[Recap]
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Fremea has been quiet this whole time, mostly just listening and
watching everything going on. The staff as they roam around the
room doing their jobs, but picking up the small things that most
people miss, such as the sneers and head bobs about different
tables. Watching for anything that would lead to alarm or a
warning.
Hearing the reports for the night, she leans in (more like
stands on her seat and leans in), "I will be dressed for the...
In her room, she will dress for the night time 'job.' Afterward,
she will go out the window (making sure no ones knows she is
leaving that way) and get to the wagon. She will retrieve her
items, and apply all her old practices for flying with and
covering up any important items and things that gleam in light.
She will then fly, from a dark spot that no one will notice her,
very high up that she would not be detected from (hopefully) and
go to meet up with Unali and any of the others.
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn recognizes the need for him to leave town before an in
depth search begins. Even without magical items his aura will
burn brightly, even shielded, and further complicated by not
knowing how the detectors work. He'll work with the others to
take the items and head out of town. He'll attempt to assist by
keeping an eye out for anyone following them as they journey
through the city and beyond. Before leaving he'll ask if anyone
can pull something up regarding Rising Mount or named mountains
in the western ranges before the other, mundane, party members
leave town.
GM: Ack. No comment on the dead PB guy? :) I know I was sneaky
but it fits the overall plot arc stuff the Vong are up to in
their tricks and treats.
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
Raban sighs, he is causing quite the problems here. "How do...
<GM veto on that one if he thinks Raban should know if it is too
risky. Also I do not recall if anything was mentioned about the
walls here?>
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Not having any desire to be arrested, Z'leyra will join in the
stealthy exodus from town.
GM: Ack.
From Will: [Re: Actions]
Slight clarification for Kell. He'd like to help with
investigating the PB base inside the city walls, if Unali
wants him along. And definitely leave steathily, and early.
GM: Ack.
From Will: [Re: Actions]
Sun Tzu (Will) is also available if needed
GM: Ack.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
"I'll go" says Kiet. "It's either that or have to shine...
Anyway, maybe Kiet could finally find some way to be useful,
other than driving a wagon. While not disliking the work, he'd
had enough of it from his youth.
Kiet will dress in his leather under-armor (Ring over it usually),
no helmet, but with shield. DEFINITELY a couple of ropes...maybe
three... or more if he can carry them easily enough...they do get
bulky. Three daggers.
Kiet is thinking it might be a bit much to be carrying around
javelins in the city...but, then, he's got the shield...a sure
sign to the Watch that trouble is brewing.
GM: Ack. Thanks for letting me know what specifically you take.
It prevents evil thoughts like "oh didn't take your healing
kit too bad he dies." :)

[New Stuff]
[Augado 5th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Pamau Province, Pamau City]
[Time: 8:49pm]
Fremea has been quiet this whole time, mostly just listening and
watching everything going on. The staff as they roam around the
room doing their jobs, but picking up the small things that most
people miss, such as the sneers and head bobs about different
tables. Watching for anything that would lead to alarm or a
warning.
Fremea does watch the crowd during the evening hours. She
isn't the only one as Farseeker and a few others also people
watch. During the night the others in the room glance and
sometimes stare at the group. But all that attention goes to
Raban of course. Even seated he towers a couple feet over
the other heads. The staff also do their share of staring but
after some time get used to it and pay no more attention. The
others even the stranger looking ones like Ben'dar and Strie'bog
draw just quick glances only. Most of the others appear to be
rich merchants, mild noble level families or the single noble
with a aide or such. Baron Zhou may be the highest ranking again
in this place and likely from the looks of it for years in this
place.
The place has seen its better days for sure. The only thing
that might be new is the drinks, food and some of the bar top
that looks like it was recently rebuilt. It seems clear the
local Count or even Baron Ka would step into this place. Of
course that is good and bad. Good in that it draws less
attention to the party from the outside. Bad that it draws
attention from those inside and that news can spread. But
as Fremea and others watch there seems to be no sudden bolts
for the doors or sudden leaving the place and returning some
time later, other than those using the outhouse out back.
Hearing the reports for the night, she leans in (more like
stands on her seat and leans in), "I will be dressed for the
night and get there quickly to the shack. We must leave as soon
as possible. Tonight I will not need to sleep as you, 'father.'
Where is this place?" Turning to Unali. After getting the info
and where they will meet up outside of the walls, she excuses
herself from the table. "Father, it is late and I have much
learning from my teacher. If it pleases you I will retire for the
night." Though she really does not wait for answer, as she gets
down from the table and heads to her room.
[Time: 9:12pm]
After Unali goes over the details her friend and contacts
gave her he looks downtrodden.
Raban sighs, he is causing quite the problems here. "How do you
suggest I sneak out? I can assure you that I do not sneak well."
He scans the area for possible spys before continuing in a
whisper. "It may be better if I risk flying as that gift may not
be easily sensed. Of course I would have to find a place less
likely to be seen for that too. And perhaps use some different
clothing to better blend in?" Then he gets an idea, "Or I could
just walk through the outer wall in a place far from the gates or
guards? That too is a gift that may be harder to sense. Though I
have never tried a thick wall, I should be able to get through
it if I am quick. But I may have to keep separate for a little
while to make sure I was not spotted before moving toward where
ever we are going to meet up."
Unali pats the giant's arm and explains about the escape path
is easy for even him to use. She doesn't go into details as to
where it is for if others know that information and could be
interrogated it could put not only the party but her friends
at risk. Her intelligence training by Duke Aren taught her
that trick. She explains he can simply walk or ride out
through the wall.
In Pamau unlike Shantou the city walls are in good shape. The
nearby mountains seem to deliver materials for upgrades as well
as the basic ore and minerals needed. There are the typical
four main gates in the wall. Each gate is in the cardinal
point directions with the north and south using the highway.
The east and west gates open to secondary dirt roads to farms
in the east or the wide city margins in the west. The
walls show good upkeep likely because this city is a major
trade route from Upper to Lower Katai. Thus over the many
centuries raids and wars must've come to this province needing
such city protection. The wall here is one large thick wall
about the width of 5 feet and in some places 6-8 feet. Horses
can't use the wall but guards can traverse the wall in patrol
or place themselves in the occasional wall post. These
wall posts are small with some room jutting out from the wall
on each side about 3 feet. Here the wall is thicker to support
the wall. From inside the inner part allows ladder access to
the wall post itself. While the outer portion allows archers
to fire or observers to do their thing. At night these wall
posts are lit up with torches. The gates are also well lit
with torches and lamps. The wall posts are set about every
200 feet along the length of the wall. In the morning the
party will notice the escape section is about a half mile
from the east gate. Plenty of room to merge into the darkness
later in the morning. It is also halfway between two guard
posts. But most posts are only manned along the wall by one
bored guard. So it shouldn't be a problem leaving in the early
morning hours.
"I'll go" says Kiet. "It's either that or have to shine Zhou's
shoes." Kiet is glad they are finally leaving the wagon behind.
It slows us down too much and slows Kiet down too much. Gotta
learn to ride horses sometime in this world off Lemasa. Or
transport like some companions we know. "I forget...did anybody
remember to bring a warstaff? I might be able to put that to
use."
Zhou walks back to the table. "You will? Did I give you
permission?" He glances to Unali. "It is so hard to get good
help these days." He then takes his seat again. "I've taken
some precaution to ensure Raban isn't talked about." He closes
and taps his coin bag inside his vest. "To them he is just a
slave I obtained from the north. Looks scary but is really
a stupid oaf." He winks at Raban. "This will ensure the staff
don't talk to guards and that brings attention."
Caladan turns to Kiet. "You notice the thing I lean on and
use everywhere? My war staff you can borrow if needed."
Unali returns to the overall plan for the next day. "Leaving
two hours before sunrise on horse seems a wise idea. Those who can
get some sleep should do so, but having at least one guard on the
lookout for possible trouble seems wise. And we should prepare the
horses and get all the gear loaded up, especially everything now
in the wagon. We might need some eyes there as well, and Toban Nu
seems perfect in these circumstances. Would you mind, big guy?"
"I am sure my husband doesn't mind paying a small fee so that
the wagon will be safe here until we can collect it on the way
back, or have a good friend collect it for us. I am not sure what
lies ahead and how fast we may want to leave, but if time and
safety permits, I would like to stop at Shantou on the way. If
so, we might need the wagon again for the travel back."
"For now, those who want to join on a short mission to the PB
base should get prepared. With the streets so quiet, I feel we
best leave soon, so we can scout the place and see what we can
learn there. Outside in fifteen minutes or so? Before that, make
sure everything is packed up and ready to leave."
"The others, I hope you have a good night rest and see you at
the horses two hours before sunrise."
Zhou looks at the group. "All right. So you four will go.
I know she could do it better alone. But more allows for
better safety. Of course more brings risk involved. Good
luck and I hope you find something. Just don't bring them
down on us."
Zhou turns to Kiet. "Getting out of work? Fine. Means more
work tomorrow!" He turns to the others. "Okay. We'll need
to get stuff out of the wagon. We can setup a guard to watch
the inn and the wagon as well. Let's get to work as we'll need
to get up in 6 or 7 hours."
[Time: 9:30pm]
Most of the group has left to go either upstairs or outside
in the stables to deal with the wagon. Horses aren't saddled
or laden down now as it is just too early and would tire them
out. So the saddle bags and other gear is prepared so it first
just a matter of moving things over and saddling up the horses.
Unali and Fremea go upstairs to change and prepare. Fremea
slips out the window and flies to the roof to scan for folks
around the city streets. Some time later in her combat black
clothing Unali slips out the back way. Outside Kiet and Will
wait for the two women.
Unali is dressed in her black combat clothing making her very
difficult to see. She wears her daggers and leather armor as
well as sling. On her back a small quiver with her bow.
Kiet brings his shield out from the wagon. He wears his
Ring & Leather armor though its a bit warm but not hot. He
wears his daggers and some rope on his belt and hands.
Will stands in his leather and ring armor, has daggers in
various body locations. He has a longbow and quiver on his
back and bastard sword on his hip. He looks like a typical
warrior with sword on hip in the city but the bow draws some
attention to him that he could be a hunter. Under his bow he
wears a cloak around his body.
Fremea waits on the roof some time. She wears her leather
armor, bow, dagger and sword. Her quiver is firmly placed
on her back between her wings. She flexes her wings as it
finally feels good to use them and to fly. She even practices
a few minutes waiting to get back into the groove. But it is
instinct and hard to forget. But it really feels good to use
the wings.
Unali signals for the two men to join her. She knows Fremea
has to be nearby. With Fremea flying overhead high enough to
be avoided but close enough to be heard if emergency. Unali
has a rough location for the peace brigade tavern. She reports
the place doesn't even have an official name.
[Time: 9:56pm]
The journey to the tavern takes some time. As before Unali
notices the street is light with traffic. It is sensed that
the city is waiting for something else to happen and as a result
they are off the street. Fremea will occasionally come down
to warn of a guard patrol a street ahead and the trio on the
ground use that info to avoid the people and patrol by dark
alleys or side streets.
It takes 3 attempts to get to the place. The directions were
good but the area is not rampant with street lamps. This area
of town is markets and shops. Some light residence areas but
mostly shops that are closed this hour. For that reason the
lamps aren't used except at intersections. So after three
wrong turns the place is found.
The main marker used to find the place is a fountain near a
small park a few hundred feet wide. From there the tavern is
just three buildings west of it. The first two are a closed
butcher and a closed furniture shop it appears. In this darkness
the signs are near impossible to read. But from the windows that
is how they look.
Unali warns there could be observers and she wishes to scan the
area first. With Fremea on a roof two buildings down Unali eases
into the darkness and creeps around. About five minutes later she
reports back to the team. She waves Fremea forward to one
roof away.
Across the street from the tavern is a tall two story building.
The place is dark but it looks to be some manufacturing place
of some kind. Without entering the place it is difficult to
tell in this light. There could be observers in the place but
doubtful. Most observers use signals like light or arrows to
ring a bell or make a noise or such to warn of guards.
The street itself is dark with the nearest lamp at the main
intersection about 200 feet away to the east. The front of the
tavern faces south. To the west or if facing it right is what
looks to be the butcher shop. Usually these places have a place
for the owner to live but not this one. Most butchers do not
handle the smell or odors well and need the room to store so
many butchers live off site.
To the west or left if facing the tavern is another two story
building. Without getting close it is hard to tell what it is.
But it is dark. Down the street there are a half dozen other
structures. Only one seems to have a lantern in a front window
likely to sell stuff in a window display. But the rest of the
place looks dark and deserted.
North of this street is another series of two or three story
buildings. Based on the design of the places they appear to be
industrial places like manufacturing or shops. South of this
street is a larger street with what looks to be market stalls and
storage rental places. It is assumed to be a by day market place.
That means the place will be busy before sunrise but not for some
time yet.
The trio stand in the shadows south of the tavern across the
street up against the building in front of it. Across the tavern
the building's rear shows so the front of the other building is
further south toward the market area.
Watching the tavern the place has windows but is dark. Slits
of light shine and it quickly is determined that storm shutters
are used. There is no easy way to see inside. From the side
the windows are the same. There is no sign out front and the
front door looks normal and sturdy but not welcoming. From
the rear there is one door with a lock. The tavern itself is
three stories.
It is assumed the bottom level is the tavern, gambling and
eating area. Unali reports gambling does occur. While gambling
is not illegal there are some places in town where it is high
stakes and can be dangerous to gamble. The second story has
windows as well and these are curtained. The floor looks dark
either from low light inside or dark curtains. The third floor
there is a few places of light. The windows here are not shuttered
but have curtains. Light does pour out from openings in these
curtains from minor slits to a few inches.
Looking over from her roof the three story is hard to see what
the roof has. Since the places around the tavern has only two
stories it is hard to judge. As a result Fremea has to fly
over a couple times. She discovers that the roof is empty of
people. Not even a sentry on duty. She does spot a roof hatch
and it probably has a lock on it but hard to tell from a quick
fly-over. Landing for one last observation on the east side
of the building, next to the closed butcher's place, she can
see slight movement on the third floor window. It has a form
of a person moving back and forth near the window. She
scans the building itself and sees no ladders, no crates, not
even a fire escape door. She does notice there is a slight
ledge. On the first-to-second and second-to-third floors
there is a ledge that juts out half a foot to a foot at some
places due to drains.
So there is the front and back doors and a roof hatch as well
as windows around the perimeter of each floor. Fremea lands
and joins the trio to report her own findings as the group
decide on how to proceed. At this point the group has been
around the tavern for almost ten minutes. No one has left
or went inside in that time.

Next Update...Friday...
GM: Unali - I assume bow is taken if not let me know?
For others if there is a item you didn't say to specifically
bring better let me know before next update. Otherwise it
is left behind.
GM: Fremea, Unali, Will, Kiet at the tavern. All others will
help to unload wagon or sentry duty or sleep.
GM: I had maps prep for this stuff but goofed up and ran out of
time. I'll try to have them for next update. If it is
critical for a fleshing-visual look let me know and I can
work on them rush-rush and send them out in a supplement
update. Otherwise should be next update. I hope I gave
enough of a description so far.
GM: For those not at the tavern this will be a bit of rest for
now. These things tend to be slow to post and wait. So
will need to know how to go forward at this point.
If need to ask stuff do so and can replace. Lucky for
you I don't have the Dwarves doing Halloween jokes this
year. So you're lucky. But Happy Halloween! A small
update for now. I'll try to work on character sheets this
weekend if I get free time. I had planned to do them
when the group left town. But this side mission will
delay some of that work. But will work on sheets this
weekend and may send out a few if free time.
