[Recap]
From Raban: [Re: Actions]
Raban just stares in shock once the stampede of humanity is
past. How can both sides be right and wrong? Being a Mage is no
real crime, it is how it is used that should determine that. But
here they would have executed the innocent children because of
the parents. Yet to save those innocents the parents die while
killing those in the crowds whose only crime was to watch? To
kill so recklessly just for a distraction is the act of a Monster
or perhaps someone of Chaos who uncaring is still a Monster for
such an act! Their actions just prove to the people that magic is
evil as they do not see any good use when such horror covers it
up. Fought this way such atrocities will never end. Were the
others right, was an easy death for the children better than a
rescue when such methods are used?
Raban realizes now that his own attempt to save the children
would likely have gone as poorly. Would it have been right to
hurt or kill all the guards or stupid people who tried to prevent
it? Their punishment was wrong but here there seems to be no right
anymore. Worse, they were expecting such actions. The whole thing
was bait to draw in more! So were the ones watching from the
edges, for or against magic? Were they watching to find new
recruits or to mark those who were not opposed to magic users?
Obviously it was both! They watch to determine friends or foes to
come. To recruit aid for the resistance as well as new people in
horror of magic who will become fanatics to eradicate it. These
'mages' could not have done things worse for their cause, do they
not understand that?
Hearing the woman crying for his help, Raban turns and looks down
at her with tears in his eyes, "No, you do not want my help.....
<A bit too much drama queen? This was a bad scene for Poor Raban,
nothing he could do would improve things. Even healing someone
would only get them killed later as being 'Tainted'
GM: Ack. Good post. Good introspection.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn said a quick prayer to his mother as he scanned the area,
thanking her for her assistance. The raven was her favored
creature and he took the appearance of one as both omen and
guide, recalling the lone crow at the fairground, another bird
often linked to her. While others worried that the gods seeming
lack of action indicated a sense of apprehension, perhaps fear,
and that communing with them on the subject might only succeed
in bringing down their wrath he felt otherwise. The group was
being guided, he felt sure of this, but wondered as to the lack
of seemingly direct action in regards to an alien invasion, both
by follower and god. Were they unwilling to deal with a direct
confrontation? Was it an issue of rules or a concern for the
repurcussions of such an action? Or was there something else that
forced them to limit their involvement?
These thoughts and more raced through his mind as he finished his
survey when the sudden sound of horses and wheels in motion drew
his attention. When the wagon began its journey to the west
Arawn's head flew back and forth between the vehicle and the
warehouse. He was torn between following the wagon or searching
the building. Making a quick decision he began to move after the
vehicle, speaking to any of his fellows that follow.
"I guess we can always come back later and check the warehouse...
Scott, Arawn will attempt to keep out of sight and follow by
taking advantage of his Trailing skill.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra will describe the man's tattoo to those with her.
She accompanies them to check out the warehouse and wagons...
looking and listening first to avoid unwanted attention.
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Just to be sure, is Z'leyra checking out the warehouse or
following after the wagon? If the former, does she want to keep
together or split up and rendezvous later?
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra will mention this to the others. "Smoke over there and
sounds like an alarm."
--------
Z'leyra will keep together with the group.
GM: Ack.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
Kiet grabs the little girl and pulls her away from the door in
hopes Farseeker can get it open. "Quickly, child, hide! We're...
GM: Ack.
From Fremea: [Re: Actions]
Fremea, not having seen everything at first, to what then
happened with the fire tornado's, just looks around in a mostly
aghast and semi- frightened stare. As she sees kids lying dead
and burned and some injured she is not sure which direction to
go for a second. Then her survival skills kick back in, with all
that she has gone through in her childhood and that so many kids
can be caught in the cross fire of angry adults. She looks for
Raban and moves to him, at the same time giving instructions.
"Quickly, we do not have the means to help these people....
GM: Ack. Good stuff/post. Who knows just how this will lead
into the next adventure. :) Heck. Even I don't as I've
not started to work on it. :) But some vague ideas.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Quickly realizing that the wagon was going to be travelling
quickly, unimpeded by the regular foot traffic that would occur
on any other day but this due to the execution, Arawn stopped in
his tracks and turned back to look at the others. Deciding it
would be better to join them in the warehouse than attempt to
sprint after the speeding wagon he moved back to his friends.
Listening to Z'leyra's description he nodded.
"At least the fire will draw attention away from here in case...

[New Stuff]
[Augado 5th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Pamau Province, Pamau City]
[Time: 4:05pm]
The smell of burning clothing, flesh and wood fill the air
in the square. It becomes quickly overwhelming to the people
around the area.
Raban twirls a few times in place looking all around the
square at the chaos, the calmness of the dead and the intensity
of the fire still blazing at the stage. How could this all have
come down. If they were closer could they have done something?
Kell was close could he? Then again surely if they were close
Raban might've survived even the full blaze but Fremea would
be dust now. By staying back maybe she was saved by her sheer
position in the crowd.
Hearing the woman crying for his help, Raban turns and looks
down at her with tears in his eyes, "No, you do not want my help.
Katai may be beyond anyone's help because it does not believe in
what is real. This is the reality. If you try to kill someone,
they may be able to defend themselves and strike back. The ones
you kill that do not resist were the ones who could have saved
you. Now you face the ones who will fight and that will occur
much more often, it may even become a war as you have been killing
the ones who would have stopped them. I am sorry for all of you,
all of Katai, as it is Katai's own doing that has caused this."
As Raban seems to whisper his dialogue he is barely heard
over the screams, shouts and cries. It is almost as if Raban
is speaking to himself to reason what is going on and as well
to the Katai society. But as he speaks the middle aged female
tries to place fingers on a severe burn that is bleeding on a
boy's neck. Blood is gushing and even Raban with his primitive
healing skill know the boy won't survive longer than a couple
more minutes without help. The female with tears streaming
snarls and frowns at his words. She clearly becomes upset at
his words and glares back as she begins to pack clothing to
stop the bleeding but it doesn't help. Raban dazed even for
a giant stands up.
Following that, he turns and looks for Fremea, this place is a
trap, all who tend to others will be watched. "Lin Mong, we must
leave. This place is not safe for anyone."
Raban turns his back to the dying boy and the older female. His
heart is probably twice as big as Fremea's and 1.5 times as big
as most humans. But now it seems to break in half and shrink.
With a lump in his throat for the pain clearly around him he
approaches the small Faerry. If he wasn't on this blasted mission
even a risk of a trap might be worth helping these people. But
more people beyond these 50 or so dead or dying are at stake.
There are millions even in this cruel Empire and even more millions
around this world at risk. The greater good has to outweigh the
lone person even a close friend. But what if Fremea was on the
ground? Would that greater good even outweigh leaving her?
Fremea, not having seen everything at first, to what then
happened with the fire tornado's, just looks around in a mostly
aghast and semi-frightened stare. As she sees kids lying dead
and burned and some injured she is not sure which direction to go
for a second. Then her survival skills kick back in, with all that
she has gone through in her childhood and that so many kids can be
caught in the cross fire of angry adults. She looks for Raban and
moves to him, at the same time giving instructions. "Quickly, we
do not have the means to help these people ourselves, however we
can make sure they get help. As my father has taught me, find the
nearest soldier station and get them to here quickly. As I can not
run as fast, you will have to carry me today." This comes out
quickly and with an authority she almost realizes is hers.
As Raban picks her up and starts to move out of the mess and
possible bigger mess, she reflects on her place in all this. To
protect children as best she can from the destruction of adults
who are supposed to know more than them, she also realizes that
nothing she did back there could save any of them right now, as
she noticed the eyes from both sides watching. Her training may
not have been something she wanted, however it is something that
has saved her many times now. Though she may look like a child
here, she truly has grown up in short time. She knows that many
of those that survive will grow up to be even bigger haters of
magics and to do anything directly would only bring worse hate
later, so she will figure out a way to change things indirectly.
Once she has dealt with her own past and no longer has to
look over her shoulder.
Kell stands a bit away from Raban but stares at folks fleeing
out and soon fleeing back in. The sound of bells is heard but
it is drowned out by noise of cries and screams of pain. For
once in his life he is amiss of words. An intense sorror comes
to his face as he realizes the price two parents likely paid for
their kids to live another day. As he twirls to take in the scene
a memory flashes to his own head of his father and the past
days of family life, before it all changed. It is said Faerry
are self-absorbed and would likely care less of their young in
this way. They say Elves quickly leave their kids to the world
once they are trained and ready and in most cases do not have
long relationships. So they say. Since he is only a half-elf
he doesn't know if these things are true. But one thing that
made him proud to be human was the way of a human can be so
different from person to person. They say dwarves shrink in their
mountains when times get bad. Faerry tend to hide in the forest
until the danger is gone. Elves do fight but tend to only deal
with direct threats. But Humans will fight even with great odds
in spite of the danger. They fight for family and for their
culture. They fight with intelligence and cunning not just a
direct frontal assault always. His father treated him well but
he never underestood how human family really works till now. The
story of a mother and her kids is true and he finally understands
this. He notes this for future as he can't understimate people
anymore. Like that one merchant who said his father would come
back and never did. A lesson he had to learn the hard way.
Raban picks up Fremea to protect her and she sits on his large
arm and leans on her shoulder. Fremea is amazed that no one is
calling for help from her? Then it becomes clear that with her
fancy dress they figure she would be above tainting her virgin
hands with dirty blood. How moronic is that she wonders. They
need all the help they can and yet her station demands she doesn't
act or be called to act.
"Barbarian filth!" The woman who called for Raban's help yells
out to Raban as he walks away. He stops in mid-stride and
Fremea squeezes his neck to ensure his rage doesn't explode.
Raban glances around and more people are now flooding into the
square than leaving. Dozens and dozens are pouring in to help.
Merchants, peasants, local guards and other citizens. None are
carrying buckets to douse the fire as the wounded seem to be
the bigger priority. Raban notices one or two carrying bags and
must be healers.
Will overlooks the scene and realizes this is one image he doesn't
want to draw for his sketch book. He notices to the north east
street a guard in uniform that might be higher rank than most
begins to yell orders. He tells one boy to call for reinforcements
from the garrison. He tells others to call as many healers to the
square as possible. But Will is relieved to hear no orders to
round up suspects. In fact the chaos around him is too big to
have any form of control.
[Time: 4:07pm]
----------------------
[Time: 4:05pm]
As Arawn watches the wagon drive away he finishes up a prayer
to his parents for the possible help. But he knows the rules.
Gods can't directly influence things here technically. There
are exceptions and rule breaking. One couldn't take the form
of a raven but one could influence a raven to just fly a certain
way. If that way was to intercept a person then that was the
way of fate. He wonders if it is a omen that his parents or the
gods will be helping the party? That is good if they are, but
very bad if some like Kototh wants the Vong to win and may
be helping them.
Arawn steps away from the north-west corner of the warehouse
and begins walking fast west. "I guess we can always come back
later and check the warehouse or track them if they leave. Let's
see where the drivers are heading."
Quickly realizing that the wagon was going to be travelling
quickly, unimpeded by the regular foot traffic that would occur on
any other day but this due to the execution, Arawn stopped in his
tracks and turned back to look at the others. Deciding it would be
better to join them in the warehouse than attempt to sprint after
the speeding wagon he moved back to his friends.
Z'leyra points to the plume of smoke. "Smoke over there and
sounds like an alarm."
Listening to Z'leyra's description he nodded. "At least the
fire will draw attention away from here in case things get out of
hand. I just hope the others are alright."
Arawn jogs to the front to watch the wagon head off. Even if they
had horses they would be easy to see following in these empty
streets. He sighs and figures the warehouse might be more
important. He places face to wall and with great slowness and
low to the ground places a eye around the corner. There two men
remain. They are standing out looking south toward the direction
of the smoke and talking quietly. They are also smoking some
fire sticks of some kind blowing out white smoke. Arawn slips back
and tells the others.
On the other side of the building and this side the alley has
no doors. It has two small windows but they are fitted with
iron bars likely from past crime. Zhou did mention the city
had a high crime organization until recently. In the back, the
three windows also have bars but there is the one wooden door.
Glancing up there are windows on the second floor and these
are not glazed over. They seem to be clear and dark from this
angle. There are no bars showing they don't so care about
protection there.
Chion points to a stack of crates leaning against the warehouse
across the alley. There are about 12 or so of them. He
points to them and then does a motion with his hand like stacking
them and then pointing to the wall. His point is made fast. The
group could climb the crates, hopefully with little noise and
maybe get into a window on the second floor.
Arawn considers his options for entry inside. Crates and window,
climb up with no crates, back door pick or break in or front door.
Of course magic could be done but there is risk to that. Chion
mentions the door isn't a issue. He simply grins but does not
elaborate on it.
[Time: 4:07pm]
----------------------
[Time: 4:05pm]
At Baron Ka's estate the servant rushes off to get the key
down the hall and out of sight. The scream inside the room
seems to continue but slowly lowers in volume.
Kiet grabs the little girl and pulls her away from the door in
hopes Farseeker can get it open. "Quickly, child, hide! We're
going to try to help your Papa."
Kiet grabs his one rope and keeps the dagger ready but not yet
drawn. Then quietly curses.
The girl squirms out of Kiet's hands and tries to get back to the
door but Zhou grabs her. "It will be all right." Farseeker
glances over and Zhou nods his assent and to the door.
Farseeker checks the knob and as expected finds it locked. He
backs up and kicks the door near the knob and splinters and a
spider web of cracks form. Then he quickly kicks again and the
door flies open.
Farseeker rushes in, followed by Kiet, Unali. Zhou and the girl
remain in the hall for a few seconds.
Inside the room looks to be a standard office with bookcase,
desk and chairs. Lying on the desk with back to the top of the
desk and clawing his face is a well dressed man in Katai silks.
He slinks to the ground as Farseeker enters and claws at his face.
On the other side of the room stands a tall man dressed in a
brown trench-coat like robe. The man stands just over six feet
tall it seems and is about 180 pounds. He looks like a normal
Katai with the black hair. The man stands and steps away from
the fireplace which has a small flame in it. Inside the fireplace
a small set of scrolls begins to burn. The man simply stares at
the fireplace and smiles.
Farseeker raises his great sword flat and points it at the man
who is a good 14 feet away. "Stay there. Hands up."
The man begins to raise his hands but stops in mid level. "You
are all too late. For more things than you realize." He speaks
in high Katai which some nobles seem to use. He glances to his
right to the now broken window. He then glances back to the fire.
"Papa!" The girl tries to struggle free from Zhou but he holds
onto her. Kiet slowly walks a few feet forward. Unali slips to
the side of them and starts to approach the noble.
The other man then turns full frontal toward Farseeker. This
gets a gasp from Farseeker and Kiet. Unali turns to stare and
frown. The man's right side seems to have been torn away.
His cheek is sunken in and his right eye shows some strange orb
or eyeball. It shows a bit of gray skin and skull. Unali
draws her daggers when she realizes this is no man but a Vong
in some odd human disguise.
Farseeker charges past the chairs. This is when the Vong
reaches into his coat and pulls a black rod out. The 4 foot
rod is snapped into his hands and begins to grow to a six foot
amphistaff.
Farseeker swings his greatsword but the amphistaff lunges
forward in snake form. Farseeker has to release his attack
blow energy and duck from the blow. But as he does Farseeker
does a back kick onto the Vong's knee and he goes down to one
knee. The Vong who has to be Nom Amor swings his staff and hits
Farseeker in the neck. But as he does Farseeker does a head butt
onto the man's large nose. He notices Nom's nose is far bigger
than normal and quite bulbous. This causes Nom Amor to yell
and lurch back. As Nom goes back he thrusts the amphistaff
at Farseeker and it slices a bit of his shoulder drawing blood.
Farseeker goes back from the pain.
As Nom Amor staggers back he grabs his nose and it suddenly
bulges out. It unfolds! No. Yes. It begins to unfold down
the length of his chin and then quickly down his tunic and inside
his shirt. The rest of his skull seems to also unfold and the
human disguise is revealed to show Nom Amor in his full Vong
form. He snarls in anger as Kiet and Unali rush forward.
Nom Amor lunges his Amphistaff toward Kiet and it would have
impaled his heart if it weren't for Unali pushing him to the
side just in the nick of time.
But as the two struggle to regain their balance, Nom Amor
strikes at Farseeker. As the spear-amphistaff flies fast
his right eye suddenly jumps out two feet. It opens up and
sprays Farseeker. Farseeker screams in pain and falls to the
carpeted floor.
Nom Amor then lunges through the broken 5 foot open window
and dives to the first floor. He goes out of view. As Kiet
rushes to help Farseeker he quickly realizes the spray must've
been some form of acid. Kiet wonders if this eye implant is
more a weapon than a fanatical implant to glorify Nom's gods.
Unali gets to the window to see Nom running toward the gardens
and shrub maze to the north east area of the estate grounds.
Outside is a two story drop onto the grass.
