[Recap]
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Lin (aka Frema) will talk to the tailor when he comes to check
on Raban and get his measurements.
Talk to the tailor, "You will make sure he is still able to move
quickly, I do not want a slow bodyguard when I call for him.
Understood? He is to have better traveling clothes, along with
one set that will represent me when I am in the presence of other
Noble families. You will listen what he needs in clothing
otherwise, as I trust him on representing ME correctly." She
throws a glance in Raban's direction to make sure he understands
that his appearance is very important to how she looks. She will
then take out 2 gold coins (Katai) and hand them to the tailor.
"This is also to be done as quickly as possible, as my father
is not sure how long we will stay here, so being done today will
be your answer." Staring at him, tempting him to defy her.
She will keep an eye on the tailor to see his reaction to a kid
telling him what to do and the gold that is placed in his palm
for doing what she said.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Beyond making sure that her healing supplies are more than
adequate and looking at jewelry and herbs available and their
prices, Z'leyra will get fitted for some fine silk clothing, (2
dresses: one dark, one light; 4 tunics and 2 leggings).
GM: Ack. I need to know what the healing supplies you buy are.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
<Not much for me to say on Raban's behalf. Just Daily Bath at
same time each day or maybe twice a day? Forgot price but he
should be able to afford it.
<Tailor scene- Raban needs some clothing proper for a Nobles
Guard and the heat. I would assume good materials or better but
Silk may not be appropriate?
<Any question relative to what styles of clothing he will defer
to Lin Mong (Fremea) to decide as long as it does not interfere
with his movement. <Hopefully she will not dress him up too badly
---------------
[From: John Hooten <jhooten at windstream.net>]
<Wow I like it! Imperial enough to do the job and covers the
basics needed too.
<But it is the truth of the role, Raban is decoration until he
needs to act. He is a doll to dress up to impress people with
HER importance.
GM: Ack. No teddy bear bowties or play doll uniforms huh? BTW
your second email didn't make it. I had to approve it. See
the above email address. If you post from there you will
need to subscribe that email address. Just a FYI.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Unali- Oops! Forgot to send a post with Arawn's response
regarding the map before the last update.
"Of course, Lady Au." Arawn replies.
-----------------------------------------------------------
- "Any information on the buyer and, regarding the Yank...
GM: Ack.

[New Stuff]
[Julis 24th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province, Shantou city]
The night before in the first formal meal the party has had
in over 2 weeks, Unali asks Arawn for his sketch.
"Of course, Lady Au." Arawn replies.
Excusing himself from the table he made his way to his room and
pulled out one of the copies of the drawing. He looked it over and
decided that if no news was found this time around that it would be
worth another divination to gain further insight into this
location. Rolling it up he moved downstairs where he handed it
with a slight bow to Unali.
----------------
[Julis 25th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province, Shantou city]
A couple hours after leaving the inn Kell finds the tailor who
can do custom fittings. Z'leyra decides to shop for some silk
clothing of her own. She is about 6 inches taller than most
Katai but around the same body frame. The tailor recommends
some styles of clothing he has for her. He will have to let
down some of the pants but the tunics should be easy to find.
In fact he finds several sets and Z'leyra tries them on in the
small cramped dressing area. The silk Katai style clothing
is good but the pants are too short for now. She will definitely
have to improve that.
The tailor informs the prices as 14 BB for each tunic and
3 copper for the pants as they are silk and the extra mending
needed to be done. Kell tries to haggle but the tailor only
reduces it slightly. He settles on a final price of 10 Copper
for the whole amount. Z'leyra pays the 1 silver and asks to
have them delivered when the tailor goes to the inn. He
says he will do that but should be a couple hours before they
are fixed for her size.
It is around 3pm when the tailor arrives at the Blue Crystal
Inn. He enters the tavern and looks around. Based on his
description of a giant it shouldn't be hard to find him.
But of course he doubts the true size of the man as a purely
exaggerated story.
In the corner Fremea sits in the shadows up against the wall.
She is listening to two large landholders. They are talking
about the growth of the population and how controls should be
given to lessen the load on resources. They complain about
squatters and homeless people invading their properties all
over the city and how the guards seem to not care. They are
clearly disgruntled but dare not to discuss open threats to
the powers that be.
On the other side of Fremea to the right is Raban sitting at
another table chatting it up with a young artisan who paints
landscapes and noble portraits. He rolls on the charm and she
swoons to them with little difficulty or desire to ignore them.
Raban is aware of Fremea nearby but guarding her all day without
some fun can be boring. The child should tend to her book she
is reading whatever it is.
But even Fremea doesn't know the book as she is only holding
it to cover her eavesdropping. She simply selected it from
a few the clerk had. She believes it is on local poetry but
hasn't paid attention to it.
The tailor scans the crowd and approaches a rather large military
official and asks him his name. "Toban Nu?" The military man
shrugs and says no. Soon the tailor spots Raban smiling at the
woman and stroking her hand. He approaches and asks, "Toban Nu?"
Raban absently doesn't hear this as he is explaining how best
to play the mandolin in front of a fireplace with a single girl
listening and no one else.
Fremea slaps Raban on the back with her book and this gets
Raban out of his tunnel vision. Raban looks over to the tailor
and he asks his name again. Raban nods and stands up. The
middle aged tailor steps back at seeing how large the man
is and gulps. The tailor drops his bag of gear and stutters.
"I was sent here by a Mister Swan to take measurements."
Lin stands and crosses her arms as if to show he is late. "You
will make sure he is still able to move quickly, I do not want a
slow bodyguard when I call for him. Understood? He is to have
better traveling clothes, along with one set that will represent
me when I am in the presence of other Noble families. You will
listen what he needs in clothing otherwise, as I trust him on
representing ME correctly." She throws a glance in Raban's
direction to make sure he understands that his appearance is very
important to how she looks. She will then take out 2 gold coins
(Katai) and hand them to the tailor. "This is also to be done as
quickly as possible, as my father is not sure how long we will
stay here, so being done today will be your answer." Staring at
him, tempting him to defy her.
Lin will keep an eye on the tailor to see his reaction to a kid
telling him what to do and the gold that is placed in his palm for
doing what she said.
The man looks to Raban and then Fremea. He glances down at
the coins and wonders how he could dress this giant of a man
by tomorrow. He'll have to hire more folks to do the sewing.
The two gold could actually go mostly toward those expenses.
But he is somewhat used to these people ordering him away.
He bows toward Lin. "Yes ma'am. One set for travelling and one
for court like duties fit to your obvious good taste and high
station." Lin's expression fails to change as he tries to
flatter her. He pockets the coins. He bows and then says, "
shall we get to it? Say your room?"
Lin considers just having it done here who cares what
happens to her guard even if he had to go half naked in here.
But she sighs and grabs her book and storms off to the stairs.
The tailor glances to Raban who quickly follows and then the
tailor follows behind.
Lin considers her room but believes Shu is still studying some
of her own things or books or maybe asleep. She orders Raban
to head into his room. She plops onto a chair and looks bored.
Soon Toban stands in the center of the room and stretches his
arms out. The tailor grabs some tape from his back and a quill
and scroll. He glances at Toban and wonders if the tape will
be enough. He begins to take the first set of measurements
and record them on his scroll. The tailor can't believe the
size of the man. He has to stand on a chair to get the man's
neck size. He leans in and whispers. "She's a spit fire isn't
she." As he wraps the tape around his neck.
Soon he finishes up. "The arms will be interesting as the
muscles on upper arm has different size from the lower arm.
A big difference compared to most soldiers." He checks his
figures. "You didn't want a hat right? I didn't take the hate
size. Personally with your features a hat would diminish them.
As a professional your face draws them in as the focus. Then
your size and build. I would recommend less flashy colors
like light browns, tans and the like. This way it draws less
attention to an already hard to avoid thing. " He begins to
pack up his things. "it is only about three hours before
sunset if I'm going to do this by tomorrow I should rush back.
I have no time to lose. I will hand deliver the two sets of
clothing tonight. It could be late. I will leave them with
the clerk if this is good?"
The tailor then rushes out as fast as he can to get back to
his shop and hire more girls.
-------------------
Meanwhile on the other side of the city the trio talk to
Saleem. Moments before the fence gets upset and feels
threatened by wizards in his shop, Arawn asks more questions.
Saleem mentioned the Yank brothers selling their warehouses
to a person in the south city.
Arawn follows up, "Any information on the buyer and, regarding
the Yank brothers, do they still have a representative in town?
And can you give directions to their warehouses in town?"
"I doubt they have a representative. But I can give directions.
It is an empty warehouse now. I heard the brothers left town
on a much needed vacation to Katai." Saleem sighs. "I've not
had a vacation myself in years."
Saleem speaks of the odd weapons he found.
The circular bladed weapon intrigued Arawn but he wasn't sure
if it was a Vong weapon. The second weapon, however, he was quite
familiar with. He relied on his training and will to keep a stoic
mask at mention of the Vong item. Arawn asks more about it.
"The circular blade is new to me but I would be interested in
acquiring one or discovering the name of the barbarian tribe if
you know it. But it is the serpent-staff that I find more
intriguing. What do you know of it? Where was it found? And who
was the seller? Perhaps we might be able to track him down for
you if you can give us a lead. I've seen such items before and
desire to find this man's source."
Saleem's eyes flash from anger and his face reddens. "As I
said I don't know the seller. If I find him I will get my
money back or take his hide. If I can't find him and I know
these streets, I doubt you could. Folks visit me everyday
selling small thimbles of rare art to stolen wagons. This
is what I do. I don't keep records or names. A business
like that would not exist long."
Zhou nods, "a matter of trust certainly." The fence nods
curtly to Zhou. "Do you still have the decayed item?" The
man shakes his head.
Then Saleem turns to Arawn, "as to the other blade weapon.
It was the size of a large dinner plate. It was serrated and
very sharp all around. It was worn on the upper arm like a
arm shield. It actually was used as both. It deflects weapons
and can slice bodies. Some skilled jungle barbarians I hear
can spin the blades while they wear it and cause even more
damage. It is a art I do not know. The technology is easy
to make though. The skill is using it without cutting off your
own body parts."
Arawn asks about contacts in the south. Saleem reports it
depends on where the party goes.
"Thank you I'm not sure where just yet but will let you know if
and when it is decided." Arawn replies back.
Zhou nods, "We should know by tomorrow morning in more general
terms."
Arawn asks about maps. After Saleem explains the shop the
trio are in isn't a cartographer's shop, Arawn continues.
Arawn commented to the others, "It might be worth purchasing a
map or two."
Zhou shrugs, "We have several already. But if you wish."
Near the end Arawn finally comes back to the subject of the
baroness. Asking of a name but Saleem doesn't know or seem to
care as it isn't in his business to need to know.
Arawn leans forward and speaks softly, "I had heard something of
a group called the 'Night Demons' that are linked to her
disappearance. They are said to be linked to some sort of unusual
cult in a place 'in between worlds'. Do you know anything of
them?"
"As for the Baroness, could you discover her name and what
business she had in town or else a contact that we might talk to
who would know."
Saleem sits and stares at the three men in front of him. He
suddenly begins to tense and it doesn't take an empath to see
he becomes very nervous. His eyes dart back and forth. He
almost reaches for a dagger the three men know he has hidden
under the desk and likely one in his boot and another likely
in a desk drawer. These type of men seem to need security. But
the man hesitates. He glances at the window at the sunlight
streaming in and then around his spartan room as if looking for
a fly on the wall. Confused the trio just watch this man seem
to consider his next words.
Finally Saleem leans forward and whispers. "We do NOT speak of
such things. Not without good need. They are things to scare
kids into eating their meals or go to bed or behave. But I
have heard stories. The legend of this group is as big as the
legends of old. They are said to be Empire wide. You don't find
them they find you. If they exist," he waves a hand, "and
I'm not saying they do. You should stay clear of them. They
remain cloaked in darkness for a reason and wish to remain that.
That is all I'll say on it."
Arawn begins to consider more questions but when the man seems
to remain stone faced he decides maybe it is best to come back
to this subject later.
Then Arawn asks about magic detection. Saleem goes into a rage
and tries to kick the trio out.
Using his Influence and Rhetoric Arawn will attempt to calm the
man down. "Calm yourself. You need not worry about wizards being
present but as you can tell we have interest in certain items that
could set off detectors. I ask as it would be a waste of time and
resources if we were to purchase from you only to find an item
inadvertently sets off a detector. We might even have need to use
them and if so wanted to know the best way to throw off trackers
should the need to activate them arise."
The man stares at full height to Arawn. By now his bodyguard
has stood and so has Farseeker eyeing each other. Saleem exhales
heavily. "You speak of treason! I may deal in stolen goods but
even those are laws you can get around. Bribes and other methods.
But to get such items is highly highly risky. Only users of
such things would ask ..or dare to ask such things."
Zhou now standing turns to the fence. "My friend here is a bit
new to this land. If you can't help in such matters maybe we
can find others." He walks past Saleem. "Come, we will leave you
to be safe alone."
As Zhou walks toward the door he winks at Farseeker. He isn't
a gambler but bluffs sometimes work. As he reaches for the door
knob, Saleem raises a hand. "Damn you!" With his honor somewhat
at risk as well as his reputation. "What do you want?"
Zhou turns, "We could use knowledge on such devices and maybe
a market for hard to obtain items."
Saleem nods, "the black market is found all over the city. That
isn't the problem. But if you want other things it will take
time and money. For this high of a risk it will take a LOT of
coin." He crosses his arms. "What do you have in mind?"
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Monday...
GM: About all I have time for tonight. I need to add a small
scene for Mark and his buying and email him this weekend
on that. Arawn if you have specific things in mind to
your questions on detectors and such please outline it.
I hope to move us onto night 2 by monday's update. So if
you can finish up all day activities. It seems to be
winding down. If you have more stuff to do please let
me know. If it is a bunch I can delay night 2 till later.
It isn't a vital thing to move it on but some things during
the day could affect night stuff. Cause/effect. We still
have a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on. Fun. :)
So anyone including those in Inns can post final actions
for this day.
