horses (unless they have barding) and skill may be
a factor if your not skilled in horse combat. Correct my
assumption if wrong.
GM: Map notes for below. The "monks" had to go off the road
to avoid the wagon. They look close. But are 10-15 feet
away. For Ben'dar/Kell not on the map. They are off to
the west ahead with 4 bad guys. Those inside wagon are
not listed on map coordinates until they exit. Those inside
can pick a side for combat north/south. Over 40 things on
the map so had to use one icon (*) for the bad guys. When
they are killed they will be removed off the map for clutter.
I did the map for my sanity to organize who goes where.
Always remember if the map shows up bad in email (usually
does due to tabs in most email clients) check the website
as the map there seems to be aligned properly (at least
no one has said otherwise). Keep in mind the sun is
almost due west so riding toward the setting sun at this
time. So those ahead might be harder to see. The
area is open plains. Aside from low waist high bushes
here and there there are no rocks or trees to hide behind.
The road is straight on both ends for as far as can see.
GM: Kell/Ben'dar - No map done as its just you 2 and the 4
in an open area. With the horses moving about figure
it isn't a big deal but let me know if need one.
The four are about 10-15 feet from you.
GM: It is Thursday consider this the Friday update. Doing it
early so folks have an extra day due to busy schedules this
holiday weekend. If questions on the combat let me know.
I'm ready for the combat but have to do couple more charts
like the movement chart this weekend. One phase likely to
be 2-3 hours per easy so only 2 phases max. So plan for that
time frame. Assuming combat occurs if Kiet's plan fails.
