[Recap]
From Will: [Re: Actions]
OOC: I'm guessing that Unali is the best person at this sort of
thing but if she is in charge then she probably shouldn't go
first. I'm still not sure if there is climbing involved in
getting into this vent but we should probably get out of sight.
Will does have rope and stakes that could be used as makeshift
climbing gear. Does Unali have a preference of who takes
point?
Will says "lets get under cover... then sort out the details"
GM: Ack. Sometimes leadership means putting oneself in harm's
way or more than their troops might do. So ergo Unali
goes first. :)
From Unali: [Re: Actions]
Unali will move on with out stopping and into the vent, making
her probably first. She will urge the others: "Farseeker, Raban,
all, move on."
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
As the group clustered around the opening Arawn took a good look
at the surrounding area, scanning for anything of interest or
sign of danger. A few seconds later he turned his attention back
to the party, assisting those further back from the hole by
guiding them to it, ready to move in after everyone else had
entered and allowing the mist to dissipate once he was in.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra moves inside out of the rain and mentions "Often ...
GM: Ack
From Fremea: [Re; Action]
She has her senses revved up, to make sure that she spots
any mana spikes or no mana spots quickly.
GM: Ack. Had your post but ugh deleted it twice in goofy
mistakes. Sorry, if don't include the top of your post
below.

[New Stuff]
[Augado 10th, 1634TH]
[Location: Middle Katai Plains]
[ Mountains west of Pamau]
[Time: 12:09am]
At the other side of the ash field the group breaths and
catches the cool rain across their faces.
Arawn tries to stare around the surrounding area to discovery
any threats. But all he can see are rocks and more rocks. Above
him the storm is fading a bit but the edges of the top left and
right would still show up. But he sees nothing moving around
or Vong threats. Either the distraction has so far worked or
the Vong are clueless. He scans the rock but only notices
minor markings of animals that might be in the area or have been
some time ago.
Fremea also who has been a bit quiet settles down and smoothes
her dress down. But then she realizes that crawling in a dress
is dreadful. She bunches up them dress inside her boot and tries
to secure it to her nees and tighter to her belt. That way it
will not tear and hinder movement. She curses the man for forcing
her to remain in her cover. Fremea continues her full awareness
around the area. She doesn't notice any mana spikes or even
lack of mana signatures. At least this steam thing seems to
be natural made at this point. Once inside things may change.
Unali realizes that time is critical with spell durations
ending and more arguments might come about on who to go first.
She decides to finish such arguments.
Unali will move on with out stopping and into the vent, making
her probably first. She will urge the others: "Farseeker, Raban,
all, move on."
Will says, "lets get under cover... then sort out the details."
Will urges others to move before spells fade and folks can't
decide to move on.
As Z'leyra listens to others move in first she ensures her
gear is nearby and handy. Of the group she has a lot of gear
to shift and move around. Making her hard to crawl and scamper.
Z'leyra moves inside out of the rain and mentions "Often folks
with chronic injuries can tell that the weather will change
before most other folks...but some folks just seem to have a
talent for predicting the weather." She will position herself
near the front and start looking around for potential dangers.
With Unali going in first the order is set. Fremea decides to
go in next because her senses will be best as a forward scout.
Some of the warriors follows as well as Z'leyra in the middle
line. Captain Lin joins in behind Z'leyra which is far behind
Fremea and is good for her in case she needs to act out of
cover. Kiet and Zhou follows the Captain. Lastly Strie'bog
and Will followup the rear.
Raban has dreading this for a few minutes. He considered
going in first but if he got stuck others would have to
go back beck before he got out. So at the end if he does
have to go back out or use his move-through-rock trick he
can do so without being seeing by Captain Lin. Of course
he knows the trick going through wooden doors is far easier
than solid rock. He just hopes the rock will be easy on
his body frame. Why does such places seem so cramped?
Finally Arawn scans out time around. He notices the ash
field is now riddled with footprints. At this distance
and angle it is somewhat obvious but at hundred or so feet
the ash looks blurred so at least if seen above there
might not be so much tracks. But if a patrol or flyer saw
it close up then it could be a way to track the party. He
wishes he had more time to study and plan for such things.
But he knows the Vong may be on the urge for full out war.
Arawn climbs in and tries to end the spell of his mist. This
helps the others who are at this point blinded maybe 20 feet
ahead of him. At least the forward ones like Unali should
be free of the spell.
As Captain Lin explained the first area of the outside is
as outlined. But he had only seen 30 or so feet and there
could be hundreds of feet to go. The first thing that
folks notice is the floor is rather weathered from water
erosion. This makes crawling much better than lumps of rocks
at your knees.
The tunnel is pitch dark. But with Fremea behind Unali she
helps to direct Unali to ensure she doesn't hit her head or
make mistakes.
The tunnel begins to twist and turn. At this point the
tunnel is wide enough even for Chion and Raban to move with
ease. As Fremea watches the walls, Unali is unaware of the
vast things around her that Fremea sees.
At one point Fremea notices a niche in the wall about the
side of a human head. As Fremea is passing nearby she notices
suddenly two bright spots moving toward her. She quickly
reaches for her dagger wondering if it is a Vong bug or
animal. As the spots close in he hears a minor scratch
notice and notices a large rodent pop its heard out of the
side tunnel. Fremea notices it sniff the air and then
darts back inside the warren. The tiny spots were pin
point eyes that her eyes see well in the dim light. Fremea
moves after a few moments when she is sure the rodent is
more afraid of her and ignores her. In fact Fremea notices
a few such places like this in the tunnels but doesn't
scare most folks as some might not like them. Plus Squirt
might chase them.
At one point about 60 feet down the tunnel, Unali has to
twist and roll under a low hung rock. For her she can
twist and get through but she knows Chion and Raban will have
to rock their way. Once she inspects the other and Fremea
joins her, Unali uses a bit of her dagger hilts to knick the
rock so the others might pass. She knows it could take but
if everyone behind her does that then it might help and
save time.
At about 80 more feet the tunnel has been twisting up,
left and right. Fremea discovers Unali trying to test the
ground to ensure she doesn't dome cliff. But Fremea soon
finds the forward area is a downslope about 5 feet down. She
tells Unali it is a safe drop and there is no cliff but just
more tunnel going forward and up. Fremea spreads the word
along the line so folks know what to expect.
Another 40 feet down the tunnel, Unali seems to find the
tunnel slope upwards and ends. Fremea helps to solve this
by showing a portion of tunnel goes left but soon ends in
a rock slide. But she finds a tunnel above Unali about 12
feet up and so the first one who has ropes sends them along
the line to rig up a small climbing task. At this point
the inside area where Unali and Fremea stand is actual
large enough for even for Raban to stand fully up.
For the first couple hundred feet or so there are signs of
fissures in the rock as little as fingernails or as large as
small hands. From these fissures steam or bits of fog can be
sensed or felt. It is a bit warm but at this time it seems
to be only fissures and not geysers. At one point Kell does
feel a bit of steam pass by him making him a bit hot even
though those ahead of him didn't have the steam touch her.
But at this point it seems to be no dangerous than a steam
of tea on a stove.
Unali climbs up to the next portion of the tunnel cave.
She wonders how long this will go on or if there are more
dead ends. For al they know it could lead to no Vong and
may have to go back to the drawing board.
Unali moves forward and the heat seems to get must worse.
She even has to move her mask off a bit so she can see from
the amount of sweat. Earlier the rain on the body has been
removed by the movement and steam. Even though temperature
seems to be lowering the steam in this section seems to be
more absolute.
It takes almost 3 minutes moving in the section that seems
to have increased in steam. But others follow and make
it as fast as they can.
Unali rounds a corner and brightness is seen some 30 feet
away. It looks like it might be candlelight? She moves
cautiously and increases down the tunnel. At this point
the tunnel is about 5 feet by 4 feet. As she nears the
light she notices it on two sides of the tunnel.
Unali edges closer and sees the light is also showing
steam and smoke. She glances above the lip of the cave
and looks left then right fast. In that instant she
notices the area is full of fire. She sees then that
is a lava field. It is a long chasm below her maybe 200
feet. The lava steam is going left and right and is
far below the tunnel. But the tunnel itself moves on
further ahead. She actually notices the right section
there is a another smaller section of rock that might
have been at one point a another natural tunnel. But
it seems to have disintegrated. She looks forward and
about 30 feet the tunnel moves forward and left in the
darkness. The natural bridge is wide enough to cross.
But she inspects the below to ensure it is safe. She
is in luck to find the rock below is maybe 8 feet thick
and in some places maybe 12. That should hopefully
even hold Raban's weight.
Unali takes a good breath as the heat is very hot and
she dons her mask to help with that. She moves forward
and crosses the natural bridge with no issues but it
is a nervous time with a lava steam hundreds of feet
below. She wonders how far they have move in the
mountain? Some of the time they have been making
downslopes but can't be that low to be a natural lava
field. She figures his might be a lava tube that
is trapped by the mountain.
As the team crosses the natural bridge some fall behind
waiting to cross. Z'leyra crosses the natural bridge and
then Captain Lin starts to cross.
Behind him Kiet watches the lava light and wonders how
it would be best to die. Fall to the lava or buried by
rocks? Kiet glances behind him to check on Zhou who is
wiping off sweet with a silk cloth. Kiet grins at the
noble engrosses in grime and sand wasting a silk cloth.
Kiet starts forward as Captain Lin begins most of the
last part of the natural bridge above the lava field. But
as he moves forward Kiet is suddenly sprayed with a dense
spray of steam from the right. The fissure nearby is large
it is thumb size. Kiet begins to turn his face but suddenly
the steam is pelting his right arm and shoulder. Kiet can't
help but yelp in pain. This steam is fairly hot as like that
of a noble steam bath with fire rocks.
Zhou reaches forward and tries to pull Kiet backward as the
pain starts to hurt Kiet.
Ahead Unali can hear some muffled yells but can't tell who
it is behind her. She is inside a tunnel she can only crawl.
But when the noise seems to slow she realizes she can't just
go back and see what it is. There is no room. She moves
forward and the tunnel suddenly slops. She slides down a few
feet and skids. Fremea comes up and says the slop continues
on some 30 feet down a good angle but not a fall. In fact
she can just slide forward with ease.
Unali sides and the tunnel levels forward this time about 6
feet and 4 feet wide. As she crawls on she can hear the
faint noise of water. A faint mist of water vapor and slight
steam fixes making the area cool but warm as the feet from
the other area mixes with the cool of the water vapor.
Unali moves on about 25 feet and notices the tunnel moves
right and a bit of more water is in heard in that direction..
But to the left and slightly down the other area is dark
and seems to be quiet. She considers her next move to go
left or right.
