[New Stuff]
[Sepes 24th, 1634TH]
[Location: Sivas, Marentia - Cholan's Tavern]
[Time: late afternoon-early evening - 5pm-]
Ha'Kell just smiles at seeing his friends again. Telling of
his mild adventures in the Dark Lands, leaving out the time with
the nice wizardess in the DL, and Ba'ru. He appears happy with
the land, whilst he hasn't decided what he will do with the
land. Perhaps he will purchase more and more land until he can
really spread out and relax. His clothes and armor haven't
changed much, in fact, they appear to be the same travel worn
items he was wearing when the group met him in the Citadel in
the Dark Lands. They've been washed and smell better, but still
his same old traveling clothes. That hat and cloak are more
well worn but sturdy.
The handsome half-elf rarely goes after the ladies, letting
Raban have the fun, but he knows his appearance is as striking
as the bard's, possibly more striking. It is definitely less
intimidating. In this case he'll flirt with the cute waitress
and be his charming self. Those seeing his new shield can tell
Kell is very happy with it. The large-ish round shield is very
unique - all ebony wood with silver inlays and expertly-crafted.
The magical strength of the shield is equal to most metal
shields, yet it is lighter and moves quicker. Add the sheath for
a dagger or wand and other items and Kell is proud of it. The
sparkle in his pale blue eye shows he's not yet done with this
shield.
Kiet's shield is nearly the equal of Kell's, with slightly
different abilities tailored for his friend. The same sparkle
is seen in his eye while discussing Kiet's shield. Even the
small gift of a few arrows to Fremea makes him smile. Hopefully
she'll find those few arrows useful in tight situations.
Smiling at Kaylle, "1588? That's good, but really must try the
1612, it's even better." then he gives the cute waitress a sly
wink and orders 2 more wines. "The 1604 port-wine from vineyards
of Sterling is fantastic! Now to get Cholan to order some, it is
a bargain at 8 gold per bottle." -------
Arawn's offer of teaching is amazing. That's a long term
commitment to learning about the history and culture and more.
The Alfar's views will be different from the elves and even the
faerries since he is from the Upper World yet still interesting
and close to the other Sidh. Thinking for a moment then another
moment Kell agrees, although he knows his empathy is far below
that of most Sidh. The history and culture and views can only
help him over time.
Arawn smiled, a light shining in his brilliant blue-green eyes
as Ha'Kell accepted the offer. The Alfar was pleased to see the
half-elf's desire to embrace the other half of his heritage and
knew it would be pleasing to the Sidh gods. Perhaps with the
latter's blessing such knowledge could help the Elf discover the
whereabouts of his missing father, an oddly familiar thing it
seemed for the Sidh-blooded in the party, for all had been
separated from at least one member of their family.
"I look forward to it and perhaps in time I can show you the
wonders of the Sidhlands and the lands of our forebears. The
woods of this world are but shadows, our mountains soaring higher
than you can imagine, and the treasures more brilliant and
cunningly crafted," Arawn said, the light in his eyes growing
to a fire. "And if the power of your blood and spirit is strong
then our magic will be opened to you as well."
Cholan walks by carrying a tray of warm bread for the giant
who seems to eat more than a hall full of trolls. As he walks
by he hears Kell talk about his land and stops. "Why not
a vineyard?" then continues to feed the ravenous giant.
Kell considers that idea for his land but he doesn't even
have a home on it. Its mostly flat and most profitable vineyards
are hilly with terraces of the vines.
"A ranch? Some in Ba'ru have the best ranches around. Even
better than mine." The barbarian speaks as he drinks some ale.
"To be honest cattle might be more profitable than horses like
I do." Ben'dar then gnaws on a fork full of meat.
Z'leyra admires the ebony shield that Kell has. She smiles at
him for learning to craft well. Most wizards do not use this
ability and just use what they find. Even Will has done some
recent crafting work. She looks to Raban and wonders how he would
do. With his large hands and muscle strength he could fashion
weapons and armor much faster by sheer will and power.
Kaylle turns to Kell. "1612? I though there was a issue with
the heat causing the grapes to shrivel? Must've been a wizard
who helped to save them. For such a small nation Ba'ru does a
few things right." Then he sips the wine and smiles.
Kell wonders if he means few as in they do not much of nothing?
But the scholar is probably one who admires scholarly things above
everything else. Making Ticasi the center the world. Maybe he
didn't mean anything by it.
Kell entices the cute waitress over to his table. While the
tavern is closed to the public this private party is enough
to keep one waitress working. Kell reaches out to get her close
but notices Raban glaring at him so motions for her to sit. Raban
certainly does not like mistreatment of women. Kell tries to
charm him by showing his shield but the young girl is clearly
just smiling like a merchant listening to a story from a customer.
Clearly she doesn't care much about it. So Kell shows him a
few card tricks. One a gambler taught him in the capital city
of Ba'ru using deception to hide a card in plain sight. For
that she is intrigued and she asks to see it a few more times.
Kiet thoroughly enjoys the pre-wedding party, and it just
makes him look forward to the real thing...for Ben'dar, not for
himself!
Afterwards, when the group is settling down for some
conversation, Kiet broaches a subject he has been anxious about,
hoping the others might contribute.
"I have been thinking about this for some time, but I believe
now would be a good time to bring it up. We all have our own
lives, and we often end up going our own directions. The problem
with it is not the action, but the repercussions. What if our
group is attacked because of something, some situation, that has
occurred while out on our own? If we do not tell each other of
such things, I believe we endanger the others without good
reason. I'd be happy to start."
Kiet sets down his drink and begins. "I'm sure you all know
that Zhou was brought back. That I was glad to see. I wouldn't
have wanted all that effort to protect him go wasted." Kiet
smiles at his own little jest then continues, "I also saw a
small group of adventurers like us. They were headed for the
tundra area outside the Dark Lands to stop some encroachment by
the barbarians outside. I thought it was interesting that they
even had such difficulties."
"I also found myself involved in something that was really
none of my business, but..." He looks over at Fremea "...I just
couldn't leave those kids without helping. It seems there was
a rival business that was trying to force a bookmaker to sell
out. Well, they weren't going to take no for an answer so I
helped stop them...and kinda had to kill one or two of the
enforcers in the process. Well, the City Guard also got
involved and eventually arrested the Bhamotin rival. I hope
that no repercussions come of it." Kiet smiles a bit and says
"Well, that's where the spare nice boots came from."
Raban nods, "I heard something about that on the network."
He refers to the network of bards that talk from city to city.
"But it seems he was a low level thug. Not even connected
to a organization. So I don't anything of that. I believe
they deported him back to Bhamotin but not sure."
Kiet takes on a look of admiration and actually gets a bit
excited. "There was also this amazing flute player...he was
fantastic! You all should have heard it."
Z'leyra perks up on this as she was trying to also to learn
the flute recently.
Kiet shakes his head then continues. "I also ran into a gang
of thugs that were just stupid. Still, they may have friends
so it might be wise if we be on the lookout for people following
any of us."
Raban smiles and tells about his own run in with a gang recently.
He then spends the next 15 minutes going over his own past few
weeks. Since women are present he only makes a respectable tale
not giving too much away. But its is clear from Kell, Kiet and
Will's faces they want more details.
Raban ends explaining what happened here months ago. Talking
about the Climan assassins who attacked the party who seemed
to single out Unali. So actions the party did over a year ago
came back to haunt them. "So Kiet is right we have to be careful.
By now our reputations are growing. Not many groups with a Giant,
half-Elf, Faerry and a bunch of wizards roaming around. But
in the case of myself and Fremea it is a bit hard to elude the
obvious."
Kell takes the time to highlight his non-adventure time for
the past few months. The highlights are the new shield and
vambrace armor for his arms. No more arm hits that will nearly
cut it off!
"The land I purchased as a start. Eventually there will be
buildings and more. We can even build something for this group
if anyone else desires it. Ba'ru is well located and the market
in Ba'Ru city is second to none in the world."
The half-elf smiles mentioning how great the market is in his
home country.
Unali shares the fact that she bought a house to the group
during the evening, as well her impression that the city is
somewhat rough these days. She recounts the bar room brawl,
the diplomat's daughter and the bandit attack. She shows the
new found Kameri dagger to Z'leyra.
Z'leyra stares at the luck of the dagger using master. How
did she get it? A merchant must've charged a king's ransom.
Fremea spends the rest of the night at the party, doing her
best to enjoy it, even if she is completely uncomfortable with
the surroundings. She got used to the carriage and the people
staring at her because she seemed odd, but this is a completely
different feeling. Now everyone wants to have a good time because
of two being married, and they want to include her. She has never
been asked to dance or drink, yet here she has been asked over a
dozen times, by people she doesn't even know. It is disconcerting
to her and she is completely out of her element, if she actually
has one.
Even at one point Raban comes over and bows, which to him is
a sight in itself. He asks her to dance. But the height is
clearly a issue. It is like a man dancing with a fly. She
could hover but that's not dancing. But Raban seems to understand
this and shows her a empty table. Then after a few long moments
realizes his plan. She climbs up and now stands eye to eye with
the giant. Both dance to a song from Ba'ru. Cholan picked a
few decent entertainers to help out. So as not to force the party
to play instruments though some like Raban do so anyways. The
dancing is awkward but soon that smile from Raban seems to melt
any tension. Some of the party watch as the pair dance in their
own way. Even when Fremea is twirled in the giant's arm to
show a spin the party smiles.
Fremea does her best to enjoy herself none the less, but those
that have just spent over four months with her can tell there is
something going on in her head. First they saw her chatting with
Kaylle a few weeks ago after saving the world and now she is
at it again. There is some form of feeling showing through her
face, though most might take it as annoyance.
Fremea watches Kaylle how he can be so easy going? Even most
human scholars are hermits or introverts. Maybe its the time
here dealing with the masses in the city. He seems to handle
it very well to avoid the insults and taunts. Now he seems
even respected in the small few blocks around the library even
from the old timers in the area. Maybe one day she will be
that out going. But secrets, past and fate seem to prevent her
from forming the best bonds. After all she got rid of metal
bonds only a year or so ago. Most Faerry can't trust humans
very far based on how they re treated but with her treatment
in Donara she can only deal with them with respect as best she.
A lesson she hopes one day to give the slaver that trapped her
so long ago down his throat. A lesson that not all humans are
evil but misguided. Some certainly deserve their fate. She
hopes to point this out to the slaver even if its a blade point.
Once the party is over and most of the main group seems to be
functional again, she asks her friends (an odd word for her to
even think, much less say) to join with her at one of the tables.
She asks Cholan to provide anything that will help wake up or
sober up the worst ones.
By now the entertainers, Cholan's wife and the waitress have
left as it is nearing midnight or maybe even 1am. Cholan is
behind the bar cleaning. Curious by Fremea's odd request all of
the party members join them. Ben'dar and Pasha are outside
at the outhouse so she can use it and he guard her. Fremea sits
and folds her hands in front of her. Arawn notices she looks
older, wiser and more dignified in that posture.
"I have been working on getting information to find my parents,
since this is so close to where I 'grew' up. I know that Arawn
has offered to help my find them, since I was taken away and I
really do appreciate it very much." She looks around at the rest
hoping they are willing to help her, as this is going to take a
lot of resources. "I know that I have not spoken much since you
all have met, or rescued me. It is not because I don't have much
to say, it is because I do not trust anybody. I have come to see
you all more trustworthy, but it is still not something I can
just allow to be yet."
She takes a few seconds to sit, so she can gain her composure
for the rest of what she is about to ask for.
"With the help of Kaylle, I have learned to read and he has
given me some information on how I might find my parents. He has
been an amazing resource in this, but it is now my turn to take
what he found out and go to get them. I have a couple of
possibilities to follow, but before I get into them I have must
tell you all more of my enslavement. So, it is very important
that I know I can count on you to join me on my search before I
tell you more." She waits to see who stays.
Raban looks up to the second floor ledge. Just months ago
those Climan spies tried to kill them here. Now he sees Kaylle
inspecting some drab painting. Why is he doing that its probably
worthless? He looks down to Fremea and smiles. He was just hired
for 3 months of gigs. Including a visit to the palace to visit
King Maros's aunt or something. Something about some disease in
her ribs. Only his special gift might help her. But these
things will come and go always. The giant nods, "I'm game. No
need to ask more. I will smash castles and move mountains to
help you out." Fremea wonders if that is literal.
Z'leyra speaks up "I would be honored to assist you in finding
your parents."
Kiet listens to the little female with somewhat of a bit of
surprise. This is more sharing than she has done even after a
gift was provided her.
"Fremea, you should not feel ashamed of your past, especially
that which you had little control over. If I heard correctly,
even the king of this nation was a slave for a time. You aren't
one now, and that matters...though vengeance would not be
unexpected." Kiet gives an evil grin at that point.
"Before I commit to such a quest, what reason do you have to
search out you parents, and do you even know if they still
live?"
Kell listens as Fremea says more in two minutes than she has
over the past several months.
Somewhat floored at her words, he responds, "I will go with
you. Happily will I help you take revenge on those who took you
from your parents, your family." He grins his assassin's grin
at the last.
Unali speaks to Fremea, "You came along on a quest to save the
country I was born in. A quest that turned out an adventure to
save my family as well. And all that in a country full of people
that are so afraid of falling outside the norm that they will
kill those they deem strange on sight. You knew the risks were
there, and more so for you because of how you look and who your
parents are. And still you came.
"I know you are guarded with your feelings, not quick to trust.
But you have shown trust and friendship. I will be happy to come
along and help you find your parents."
Arawn had watched the frivolity unfold as the hours passed,
engaging in laughter and conversation at times before disengaging
for quieter moments. He had refrained when the others broke into
dance, though a hint of a smile appeared on his fine face, his
eyes studying the movements of the local style. As he did so his
thoughts drifted back to his own tutelage, the hours spent in
training in the arts of the dance and practiced in the Sidh
courts. It had also held a more martial purpose, the footwork
integrated into the movements of combat training, a blending of
art and war that had been encouraged by his parents.
At some point he found himself wandering over to spend time
with the animals, including a stop by Will's table to introduce
himself to the wolf that kept him company. The druid was glad for
the presence of so many creatures in the party, though forever
concerned for their safety considering the dangers the companions
often faced.
He was also intrigued by Kell's new shields, the ebony a rare
material and one the druid hoped to learn more of from the half-
elven trader.
As the night passed Arawn found himself withdrawing to a quiet
corner, a deep and thoughtful expression on his face. Whatever
it was he chose to keep to himself but when Fremea asked for
others to join at her table he roused himself to take a seat
near her. When the faerry shared her opening thoughts the Alfar
gave her a gentle smile of support. He understood that it was a
significant thing indeed for her to share those words, to make
herself vulnerable enough to allow others insight into her
nature.
During the rare private moments aboard ship or overland through
Katai Arawn had sought to connect, to let Fremea know he
understood, could sympathize, at times empathize with her. But he
had mainly kept silent, allowing he the opportunity to share when
she was ready. She was a creature who's life had been cloaked by
pain, only memories of a familial love and perhaps the strength
of her spirit keeping her from diving down the dark path so
common to those who grew up so. But he sensed the pain deep
inside of her, the desire to love and be loved, to protect the
innocence she herself had lost, the strong one who was looking
for the very things she kept at bay. He would do everything he
could to help her heal herself, to find her family or let her
find closure and so remained seated at the table.
Raban glances at Arawn who seems silent. He wonders how
he will react. After hearing Kiet and Kell talk about revenge
and such he might want to stop that.
Fremea waits a few moments passing the time sipping the wine.
She is not a wine drinker as much as most. But it gives her
time to think. Only one to not comment is Will. But she knows
the man is a quiet one.
After all replied, a small smile came across, which hid behind
it a smirk as well. "Thank you all." She wondered how Arawn was
going to take the information that she is about to say to them.
After a second, she takes a deep breath, looks around the
table and starts to tell the story or her life. Well, most of it
anyway.
"As I have said, I had been enslaved before joining with all of
you. But the enslavement was a bit different than most. There is
a reason behind it, though I do not want to get into here or
anytime soon, and I do not know why. This reason though, I will
say, was not my choosing and what I was trained to do was not my
own wanting. There are a few in the group that understand my
ways, yet those ways are not what I wanted. I do however embrace
them as my own to use in finding my parents. There is one name
that must be watched out for as we begin this journey, being
that we are in the area now. That name is Etain. He had a major
hand in training me and suspect has a lot more experience than
me." Now for the part that she watches Arawn very closely for.
"He is in service or works for the Faerry royals, so has many
more contacts and resources than we do."
She pauses to see if anyone has anything to say so far.
"After working with Kaylle to find out what was in the
Faerry's journal and notes, it seems that there could be a lot
more to my enslavement than just training me. There is a
painting that has prophetic images about me and something else.
This painting I believe is the first lead to what I must know.
It was last seen in Salaqara, stolen by a pirate named Ozon. I
believe we need to find this first as it might have a clue to
my parents. And apparently she had come across Jordi, who from
what I remember was a member of this party once and is being
tracked down by another of our own."
Raban glances to Cholan at the word of pirate. He will have to
send word to Damon. He has only met him a few times but the
sailor has many of his own contacts. He might have info on
this pirate. As well as Cholan himself. Raban turns back to
hear the rest of Fremea's story.
"I would like to leave in three days, Kaylle is hopefully
going to find some other information for me." Fremea is torn on
telling the party more, but still does not trust everyone. "It
would be good for me to learn the language that we will be
running into in Salaqara, so if anyone speaks it that would
be good. Z, can we use your necklace to quickly learn this? I
would like to get there faster, so if Chion could come teleport
us closer, but I do not know how to contact him for it."
Raban nods, "They speak Donaran in the province of Salaqara but
they do have a form of slight differences. I speak Donaran
expertly but not the subtle differences that the folks in Salaq
do." Raban considers three days should be enough time to try
to send word to Damon. He tends to sail up the river toward
Cholchara.
. Z'leyra replies "Of course. One of the things I did over the
past weeks was to further ensorcel the necklace to enhance the
likelihood of the person using it learning the language. I do
speak Salaqi so we could do this afternoon if you wish.
Three days should give me a chance to repair the damage my armor
took from a couple combats I failed to avoid recently."
Raban looks grim, "you avoided combats? What were these?"
Ha'Kell would also like to learn the languages where they
are travelling, and he doesn't know much about them or the
area. "I've never been to Salaqara, but spoken with people
from there. They can be rather, er, unforgiving about certain
things."
The half-elf turns to Z'leyra, "Does it also make the wearer
learn the language better?"
"Yes" Z'leyra replies. "I magicked it to boost both the
wearer's will and empathy. So not only is the likelihood of
learning the language increased but the skill in the language
is increased as well."
Kell dips his head in a bow to Z'Leyra, "Many thanks."
Then Kell turns to Fremea. Whistling a chirp, "Etain?
Faerry Royals and a pirate? This will be fun!"
"Does Etain work for the Royals or is he a Royal? How large
is this painting, it is famous? Why would a pirate steal it?"
Actions? Comments?
Next Update....Monday...
GM: Was going to get this out Monday. But only had Kell's
post and not much to do. Now all the posts and the mission
is on. So this is out finally. I got Tobie's post about
2:35am and I go to sleep at 3am on Monday so no time to
get it out. :<
GM: Raban's IBT I only slightly mention above as I can't recall
much of it now so just assume he tells all except what I
mentioned above. But been a while so I just forgot.
GM: Updinfo.txt - File updated. Just a reminder on important
posts like this one so in case folks need to go back to
find this mission briefing.
GM: Website: When I copy files from this clunker (all my
pnp files are over here and I've yet to move them to
the new machine) I just copy files to disk and then to
other computer and upload to website. When I do case
is vital. If you know HTML code then if the file is
"18.TXT" then it should be capital TXT. When I copy
to PC to PC the case may mess up. So if you see a 404
file not found then just look at the URL and change the
case. Most times its just a .TXT that should be a .txt
file. But like with Updinfo.txt for some reason I put
a capital U so that's important. I'll have to find a HTML
code to disable case like this. In my spare time. I'm
sure the HTML code is out there for it.
GM: Three days? Wow. When chatted with Tobie thought it was
right away. But I can work with it. NO! Don't think this
as IBT. I don't want to update sheets all over again like
last time it took 4 months. :) But I don't mind if you want
to spend the time to practice or a skill or such then that's
fine. Do whatever you need but I won't be spending CPs
again so no major sheet updates. Aside from whatever you
decide to do. Just let me know. I figure most will want
supplies and such.
