OOC: If/when Reddof is brought back onto the road Arawn will
cast Healing Mist at max EL but will defer to Z'leyra on
tending to him if she would like to try something else.
GM: Ack. Very good comments and insight. Good RP with you
and Kiet. So IC. I've noted such for points. :) Very good
post. Do you do this on table gaming? The detail or is it
darn hectic? :)

As for Arawn's comments, Kiet replies "You still haven't...
Then Kiet mumbles something about "damned meddlers"...
GM: Ack.

"That is an idea. Whilst I have only practiced levitation...
She proceeds to position herself and cast the spell (minimum
EL to reach Reddof) thru her staff to improve the likelihood
of it working.
GM: Ack. I don't see how you can control it without holding him
with both hands thus would not be able to use staff.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Not ignoring Kiet's question, just waiting to hear back on
what Arawn might know:)
GM: Ack. Sorry I meant to email you last night but things
got in the way.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn gave her a nod and prepared himself to assist as
best he could with Reddof's transport.
GM: Ack. I went with your plan since it was safer for the party.
But I'm going to reconsider Translocate in future. We've
done more blind porting but it does seem to be a requirement
more that precise info has to be known in future. I know
we cheat with levitate and such. But I will reconsider this
for the next adventure to either continue or restrict it more.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
Arawn's reaction is just in response to being 'jabbed' at
but he knows that Kiet is just venting his frustration and
it's not really aimed at the alfar. I'm waiting to hear
back from Scott on an OOC post and then I can post a reply
unless he's worked one up already.
GM: Ack. Yeah moved on but you can do it retro for RP purposes.
Strange either I missed it or never got Kiet's post in the
reply to this post. Oh well. No biggie.

[New Stuff]
[Eastern Thaliba - Plains]
[Decalis 2nd, 1634TH]
[Time: 7:15 pm]
With Kiet and Kell drawing attention to the magical sword
Arawn decided to voice his thoughts on the subject.
"If others in the group wish to wield it I think that would
be for the best. We walk a dangerous road and a stowed blade
is a useless one."
Knowing that the established party had their own tools or
else would have asked for the weapon by now he nodded his head
in the direction of their newest travel companions.
"Even if you carry weapons better suited to your skills
bearing the blade might prove useful. Though the spell worked
into the blade is not of great power it might yet prove handy.
But if no one wants it I'm fine with you gaining the blade," he
said, lifting his chin in Kiet's direction. "I care little for
the money you would trade for it though that might not be said
for the others."
Kell feigns a heart attack with hand to his chest upon hearing
about caring little for coin. But sits up and looks to the
new folks. "The spell can at least make bad guys flee if
over powered. But regardless it seems the blade improves
your overall chance to hit and better damage through magic."
Reddof looks to Arawn, "does one need to cast the spell?"
Since no one else seems to care, Kiet will offer 3gc for the
pathetic weapon. One can always make use of even poor magic.
---------
[Northern Thaliba - Forest]
[Decalis 3rd, 1634TH]
[Time: 3:25 pm]
The old man continues to move back and forth to each
person though for some reason skips Reddof.
The Old Man's oracular statements grabbed Arawn's attention,
the ever inquisitive and contemplative Alfar working to draw
insight from each pronouncement. His own elicited a thoughtful
smile, some of the cryptic message seeming clear while others
remained muddled by possibility, though the attention of his
parents was a comfort to hear, and he gave the man a grateful
nod. Holding back the urge to ask for a clearer message he hoped
to encounter a seer in the near future as it was not the role
of cryptic messengers to illuminate the shrouded depths of their
words.
The old man whispers to Unali and stands back allowing Arawn
to intrude a bit.
"Greetings and thank you, Wanderer," he replied. "Though I
would ask for clarity I sense that is a lesson and wisdom best
pondered. May I come to understand the fullness of your words
in due time."
The old man looks to Arawn. "I am not the Wanderer. I am
only a vessel for those in the heavens. We share truth and
wisdom but clarity is there before your eyes and ears. You
must resolve what we have given."
Arawn tests the waters, "Out of respect I will not attempt
to use magic to discover your identity so would instead ask,
who are you? And what more can you say of my 'destiny' and
return home?"
The old man grins showing more missing teeth. "We give you
that magic. With a flick of this bony finger we can take
it away and make you are mortal as that one." He nods toward
Zabyra. "Magic you may use but respect is earned. In due
time we may reveal the Courts we are aligned with. For now
we are a collection that serve Destiny and the True Path.
As to your own Destiny young Alfar. The Journey is always
the great reward not just reaching the destination. If
you survive the next year in this world who knows what
you will learn."
Reddof glares at the cryptic words. In his mind he recalls
a teacher who spoke like this and annoyed him greatly so
much he quit school until he died in a accident. It is bad
to have horses you ride slip their saddles due to loose bindings.
One fall and you might be dead.
Arawn asks the old man, "what news were you about to share
of this coming tide?"
The old man does not look at Arawn, "a tide can bring life
or death. It can bring trash or beauty. The tide to come
will be a great-" He stops and turns to Reddof frowning his
brows.
[Time: 3:30 pm]
Arawn become stone faced and squares his shoulders as he
speaks to the old man. "You spoke of a coming tide, what were
you going to say about?"
The old man turns from his comment to Red Shirt. "Time will
flow unless tainted. The river which is bent by man or magic
will divert the final delta to shift places. In due time all
will come to pass. Continue on the river and avoid the
twisting of the fate's past and future."
The old man glances at Reddof. Seconds later he kills the
man with a flick of his wrist.
[Time: 3:31 pm]
Without thinking Arawn quickly asks, "What did this man do
to raise your ire?"
The old man glares at Corona and then back at Arawn. "We are
not ones to take threats. We are given threats to who we are
all the time. Even Fanatics slip from their faith. This
one." He waves his stick toward Reddof. "Threatened to
kill me for speaking out right. Our Voice will not be stopped.
Our Domain will not be curbed. Our Wishes will not be
curtailed. "
Seconds later everything was a blur as Reddof impacted
against the tree and in the immediate aftermath. Arawn could
see the change as the channeling power left the old man and he
moved to step in before anyone else might charge the wanderer.
He was only an innocent vessel but if the hosting power chose
to intervene it would go poorly for the others and the druid
hoped to prevent that from happening. However it seemed that
others were of a similar mind as they held back his cousin,
Arawn shooting him a brief, pained look before turning towards
the fallen, likely dead, Reddof.
Arawn moved as close as he dared to the edge of the road as
he studied the warrior, the Alfar wondering what deed or thought
had offended the deific force so that it would result in
Reddof's demise.
Red Shirt tries to struggle against Kell. Glaring
at the old man and his dead cousin.
Trihs stops and looks o the old man who is walking
away humming to himself. "What is your name old man!"
Before Kell can tell the old man not to answer best not
to give out his name for a certain cycle of revenge to
come about, the old man waves a hand in the air. "I
am Cegaro Toman! Master of the fine wine and fine women!"
He giggles then goes back to his whistling and humming as
he moves south.
Z'leyra tells Red Shirt "Don't be a fool! Don't mess with that
old man. He likely knows more tricks than all of us put together
If you want to help, see if you can, without getting off of the
road, lasso Reddof's body so we can pull it back on the road...
it looks like his neck is broken, but I will see if he yet
lives. If not, at least we will be able to take him somewhere
we can give him a proper burial."
Red Shirt begins to stop struggling. He recalls the
rules and looks around wanting to see barbarians. He needs
to kill something. He'll take his chance. But he does not
see any native. Then he sees Zabyra looking over it would
be bad to see her hurt. Red Shirt stops struggling and nods
to Kell to release him.
Kiet doesn't like this one little bit! Avatars! One in the
area is more than enough.
The old man would have gotten an earful of pretty nasty
thoughts from Kiet. And there's no reason to keep them secret!
Something involving a spear up his divine arse, but with a
following thought that it will never happen. It just annoys
and angers the young mage.
After the old man 'powers down' and goes away, Kiet looks
directly over to Arawn and says in a voice loud enough for all
to hear. "Well, Arawn? Which of your relatives was that?"
Kiet's in a confrontational mood after the damnable snake
comments.****
As Kiet shared his thoughts with Z'leyra in light of the Old
Man's challenge Arawn remained silent. He understood the Old
Man's point but realized the question held many levels, not so
easily answered and holding an enormity of weight. The Shaman's
path was one of service, a medium between the physical/mortal
realm and the spiritual realms. Whether deities, the spirits of
plants and animals, the souls of the dead or any other source
each alliance was one to be cultivated - by both parties.
And it would be such a thing that would make a difference in
the dark days ahead, for all the companions, if both his long
held thoughts and the old man's warning bore truth.
Arawn seemed unfazed by the old man's divine reveal, almost
as if he expected him to be an avatar. The only reaction was a
subtle one, his eyes shifting ever so slightly in scrutinization.
As for Arawn's comments, Kiet replies, "You still haven't
answered, and I suspect you know more about that being than
anyone here." Thinking of that, Kiet asks the rest of the group
"Well? Do any of you know who that really was and what his
purpose was?"
Then Kiet mumbles something about, "damned meddlers."
Kell shrugs, "I'm no scholar or godly lore expert. I have
no clue who or what that was. But he answered himself. A
divine portal it seems. I do recall a childhood memory of
some aunt speaking of some Avatar during a Dechan or maybe
it was Vahearing period or something. But that's all I know..
"Perhaps one of those you call upon!" Arawn retorted,
perturbed at the acrobat's attitude. "Or do you think your
spells shape raw unaligned forces?! Only natural benders can
do that, all others invoke and evoke other powers including
yourself. You forget that as you delve into these depths you
align yourself to them and are bound by rules, ever more so as
you grow in skill."
"Now channel your frustration elsewhere, I'm not the source
of your woes, and lets work together to see if we can save
Reddof."
"Kiet, your enchanted rope and Z'leyra's levitation should
hopefully help to prevent any further damage as you pull him
in." Arawn considers the options at hand.
"That is an idea. Whilst I have only practiced levitation on
myself, maybe I could...." Z'leyra starts to mumble as she
ponders. Then "Yes! I could get close, cast levitation on both
myself and Reddof, lift us, back towards the other side of the
road and set down. That should get him back to the road without
further injury. Good idea Arawn."
Arawn looks back to Reddof and the range is too far for his
spell to detect if he is alive or not.
Before Kell begins to cast Levitate, Kell steps forward.
"Stop. I specifically asked about this. Even floating above.
Is a violation. We can't be sure we aren't being watched.
Technically by his death it is a violation and they are by
right clear to attack us. But I think Arawn's spell is the
best. Trasnlocate him here. "
Arawn starts to build for a large translocate spell. It
needs a high level of magical energy to reach the 9 feet
toward the body. Once touched by the magic it can be
sent to the road. The spell could use the energy to translocate
over 4,000 miles. But he needs that energy to reach the body.
Soon Arawn casts the spell and Reddof appears on the road
feet away. Z'leyra quickly confirms that Reddof is dead from
the broken neck and the back of the head that likely did
enough damage to smash the brain against the skull causing
brain death. Even a high spell of regeneration or such would
probably not save the man.
Red Shirt shoves Z'leyra way. "You did enough!" He lifts
Reddof and places him stomach down on the saddle so the horse
can carry him to Zara. He turns to the group. "If I did not
need to go to Zara I would return to the Camp. I appreciate
your welcome and hospitality. Being safe in a caravan is
much better than alone. But once we reach Zara we will part
our ways."
[Time: 3:42 pm]
The party moves north west on the road through the forest
in silence. Some like Kiet are still fuming. Some like
Arawn are sad but intrigued. Some like Red Shirt want
utter revenge.
[Time: 5:48 pm]
Still in Tilani lands the party makes their camp on the
road again. Some are concerned that 4-5 more days taking
the body of Reddof could be a bit messy. But no one wishes
to bother Red Shirt and anger him further.
---------
[Northern Thaliba - Forest]
[Decalis 4th, 1634TH]
[Time: 5:55 am]
Camp is broken up with no disturbance during the night.
The party is interested in seeing Red Shirt actually wearing
a tan shirt. It seems his spirit has changed and the care
free lucky mood has shifted.
The day turns out to be clear, bright and sunny. Very
few clouds if any. Temperature wise it ranges from 54
to 78 at noon. There is no weather aside from a light
breeze.
[Time: 11:03 am]
The party has passed several groups but nothing bigger than
a half dozen horses at most in one party. But now the party
sees a sign on the right. It says in 4-5 languages "Now
leaving Thaliba and entering Zarun. Once you pass this
sign you are in Zarun."
Kell nods, "guess we can spread out now a bit off the road
if need to. Around another 80 miles or so till the plains."
[Time: 5:45 pm]
Camp is made in the forest off the road. Wood is taken for
a campfire finally.
---------
[Northern Thaliba - Forest]
[Decalis 5th, 1634TH]
[Time: 6:03 am]
Party breaks camp once again. Kell tried to lighten the mood
a bit last night with a hour long acting session on a long
running Ba'ru play called The Salt Titan about a trader who
had large salt mines around the nearby nations but was so
engrossed in gambling it cost him his family, business and
life. Now at breakfast even Tan Shirt speaks a few words to
Zabyra and Pyan.
The day turns out to be bright and sunny today with no clouds.
Temperature does not vary with it only being around 61-69
degrees all day.
[Time: 11:06 am]
A lone rider begins to catch up moving fast. The party
lets the man come among them and the rider slows down. He
eyes the dead body on the horse. "Lost one as well?" he
speaks in clipped Marentian. He looks very depressed and
sad himself. "I was in a party of 7 myself. Those barbarians...
attacked when one of the horses slipped and stepped off the
road just 2 feet. We tried to explain it was an accident.
But they surrounded and slaughtered us. I had to hide in
the forest and elude them for hours. My best friend I
could hear screaming for over two hours....I will never
travel this way again...."
Trihs aka Tan Shirt nods, "my cousin. It was so pointless."
He considers going into details but he still needs protection
from bandits or monsters till he gets to the city.
The lone rider nods and gallops on moving fast westward.
[Time: 3:12 pm]
The road finally stops going north, northwest and evens
out going just west through the forest.
---------
[Northern Zarun - Forest]
[Decalis 6th, 1634TH]
[Time: 6:11 am]
Today the clouds roll in all day with little sun but it
is not fully overcast. Temperatures range today from 41
to 68.
[Time: 4:01 pm]
A sudden storm erupts above the forest forcing the party
to take shelter among the trees. Heavy rain and lightning
occurs for 23 minutes before it moves on. By then the
party is fully drenched and a bit cold.
[Time: 5:45 pm]
The party lost time due to the storm and the whole Avatar
situation but the party finally camps for the night off into
the forest.
---------
[Northern Zarun - Forest]
[Decalis 7th, 1634TH]
[Time: 5:40 am]
The day ends up to be sunny and clear finally. But the
temperature does get a bit colder ranging form 39 to 68.
[Time: 5:32 pm]
The party finally camps yet another night in the forest.
The estimates are 15-20 miles till the Zarun plains are
seen.
[Time: 6:39 pm]
Reddof is laying in a tent in a sleeping bag that serves
as a body bag. The smell has started to mix with other
smells in the camp.
But the party has maybe 2 more days before they get to
the city.
Now Arawn tries to subdue the group anxiety and mood by
doing a Sidh Dance he learned in the Vassa Sacred Forest.
Everyone is in camp around the fire except Kiet who has
entered the forest some distance away to relieve himself.
All still have weapons at hand and wearing armor as it
is too early for bed and sentries.
Kiet is about 30 feet away from the camp in darkness when
he is just putting this clothes back together when he
grabs his shield. Suddenly he hears a noise around. No.
Above. He glances up just in time to see two forms diving
toward him. The first form tries to land on top of
the acrobat but he rolls to the side. The second form
actually leaps up on his stomach and begins to lower
something toward his chest but Kiet is able to just in time
draw his shield to block what it is.
Acquainted in the darkness now Kiet stares up to see a large
form. The form is 5 feet in length giving most of its body
off of Kiet. Kiet can see a blinking eye. No. Several eyes
around the diameter of the body. The creature raises back up
as if to strike again and it seems to tower over Kiet with legs
over 9 feet tall when fully standing but in crouch mode maybe
4-5 feet. He sees red mottling around the creature. Then
Kiet realizes this is a spider! No. A very LARGE spider.
Kiet knows his dagger is on his belt but where is his javelin?
Did it go flying in the scuffle? Kiet can hear noises all
around as if they are in the trees or forest but he can't
tell where they are going or heading. The other Great Spider
begins to move toward Kiet again as the other one stands above
his chest ready to attack again.
[Time: 6:39 pm]
[Phase 1]
Actions? Comments?
Next Update.....Monday...
GM: A good place to stop I guess. :) I wanted to get to
the next major encounter. After this it will be the
city. Kiet sorry it was purely random a d9 to see
who might be one to be the first victim errr I mean the
first target. Lucky for you bad first rolls. I had
wanted to start at noon but instead a bit later than 2pm.
So plans were ruined so I could not go into more detail
and include a map. If I have time I can try to do a map
tomorrow or Saturday. But I just ran out of time. Not
my choice. I tried. Next update will be started I hope
Noon Monday and then Thursday Noon. I still need to
do some online shopping and take a vacation. I'm not
sure when that can be done yet. Sigh. So for now consider
no warning unless Kiet yells due to no sleep spells. :)
Again this was a d12 for time period. For easy sake I
will consider all to have full access to armor (assume
worn) and weapons. In rushing to get a 8 hour updtae into
4 hours I had some document issues and may have lost some
text. So if things don't make sense above - sorry. Not
my fault!
The Avatar thing was planned since start of this adventure
due to the points built up. To new players I believe
heavy into Balance. When one for example casts 100 Luck
spells a day to cheat in gambling then the gods notice.
They get annoyed at giving that mana to simply earn some
coin. On the other side a wizard who casts death magics
to kill crops and some cows while avoiding humans might
be noticed by the gods of death wondering why they are
doing that and not killing humans. The Laws of Magic
are numerous and when one is ignored the gods take
notice. If you simply cast a spell and go on about your
day without some ritual or deference the gods notice.
If you are a bounty hunter who steals and takes bounties
but ignores the family being kidnapped, raped and killed
en route to a bounty then you will be noticed. Deeds
and wisdom are the hallmarks. Gods are not here to just
be used a vending machines for good luck in army battles
or gambling. Thus each person starts their numbers and
gains or lowers their value based on their actions. A good
way to lower at times is also to role play and retrospection
to show that you understand things. Posting one line
things we are not sure what is in your mind. This is not
a bad thing just a way to bring the mythos of gods into
the real world. I think of it like the Classic Clash
of Titans movie where gods intervened and noticed the
heroes but ignored the silly mechanical owl. Do not fear
though as a person will not be Avatar visited every day.
In fact in 30 years its only been twice. But as points
do rank up though gods take notice. Just be warned. There
is no chart for players to view. For the most part all
are doing a fair job.
PS: Well I did not get update out Thursday as planned. It
was beyond my control but I did try. I hope this gives
you time to reply to the new situation. It will
probably be a couple phases before party can do much
either way. If they are warned. So I did do a quick
map for now.
PS PS: :) Ok. I had hoped to get it out late last
night but nope. So here goes for Friday. I was going
to post it last night around midnight with no map.
So tonight (Friday) I finished map. So sorry if its
confusing. This is the second map as I goofed the
first in cut/paste and had to redo it. Stupid dwarves
made me hit wrong key.

But in reality its a circle so there is no corners.
I show where Trees/Bushes are bases on this camp light.
Other hexes may have others but not shown due to darkness.
Map with no hexes - for ease of viewing.

To Clarify - Kiet is only one to be aware of the Spiders.
I may allow a hearing roll or something for the Sidh (Arawn,
Fremea, Kell). But unless he yells (assuming he survives the
next phase) the party will not know. I will do 2 phases
on Monday. This is short notice but it may just take 1 or
2 phases for Spiders to get in position.
