[Recap]
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
It quickly becomes clear Kiet and Fremea are about
the same level of skill, both almost professional it seems.
"Almost professional...?"
GM: Minor experience for Kiet/Fremea on Disguise artist. Fremea
+1 EL and your now 1 EL better than Kiet. :)
"Showoff...."
GM: Ack. Many years ago I figured out skill levels. Maybe it
was in the rules? But for EL80 a EL40 would be professional.
A person who could use the skill to get paid professionally.
While a EL20 would still be an apprentice worker or such. That
sort of thing. Not a hard classification but how I've figured
it out over the years. You put the above in quotes in reaction
to GM comments so figure they aren't actual words. :)
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn spied on the group for a brief moment, pretending to adjust
his footwear to avoid being obvious, and then scanned the
building and nearby area for any other means of entry into the
warehouse along with hidden guards and possible magical detectors.
"I wish we had the entire group here but with the execution ....
he whispered quietly to the others.
GM: Ack.

[New Stuff]
[Augado 5th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Pamau Province, Pamau City]
[Time: 3:58pm]
The four at the south end of the square just saw the male
wizard executed, beheaded with the glee of the audience. Then
the children were it seems teleported away in a blue haze of
what has to be magic. The archers on the roofs fired but
missed the executioner who must've been another person entirely.
This is when the guards on the stage acted forward and those
on the ground moved toward the stage. At least half a dozen
from various areas around the square moved toward the stage.
By then the torch thrown at one guard had caught his clothing
on fire and the other guards on stage moved toward the lone
nude woman the female wizard it seems.
The crowd turned from glee, excitement to anger when the
children escaped. Then the female lurched forward and jumped
off stage to slice her rope binds off with a unseen sharp
device under the stage. Kell could not see what she does but
only her naked rear as she spends several long seconds then.
Startled the crowd turns from horror to anger. Those near
the stage begin to yell and shout. When the nude woman jumps
down three men begin to move toward her ready to beat and kill her
her if the guards don't get to her first.
But by now the nude wizard has turned around. Holding two
small plastic or ceramic looking balls in each hand she raises
her arms and spreads her arms like in a X formation. Suddenly
the balls seem to explode into a white light that has to be
magical light of some sort. It is very bright and that's when
the archers fire on her. Two arrows hit her side and she falls
to the ground.
[Time: 4:00pm]
Will watches from a good 100 feet behind the front of the
line but fails to get a good picture of what is going on
due to the crowd. Raban watches the man who seemed to be
not applauding but seems to just enjoy the show nonetheless
suddenly move on down the south east street heading east.
When the square is suddenly thrown into this intense light
the crowd begins to shriek and panic. The first to panic are
the women and they begin to scream in horror. But within a
few seconds some begin to move away. This causes the full
crowd to go into a domino effect and many start to move back
and away. This causes a collision of people as the square
suddenly becomes clogged and congested.
Fremea suddenly finds herself staring at a crowd that towers
over her and seems to moving backwards in a stampede. Raban
notices this and quickly lurches forward to grab her as two
men run straight for her position. Raban grabs the Faerry up
into her arms and swings her away just as the men who almost
ran her down passes.
Inside the south west crowd, Kell finds himself in a mob of
fools and idiots. Most men are starting to get upset but many
are fleeing especially the lower classes who are ignorant of life
and magic.
None of the four can see the woman but she grits her teeth
and stands up even with two arrows in her side. Another arrow
hits her in the side of the chest and a second impacts the ground.
With blood pouring down her side a guard jumps off the stage
and begins to raise his pike to kill her.
This is when the light suddenly changes to a rolling spurt of
flame. This startles the guard and he freezes. The woman who
is starting to waver yells. "You may have killed us. But our
children will survive this day! But you will ...not!"
Suddenly the wizard performs or casts a spell or invokes the
magical orbs or whatever they are. At that second three bursts
of flame appear.
the first is a large eruption of fire at the center of the wizard
and engulfs the nude women and expands in a supernova of flame.
The Inferno spell expands quickly. It engulfs the guard and burns
him to a crisp and then hits the stage bursting the wooden frame
into a blinding swirl of fire sticks. Those on stage catch on
fire and begin to scream.
South of the wizard the inferno expands south toward Kell
and Will. It engulfs the people around the immediate air
and their clothing bursts into flames. Kell is about 75 feet
from the woman and the heat becomes intense but it stops 25
feet from him. It seems to immediately take out 30 or so people
including some kids and guards.
At the same time the first inferno goes off two other inferno
balls erupt in the crowd in the west and east areas. The
two inferno spells were centered about 200 feet from the
woman and expanded out like a supernova of fire. Each inferno
explosion effect immediately kills or catches on fire about
50 people on each side.
Now this even causes the strong manly men to run in horror.
Even all forms of civilization falls as guards flee as well
from the evil magic. Only the north and south ends of the square
is left unaffected. The heat is intense and the smell of burnt
flesh is everywhere.
Raban suddenly sees about 20 charging his way and turns to
have his large back face the crowd. He covers the small Fremea
in front of him and protects her. It will take a good force
to knock him down.
Kell is suddenly knocked over by 8 people and thrown on the
ground onto his knees and hands. One woman steps on his left
hand and he takes some minor damage but it doesn't seem to break
which is good for him. He also takes a man's knee to his side
but overall he survives this stampede with minor bruises it
seems.
Will also becomes a target for the stampede but he stands
his ground and is not knocked down. He takes a woman's nail
scratch on his arm as she tries to almost run right over him
but he takes no serious damage.
[Time: 4:02pm]
Time seems to move slow but in fact two minutes pass before
the square seems to empty out. Most by now go down side streets
or flee into shops for safety from the evil fire.
Not all seem to flee though as many recover and come back. Those
who do return quickly rush to the aid of the burning or dying.
Raban releases Fremea from his grip and begins to look around
at the suffering and dying. He realizes he couldn't have done
anything unless he was close enough.
As men, woman and to Fremea's disgust some children begin to
wail and cry the group of four look around. It is pure chaos
and Kell stands among the dead or dying.
Raban moments earlier was not hard to miss. But now that
there are only a dozen or so people in the entire square
standing he is now even more so out of place.
But those on the ground don't seem to notice him, not even
the guards. They quickly get to the wounded.
As the smoke of the stage begins to break slightly, Will
stares at the jewelry 3 story shop on the north east side.
the place where he saw someone staring out. Now the curtain
is pulled shut and the person is gone. He begins to scan the
roof and the archer is gone as well. He isn't sure if the Archers
are moving down to help the wounded or otherwise.
The black smoke takes to the sky high and drifts a bit to the
east with the winds. As Kell scans the crowd he estimates in
each of the 3 inferno areas there must be 30-50 down or dead.
that could be as much as 100 dead. Could the Katai be right?
Could these wizards who just killed dozens be so evil they
don't see the evil they do to save their lifestyle? Then Kell
wonders if not all wizards are good oriented like the Law
leader. Maybe these were chaos oriented or as parents maybe
they were just so blinded to save their kids they would do
anything. But Kell know this will likely distract any
regional detectors, bounty hunters and other groups for some
time as they clean this mess up and search for the kids. But
maybe that was the intent as a distraction to give the kids
time to flee?
[Time: 4:04pm]
"You there! Come help me!" A woman screams to Raban. "Are
you stupid! Here..help...me.." She screams to the Giant as
she tries to stop the bleeding of a man's chest.
Fremea glances around. She notices maybe a half dozen kids
mostly of pre-teen years lying about. Over half are so burnt
by burning clothing they aren't moving. Some are moving on
the ground trying to douse the flames. Some are just lying
on the ground as their clothes flame. She is outraged by this
event and wonders if this is part of the resistence group or a
side event that they didn't condone. She realizes now what
a mother can do when her kids are endangered.
As Fremea moves slightly in shock toward one girl a memory
flashes in her mind. She is taken back to Donara where she
was in a cage. She saw families stare at the strange winged
being and taunt her. She saw mothers with their kids. She
saw kids who refused to taunt the faerry. She recalls one such
Donaran girl about 9 who refused to even make fun of the Fae.
The girl even tried to approach and unlock her cage. But her
own mother pulled her away and scolded her after hitting her
a couple times. At that time Fremea realizes mothers can be
cruel and confusing beasts. She rather face a dragon than
a human mother at that time she thought. But now as she
moves toward the dying girl in the square she realizes mothers
are more complex creatures than she thought.
By instinct Kell begins to beat clothing of people near him trying
to douse the flames. As he scans around the area making sure guards
aren't approaching his friends he notices a man at the edge of the
south east street. He is staring but not acting. The Half elf
finds it odd he is staring. Many out there on the edge are staring
but they shocked, scared, nervous or unsure of what to do. They
are showing emotion. this man who stands staring at the crowd is
not seemingly looking at the crowd but at those helping the crowd.
Kell finds this odd. As Kell douses a woman's cloak and yanks the
tunic off a man he notices the man keep touching his belt buckle
which looks to be slightly metal. He does this a couple times then
suddenly moves north along the eastern edge of the massacre and
on the porches of the shops. As he walks he grips his belt and
just stares.
Will is the only one that doesn't react right away to those
around him. He is more interested in the building and the roofs.
The north west building where he thought he saw the executioner
come out of suddenly shows a bit of activity. Two men exit the
house and stop when they scan the crowd. Shaking heads they
quickly say something to each other and move north to the side
north-west side street and turn toward the west. The two
pass horrified city people and seem odd leaving the area rather
than watching the scene.
To the south bells can be heard likely some alert for fire or
some other basic warning or call for help it is not sure which.
[Time: 4:05pm]
----------------------
[Time: 3:58pm]
Arawn dashes back around the corner. He tries to track the
raven but it is out of sight now. Something in the back of
his mind finds the raven interesting. As he dashes back around
the corner he quickly describes the scene to the other 3.
On this side of the street are back end of shops which are
either closed or semi-closed due to the other fun in the
town square. On the north end of the alley where the party
ended up there are back doors but no porch or sidewalk areas
like in front of shops where boardwalks allow people to stroll
and window shop. There are some waste crates along the back
of two shops but not much else here.
Looking across the dirt street are about 5 warehouses of
various sizes. All appear to be two stories. Across the
street based on the sign that says "Vau's Leather and Clothing"
it must be a clothing and leather warehouse. The door to that
one is closed. to the right of that appears to be a furniture or
wood warehouse. A simple sign just says "Tu Furniture Supply."
That warehouse door is also closed and the doors are all shuttered.
and appear to be secure likely from crime.
The far left and right warehouses are not known as the signs
are too far to read and see at this angle. To the left of the
clothing warehouse is the warehouse in question with the men
unloading the wagon. Oddly there is no sign on this warehouse
and the windows are from this side fogged over by what must
be years of dust and grease.
Arawn scans the shops and street. The only other person is
a middle aged man heading west down the street past the far
right warehouse. He doesn't seem to notice anyone and just
continues on foot east. This area seems deserted and devoid of
any workers. The group wonders if it is a holiday or off-work day.
Arawn pretends duck just outside the north edge of the alley.
He needs a better view. He pretends to take note of his shoe
and secure his boot as if it is loose. As he leans down he
glances right and light trying to study the area. The other
3 stand behind hidden for now.
Arawn studies the strong muscled men in the distance. There
appears to be three of them. At least one has no shirt on and
his tattoo which caught Arawn's eye is seen clearly. If this
is the peace brigade mark he isn't completely sure but it looks
like it. then there is the wagon with 2 coffins which clearly
looks out of place for this area. If the Brigade is working
in the open like this then they must not fear being discovered or
they are confident in their work.
Arawn is seen once but the man just goes back to work hauling in
a couple other crates into the building. Arawn uses this time to
stand and turn to the others.
[Time: 4:00pm]
"I wish we had the entire group here but with the execution
going on this area is relatively empty. We should take a closer
look. Move straight ahead or look for another way in?," he
whispered quietly to the others.
[Time: 4:01pm]
When it becomes clear that Arawn, Ben'dar and Z'leyra have
nothing to add or act on, Chion grunts. He walks forward into
the street into the open. Looking forward he heads to the right
side of the clothing store and between the furniture store.
He waves for the others as if a merchant needing his group to
follow.
Chion heads the small group now exposed by the native Katai
forward. They cross the street and give no mind to the men
loading and unloading the wagon. Chion leads them north to
the north street. Getting there they notice the north side
of this area is covered by a field of graves. It must be
a low station cemetery based on the lack of tombs and expensive
looking grave markers.
Chion leads the group west behind the clothing store and toward
the back of the unknown warehouse. Getting there they find there
is a small wooden door and a couple of windows. Peering inside
as discreetly as they can the room inside is dark and it is hard
to see through the foggy windows.
As the group edges to the north west corner of the building they
pause as if to study the area. Suddenly from the south the wagon
is heard to pull off and head west down the street. It has two
of the men on the wagon and the two coffins.
The wagon is seen driving past the south end of the alley with
two large horses driving it. Down the south alley there are
just a couple of windows but no doors.
Z'leyra notices a plume of smoke rising above the street to
the west. Faint sound of what must be bells is heard.
[Time: 4:05pm]
----------------------
[Time: 4:00pm]
As the four pretend they didn't hear the news that Nam Amar
aka Nom Amor may just be in the very next room, the servant
walks down the hallway. She carries a tray of food and drinks
from the kitchen.
As she notices the door suddenly open and then close again
and hears a click she stops at the room the baron is inside.
She listens and hears a noise. "Baron you all right in there?"
she asks.
Using this as an excuse Zhou comes out into the hallway and
waves Farseeker to follow. "Is there a problem?" The noble
pretends to act curious but is nervous.
As the fake Baron and warrior near the door the two can
hear noises inside.
A noise like a chair scrapping is heard. "What is your
answer baron? Answer me!" A voice is heard though a bit
muffled. Another voice says "I will...will.."
"Papa?" The small girl runs out into the hallway with
Kiet just behind trying to catch her. But he uses this
chance to also see what is going on. Unali follows behind
and now all four are in the hallway.
Zhou doesn't hear the other end of the baron's answer and
looks to Farseeker who just shakes his head in negative to the
same situation.
"Do you have a key?" Baron Zhou asks of the servant as he
pretends to notice the food on the tray.
"I shouldn't disturb him..he said not to." The servant
whispers back.
"We can get someone else to help us if that is how you
feel." Is heard muffled but from inside. Then there is
a pause.
The small girl goes to the door and tries to open it but
find it unlocked. "Papa?"
"We are busy go away!" The voice shouts.
Then a muffled very small voice is heard. "Work with us
further and no harm-"
Then a noise is heard as scuffing noises on wood floor is
heard. Then a slam as if a person is slammed up against
a chair or table. Something is muffled but it sounds like
a anguish yell of some sort.
"Baron!?" The servant bangs on the door with her elbow.
When the baron doesn't reply, Zhou grabs her arm. "We need
that key now! Sounds like he may have fallen."
The servant unsure of herself and her duty glances to the
door and the group. The small girl begins to bang on the
door and tries to open the door but fails. The servant
finally nods and runs off down the hallway and around a corner.
Zhou turns to Farseeker and nods to the door. But as he
does this a male voice is heard screaming inside. then glass
is heard breaking inside.
Unali looks to the south window looking down to the ground
floor being on the second story. She notices the men at work
but wonders what is going on inside. She can hear the faint
very faint noise of loud city bells?
[Time: 4:05pm]
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Friday....
GM: No one at all posted actions. So I had to move things along.
I did 5 minutes of time. Was going to do 2 minutes but
not much could be typed in that time frame. With no
actions and unsure empty responses bad things do happen.
Why even stupid actions would be better than nothing. Those
who wait for others to post and see their action can cause
problems for the group if they don't act. So I moved
things along 5 minutes for each group. If no one posts
again for Friday then I'll just skip Friday's update.
Give folks a week to act. If nothing by Monday I'll move
things along another 2-5 minutes depending on what I can
get typed up. This is a small update as could only do a
bit of limited stuff based on no-action. I also ran out
of time to finish the last scene. The next 2 Thursday's
I'm off so may work on update that afternoon or get some
minor work done Wednesday night.
