[Recap]
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
As Z'leyra does her best to neutralize the acid and to stop the
damage she asks "The only spell I know of that will heal ....
GM: Ack.
From Raban: [Re: actions]
<OUCH! bad acid burns, more than I expected, Nasty. Poor Raban
the amount of damage ruined any plans he may have had. Raban
missed or Wormy would have died much sooner. PnP went a bit
overboard on that acid, do you need a wormy that digests prey
in seconds? So who weaponized the worm.. what is next spitting
it on people! LOL <Role play right now is simple... do not move
cause everything hurts, especially parts he doesn't want hurt!
Good news is he could be totally healed in a week but better
if magic is used.
GM: Ack. The EE hasn't changed since v1 it looks like. The 2d10
per phase is same. I can see it though. A worm 100 feet
long sensing only objects 300+ pounds is going after a big
snack not a simple kitty cat. So you figure A horse could
be a typical meal. A worm eating such snacks would need
quick digestion thus the fast acting acid. He also eats
earth thus needs that acid to kill the sand and rocks or
he'd be clogged up and need a gastro doc.
From Whitney: [Re: Actions]
Whitney studies the burns over her shoulder while she works,
"Regeneration would do it, too, although he wouldn't be...
[*** Z'leyra quote deleted for space ***]
GM: Ack.
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
[Argh! Kell wanted to help Raban too. He would run/ride there as
fast as he can since he is on duty. He's not abandoning that
friendly giant, no way. I wasn't clear enough in my last post.]
-----
[Continuing around the campfire, that fateful night.]
Looking at Caladan, Kell seems to share his thoughts. "I do...
--------------------------------
[For the attack on Raban.]
Kell tries to help Raban however he can. Offering any supplies
or to get anything necessary.
GM: Ack. Sorry. I felt that since the other 2 left the camp
was exposed to possible ambush. A simple Int Roll figured
you'd stay to guard the camp till they wake up and thus
did that then you ran which I did. But even if you were
like the other 2 didn't get there in time to help out much
as one good hit might have been it if that as the EE would've
moved in 5 phases regardless. Good back story!
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
As Raban is finally pulled from the maw of the giant worm Arawn
moved next to Z'leyra, assisting her in treating the bard.
Although humans were not his area of expertise it didn't take
such to know that Raban's life was on the line.
[*** Z'leyra/Whitney Quotes deleted for space ***]
(Arawn will cast Healing Mist from Mist Powers (Racial) on
Raban. He'll follow this up with Mana Shield at EL 3 after the
magic has begun healing Raban. He'll cast the shield on Raban
(and himself if he would radiate magic during this time as
well)) As the healing begins Arawn will reply to Z'leyra,
GM: Ack. Correct. Teaching innate magic is hard to do since the
gestures aren't really known and some of the words are missing
its more intuitive so even you might not know the full details
of the magic.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra thanks Arawn "Thank you. I have also studied as a...
GM: Ack.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
[*** Z'leyra Quote deleted for space ***]
<It is good to see someone who knows to look for side effects of
spells. It is so embarrassing to heal someone to death. The new
regen is even more dangerous! But either allows the caster to
supply mana in place of the Enl loss to keep the person alive.
So in Raban's case an El0 regen spell could use hundreds of mana
LOL
GM: Ack. I'll have to re-read the spell.
From Whitney: [Re: Actions]
Whitney shakes his head, "Nah, the caster can compensate...
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
I mentioned that Arawn would cast Healing Mist followed by Mana
Shield. This is only if Raban is so close to dying that time
doesn't permit a Mana Shield first.
If Arawn or Z'leyra can tell that Raban has time to permit it
Arawn would cast Mana Shield first as they are not too far from
the capital. He'll also cast the Mana Shield at max EL instead
of EL 3.
If the healing spell is cast first Arawn will suggest moving
camp immediately in case sensors near the capital are sensitive
enough to pick things up from a few leagues away.
GM: Ack. Would defeat purpose of shielding magic after you cast it.
:) It could delay pinpointing magic but once magic is detected.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
<Do not forget some 'magic' has already been done. Raban flew.
Now that is not actually a spell so could be harder to detect.
[*** Arawn Quote deleted for space ***]
GM: Ack. Harder yes. But I did that or you'd be dead now. If
you were inside one more phase you'd be worm food in more ways
than not under the ground. I felt you could've tried to
move outside the worm through the hole and maybe survive
outside between the side of the worm and shaft tunnel edge
but could suffocate so felt the flight was the best option.

[New Stuff]
[Julis 8th, 1634TH]
[Location: 14 miles west of Jinquo]
[Event: Day of Monk attack]
[Location: Camp on the plains]
[Time: 7:45pm]
The discussion of the day's events including the moral grounds
on betrayal and justice continues around the campfire. Caladan
and Farseeker speak of justice and honor.
Looking at Caladan, Kell seems to share his thoughts. "I do not
relish in suffering or pain of others. I do believe in justice
though, sometimes swift and direct. Do the ends ever justify the
means? That is a vital question to me, one I am still deciding."
Sighing and looking around again. "Perhaps Tiehul's former friend,
and our former helper, had his come-around with this." Grinning at
that thought very quickly, then turning serious again.
"Why did I offer to kill this traitor? Because I was betrayed. A
serious betrayal. I am still seeking the betrayers, I have it
narrowed down but don't know for certain. Several years ago my
younger brother, Swansi, and I were working our overland trading
business. It was our largest caravan to date. Thirteen fully
loaded wagons, lots of merchandise. Lots of profit. Whilst I like
and encourage healthy competition, both in sales and more, others
don't. Our business was cutting into the other businesses. As you
all know, not everyone is honorable." Kell is fidgeting at this
point, unsure what to do with his hands. As he speaks he takes
out some cards and fiddles with them.
"We had just finished the outbound portion of the trip. All
went well. The wagons loaded with cargo to return to Ba'Ru we
left. With this much cargo we had a large guard. Sixteen in all,
not including my younger brother Swansi and I." Taking a deep
breath, trying to shuffle the cards but instead of them staying
the clean pattern as usual, they go askew. "Plus there were the
wagon drivers and some of their families. Some general workers
for the cargo and so on. It was a very large caravan." Looking
around at the faces in the fire, surveying reactions and trying
to control his emotions.
"They attacked far from Ba'Ru. Heavily armed and all on
horseback. At least twenty of them; these couldn't be basic
bandits. Those aren't bad odds, our guards and Swansi and I were
all battle-tested and prepared. Until the traitors turned. Six of
our guards turned on us." Kell raises his voice, full of passion,
"Six! Those dogs had been with us over a year, eating, sleeping,
gambling, living, we thought they were good friends." In a quiet,
sad voice, "Good friends...." back to normal voice, "With the
betrayal the battle turned immediately. From twenty versus
eighteen of us, to over twenty six versus only ten of us."
"We fought bravely. We fought hard. There was a wizard on their
side, and that wizard and I countered each other so magic made no
difference. The fighting was intense. And we died. Almost all of
us. I was the only survivor. I only lived because of my helmet, I
took a massive hit from a six and a half foot tall, flaming red-
haired warrior to my head. It cut my spear in half and nearly cut
my head in half too. Luckily my helmet saved my life. With the
amount of blood pouring down my face he thought I was dead, not
just unconscious. Otherwise I'm sure he or someone else would
have cut my throat."
"I was found and rescued before I bled to death and returned to
survey the slaughter. Everyone else was dead, just left there for
the vultures. There was Tan, the guard commander with his arm off.
There were the archer brothers from Katai, Kasi and Chan. Peter.
Young Gass that was learning his father's trade, and Candle his
father. More dead."
"Then I found Swansi. Dead. His head clean off." Pausing at
this, taking a moment to gather himself, looking down at the fire.
In a moment the half-elf continues, "There was only one attacker
that might do that, the red haired giant with the great sword."
"Because of the betrayal, it was all gone. My brother, and
friends, all killed. They had taken the caravan too, not that
that mattered with all the dead."
"Ever since then I've been alone not wanting to find then loose
anyone else. I've searched for the people that attacked us. I will
find them. And I've grown to despise traitors. Loosing your brother
and almost everyone that you care for, well, that'll do it...
Those traitors killed most of us in the initial turning."
Taking a deep drink from his mug, Ha'Kell then finishes for
now, "That is why I've been travelling alone and why I hate
traitors. Tiehul's former second reminded me of those guards that
turned on us, that betrayed us to death. All of us, over thirty of
us. Not to mention the caravan, cargo, profits, and all that. That
was minor compared to the deaths of the guards, wagon drivers, and
families that came with us. The traitor deserved to die."
Caladan listens intently to the half-elf speak of his past.
When it is finally over and quiet blankets the camp he speaks
up. "We have all been betrayed sometime in our lives. I am
certain everyone here could cite examples. But, " he raises
a hand to stop any protest, "this isn't mean to demean your own
story. Even as a group we have been betrayed. Going back a couple
years ago we ran into trouble by a traitor. Right now who knows there
could be another traitor among us. There could be a person who
worships secretly the more notorious gods. But as a group we must
learn to trust each other and help each other. Right now we aren't
here for Unali or Chion or even the High Elder. We are here to
help us all and our respective homelands. A single goal is our
mission and in that regard we are bound to see hardships. As to
Tiehul I think he was very honorable in what he did. Who among
us would bring their fellow comrade to a group like us, strangers
no doubt, to be killed? Would you Kell take Fremea or Arawn if
they betrayed us and then offer them to be killed? There is a fine
line between justice and revenge. Justice is done through either
legal methods or if there is no recourse moral grounds. What
happened today some might consider out-right wrong on moral grounds
while others see it as justice. To each person it is their choice.
I always take the high ground as my master taught me and the spirits
dictate. I know after this life we are tested as we are now in
our present state. Gods see what we do and how we act. Spirits
abound everywhere all around us also watching. These Katai people
believe in something called karma which simplified means what
goes around comes around. We should think before we act."
Zhou nods, "I knew the men had to die. Even the one bounty
hunter that remained. Even the traitor we either had to kill or
Tiehul would have to. I would not put Tiehul through that. But
I was disappointed in one person. When I give orders that Tiehul
is to keep his horse." He glares at Ben'dar. "That is what I mean.
If I can't depend on you following that simple instruction how
can I depend on you to work with us in the bigger threat ahead?
Do we need to leave you behind as a risk to our safety or will
you follow instructions by myself or Unali whom the party has
agreed to be leaders for this mission?"

[Julis 9th, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, west of Jinquo]
As the farmers leave the camp they continue to convey their thanks
to those who supported them like Arawn, Farseeker and such. They
speak of local game if the party is in need of hunting. One even
speaks of a small stream not far from camp that has small fish
that can be obtained with some minor fishing skills and worms.
Worms these past few days haven't been hard to miss. With
all the rains and mud puddles many come to the surface and
many birds and other animals have a feast. In fact this evening
Raban steps in a small mud puddle with half a dozen tiny black
worms in the puddle wriggling around. As his boots crush the
worms a shiver runs down his spine for some odd reason.
-------------------------
[Julis 18th, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, west of Jinquo]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 71-95]
[Time: 12:38am]
In less than 30 seconds a Earth Eater senses the movement of
the large frame of Raban's footsteps. It draws upwards making
a wide network of tunnels underground. It then emerges up and
swallows Raban. Only to find his friends help with Raban's own
ability to kill the worm. The entire action was so quick it
was a blur for Raban. Now Raban lays face down in the grass with
his bottom half open to the cool night. Party members stand all
around watching as Z'leyra begins to heal the giant.
As Z'leyra does her best to neutralize the acid and to stop the
damage she asks "The only spell I know of that will heal this much
damage is Healing Mist...a spell that I do not know. We could rely
on normal healing, but that would be slow and may leave scars. We
could use other healing magic once per day, maybe even twice per
day, but that , while faster, may also leave scars and will take
several days at least. Or one who knows Healing Mist could cast it
and heal Raban completely, likely leaving no scars. Anyone
planning on casting it?"
"In any event I would like instruction in Healing Mist so that
in the future I may cast it when needed."
As Raban is finally pulled from the maw of the giant worm Arawn
moved next to Z'leyra, assisting her in treating the bard. Although
humans were not his area of expertise it didn't take such to know
that Raban's life was on the line.
Whitney studies the burns over Z'leyra's shoulder while she
works, "Regeneration would do it, too, although he wouldn't be
doing any... call it craft use... for a few days after.
Unfortunately, neither is in my skill set. But that's rather a lot
of second degree chemical burn damage. If we don't fix him up
good as new before we hit the road, we're going to need to forage
him up some chervil. With that much damage, on the road while he's
healing, he won't avoid infection any other way. Hell, he may not
have that long."
Arawn's face conveyed the seriousness of his demeanor in that
moment. The friendly giant was on death's doorstep and he dared
not waste a moment. "I will do so," he replied as he called upon
the power of his birthright.
Farseeker gets a blanket and lays it on the ground. "Let's move
him here away from the hole. We don't want Arawn's magic to
heal the worm. In fact while he does the healing we should cover
it up. It would be great food for some village for a very long
time but we best not risk bringing attention to the camp. By
sunrise we could have vultures and such."
Once Z'leyra declares Raban stable but still in critical
condition, Raban is moved over to the blanket close to the
campfire. It takes Farseeker, Ben'dar, Chion, Strie'bog,
Kell, Kiet, Whitney and Will to move the large giant. As
they do they give him privacy by covering him with a blanket.
Unali and Fremea know the giant would want not to be stared
unless he was awake and posing so they head back to camp.
Leaving Z'leyra as Healer to oversee the giant's large frame
but as a healer not as a female. Of course even she can't help
notice the physical specimen in front of her.
Arawn instructs the party to leave the area so they don't get
affected by the mist and to allow them to work. Z'leyra
remains close by while other stand some distance away.
Arawn quickly casts a Mana Shield upon himself and then Raban.
As Z'leyra does final treatments to the most severe burns on
the body, Arawn begins to pray and bless the immediate area and
future in hopes of divine help. He then places one hand on the
lower back of Raban and the other on Raban's shoulders. He then
begins to cast the Healing Mist spell by sheer concentration.
Within a few seconds a green fog-like mist begins to surround
the large frame from head to toe. It begins to fall about two
inches above his head and seems to make Raban's form blurry to
normal vision. Both sit back and watch the mist work as Z'leyra
cleans up her ointments and other materials.
Arawn then considers teaching the magic to the healer-shaman.
Though it will be difficult teaching things he doesn't even know
the full details some details could be given in basic ways. "I
am willing to teach such magics to a healer such as yourself but
I do not know if such magics will come easily to you. The
principles of shamanism and sidh magic are different but we will
see what might be accomplished. As is, though, it is innate to me.
I must seek guidance from the elder sidh to learn the spell in a
way that I might be able to pass it on."
Z'leyra thanks Arawn "Thank you. I have also studied as a
magician. Indeed, I already know and have had occasion to use
the Elder spell Concealing Mist and other Elder and Sidh spells
including Healing. Yes, Regeneration is another spell I have not
yet learned, though hope to learn in the not too distant future.
I had not mentioned it because I am not sure that Raban's spirit
would take the stress of such a large amount of regeneration as I
have been taught that the spell can destroy the spirit if the
amount of healing is greater than the spirit has strength to
spare."
Nearby Whitney hears the two healers speak of spells. Whitney
shakes his head, "Nah, the caster can compensate with mana, or
even end it before it's fatal. Not ideal, but for this sort of
damage, it's about all Human ... specialists... have to use
without exotic training. But it can drain both patient and
healer."
The green mist continues to dance and fall upon the giant for
some minutes. Finally six minutes later the mist begins to
fade away. A few seconds later both healers start to explore
his body for the wounds and find them all healed. Both look
at each other and smile.
If the smelly herb hadn't decayed days ago Arawn would have
used it to wake up the giant. But with some help the body
is turned over and blanket covers most of his lower body from
the chest down. Soon Raban wakes up and sees a pointy ear form
in the campfire and wonders if it a death goblin come to take
his soul. Then he glances over and sees a female checking his
hands and realizes it Z'leyra. Raban quickly takes stock
of the last few minutes. His last memory is that of him flying
out the worm and hitting the shaft wall. He then recalls the
burns and begins to check himself. Immediately he checks his
face and then with the other hand reaches below his waist to check
his favorite body areas. With a relief he exhales and then sits
up. Amazed at the healing he looks to Z'leyra but she nods to
Arawn meaning that the Alfar must've done the work not her.
Raban then realizes his clothing is torn and now strewn with
holes. His leather jerkin and pants are in bad shape and now
instead of a well dressed Bard looks like a beggar. His boots
and underwear are in good shape however. He also discovers his
dagger is missing and presumed still inside the worm or lost
in the shaft somewhere. But he can easily get another dagger
from party supplies. His jerkin he could probably do some repairs
but his pants are likely beyond hope due to the acid damage and
the protection they did for his boots and underwear. Hit belt
tougher hide took light damage It is also good that this night
he didn't have his cloak on. Raban gets a spare jerkin and pants
from his horse and then rejoins the party. He notices some
of them are quiet while others speak about the big worm. He
then realizes he might have been quite exposed to the entire
party and wonders who all saw what areas they saw?
The Days roll on...
-------------------------
[Julis 18th, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, North of Katai City]
[Weather: Cloudy, Temperature: 71-95]
As the party roams over the harsh plains they continue to
zig and zag between large tracts of farms and homesteads.
Normally even the peasant farmers get upset when they find a
wagon going over their crops and even show their anger at the
nobles inside the wagon. For the most part the scouting done
by Ben'dar, Kiet and Kell allow for more harmless travels over
the last week and the future week to come.
Even this far north of Katai city the hills in the far distance
seem a wild wilderness where hills roll into mountains and
mountains into desert and desert into the vile L'p'nth tribes.
Not only because of being this close to Katai and L'p'nth but
the wilderness demands three sentries at all times night and
day as the danger increases.
around 10am this morning another storm rolls in from the hills
and it rains and thunders for about 20 minutes. By now the party
is so used to it they just track on through the mud.
-------------------------
[Julis 19th, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, North of Katai City]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 74-87]
During the last leg of going west over the plains north of
Katai yet another high storm comes about near 10am. But
this one is light with the rain and lightning. The difference
today is it being so high drops hail stones the size of marbles
everywhere and bruising horses and people.
-------------------------
[Julis 20th, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, North of Katai City]
[Weather: Cloudy, Temperature: 74-96]
The party begins to wind south in the general direction of
Shantou province. This night at around 7pm a drizzle rain comes
down yet again upon the party. Some start to believe this
land is cursed by the rain gods.
-------------------------
[Julis 21st, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, West of Katai City]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 63-95]
Another uneventful day brings yet another drizzle rain storm
around 11:30am just as the party settles in for a quick lunch.
-------------------------
[Julis 22nd, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, West of Katai City]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 63-93]
Couple hours after sunrise and breakfast the party encounters
a large mounted force of 16 riders. They are all well dressed
and carrying a lot of supplies. Many are well dressed and
well armed with many melee and missile quality weapons. Upon
closer contact the group learns from their representative that
they are a hunting party from the local noble. They speak some
time with Zhou to see why he is here and if the party is
hunting on their lands. After a lengthy 25 minute discussion
the noble party finally leaves satisfied the Zhou party is
not a threat to the local noble.
Near 5pm a rain storm prevents the party moving much further
and delays the overall journey by 2 hours as the mud and rain
prevents the horses from moving fast.
[Julis 23rd, 1634TH]
Around 1:41am Strie'bog, Whitney and Will are on sentry duty
this evening. As Strie'bog patrols the perimeter on foot the
other two stay close to camp.
About 200 feet away, Strie'bog suddenly is burst upon by 3
large boars on forage duty. One with large tusks charge him
while the other two seem to avoid him. But Strie'bog who has
good night vision is able to pull his bow ready and fire on
the charging boar. After two quick shots he is able to kill
one weighing about 50 pounds. But by the time he inspects the
body the other two have fled the area.
The morning the party feast well with boar food for breakfast
and later for lunch. Of course it isn't till later that
Strie'bog recalls the noble hunting party protecting their lands.
But since they never told of their area of influence it is hard
to tell if any offense was done. But since there were no witnesses
the party is in no danger.
-------------------------
[Julis 23rd, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, West of Katai City]
[Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 67-86]
For two hours the party continues toward Shantou province
over the plains. Then around 9am the highway is finally seen
and the party takes it the rest of the trip all the way into
Shantou city. The party tries to straighten up the wagon and
their clothing as they are now only about 50 miles to Shantou.
In the afternoon around 1pm rains again fall and cause a big
quick flash flood in the area. But the highway maintains the
control over the elements and doesn't slow the party down at
all for this leg of the trip.
-------------------------
[Julis 24th, 1634TH]
[Location: Upper Katai Plains, West of Katai City]
[Weather: Cloudy, Temperature: 66-98]
In the final day of travel the city margins grow hour by
day from small farms to large farms to estates and entire
residential districts. Rains again roll through three times
this day and help to distract natives from eyeing the wagon
too much.
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Monday...
GM: Happy New Year! Hope not everyone is too drunk to read this.
Aside from those drunk Dwarves in my payroll.
GM: All right the party has moved on and now arriving in the
province. I was hoping to do more like for the boar
and noble hunting party encounter. But time and the
holidays didn't allow it. Oh well. Not critical things
just random encounters. Also didn't have time to do the
skills so will do that for monday.
GM: Also was going to have another encounter but no time to do
it tonight. I may insert it for gee whiz purposes on
next update.
