[Recap]
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
When Fremea sees Arawn on the ground, not at the barn, she will
head that direction. If she can cast Teleport and be there faster
than flying she will do that (just not sure on distance to him).
When she is there, if he needs help in taking care of the poison,
she will do what she can on it, otherwise she will offer to cast
healing at Max.
Once Arawn is ok, she will continue to the Barn, by teleporting
(one phase cast) to the other side of the barn and about level
with the roof, so she can be behind of the Vong looking the
other way.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Since Z'leyra is both invisible and insubstantial she can't
tell those in the barn that it is time to run and regroup a
ways away so that we can prepare better for the major fight
with the Vong.
Instead, she decides to scout out the Vong by checking out all
the buildings as fast as she can, recasting Levitation and
Insubstantiability at the max EL that she can cast in one phase
as the previous casting gets close to ending. If the distances
warrant it she will also use Teleport EL0 to go to other building
roofs.
GM: Ack. Remember Insubstantial allows recasting of travel powers.
So based on that verbal words should be used. Based on that
we've always done it ghostly ethereal like voice. As to
what warrants what I can't judge. So will just move you in that
direction till you let me know what warrant means. :)

[New Stuff]
[Julis 26th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province]
[ 20 Miles south of Shantou City ]
[ Old Shantou Carnival Grounds ]
[Time: 2:28:27pm - 2:28:32pm]
Arawn who is now heavily wounded by the Vong amphistaff wound
that was near his heart teleports to the field. He lands on
his knees with a dusty thump and clutches his chest. The pain is
severe and he grits his teeth. His magically enhanced right hand
Fist holds the very inside of him in and blocks the blood loss.
Arawn knows now that if he hadn't cast that Armor spell to enhance
his scale mail he would likely be dead right now. The odds of a
good hit and fate intervening as if his own parents are watching.
Arawn sees to the east the wagon and some of the party except
for those west of him. Those west of him look to be Kell, Unali
and Strie'bog. Glancing east he sees the wagon, Raban and Fremea
in the arr. Ben'dar, Chion, Caladan and Farseeker ride near or in
front of the wagon. Arawn scans the field and the skies for that
flying beast but doesn't see it. He notices a thin waft of black
growth in the field to the east but no UFO? Yet the party is
riding fine but the object is gone. He puts that to the back of
his mind for now and glances to find his horse.
Arawn sighs when he sees the horse about 600 odd feet away near
the wagon. He did tell it to flee but then again it was a short
command and not detailed. Looks like the horse went by instinct
and stayed with other horses. Likely following the leader horse,
Tef'wo. He knows the horse will be too far to get here or walk to
it. It could take a good minute to get to the horse. By then
though the wound could cause other damage and the battle at the barn
might be over by then.
Those to the east see Arawn suddenly appear some 600 feet ahead
of them and slightly south of them. He is on his knees and glancing
to the east. Raban begins to divert his course in that general
direction. Fremea also alters her course and wonders why he has
come back and what the problem is.
Arawn quickly grabs his buckler with his left arm and cringes
when he extends his right hand to gesture for his spell. Blood
begins to soak his tunic. Abruptly Arawn reappears about 6 feet
in front of his horse to his left.
-------------------
[Time: 2:28:33pm - 2:28:47pm]
Arawn's horse rears up in fright and comes to a quick shift
in his course. With a bleak voice in the horse tongue, Arawn
commands him to stop and come back. The horse turns about and
then notice who it is and slowly with some caution comes forward.
About 200 feet north the wagon and others suddenly see Arawn
disappear again. Caladan hears Arawn's horse and yells to the
others and points. This draws the attention of Fremea who is
now about 100 feet ahead of the wagon and about 300 feet from
Arawn. Fremea then notices a stain of blood on his tunic and
recoils in confusion and dread. She could fly there in 20-25
seconds but it looks like Arawn is badly hurt. She decides to
cast her own teleport spell.
Fremea casts her teleport spell while hovering over the carnival
ground field. But as she blinks she finds herself where she
continues to be. Frustrated at the spell's failure she hurtles
fast forward toward Arawn.
Arawn stands to his feet with weak legs and realizes he is also
losing strength from his magic Fist spell. He dispels the spell
and his right hand loses its aura and loosens up. As he stands
he drops his buckler and hauls down his bag with major force onto
the ground.
As Arawn pulls out his healing kit and water skin he glances
around his body. The swarm bites are minor each and likely can
last for awhile. But the spear thrust to his chest is a major one
and needs to be cleaned and bandaged right away. From what the
reports of the Lake Oca battle folks poisoned by the amphistaves
felt some warmness in their body. So far Arawn has yet to feel
it so assumed the spear strike did not have a poison effect. Nor
the bugs it seems which is good news. He has no materials to
negate poisons. Of course the Vong could have adapted but so far
he feels hurt not poisoned.
Arawn begins to use some bandage to stop the bleeding. His
Healer skill will have to be that of a quick field medic. Later
he can work on it and clean the wound out with a good cauterizing
knife and fire if he must. He pours some water onto the wound to
quickly cleanse it and then recaps his waterskin. Then happy that
the wound finally begins to stop bleeding he begins to apply several
feet of bandages.
Using both hands he can't do it around his body so does the next
best thing. The very fact of bending his arms could cause further
bleeding to wrap it around his chest. Using his right armpit he
puts the bandage down and up and grabs it with his other hand. He
then brings it up over his left shoulder to make it stay. Then
with both hands wraps it again around him but this time under his
left armpit and over his chest. He repeats this quickly about four
times to a point where across his upper back and breastbone he has
a layer of bandage over his armor. It is not a perfect job by
any means and likely will not last the first few minutes of any
new combat. But to get things going it is a first step. To
use healing herbs and potions and the like would take minutes.
The entire battle could be over by then.
Near the end of his bandage work, Fremea lands with a graceful
step near him. She quickly approaches and finds his tunic soaked
with water and blood. As he continues to wrap the bandage around
his tunic and armor he quickly explains it isn't a critical wound
but one that will need magical healing. Even at that it might not
heal fully. Fremea offers to heal him but Arawn declines knowing
that her magic would be less effective on him. Fremea is now
visible as her invisibility spell wore off just before landing.
-------------------
[Time: 2:28:33pm - 2:28:47pm]
Kiet continues his charge forward making the horse pant and
drive with full speed. He saw Arawn briefly for a second or two
then he went away and then Caladan pointed to his left toward
the south a bit. Glancing over he sees Arawn near a horse, likely
his own. He shrugs figuring Arawn just needed his horse back.
Inside the wagon, Whitney continues to blink and clear his
blindness but it doesn't happen. In his mind he hears Will's
thoughts continue. Whitney murmurs, "four in the barn..." But
Zhou just sits there not sure what to do.
Zhou moves slides over to the left side of the wagon where
Fremea was and glances out the window. He can't help Whitney
or the others. Even when they get to the barn he will be likely
useless. In this strange turn of events his thoughts go to Shu
and wonder what she would do. As he glances south he sees
Fremea and Arawn near each other doing something. his eyes
drift to the other buildings. He shakes his head as he considers
the rash actions of the party. The flyer did change things but
the role he planned might have worked. He isn't sure why Whitney
is talking to himself but the Professor was always a bit odd like
most of the party. Kell seems to have turned the whole party
toward the barn structure. Zhou is no military expert but even
he knows if there are Vong in wait it would be the barn. But
if there are indeed people here, the original people who tend the
grounds and live here then where are they? They must be in the
other buildings. The ambush was sprung and now surprise is not in
their favor. He knows now that going after those other buildings
will be a bit harder if prisoners are at stake.
Ben'dar struggles slightly in the saddle. He is still wounded
but not as badly as before. He growls at the thought of being
wounded by a flying thing so early in this likely long battle.
But if he hadn't drawn the flyer's fire, Fremea or others might have
been hurt worse or killed. Tef'wo rides fast forward behind the
group still a bit away from the barn.
Caladan and Chion continue to ride west toward the barn. Once
Caladan sees Fremea become visible and land near Arawn he figures
she can help the Alfar better than he can. He isn't sure where
Z'leyra has gone to and why she isn't here to help but he figures
she is in the thick of things as usual.
Farseeker also rides westward and begins to study the layout
a bit better. The enemy did well to take the high ground and
setup sentries. The tallest building is the barn. but he isn't
sure why no other Vong have appeared on the grounds or from the
other buildings. Could it only be those in the barn or could
there be more in the buildings? Zhou did mention something
about people living or working here. So where are they?
Raban continues his impression of a mini-killer whale flying
through the air. When he saw Arawn he figures the Elf retreated
for some reason. But then he poofed away again. then Caladan
pointed him out. Raban considers briefly to go to him to offer
healing or help. But then he notices Fremea appear near the
Alfar and land to help him. He figures he can be better help
at the barn with that darn fool merchant who seems to have forgotten
his backup is hundreds of feet behind him.
-------------------
[Time: 2:28:33pm - 2:28:47pm]
Z'leyra still invisible and levitating moves just in front
of the south horse stalls eastward. She silently glides and
examines the stalls briefly in her fast movement. But at 20
feet per second it is a bit of a blur She begins to move
slightly south into the actual stalls.
Will now visible is in the north and east area of the barn.
He is still levitating and insubstantial. The Vong who were
near the door have just moved outside to confront the party.
The brave creatures thinking 3 could take on so many. They
must have no brains or a will not to fail if one might get
punished. Will reloads his insubstantial bow with the magic
of the spell acting on him and his things. Once the action
is complete the arrow flies away and immediately becomes solid.
But the arrow goes wild and hits the ground about 2 feet
behind the Vong in the distance.
Kell now only 15 feet from the nearest Vong that jumped from
the roof dismounts off his horse. EH glances with menace at
the Vong creatures for the first time getting a good view of
the ugly things. They are just like the descriptions of the
others. The thick black and brown, sometimes spiked in some
places, leather clothing blocks view of the famed crab armor
but it has to be there somewhere. With his tulwar still in his
sheath and slapping his hip he ensures his metal helmet is secure.
He then turns to his horse and grabs his spear and banded shield.
He then the slightly turned horse on the rump and makes it
trot away from him.
Z'leyra moving east through the stall walls begins to recast
her insubstantial spell fearing it may expire and running into
a wall would be a bad thing. She hopes the spell worked as she
continues eastward.
Will also recasts his levitation spell again and will quickly
know if it fails or not. He also continues toward the open door
and sees Kell dismount to face four Vong? Is he planning to sell
them spears or something?
Kell stands his ground and places both feet wide apart to
brace himself. The plan in mind will take longer than most
spells to cast so he'll have to brace for Vong reaction. He
then realizes that fighting four before he can cast his spell
could be dangerous. Maybe he should've cast it a bit away
rather than 15 feet from them. But that is a bit too late
now to reconsider. Kell begins to gather magical energy for
his spell.
It doesn't take long and the Vong charge. All four smile and
charge the foolish human. Two per side using their amphistaves
as spears. Two thrust wildly and miss the merchant all together.
One hits Kell's banded shield. But the other one makes contact
with Kell's lower right abdomen. but the blow is weak and
the armor he wears blocks the blow.
Now both about 200 feet behind Strie'bog and Unali glance
at each other as they ride toward the barn. They wonder why
Kell is willing to put himself right up against four Vong.
Z'leyra finally reaches the area with the closed door on
the south east end of the barn. She quickly does a circle
through the tiny 10 feet room and what she can figure is a
typical storage area likely for saddles and bridles or minor
cleaning tools. She then zips down through the door and into
darkness as the ground is solid. Going at a diagonal back
north west she hopes to find a basement. But it continues to
be solid ground and she figures there is no such floor here.
She levitates back up and then turns south and heads for the
south wall.
Will sees the Vong charge Kell and he shakes his head. His
ghostly sigh sounds more like gas seeping out a well. He is
now about 150 feet from the Vong and would be harder to hit at
this range and his slow levitate spell won't get there for a good
20-30 seconds. So he quickly casts a teleport spell. He
appears now about 10 feet up and 10 feet behind the four
Vong with perfect targets at their backs. Of course at
this range Kell is right there as well.
At the same instant that Will teleports near the Vong, Kell
finishes his magic words. Holding the spear with his shield
hand and gesturing with his free hand he completes the spell
and smiles a wicked smile. Will notices this smile and wonders
if he should watch his back around Kell. That smile is one
worn by assassins before they strike. Suddenly around Kell
dust bellows. His pants legs begin to whip back and forth
fast as if in a fast wind. Then a half second later winds
begin to swirl and blow all around Kell. Then within another
half second the vortex of invisible winds begin to pick up
grass, sand and dust particles and throwing them all about.
The debris flies, up and in a whirlwind. Tiny pebble sized
rocks now hurtle at high speeds around as if tiny missiles
from the desert sands themselves. The Whirlwind bellows up
and outwards 10 feet around Kell and 10 feet up. He had
originally planned to be 10 feet up. But the spell itself
doesn't raise you it only remains around you. One would need
to cast levitation to be a flying jinn or something in a
whirlwind.
The Vong immediately take damage from the Whirlwind spell and
all take minor damage. One takes a few moderate hits from
debris but as they are within the spell's influence they
remain inside the field.
Above Will suddenly realizes he can't see the Vong too
well the vortex of sand and dust is thick but he can still
make out forms.
The Vong swing and thrust wildly. Two hit his banded
shield and one misses. But the leader who jumped from the
roof gets a lucky strike and impales Kell in his right arm.
The massive 14 point blow immediately breaks his right arm
and it becomes limp. Kell screams in pain and shock.
Z'leyra moves south through the barn wall and glances back
to the right and sees no Vong. Glancing south she plans to
head to the other buildings. But then she hears a scream to
the left and glances east. She sees a sand whirlwind about 50
feet away or so and hears someone yell. Behind that vortex
is Will.
Will fires his bow at one Vong and hits in the back. But
even at this close range the strike is weak and doesn't penetrate
his rear armor.
The Vong continue to take damage from the whirlwind. Though now
some have taken severe damage the Vong know Kell is also badly
hurt and feel blood lust.
Kell dropping his spear onto the ground can't use it with one
hand. He now realizes he is severely wounded and even a light
blow could kill him. He begins to back up and raises his shield
in front of him to block any moves. Blood swirls among the winds
and now colors the brown, gray winds with streaks of red making
it look like a bleeding tornado.
Now the Vong are outside the vortex and makes it harder to
enter. They have about a 20% chance to do so. All four even
though wounded and ignoring Will charge knowing their kill is
near. Three of the Vong are repelled by the whirlwind winds and
thrown to the side. But one enters. He thrusts his spear and
the shield blocks the blow.
Z'leyra feels conflicted. Someone is inside that whirlwind
and likely retreating due to injury. Her plan was to scout the
other buildings but they are a few hundred feet away. She maybe
needed here. She begins to move quickly toward the Vong.
Kell considers a heat spell to help the situation but if he
drops his shield he could be killed. With no right arm to
gesture with his attempt is futile.
Now as if someone blew the calvary horn Strie'bog and Unali
get finally in range. Both separate and take paths left and
right of the whirlwind.
With magical dagger in hand Unali rides full charge right
at one of the Vong thrown out. The charge of the horse and her
magical dagger, which Z'leyra made, along with the strike location
is massive. The dagger hits where his heart would be for a human.
The 30 plus points of damage kills the already weak Vong instantly
before he hits the ground.
Strie'bog not using a full charge dismounts a few feet
away and with Axe charges one Vong as well. He swings his
axe but fails to strike the creature.
Far behind those at the wagon notice the whirlwind and isn't
sure what is going on inside it. But then they see Unali
and Strie'bog finally reach there and help out what has to
be Kell inside the whirlwind.
Arawn and Fremea also notice the battle going on and watch
intently as they continue to bandage the Alfar's wound. When
the whirl becomes red Arawn feels concerned but hasn't a clue
what is going on inside it.
Those at the wagon area now notice the barn loft east door open.
Two Vong are standing there. The one from the roof who held the
swarm weapon and the other Arawn fought. The other one must
still be knocked out. Both Vong watch the scene below.

Next Update...Friday...
GM: Admin mistake by the dwarves. I said Will did recast the
invisibility spell but obviousl ywhile insubstantial can't
cast any other magic but travel powers. So wasn't done.
GM: Arawn - Based on wounds, time and such. The next 3 phases
will be 1-finish bandaging 2-cast healing 3-clean up
the gear. So plan for 2 after that. Unless you want
to stop the healing and such? You still have not warned
Fremea of the Vong, swarm like you wanted since she got on
the scene a phase before the end of the update time.
So if you do warn type up the dialogus so I can type it.
But that will also delay the healing casting time.
Fremea - Sorry the teleport failed and I could've emailed
you over the weekend to see if recast but got distracted
and kept forgetting. Plus I figure you just may need the
mana later (I've seen the full script!) I will assume
phase 1 will be help bandage. After that it is up to
Arawn. So you can't help much. If you still go with the
plan to teleport to barn. I will do so as you outlined
previously to the back of the barn. If not let me know.
Kell - Wow. Good plan. It was really. It did damage all
of the Vong but the one darn Vong got a lucky roll a deadly
hit and then he rolled the max damage (actually it was
severe hit). So your a few points from death. The
problem is the massive damage was to the right arm. It
was so much it could've severed the arm. The dice was
lucky there. It only was broken. But now the arm is
useless till healed. The whirlwind is still active and
you have shield. But one hit and your a dead merchant.
Now you have help though. The flaw was in the spell
description. It does say the WW allows to move rapidly.
But I also read it as being centered around the caster.
Since your on the ground it doesn't raise you up. You would
have to do a lev spell to do that as planned. I think the
jinn/peri one can fly so their WWs are like that but you
don't fly unless I missed something. So that was the
one flaw. I took the opening. :) Now the problem is
with your massive arm wound your losing blood. you could
be knocked out in a few phases. But the WW will last
for MINUTES after that so folks may not be able to help
you and that is a bad situation. So what now? Blame
Alex/Angel for his interpretation for the spell so if
you kill him that's fine but not me/Ju! :)
Unali - will have you dismount and fight with both daggers.
I will assume you do not enter the Whirlwind due to damage.
Will - Sorry bad roll on that last arrow. Even with the
nice back side mods and such. Dice. Your insubstantial
you can enter the WW with no problem.
Z'leyra - original plan to go south but I figure you want
to change it? Let me know. I was going to have you as
per plan teleport to the next building. But with the
yell from Kell I stopped. Not online so can't ask.
GM: Plan for 5 phases so folks still riding can get closer. If
Kell dies though I'll stop the update immediately for change
of plans - ie a rescue. Wagon team still has 18 or so phases
to get to the barn area. See the below distances. I have
removed the larger field map as no longer really a need.
I also removed the barn map for now.
Active spells - [If not listed spell ended]
Arawn - Mana Shield, Armor
Kell - Elemental Pact, Whirlwind
Raban - Bless
Whitney - Blindness [Failure]
Will - Levitation, Insubstantial
Z'leyra - Orient Self, Levitate, Invisibility,
Insubstantial, Luck
Spells to end - Mana Shield - Arawn [Next update]
GM: to sum up, Kell badly hurt almost critical. Three Vong remain
outside the barn front though wounded. One unwounded was last
saw in the barn 1st floor. One on the second floor knocked
out by Arawn. Two now stand in the 2nd floor loft window.
One of those likely wounded from previous combat. Hopefully
I'll have time to work on update for Friday. Was so short
of time ran out. If I get enough actions I can work on it
maybe Wednesday night?
