[Recap]
From Unali: [Re: Actions]
Unali: "Nom Amor does ring a bell, doesn't it, Arawn?"
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Healing Herbs-
Sorry for the confusion. Arawn isn't looking for herbs for
himself. I was just reacting to the post as Arawn ended up in a
healer /herbalists shop as part of his cover (on behalf of Zhou
it seemed) so brought up the idea of shopping for healing herbs
to restock the parties supplies only if Zhou or someone else in
the party DEFINITELY wanted the herbs/healing materials and was
paying for them.

Replying to Caladan's warning about possibly having a booby
trapped coin- "I'm really not curious on the specifics of....
Arawn carefully took notes as Unali shared her information
regarding the barons, vong, and allies with the party. One name
in particular stood out and when Unali looked his way and brought

[New Stuff]
[Julis 30th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Around 60 odd miles south of Shantou city]
[Time: 12:13pm]
Just four days after the carnival ground battle and finding
the baroness the discussion of the pills was made early this
morning for the noble. She wishes to consider it and waits
half the day before she finally agrees to take the pill. For
ease of control and safety it is decides to do it that night
at camp.
[Time: 7:43pm]
After dinner it is clear the baroness is nervous about the whole
thing. her dislike for magic is bred into her from birth and if
she knows the party is magic users the prospect of her survival
would have to be considered for the mission.
The Healers know that giving some strange pill to a person can
be serious. But if Rua was so desperate to get to the pills then
maybe they work. There just isn't time to discover what the
pills are made from. Time and equipment needed to study the
pills is limited in this wild. One could do various spells
to learn maybe their makeup but if the Gods deem the Vong
to be enemy or simply ignorant of them then that result
would not work as expected.
As Raban begins to give a raving song of some Donaran story
of a princess in peril the party sit in silence stunned by
his ability. It becomes clear while he is a good musician
and fighter he could make a living just as a singer even in
a royal court. Raban begins to raise a hand and gesture with
it to emphasize his words. Raban has to stand near the
baroness to ensure the sound hits her especially hard.
Arawn suddenly notices that as Raban begins a third stanza
the coral begins to shake ever so slightly. Just like that
when Fremea used her Sonata. He motions for Raban to raise
and change the scales, octaves and pitch. Arawn takes a
dagger and begins to pick at the coral. Initially the coral
remains solid rock hard but quickly crumbles with the pick
of the blade. Arawn brightens up and picks another small
chunk away. Raban sees this and repeats the stanza over and
over seemingly aware of the right sound that seems to have
taken some effect.
While Raban leans down to make the sound hit the coral as
best he can, Strie'bog tries to match his own temp with
his flute. The coral on the baroness neck begins to wobble
just ever so slightly as well. Strie'bog suddenly ends
the flute and realizes it is Raban's voice doing it not
his. But maybe some magic can help. Strie'bog decides
to copy Fremea's first attempt and cast a quick Sonata
spell of his own and direct it gently at the sleeping
noble. The bard directs the music of the spell at the
coral and body. The coral begins to shake even faster.
Arawn takes his finger and breaks the neck piece in half
something just minutes ago he couldn't have done. But
Raban might have but the strength of the rock has clearly
diminished by the sound being splayed upon it.
Arawn keeps a finger on the noble's neck to check her
pulse and body temperature. For the first two minutes
she remains the same. then suddenly her pulse begins to
raise as Strie'bog joined in with his spell. As Arawn
begins to use one hand to clear the coral away bit by bit
he watches to ensure it doesn't regrow. But in fact the pill
seems to control this. Just a day ago they tried to cut
the coral but within a few hours the coral had grown back.
Arawn quickly realizes Rua was right that the pill controls
the Vong coral. In this case it prevents it from growing
back and likely defending itself.
Suddenly her pulse drops and begins to lurch one time.
Arawn quickly finds her temperature decrease a few degrees
as if in a cold room for some time. even in the balmy evening
heat. Raban stops his singing and watches the noble.
By now the Sonata spell has ended its second casting and
Strie'bog stands back as the noble becomes suddenly worse.
Baroness May suddenly coughs once but blows out a fine
white dust with a trickle of red blood. Arawn figures
this must be the coral dissolved? She suddenly stops
shaking and goes still. Arawn and Z'leyra check her over
as Z'leyra is in her Shamanic trance ready for spells if
needed.
Z'leyra begins to pump her chest to see if her heart will
start back up. Seconds tick by as Arawn shakes his head
in dismay as the pulse actually fails all together. Arawn
checks her eyes and they have rolled up into her head and
do not seem to react to light anymore.
Raban and Strie'bog do a quick blessing prayer as the Healers
work on the noble. But as several long moments pass Z'leyra
determines she is in desperate need of immediate healing. Without
waiting for argument or debate she begins to cast a high level
healing spell. Arawn begins to protest thinking a healing mist
might be better but it would take longer. A healing spell would
be quicker and might just save her life so he closes his mouth.
Caladan nudges Raban as the words are spoke. "Sing again
quickly!"
Raban confused is unsure as he doesn't want to hurt the woman
and it would be his most grievous act he could do. He rather
protect her than hurt her. But for some reason the words
leave his mouth before he can even consider the actions.
As Z'leyra places hand on neck and chest the green healing
energy leaves her fingers and enters the noble's body.
Nothing happens that first second. But the next second the coral
suddenly bursts into a fine mist. Encouraged Raban begins
to repeat the same stanza that seemed to have some effect. Oddly
it is the stanza where the rich prince meets her at night in
the garden for a quick stroll that ends up in the garden
pool after losing their clothing. But for some reason the
one word that has the highest pitch is the name of the
garden - Rivett and for some reason it's octave has the
immediate reaction. But he believes its not the word but
the combination of various things that seem to be doing something.
As the third second of healing continues Arawn suddenly
feels her pulse come back and begin to get stronger. The
baroness coughs up once more a fine dust powder but this
time no blood trickle. The healing spell ends and the
outside coral on her neck and breast implant has all but
been destroyed. The breast coral implant which replaced
her real breast flesh is the size of a small child's fist.
But it is now a fine dust on the ground or blown by the
wind.
Baroness May's pulse becomes steady and strong and her
temperature begins to climb slightly every moment. Arawn
begins to trace the neck where the coral once was. It
was a hard area like a stick or thick thorn in the neck
but now it is soft flesh. He smiles as it seems the
outside coral and now the inside coral is either shrinking
or dissolving.
Being the same sex Z'leyra places hand under the baroness's
silk tunic and feels her chest and ribs. Like the neck
the chest implant of coral was hard and the top middle
ribs in that area were affected and had expanded slightly
between each rib. But now it seems to have shrink. Could
this mean the coral inside is dissolving or is destroyed?
Soon the noble sleeps silently and the group watches.
She is given a wet cloth and her body is cleaned of
the dust and sweat. Raban stops his singing as it is
unclear if it is helping or hurting at this point.
A few minutes later pass and begins to stir and wake
up when Caladan ends the sleeping spell. She checks her
neck and chest and begins to speak but quickly coughs
up yet another fine mist. Arawn gives her sips of water
to clean her mouth.
Caladan holds her hand and smiles down at her. "It seems
to have worked. The pill was ...effective. But you should
rest and we'll keep watch in case there are problems. You
may be coughing up the coral for some time. It should be
a fine enough mist to cause no clog or choking."
The baroness looks around and with slight ears from
coughing and the pain looks slightly apprehensive. "Thank...
you" She tries to speak but the mouth is dry.
Z'leyra motions for the group to follow her to the side.
As Caladan remains at her side and issues her water the
group discusses the results.
It seems the pill was effective. While it was not a direct
cure it prevented defense and growth. The pill was in her
system for some time before the group attempted anything
but it is unclear if it was in for hours if it might have
done this on its own. While Raban's singing was a good
catalyst the flute seemed to have helped a bit. Z'leyra
figures she will be coughing up the destroyed coral for
hours. But she is unsure frankly if the blood stream is
so polluted if it will affect her heart and organs. But
the Healing may have destroyed enough to prevent that. The
Healers will have to watch her closely. They may be forced
to do another healing if it comes down to it.
Strie'bog whispers a suggestion to the group of Healers that
a regeneration or regrowth or such spell be used to regrow
her breast flesh. The same spell might be able to clean
her blood stream. Since midnight will be here in just a few
hours may be it can be done while she is sleeping naturally
since she can take another healing spell at that time.

[Augado 2nd, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Crossroads town]
[Time: 8:25pm]
After the group goes over their activities in town, Unali
goes over what she learned. She concludes with a question
to Arawn. "Nom Amor does ring a bell, doesn't it, Arawn?"
Still holding the magical coin in his fingers, Arawn weighs
the coin as if weighing food. He replays Caladan's warning
about it being rigged to self destruct or such. He hears Unali's
question but glances over at Caladan for a quick reply to the
wizard about the coin. He places the coin for now in his pocket
and goes to his bag to dig out the singed scroll he has kept
for some time now.
"I'm really not curious on the specifics of how it was made or
whom it belongs to. The problem is that the man didn't tell us
exactly HOW to use it," Arawn replied. "My interest in studying
it is an effort to find out just how it's to be used. But if anyone
has any insight into this..."
Zhou speaks softly as if the trees can hear him. "Like most
special items of that sort they are invoked with special energy."
Arawn realizes he must mean Mana. "Supply some of that higher
concentration and it might work. Probably is if you try to study
or sense it then could self destruct. Makes only sense for
a object of its kind not to fall into the wrong hands. Even
the ...effect Kakita did in the inn room. If such an effect
were used on the coin to learn who owned or where they may
be could lead to its destruction. It wouldn't be too hard.
Just add some effect to destroy it by fire or such once
a ...ward...detects certain investigations. I suspect you
do something with it like tap the coin a few times or
hit it or concentrate on it will call the man and his
group here or at least warn them they are needed. They
may do the rest. A simple effect to do a long range
communication or such option could be used."
Zhou seems especially anxious to speak on this. He isn't
a wizard but it seems he has been around wizards enough
to know how they act. Maybe the party is rubbing off on him
too much.
Arawn carefully took notes as Unali shared her information
regarding the baron, Vong, and allies with the party. One name in
particular stood out and when Unali looked his way and brought up
Nom he looked into her eyes and nodded. "Nom was mentioned in the
scroll found at the witches cabin at the edge of the Vassa woods."
Arawn unfurls the scroll for the party to read.
For those who have not been around while the party was in
the Vassa land like Kiet and Raban this new info is noted
with much interest.
["The Plan is set in motion. Nom has seen to connection in
---- ---- (missing ink or destroyed]. The Brain is almost ready
in Rising Mount. The House is supportive. Major operations [burnt
text here but looks like word "are"] are in action. Soon the time
of [---destroyed text---] -Harla will be set. Product will be
expected in one season. Be careful of locals. kill anything that
hinders Product. Nom will send Attendant to collect Product. You
are only to oversee Product development not interfere in operations
of Growers. No contact should be made unless in extreme emergency."
At the bottom of the scroll is some symbol of what could be animal
wrestling another animals as if in a circle one on top of each
other.]
Arawn hands the scroll to any who wish to inspect it closer
then crosses his arm as he considers the words. It has been
some time since he read the scroll. Things are falling into place
though now. "It bothers me that Nom seems to be working with one
of the noble Houses. As to the Brain mentioned, after Rua's tale I
think we can assume this is the master brain, the tool used to
destroy planets. The problem is locating Rising Mount in the
nearby range but hopefully Nom or the barons might be convinced
to share this information when we find them and prevent the Vong
gods from rising to power in this world."
Caladan points out the missing words and speaks to no one
in particular. "Connection to...has to be either Lower Katai
or Katai Empire or Pamau, Katai. The house has to be the
Pamau House."
"Growers must mean Shapers. Now that we have some idea of
their caste names Growers must be slang for Shapers?" Zhou
points out then adds to the topic. "Product has to be their
staves, orbs and armor. They must be grown to be used. Not
sure why they aren't simply taken from one world to another.
Maybe its easier to grow here than transport?"
Caladan nods in agreement, "also Rua mentioned something
about their gods. He named one or something...Hurla or
was it Harla like in this scroll?"
For the group the pieces are finally falling into place
after many months of work. It is unsaid but it is understood
that Rising Mount has to be one of the mountains to the south
west of Crossroads and west of Pamau province. The very
same spot Shu identified in a broad sense. This Rising
Mount has to be their base of operation. But where in that
group of 100 square miles? It could take time to round down
the exact location. Maybe the party will learn more later
on in Pamau.
Farseeker adds his view to the discussion. "Nom Amor has to
be the Vong's First Wave here. A term the Rogizini Empire used
for centuries as they planted spies and contacts in places they
wished to conquer. Maybe he is the leader of the Vong First
Wave or just one of many."
Sitting around the campfire the party prepares for what might
be a long night. Raban and Strie'bog decide that playing
music can test the coral strength and also to calm the party
and noble down.
Raban and Z'leyra beat their drums with steady tones and
calming rhythms. Z'leyra begins to sing a Marentian song
to break the ice as they both beat their drums.
Soon the baroness becomes more relaxed and prepared for what
could be a painful night. Earlier there was private talk to
have the noble asleep or awake. Some felt being awake could
allow for quicker answers to questions of pain and reaction
but could be more painful. But if she was asleep then she
would not feel as much hopefully.
Sitting nearby Caladan asks Baroness May if she wishes to
be asleep or awake for the process. He explains he has a
drink from a local herb shop that allows her to drink and it
is a common everyday sleeping tonic and not magical at all
as the dealer assured him. She decides that she would rather
be asleep if there could be pain involved s the coral leaves
her body.
Caladan knows the drink is harmless and is nothing more
than a spiced water drink. In fact as she begins to drink
he quietly speaks in Zen'da a quick spell. After testing
to see if she understands the language she falls assleep from
his sleep spell.
"Now we can get to serious work." Caladan stands and takes
the harmless drink from her hands and helps her to the ground.
As she drank the spiced water she took the pill from Arawn's
hand. No one is sure the dose required and this is all to be
experimental. She swallows the pill and shivers a bit as
it goes down. Before falling asleep she reports the taste of
the pills as salty sulfur smelling spice of some kind. It
almost reminds her of a old harsh tasting tea she once had
years ago.
With the pill inside the party has no idea how long it will
take to react or its duration. But based on Rua's explanation
the party can figure it must last a day. Maybe one pill a day
allows the Shapers to control the slaves?
Raban and Z'leyra end their drum beats. It is clearly doing
nothing and both doubt it would. Rua mentioned it is a form
of sound and a drum beat is likely not one such sound as it is too
random and not constant.
As Arawn watches the coral implant he checks to see if it changes
or grows or shrinks. he tries to nick pieces off to see if it
becomes more brittle or harder. The two bards and Z'leyra decide
to try singing.
Strie'bog begins to sing some Vassa related songs and changes
the pitch, volume and tone of the songs as he goes. After playing
5 songs he turns the session over to Z'leyra. Z'leyra sings
in Marentian a few songs trying to raise the octave and tempo
as well doing about 3 songs. But Arawn shakes his head in
silence as nothing seems to happen at all. It just isn't the
right frequency it seems.
Raban stands and prepares to sing. As he gathers his lung
volume up, Strie'bog begins to play the flute to change
the various styles and tempo. Soon Raban joins in and clearly
shows his skill as a singer. In fact he is better than Z'leyra
and Strie'bog combined it seems and this is quickly determined
by his control of the skill.
Z'leyra watches Strie'bog play the flute and tries to
study him as she is also learning the skill but is no where
near as good as the Vassa bard.

Next Update...Friday...
GM: Minor mistake in last update with time references. But you
may not have noticed it. Being the perfectionist I noticed
them now. No big deal.
GM: Bleh. This is one of those updates that is far better
in my eye and planning than it comes about when you type
it up. Maybe I'm distracted and tired by the holiday.
But the baroness scene was not near close enough to what
I imagined it to be. Oh well. Sorry. In fact the
whole baroness thing wasn't meant to be. It was never
planned to be a part of the adventure. She was going
to die but a certain unnamed Alfar threw a Elf wrench
in the works and teleported her to safety. Darn. So
had to drag her along. But it is done. There would have
been many ways to try a cure from magic to natural stuff.
But the party just didn't have time to experiment. It
would've been a hit and miss thing. I took some liberty
in the scene and hope it works out. At this point if
a person wishes to cast Regeneration or Regrowth or
some other spell to finalize her cure let me know
what and EL. It can be done after midnight to count
for a new healing day.
GM: Plan is Friday to finish the cure scene if needed. She
then will likely be left in Crossroads or another town.
The party will then move out that update down the road
to Pamau. For those who did shopping see the bottom no one
has reacted to the buys or no busy. If I have time in
next update after the cure, moving out and such then will
do any random encounters. If nothing critical will
then in Monday's update get to or near Pamau.
GM: Current day - Julis 30th Stats - Event: Baroness healing
