[Recap]
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
Raban sighs, "I would draw too much attention to the meeting,...
GM: Ack.
From Will: [Re: Actions]
Will speaking to Farseeker regarding the mysterious women...
GM :Ack.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
Yes, Kiet will purchase the seeds. For medicinal purposes only,
of course.
Kiet will purchase about 6 of the sticks. They are for wands
eventually. Not sure what skill(s?) is supposed to be used to
create them.
Kiet and Kell both wanted a pearl. Kiet first...grin...
Kell wanted the jade.
Kiet would like to purchase two very fine quality sets of light
weight clothes...2 pairs of off-white pants(light butternut/
khaki), off-white tunics and 1 sleeveless jerkin. If the jerkin
can be especially fine... maybe thin leather (no protection),
greyish, and brightly embroidered, that would be great. These
would be the clothes I would wear going to visit a noble house.
GM: Ack. Wands are best made from virgin material. While some
could argue the timber shops have sufficient wood the best
virgin wood is from a tree you cut down and then use. Just
keep that in mind. But there is arguments out there that
if you pick up a piece of Rowan from a storm strewn road
and make a wand that's fine too. Technically you would
need Carpentry skill to make a good wand. But to cut a
simple slab of wood and have no real decorations and such
then you can just use the basic Perm. Magics needed like
Ensorcel and Enchant I believe to make them into wands.
No flawless pearls found. There are millions of pearls in
the Empire easy to find. But most have been used in
jewelry and that ruins the chance of using them for
enhancement purposes. Many are not pure as well with
slight flaws. You would need to track down suppliers who
obtain large amounts of pearls from divers and sea farmers
rather than the markets merchants. Most merchants do not
sell them as a pure single pearl or other stone. So would
take time to find their suppliers. Same thing with Jade.
None was found after doing the rolls. Hundreds of jade
items like necklaces but not as a single stone. Sorry.
Sleeveless is not common in Katai. Even the peasant
classes really don't use it since bugs in the field. But
the tailor can easy cut some down. But you can find the
clothing and he'll tailor it for a coin. In all the
gear bought is 32 SC and 12 BB paid out from personal
funds. Bulk of that was the seeds of course.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn will mention that while Zhou and the others speak to the
baron that others in the party might wish to do a search and keep
an eye out for the symbol at the bottom of the letter. It might
help to locate another Vong allied house.
GM: Ack.

[New Stuff]
[Augado 3rd, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Crossroads town]
[Time: 6:19am]
Farseeker speaks of the odd girl he meant just minutes earlier
to the party that is starting to wake up.
Will speaking to Farseeker regarding the mysterious women
says "so was she saying to avoid the West gate to Pamau or all
gates?"
Farseeker grins a odd smile he does when he is considering
tactics or girls. "I got the impression she was warning about
the West gate only. Most cities, here in Katai it seems
including, have four main gates. So we should explore the
perimeter and head to another one."
Arawn listens to the talk of the girl but is distracted by
other thoughts. How could the gods be so blind to this threat?
What was prophesied to be the Second Great Plaque. He thought
that might have been Lymria's influence but that is not so.
Why won't the gods act for the best of the middle world? Could
they be so paralyzed by this threat and the Vong so alien that
they don't know how to act? He is also aware there might be
gods like Kototh who might wish this to happen. He wonders
what the gods are doing talking about this or as they humans
say digging their head in the sand. He goes back to the previous
day when the party left the Baroness. Inside the hotel room
she was put to bed and not warned they were leaving. No they
would leave a note for her so the party could have a head's start
in case she did something. Arawn ended up being the last person
in the room when she was going to bed for that night. He
leaned close to her and whispered a few things. Farseeker at
the door could hear occasional words like kidnap and Vong and
peace brigade. Was Arawn warning her or telling her about these
things? At one point she cringes and steps back from the Alfar
as he mentions something. She clearly becomes fearful of
something and Farseeker almost steps in to stop here. But
Arawn ends his quick one sided conversation and leaves the room.
*************
[Augado 5th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Pamau Province, Pamau City]
[Time: 12:02pm]
Zhou goes over details of the plan for Pamau.
Raban sighs, "I would draw too much attention to the meeting,
so it is best I guard the others this time. But it is a risk to
our story, so think of a reason I was being punished as we may
need it."
Zhou nods in agreement. "Well I am considering new plans but
this is a rough idea. By the time we get there I may change
my mind on how to deal with the city. This is just a quick
rough plan hoping to hear from you guys."
[Time: 2:57pm]
In the few hours it takes to ride the highway south to
Pamau City, Unali and Chion go over details of the city
they know from their past. Others who have picked up
rumors in various taverns like Kell, Farseeker, Kiet and
some others also speak of the city.
Apparently recently the Master General executed the old Duke
of the city and over half of his family. They were replaced
by a new House Pamau group led by some General with many
battles in his experience. Though many in the taverns believe
the General is half deaf and only is lucky in those battles.
Many in the Empire have heard of rumors that the city is
a haven for a major criminal organization. While crime syndicates
aren't rare in Katai, they are common in all 20 cities, this
one is unusually powerful. Kell heard one rumor in Crossroads
that the old Duke of Pamau helped this criminal group but
how and why aren't known. It is believed by most in the
region the Duke turned a blind eye to the group with his guards.
Now however the new Duke is trying to smash this group. This
has caused a strife in the city. Those guards who were on
the group's payroll have turned against the loyal guards.
The Duke is rumored to be cleaning up his force bit by bit.
Sadly rumors are numerous that this strife has caused citizens
to be killed in these street fights between the new loyal
forces and the more corrupt forces.
Farseeker notes the location of the city on the highway
system means it is a great bottleneck for trade and crime.
A gang would have difficult time in Crossroads with all the
various spokes but could control the travel and trade through
the south province from Lower to Middle Katai. Most would
have to go over the mountains or through their province or
sea and so that gives them an advantage.
Nearing the city the highway becomes more clogged. The
sky is clear and the heat is tolerable in the upper 80s
but wind from the western mountain range help to cool things
down and prevent intense humidity.
Pamau is a smaller city of only 25,000. During winter time
Crossroads can be just a bit smaller but even at harvest time
Crossroads is larger. Shantou city is 4 times bigger in city
population but the first city where Tiehul is smaller. So
in the great scheme of Katai cities it is a small city. Some
tie the low population with the purge recently done by the
Master General.
Nearing Pamau's city margins it becomes clear this province
has less agricultural areas. But the plains are wide and open
and can see for miles. Entering the margins the road leaves
the plains and the hills are seen to the right of the road
to the west and north. Soon the river is seen while the party
crosses a large two wagon wide wooden bridge. The bridge looks
fairly new likely destroyed in the previous House purge?
The river feeds from the sea to the east and goes slightly
west-south-west through the mountains in the west. After
crossing the bridge and paying the required tolls the group
heads a couple miles to the city proper. The few farms and
large agricultural tracts that are seen are in the east and
south east regions of the plains by the city. About 10 miles
east of the city is the ocean and around 10-12 miles west
of the city look to be the mountains. But the mountains
are a faint blue blur on the horizon.
Lucky for the party the group nears the North Gate. The
party soon realize this city like some of the others is
walled. But from the looks of it most of the wall has been
knocked down or destroyed by natural age. It appears the
wall hasn't been worked on in ages except for near the guard
towers and gates themselves. Looking closer the various parts
of the wall which were destroyed have buildings that are
also damaged and some look to be destroyed by fire or by
demolished battering of some kind. This seems to be clear
signs of a possible House purge war to the party.
Zhou asks Kell to just do a quick survey of the West gate.
he wants to see if the gal's words were true or not. Riding
fast the merchant rides ahead and takes a smaller side road
to the west gate. It takes him about 5 minutes but being
a single rider he is fast. Nearing the west gate it looks
like the North gate. But as he closes he watched the edge
of the gate. This time of day the sun is to the side and
pointing down at the gate. Getting within about 50 feet
he tries to sense and see for any sign of unusual things.
Kell has to get within 40 feet to sense anything. When
he gets to about 38 feet to the edge of the gate he notices
a faint aura under the rim of the gate. Slipping off his
horse and faking checking his bags he glances at the gate
and notices indeed something shiny there. It looks to be
a shiny clear gem of some sort. It is glowing a faint aura
but doesn't seem to glowing intensely. Mounting back up he
rides back to inform the group of the possible live detector
that doesn't seem to be fake.
Zhou edges the wagon toward the north gate. "Farseeker go
ask where Baron Ka's estate is please."
Farseeker rides ahead and finds one of the guards at the
gate letting various vehicles and people through. After
a few minutes he rides back. "The Baron has two places. One
outside the city to the south but has a city place and tends
to stay there most of the time. Incidentally, the guard says
he is one of the few nobles to remain free of the purge. "
Zhou raises an eyebrow and wonders if the Vong had some
influence in this. Zhou considers keeping the wagon outside
the city walls but the looks of it there isn't enough outside
to be common. It looks like everyone goes inside the city
proper when visiting. Zhou waves the wagon to the gate.
Ben'dar and Kell ahead scan for danger and another detector.
But Kell waves the group on when he senses no danger. Arawn
reconfirms this with no sign of dangerous aurae in the area.
Entering the city is simple with only a note to the guard
on what the final destination is, purpose of visit and
how long might stay. The party gets the impression the city
is controlling its numbers. Maybe it is limited to space or
food or water or something else. But this isn't so uncommon
for many towns to do this though.
The party heads down various side streets and the noble wagon
is clearly not so common here. Maybe when the nobles were
wiped out here the amount of wagons for nobles went as well.
This causes a bit of a glance though and may be a problem
if noble wagons are more rare now.
The party passes a town crier swinging his bell. "Here ye!
Here ye! Today is glorious! The Empire's heretics have been
found! Thanks to our great Duke Kula we have rounded up a
group of evil magic users! Come all young and old! Come
see the burning and execution of these vile creatures! The
execution takes place soon! Come and see the family of black
hearted fools executed at the East Plaza...." He then repeats
this message and continues walking through the streets.
As the party winds through the western streets it is clear
many, hundreds it seems, heads east to likely go and see
the execution. Finally a spot is found to park the wagon near
a noble oriented tavern and inn. The three story inn has
its own stable and wagon house.
The stable owner has to beat his son on the back a couple times
to get the job going of taking the driving team and wagon into
storage. The boy, likely around 15, claims he wishes to go see
the execution. The owner apologizes to Zhou repeatedly and
says. "Ever since they caught the female and male magic doers
he wants to see one beheaded. Youth you know. Now especially
since they found their two kids he wants to see the young girl
burnt after beheaded. It is a shame to kill a girl half his
age but what can you do." He helps Kiet to dismount and
organize the team.
Inside Fremea clenches her fist. killing Kids for crimes they
likely have not done is cruel. Zhou notices this and shakes his
head. Farseeker whispers to Zhou that leaving the wagon in
the city is dangerous and would take time to get the team back
in place for any escapes.
"We must do our part in this cover story. If we leave them
on the side of the road it would look odd. If we stay the
night especially." Zhou whispers back to Farseeker. "But
I know the risk is grave. If we must we can flee on the
freed horses and leave the wagon."
In a quiet area and alone Zhou changes his mind. "I think
Arawn is right it might be good to look around the city
for possible Brigade, warehouses or for that symbol thing.
Some need to stay here and watch the team. Fremea I
understand your ...issue with kids. I think some of us
should go see this execution. Maybe we can detect Brigaders,
Vong, detectors or even resistance members. So I think
we have new tasks if all agree?"
"Strie'bog can stay here with the wagon and watch it."
Zhou knows his skin might attract some attention but also
knows he should take care.
"I'll stay with Strie'bog." Caladan adds.
"Arawn, Ben'dar and Chion can go look for these possible
warehouses and for the symbol. Do you think you need more
or less people Arawn?" Zhou asks.
"I think Fremea, Raban and Kell can go see this execution.
Two that can...sense will be a good plus to check for things.
If we can capture a Vong or Brigader we can learn more possible
details." He glances to Fremea. "This should be low profile.
But I know if I had a chance to rescue a person I'd try but
consider the mission. Think before you act please. If though
you believe you can not tolerate seeing kids killed then you
are welcome to join us at the baron's home? If not Raban and
Kell can look around. While folks are staring at Raban, Kell
can do his covert spying."
"Will and Z'leyra which group do you want to go with? Here
with the wagon, Baron house, Arawn's team or Kell's team?"
Zhou asks as he glances to Will and Z'leyra.
"Each group should have one that can use their special
senses for danger." Zhou points out a obvious detail.
"I, Unali, Farseeker and Kiet will go to the baron house."
Zhou then crosses his arms. "Try to keep a low profile." He
glances to Kell to ensure this is heard. "We only have a few
hours before nightfall. I would like folks back here at that
time so we can be safe. Agreed?"
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Friday...
GM: Was given the wrong memo. Seems Kell and Unali did vote
on the next adventure. So only Ben'dar and Will have to
vote yet before the 10/1 deadline or those who wish to
change their votes by 10/1.
GM: Small update. I sadly slacked too much and didn't get
much time to work on it. But it is enough. I will
end here with who wishes to do what tasks. If you have
other suggestions let me know - especially Unali who is
still leader technically.
Baron House - Zhou, Unali, Farseeker, Kiet
Investigate - Arawn, Ben'dar, Chion
Watch deaths- Fremea, Kell, Raban
Where? - Will, Z'leyra
Stay wagon - Strie'bog, Caladan,
Let me know. If want on another team or such.
GM: If things will be definite and not possible Team A or
Team B or Team C if the party wishes kind of thing then we'll
move on. I'll move folks to their tasks and do an update
for Friday. I'll likely work on the update some Wednesday
night in case Thursday will be time limited.
GM: Have an email from a new possible player. He recently
joined Mark's game. You guys want a new person to
steal from ? Err. I mean to play with. I can add him
almost right away or a bit later. But I'm considering it.
If you have views for or against let me know. I can
take those comments in email.
