[Recap]
From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions]
Ben'Dar is now thoroughly bored with these guards. He....
He will attempt to leave. If the guards try to stop him, they
will learn the foolishness of imposing civilized rules to a
warrior of the Fel'oros. The lesson will be taught with fist
and spear.
GM: Ack. Good stuff. Dangerous but good stuff. :) Why didn't
you learn Katai? Geesh. At this point assume you don't
fight Z'leyra back.
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
Kell wraps his arm tightly, and makes sure he retrieves his
"I think I need a new shirt."
[Reactions from the market crew?]
[Re: Ben'dar's actions]
[Ha! This is great stuff. Maybe not the best actions for the
mission, but still fun. J Mark ]
GM: Ack. The hits were on the head and arms and they tend to be
hard for armor. Since you were in your "market" mode for
such things didn't equip fully.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Having shaken her head and gotten a headache at seeing ....
[Frankly she hopes he doesn't fight back hard as he is likely a
better brawler than she is.]
She will try to Influence the Major, saying that "we" will
'discipline' the barbarian and teach him better manners. No
need to take up space in jail better used for serious criminals.
She will offer that any reward due us for the capture of the
pirates could go to the Major for his trouble and his
assistance in getting the party the bounty hunter permits and
to pay off any fine that Ben'Dar may have incurred. Part of
this includes deep bowing and profuse apologies.
GM: Ack.
From Whitney: [Re: Wagon inspection]
OOC: It's probably worth noting, for the inspection, that
Whitney is an expert smuggler.
GM: Ack. I know that. You know that. But Zhou doesn't. :)

[New Stuff]
[Julis 7th, 1634TH]
[Location: Jiuquo, Katai]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperatures: 65-85]
[Time: 1:28pm]
[Location: City Jail, Ku'Shu sector]
The major looks to Chion as the other's patron, "...Now what
are we going to do about this situation?"
Ben'Dar is now thoroughly bored with these guards. He listens to
the major prattling on in Katai, which he can't understand.
Calmly, he says in Zen'dali. "I didn't piss on your boots. Let
the young man fight his own battles, or step aside. You people
call yourselves civilized, but we enter your home and you offer
us no drink, food, comfort of any kind. Not even a place to
relieve ourselves after our long travels. What kind of
hospitality is it that you show your guests? Civilized? Pfhah!"
The major looks to Ben'dar confused. He then turns to Chion.
"What did the barbarian say?"
Turning to his friends, he says in Marentian, "We've delivered
the pirates, let's get going. We have important things to do,
like finding a tavern and good ale!"
The major raises an eyebrow seeming to understand some of those
words. "Ale? After what you've done?" He laughs. Apparently
some Marentian foreigners taught him a few words.
Ben'dar begins to move to the closed door.
Having shaken her head and gotten a headache at seeing Ben'Dar
practice being an obnoxious barbarian, Z'leyra decides to act to
prevent a full fledged battle by walking up behind him, grappling
him and pulling him down to the floor while telling him in Zen'dali
"Quit being an obnoxious fool and getting us all into trouble!"
Z'leyra is 40 pounds lighter and 8 inches shorter than the tall
horse warrior, but she has the slight advantage of knowing hand
to hand tactics while he doesn't. Ben'dar is thrown to the wall
and then forced to the ground as she speaks. The sudden blow
he didn't see coming surprises him. But when he realizes who
it is he lets it continue and smiles. The whole act seems a bit
exciting to him. Within 2 seconds of being on the ground she
lets the warrior go. But pushes him down to emphasize the action.
Z'leyra then turns and bows to Tiehul. "Sorry about the problem
Sir. We are still training him in responsible behavior. We WILL
discipline him."
"Should show him how to use a outhouse." The Major sternly
replies.
Z'leyra releases Ben'dar and he quickly stands up cleaning his
clothing and glaring at Z'leyra. She ignores him as she continues,
"He had been doing well...guess the crowds got to him and ...well
he got nervous and backslid a bit. Yes Sir, sorry sir, Wasn't fast
enough."
The Major sits back and crosses his arms. "We can discipline him
fine with a night in jail and some lashes by the whip."
The Major raises a hand at the wall. "The cost to replace the
carpet alone will be several silver I'm sure... not including
repainting....the fines levied..."
Z'leyra raises a hand to placate him with a faint smile.
"Wouldn't want to waste good jail space that is best used for
serious criminals. And it would just make him more nervous and
make him backslide more."
Chion looks down briefly with a smirk on his face that fades
as fast as it appears. He then looks back up expressionless.
The major raises an eyebrow. "More? So you will pay for the
carpet..the fines...and our time? How much do you suggest?"
Impatient Ben'dar stops pacing back and forth and reaches for
the door. Distracted this time Z'leyra misses this and Ben'dar
opens the door and rushes forward. But he bounces on the door
and is pushed back a half step. Rather he thought it was the
door when he looks back at the threshold a large man is standing
the width of the door frame. He is about 6 foot 4 and about
400 pounds looks to be all muscle on his arms, shoulder, neck
and hands. But his abdomen looks to be a big large from possible
body fat. Ben'dar looks into the man up and down to see simple
leather cloth pants and tunic. The man who is bald had one
earring in his right ear and a thin black mustache. Clearly
a native he smiles at Ben'dar showing at least 3 missing teeth.
The man with arms as large as a tree limb reaches out and grabs
Ben'dar. One hand grabs his by the right shoulder and squeezes
forcing his weapon arm to go tense. With his left hand which
is likely his weak hand he grabs Ben'dar by the neck and hauls
him forward. Then with one grunt he hauls Ben'dar in one swift
move up and hits his head onto the top of the door threshold
a good foot off the ground. Ben'dar begins to gasp for air as
it is cut off and flails his legs. he now realizes how Raban
must look to a kid.
The Major looks at the door. "Kaj! Do NOT rip off his head.
Last time we had to clean up for a week! Let him down!"
Kaj looks up at Ben'dar and grunts. The foul smell of sardines
hits Ben'dar. Kaj watches a second or two as the barbarian
turns purple. Then he releases the barbarian and Ben'dar goes
flying backwards onto his rear and slamming onto the floor.
"Close the door." The Major says. It takes a few seconds and
then Kaj complies. The Major looks back at Chion and then
Z'leyra. "We all have our barbarians to deal with. Kaj is
at least well trained. But in his blood lust gets a bit messy.
Now he'll have to be fed a full course lunch to calm him down."
The Major pauses and then waves a hand looking at Z'leyra. "Please
continue."
Z'leyra bows again. "Sorry sir. Please, that reward you were
talking about? Take it out of that. Indeed take the whole reward
in compensation for his rude behavior and for guiding our party
through the bureaucracy involved in getting the bounty hunter
permits and the costs of those permits."
Ben'dar rolls over and coughs. While high up he saw at least
five other guards in the hallway. It could be a fight to
get through. Not that he has doubt in it. But that monster
in the doorway could be a problem.
As soon as she said it she realizes she just admitted the party
has no permits. She sighs inwardly and bows yet again as if
in a submissive female in this society. Ben'dar begins to pace
back and forth hearing the gibberish. Each time he tries for
the door, Z'leyra glares and pulls him back.
"Getting the permits? So you don't have them? Hrmmm...that alone
is a costly fine. Bounty hunting without them is a serious
offense." He pauses and then begins to count off the costs
on his fingers. "The reward would cover some of those expenses.
But let's see no fines for four bounty hunters is 1 Silver each...
carpet and painting likely to be another 2 silver... Waking up Kaj
from his nap is bad enough and he eats 1 Silver a day..so we are
up to 11 Silver...for his rude behavior the fine for that is 5
Copper for a typical drunk. "
The major pauses for emphasis. "So let's round it to 12 Silver.
Now that's just the fines. The reward itself would cover maybe
half that. I only found info on 2 of them and they are 6 and 2
silver. So that means you owe around 4 silver. Now what about
my time? I've wasted a long time here where I could be out
finding criminals. My men are all up here itching for a fight...
.our time is also valuable.."
Z'leyra reaches into her pouch and digs for some coins. She
picks up coins and places 5 Katai silver on the desk.
The Major looks at the coins and uses his palm to sort the coins
out apart but doesn't pick them up. he then looks up and glares
at Ben'dar. "But I want a silver just for him. He needs to learn
a lesson."
The major then adds, "Makes it a even gold coin to our empire's
coffers."
Z'leyra then selects another silver coin from her bag and places
it on the desk with a clip snap noise to emphasis that it is
going to be hard to get more. The Major smiles but the group
that understands him knows the city will likely see a few copper
but the crew here will benefit more than the city from this pay-out.
"Sorry for wasting your time sir. We didn't know that we needed
to have the permits out on the ocean and didn't have time to get
the permits before defending ourselves...but with the permits we
will be able to defend ourselves if it happens again without
worrying about breaking the law as we will have the needed
permits. Thanks to your honorable self." Z'leyra finishes with a
bow.
"Fine." He places a hand over the coins and drags them off and
palms them. "We will arrange for you some permits -"
Outside in the hallway a muffled set of voices are heard. The
Major stops and listens but its hard to hear through the door.
Suddenly the door opens and another young guard comes in. He
pushes Ben'dar to the side and rushes to the Major's side. He
leans and whispers to him.
"He's coming here now?" The Major says the last word with a
great deal of excitement.
The young guard raises his voice slightly forgetting the
audience. "The celebration. He needs to inspect-"
The Major waves him away. "I know why he is coming. This is
not good. Get them out of here. Close off this room. Get
Kaj back to his pen. Ensure the barracks are clean." He stands
up and walks toward the door. "Go." He pushes the guard out
into the hallway then turns to the group. "You can pick up your
permits in the morning here. You are free to leave. Please
do so now. " He turns to Ben'dar and stares. "tell this brute
if he does anything like this again I will not be so kind." He
then turns and leaves the room. Running down the stairs.
Three young guards in the hallway motion. "This way please."
Ben'dar not understanding what is going on simply leaves before
he is asked to. He stops into the hallway past the large brute
and down the stairs. Z'leyra sighs and follows quickly behind.
Will and Chion glance at each other and then soon follow sad
to have lost some profit from this venture.
Exiting the jail the horses are there where they were left
before and from first glance seem untouched. The group quickly
mounts and heads off. All the while Will and Z'leyra glare at
Ben'dar. Chion just seem content.

[Time: 1:27pm]
[Location: City Street near Market]
Kell wraps his arm tightly, and makes sure he retrieves his
tulwar. He cleans the weapon before sheathing it and leaving for
the stall in the market. He keeps a close eye out for the second
thug and the boy, but more to avoid them. His armor didn't stop
nearly the damage he hoped. Thinking to himself, he needs armor on
his arms. He'll have to make himself some armored bracers that he
can wear under clothes when he has the time.
Kell staggers down the street with a possible concussion and
woozy from blood loss. As he staggers he keeps watch behind
and to the front of him. In the 2 mile stretch of street that
seems 18 miles to him in his condition, there are few people.
Those who encounter him take one look at his shirt and arm
and turn away. At one point a shop keeper comes out to offer
help to Kell but he notices how nimble the jeweler's hands are.
He avoids the man as he seems to convey sleight of hand. There
is no sign of the second man at all. Kell wonders how long before
a city guard finds the body and starts a search in vain for his
attacker. More likely the second guard will come back and pick
off his own loot from the body or take him some place. He
is concerned about the boy who saw his ears. Surely the boy
will tell someone but who will believe a street kid? Will they
take the report seriously?
Still light headed but steadier he arrives at the stall. His
arm bloody and wrapped tightly, his tunic bloodstained as well.
Grinning and showing his white teeth he says, "I got our money
back. I'm going to sit down here in the back until we leave for
the tavern." He walks to the back and turns around, resting his
back on the wall. He slides down and then takes off his hat and
places it beside him on the ground.
"I think I need a new shirt." Kell mutters to the air.
Kiet who just arrived himself only about 3 minutes earlier goes
to inspect the trader. He'll live but he should see Z'leyra
soon to prevent infections.
Strie'bog keeps in charge of the stall but Caladan rushes back.
"Are you all right?" When he realizes Kell is weak but alive
he nods. He bends down to inspect Kell's back of the head where
he took the knock out blow. He grabs some water from his canteen
and applies it to the bruised and blood matted area to clean it.
Kell grimaces in pain but he grits his teeth. "Don't fall asleep
this from what Z'leyra says could be dangerous with head wounds."
Strie'bog glances back. "He's coming."
Kiet and Kell turn around to see a man approaching the booth
who is well dressed and wearing a sapphire ring. He glances
at the armor and weapons.
Caladan whispers to both. "We found one merchant interested
in the weapons to resell. The other vendors sell weapons and
armor but he reports they cheat him."
Kell knows leaving his hat off could be dangerous. He pulls
his long hair over his ears. He tries to sit up since he should
be the one to haggle these prices. But his weak legs and brain
prevents him. He sits back against the wall wishing the building
in front of him would stop moving.
Almost twenty minutes later Strie'bog, Caladan and Kiet help
to finalize the prices of the last of the stall items.
Caladan then comes to Kell. "It is all gone. We can go find
this tavern."
The group picks up their gear and helps Kell up. The rest
did good and finally his legs and eyes are back to normal. The
ground isn't moving and the vision isn't blurry. Caladan helps
him mount his horse slowly and then all mount up. The four move
out and leave the market area.
Kell explains what happen as they ride toward the tavern. Kell
and Kiet is also sad to find a couple herbalist and jeweler shops
that have decent items not the particular items both are
looking for. Too small is usually the case.
[Time: 2:07pm]
-----------------
[Time: 1:31pm]
[Location: Brass Mug Tavern]
After Tiehul settles down and sits back down, Arawn brings up
the scroll to him again. "The biggest clue might be the symbol at
the bottom. I know it could be dangerous tracking this down and,
thank you. Perhaps, if nothing positive turns up while we are in
town, would it be possible to find a list or book detailing the
various merchant and noble houses and their symbols? The
information might turn up later in study. And one last thing,
Master Tiehul. In an obscure travel journal from these lands the
writer discussed a find of some strange, crab-like armor in some
remote mountain. Could you see if this story rings a bell with
anyone?"
Tiehul looks at arawn and nods. "The symbol is not a House
symbol that I'm sure of. It could be a company or merchant
logo but I will ask. As to this armor you mention I will
ask but have no idea. There are libraries in the city that
might have books but I've never visited them. So don't know
where they are located actually."
Whitney finds himself out back escorted by one of the "customers"
in the tavern who clearly works for Tiehul. Whitney goes to
inspect the wagon.
Soon the talk becomes chit-chat between Zhou and Tiehul. Much
of which isn't mission related. As some relax upstairs others
are outside looking at the wagon.
[Time: 2:12pm]
After almost a half hour the pirate group finally finds the
tavern and dismounts. Outside the tavern a man is standing
at the door whittling on a piece of wood with a knife. He
looks up and speaks to Chion. "We're closed!"
Before anyone can say anything Tiehul opens the door. "They
can come in." He glances at the four and sighs. He then
heads back to the table. The man tells where the horses can
be kept.
Tiehul sits down and glares at Zhou. "Three more? How many
are out there? This large a group is dangerous. You people
sent one at a time not half a dozen! I want you to leave no
later than tomorrow mid-morning. It is too much a risk. I
will look for the information you seek but after that you
should leave."
Soon the four enter the tavern with Ben'dar looking a bit amused
and happy to get a ale.
Zhou asks. "So how much did you get from the jail bounty?"
[Time: 2:54pm]
After accidentally getting wrong directions to a Brass Ring Tavern
the market task group finally finds the Brass mug Tavern. They
dismount and Kell goes immediately to Z'leyra for help.
Zhou looks concerned and gets out of his chair to inspect
Kell for himself. "What happened?"
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Monday...
GM: All together now.
GM: Reminder. At the jail names of the Baron (Zhou) and personal
names were given. Since no one said they would not answer the
guard's initial questions I assume some info was given.
GM: Monday I will report on the Wagon inspection. Either Monday
or Friday then will report Tiehul's findings.
GM: There are 8 rooms. Some can sleep in the tavern but if any
wish to go back to the ship to sleep let me know. I will
assume all sleep at the tavern if not posted by Monday.
GM: I also updated the link on Update/Important Info link showing
a reminder on which updates might have important info.
