[Recap]
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
As Fremea and Raban walk back towards the wagon, she stops in
mid stride. She is thinking to herself, though not really
realizing she has stopped walking. She wonders why the
destruction of the square when all the parents had to do was
teleport away with their kids like the executioner did. The
mother seemed to have sacrificed herself, yet a true mother of
her kids would do anything to make sure they were with her.
Something was not right to her. This all seemed wrong that the
father was beheaded and no attempt was made to stop it, yet
that is when everything seemed to change after that happened.
Fremea's mind raced to all sorts of points, her training in the
subtlety taking her to places that only seemed to be created by
conspiracy.
Quickly recovering from the thoughts that start to flow from
her mind, she realizes that Raban is looking at her a bit
concerned. "It is ok my giant protector, there is something....
GM: Ack. Good post.
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
Listening to the guards, Ha'Kell starts thinking even more.
"Could all of this just be a distraction? It must be. A....
Staying and helping as much as he can, Kell tries to stay near
the commander to learn all he can. He'll avoid the commander's
notice, but learn all he can. Once he thinks there is nothing
more to learn, or if Will appears to need help, Kell tries to
help Will.
GM: Ack. Cool post.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Figuring that being back out in the alley would be a better
place to either bluff the worker or any guards that might come
Z'leyra quickly walks out to the alley as Arawn closes the inner
door. Once out in the alley she will step to the side looking
around and up as well to see if any are looking.
GM: Ack.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
Raban sighs, "Something is very wrong here, but I cannot...
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
As the door closed Arawn heard the man call out to him. As he
quickly thought over options he watched Z'leyra heading back out
into the alley. He knew that he'd have little time to discuss
plans with the others so he chose to move after her, balancing
an unhurried appearance with enough quickness to, hopefully, make
it to the exit before the man entered the room. Magic could solve
the problem quickly but he couldn't be sure that sensors weren't
in the area so opted for bluffing, or if that failed, a quick
knock-out.
He allowed the others to exit before him, giving time to any
that might wish to take cover and hide. If the man follows and
focuses on Arawn he'll attempt to keep the man turned in such a
way as to keep him from noticing any in the party that are hiding,
especially if it becomes necessary to knock him unconscious if
discussions fail. Arawn will also attempt to carry himself with
the composure and confidence of someone who might actually have
business at the warehouse. However, if someone in the party
signals to Arawn to stay in the room/not follow the others out
then he'll stay in the office and while the man confronts him
maneuver casually through the room in an effort to turn the man's
back to the others in the party..
GM: Ack.
From Will: [Re: Actions]
Will nods his agreement as his thoughts seam to mirror Kell's.
OCC: Sorry for not posting more I've had a lot on my mind lately.
GM: Ack. Something's better than nothing.
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Fremea pokes Raban a in the tummy (almost a stretch for her to
do). "Ok, the wagon, though really I think we need to watch out
for anything tonight."
GM: Ack. Almost didn't get this in time. Whew.

[New Stuff]
[Augado 5th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Pamau Province, Pamau City]
[Time: 4:10pm]
As Fremea and Raban walk back towards the wagon, she stops in
mid stride. She is thinking to herself, though not really
realizing she has stopped walking.
She wonders why the destruction of the square when all the
parents had to do was teleport away with their kids like the
executioner did. The mother seemed to have sacrificed herself,
yet a true mother of her kids would do anything to make sure they
were with her. Something was not right to her. This all seemed
wrong that the father was beheaded and no attempt was made to
stop it, yet that is when everything seemed to change after that
happened.
Fremea's mind raced to all sorts of points, her training in the
subtlety taking her to places that only seemed to be created by
conspiracy.
Quickly recovering from the thoughts that start to flow from her
mind, she realizes that Raban is looking at her a bit concerned.
"It is ok my giant protector, there is something else here that is
not right. Though we both are ashamed at the destruction we could
not prevent to so many innocents, I am not sure it is the magics
that are at fault," she thinks for a second, "If you and I were
the parents would we not have found ways of just disappearing with
the children to protect them and not have them go with anyone else?
I know so, as my parents did once, though they could not escape
the protections in place. No, I believe that this was a
distraction, a very well done one, to make sure something else
big is not seen in the city. Why have a simple family, that
actually didn't do anything, based on the 'charges' read,
executed?" She knows what Raban is going to say, though she stops
quickly. "Yes, yes, they were magic-users and here that means
death. But, they don't do it so publicly and with children usually,
or at least this is the first one I have heard of for a whole
family. No, I believe they were magic-users, yet they were used
to make sure all the people in the town were there to watch it.
Maybe the amount of destruction was more then who ever devised
thought it would be, but I think they wanted it. There is
something else going on. We need to get to who ever we can and
find out what is happening. I think the unwanted guests in our
lands are behind this. They are very smart and they do not use
'magic', they do use it for their own benefit, just as you or I
could use a sword for our own. I am just not sure where we need
to go right now."
She looks at Raban for his input into this matter.
Raban sighs, "Something is very wrong here, but I cannot tell
just what it is. But I am very sure this place is a trap with many
different sides using it. It is best we get far from here before
we get dragged into even more troubles. Returning to the Wagon
should be a good idea, the others will go there soon enough."
Back in the square, Kell begins to stir his mind full of thoughts.
Listening to the guards, Ha'Kell starts thinking even more. "Could
all of this just be a distraction? It must be. A very elaborate
distraction for something else. Trying to raise the common man's
fear and paranoia of magic. This leads to a non-magic society, but
required magicians to generate the fear. Hmm. This fits the Vong
hatred of magic, but are they working with magic users as well?
At least a small group of them. We need to look into this. Yes,
the Vong may be working with some magicians directly, or through
the nobles they have on their side. Playing both sides of Katai to
take control and then exterminate magic. Then why do the Vong hate
magic so much? Why? They seem to fear it as well, even though
they are strong against it. Or do they hate magic, is that a
wrong assumption? So much to consider."
Will follows with his eyes the suspect woman who slinks down the
north east street going east deeper into the city. He glances over
to the left to see if he can find Raban and the others. When he
finds no giant he looks for Kell. That distinctive hat denotes him
as a foreigner. It doesn't take long for Will to find him trying
to get near the guards.
Down the street Raban and Fremea consider their options. They
clearly stick out more than the other two. Raban scans the street
and people. He wonders where that man he notices went. He
regrets not following him but he is long out of sight. Raban pays
attention to reactions of folks. As usual he sees the frightened
looks and the curious gawkers. Standing still in this street is
like wearing a bullseye on your back. Maybe for every 10 who
glance to him at least 3 do the usual reaction. This is actually
lower than usual as in most cases up to 6 out of 10 might react
with awe or caution. The bells for alarms and help have been
sent out for some minutes. Maybe Raban finally figures that
something more drastic is distracting them from the big man among
short people. Then it hits him if this chaos is distracting them
to a giant, maybe Fremea's words ring true. Maybe there was some
distraction but for what purpose and for whom?
Fremea watches the stores and buildings. There is just too many
people to stare at and figure out who is watching whom. Hundreds
of people going this way and that. She scans the roofs and the
store fronts. As one might expect she notices several stores
start to close up from the chaos. Those stores who stayed open for
selling food, general store items and even macabre souvenirs are
the ones closing up. She smiles briefly at the though of them
losing business on a disaster.
Fremea pokes Raban in the tummy (almost a stretch for her to
do). "Ok, the wagon, though really I think we need to watch out
for anything tonight."
Back in the square Will walks slowly through the massing crowd
toward Kell.
As the minutes pass Kell realizes it is harder to follow and
listen and act the good helper. He sees blood on his hand and
tries to wipe it with a torn tunic from some guy he helped moments
ago. The military commander is moving fast back and forth and
around the stage. It is becoming very difficult to hear them over
the din of other noise.
Finally Kell walks purposely near the group to hear what they
are saying.
"...round up all the strangers and foreigners. We should round
up those who know the streets like beggars and vendors. They will
have been more observant..."
Kell reaches Will and then both turn around and head back as if
to cross the square.
"...told there was a giant about 10 feet tall they say and -"
one guard says.
"You have been drinking again Xun?"" The military commander
shakes his head.
"No! He was ...over..there..he must've left. The archers
tell me he towered over the others. Then there was that
strange one with the Cerulean style hat. He was..." The
guard begins to scan the crowd.
That's when Kell realizes the guard must mean him. He knows
his hair is long. He quickly turns around and takes his hat
off. Placing it on front of him he begins to briskly walk away
to the nearest street exit. Will follows as well. Time for
listening in is obviously up. At least they don't have a good
description of him.
Moving briskly east Kell places the hat back onto his head.
Both men walk east and then start scanning the street for the
giant who had to have come this way.
Within almost two minutes later Raban is easily seen down one
side street. Will and Kell quickly jog toward them and all four
begin to move back toward the hotel where the wagon is. All
four move quickly, especially with Raban in front parting the
crowd, in grim silence.
[Time: 4:15pm]
----------------------
[Time: 4:10pm]
Z'leyra being the last one in decides best to retreat back to
the alley on the west side of the building. She walks with her
leather armor underneath. She has her short sword, few daggers
and sling ready in case of action.
Inside the office Arawn turns to push the other three out
but they don't seem to understand quickly. As they move
toward the rear door the inner door opens.
Chion and Ben'dar didn't seem to budge at all. In fact
Chion is turned toward the wall and runs his finger along a
shelf to inspect a thick layer of dust. He shakes his head.
Chion has a sword at his hip and his sais on his belt.
Ben'dar with no armor looks grim and focused. He stands with
only his spear in his arsenal right now and is clearly the bigger
threat of the three. He stares at the man at the door and almost
growls.
Arawn with his Elven scale mail under his clothes turns slowly
to face the man. He looks bored and frowns. He has no weapons
on his body and knows his hands is his weapons.
Arawn speaks quickly, "Can I help you?"
"Excuse me? What are YOU doing here?" The man crosses his arms
which are huge built up muscles. The man stands a good 6 feet
tall and about 250 pounds. A large man for a large job it seems.
On his belt is a knife or dagger of some sort.
Arawn quickly explains he was here to inspect the warehouse. The
man continues to stare at the three and Arawn waves toward Chion
who is the only native here. The man nods figuring that must be
his patron. "You are? So why not come through the front door?"
Arawn explains he was given a key. Arawn tries to read his
body language and emotions and finds that it isn't hard. The
man is clearly suspicious and alert as well as confused. "Not
that it should matter but those I serve gave me a key to access
the building. If you have a problem with that I suggest you take
it up with them."
Another man approaches behind the other man. The first man leans
in and whispers but even Arawn's keen ears can't pick it up. The
first man nods. He turns to Arawn. "Who sent you?"
Arawn mentions in the service for Baron Ka. This causes a spike
in the man's emotions. Arawn reads this as good but the man only
raises an eyebrow.
"He did?" The man taps his chin and Arawn reads possible intent
to get upset or maybe its defiance?
Arawn glances to Chion and hopes he speaks but he doesn't. Arawn
risks it. The Alfar then mentions Nom Amor.
The second man behind the first speaks. "Why didn't you say so.
Come. We'll show you what we have planned for the hour."
On the other side of the building Z'leyra stands but can't hear
what is going on as it is a couple hundred feet away from the
door. She hears no clank of swords or grunts of fighting. Could
they have bluffed their way through?
The first man walks inside and to the desk. he gestures to
the three to move inside. He slinks to the door and closes it
while glancing out of it briefly. Ben'dar is the last to enter
the warehouse and stares behind him not trusting the man.
The second man walks the men toward stacks of crates some
6-8 feet tall. "As you know we have plans for this plan. the
last minute changes were set in place..."
When the office door is closed and the large first man blocks
the door the second man continues.
"First thing is first." The second man turns to Arawn. "The
identification password?"
Those at the front door two other men approach and now hold
large clubs. The man behind them at the office door pulls his
dagger out and holds it to his side.
"The door was locked. I doubt you have a key. We don't
know anyone by the name of Nom. So unless you have the
password and key to show us...this may be a good place to die."
From his hip he draws a dagger of his own and points his head to
a couple of coffins up against a crate. "At least we won't have
to find something for the bodies."
[Time: 4:13pm]
----------------------
[Time: 4:10pm]
Inside the Baron's office, Zhou checks the Baron. "He'll live
I think but he'll be a mess. His face is a mess."
Kiet and Farseeker finish stuffing the scrolls inside their
shirts and small pouch. Zhou circles the desk to begin to
sift through the papers there to see if there is anything
important before others arrive.
Inside the shrub maze Unali jumps onto the large 5 foot shrub.
The shrub is made to be thick and virtually like a solid wall.
That gives her nimble self the ability to climb the shrub wall.
She gets to the top and with magical dagger in belt she peers over
to see the flyer and Nom Amor moving away.
The flyer about 4 feet wide has wing like structures that look
like webbed membranes stretching out from its side about 3.5
feet. From the rear a small whipping tail is seen. Under it
appears to be something opening and closing fast maybe giving
it the amazing lift it needs. Nom Amor is balancing with some
difficulty on it and holding hands out to his side.
With a lurch Unali climbs up to lean across the shrub top. The
branches are hard on her chest but her armor helps to cushion
some of that. At least there are no thorns. Now laying down
on top of the shrub a couple feet she glances one hand to her
belt and throws it at the flyer. The dagger flies swift and
fast and seems to nick a wing.
From Inside Kiet and Farseeker watch out the window and see
Nom Amor seemingly floating in the sky about 12 feet off the
ground. Suddenly they watch as the thing he is on suddenly
begins to wobble back and forth.
In the few seconds it wobbles it loses some height and speed.
Unali takes this time to climb fully onto the shrub and notices
she is on the edge of the maze and the open field is on the
other side.
Suddenly the flyer lurches backward as if hit by a wall. Nom
Amor loses his balance and slams down onto the ground on his back.
The flyer seems to struggle in the air for several long moments
and then gives up and seems to just go oddly backwards and falling
lower in height as it backs up. Finally it smacks onto the ground.
Unali twists and places her feet over the edge and leaps off the
tall shrub. Landing on the ground she draws her other dagger
and grabs the one in her mouth. She runs toward the dazed Nom
amor about 20 feet away.
Nom Amor seems to realize she is approaching and tries to sir
but the blow has taken its toll. Unali gets above the Vong and
tries for a quick blow. But Nom Amor rolls out to the side
missing the magical dagger. Grabbing his own dagger from his
belt he swings wildly at Unali but it is more a wild swing and
fails to hit. But this gives him time to stand.
Nom Amor snarls and his odd eye pulses. Unali watches that eye
in hopes it doesn't lurch. The Baron wasn't agile and expecting
it but Unali is. She should be nimble enough to avoid it.
Both begin to circle and assess each other's abilities.
Unali knows from training the first to attack gives up their
power energy reserves so she lets Nom charge. The Vong thrusts
his dagger. She uses one dagger to block and one to strike.
She knows the Vong has strength and the armor on her. But she
is nimble and has two weapons to use.
Unali swings her own dagger and fails to hit as he side steps
just in time.
Nom fakes a forward thrust and actually almost kneels. His
thrust goes low just under her daggers and punctures her in
the lower right just below her ribs doing a moderate but
not critical blow.
Unali winces from the pain but her mental concentration forces
her not to yell or react. She swipes the magical dagger at
Nom and hits him in the left arm slicing down the arm doing
massive tissue damage. The arm goes limp and the Vong just
smiles as if pain helps him.
Upstairs when Farseeker notices blood pour out of Unali's
black armor he considers jumping. He turns to Kiet. "Jump!
go help her. I'll have to run downstairs."
Suddenly Nom's eyes juts outward and opens like a flower.
A spray of water mist shoots out. But Unali saw it coming
and leaps to the side in time to avoid it. Nom Amor twists
to swing at her and fails to hit.
Unali swings herself but fails to strike. But she decides
enough is enough. She twists her body and does a side leg
swing and sends the Vong down to his knees.
Breathing hard the Vong brings his coufee dagger up to block
but Unali gets behind him and thrusts toward his back and neck.
Both daggers strike easily and pierce even his crab armor. The
magical dagger and normal dagger are deep and mortal wounds that
kill the Vong.
Nom Amor collapses face down on the grass with black blood
pouring. Glancing around Unali looks to see if she is being
watched but from this angle sees no one but her allies.
"Never mind." Farseeker tells Kiet as he gets to the door.
Unali begins to check for pockets. She finds the crab eye
stalks are still alive. Finding that annoying she slices them
off and kills the armor. The Vong has no pockets but she does
have a small pouch. Not checking the contents she places it
upon her own belt. She then rolls him back over and checks his
back. But he only has a small quiver like tube the size of
2 feet. It is closed up. Ripping the leather she pulls it
off his back. Glancing cautiously inside she sees a small
scroll. She caps the tube back up and places it in her belt
as well. On the grass are other pouches and she figures they
must be the tricks he used. Checking one she finds the fine
dust. Checking another she sees it move slightly and stands.
She stomps the bugs that have to be inside.
Knowing that time will make eyes come she stands and jogs toward
her dress. She places a hand on her wound as her adrenaline begins
to wear off. It isn't critical. She grabs her clean dress which
has no stains and glances up and nods to her allies.
Finding the patio door she finds a small water cistern and
washes her hands and her black armor a bit. She has nothing
to stop the bleeding so enters inside. Inside the kitchen a
servant stares at her. The female cook just stops chopping some
fruits and stares.
Unali finds the sink and finds a rag. She strips the long
cloth and places it between her belt and pats it to her wound.
The tightness of her armor should hold it in place for a few
minutes. "There is a dead heretic outside. Tell the baron."
The servant just stares. The older lady doesn't know what to
do and watches as Unali redresses he dress and heads out of the
kitchen to find the stairs.
Upstairs Zhou continues his hears of the desk.
Farseeker sheathes his sword and looks to the baron. "Too bad
we can't question him."
