[Recap]
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra mentions that "I am skilled at making containers...
GM: Ack.
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
Oh that is a neat skill to have! If only Kell had that ability
years ago, he may need to ask Z'leyra more about it. "That is...
If the group agrees, Kell will leave early to spend his free
[IBT] time is his hometown. Then everyone can meet up at the
"Blue Eel", one of the best cheap inns in Ba'Ru. Cheap meaning
better prices than most, and definitely better quality than
most.
----------------
To Kiet, "We can find a good horse together! But if we...
GM: Ack. If you do go to Ba'ru in IBT best bet is to teleport
with Arawn/Unali (if she goes back) to Maren. Then take
a ship or ride fast to Ba'ru. Will need to keep this
detail in IBT. Figure 2-3 hexes by boat. There is a road
so that will speed up travel by 50%. So if going by horse
using R3 by road (17 hexes) at 29+0.5=44 miles per day. Or
340 miles will take 8 days of riding to get to Ba'ru. Unless
you stay at Cholchara city. Then about 3 hexes from the
Fort to Ba'ru. So 1.5 days. So that'd give you 4-5 days
in Ba'ru before you meet group. If by boat its 20 hexes
or 400 miles so depending on winds 6-20 days of river
travel. This is only a guess though may take shorter
with a good barge and such or using Damon's ship. So
keep this in mind if do so. Or Just Ask Chion to take
you to Ba'ru in a instant. :) Can't recall if Kell knows
Chion...
From Kell: [Re: Actions]
Kell wants to go through Ba'Ru. Supplying will be cheaper and
much more fun! He can even be in the advance group going
through Ba'Ru.
With Z'leyra's bags, that covers the grain for all the horses.
No wagons needed.
GM: Ack. It does cover all? Maybe I missed it then I saw
only making 2 bags? Anyways Ba'ru is the last bastion
of life so once leave that area it will be weeks of travel.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
Kiet sets his face with a dispassionate look. "As I said...
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
In response Z'leyra says "How much gear are you talking...
GM: Ack.
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
Most of us are not "Friend of Zen'da People"...so I doubt they
would loan us horses. In a barbarian culture...? One that
lives on the plains and NEEDS its horses? I just don't see
it
Dec25 afternoon- Go to usual place and set up as before.
EL4 or max purification for Knowledge spell EL3 or ...
GM: Ack. Z'leyra and Unali are Friends of Zen'da. I believe
Fremea was around in adventure 2? Just did a search for Ti'u
Kelom the passes given by Cetric. Seems Z has one on sheet
but none others. Unless it was typed wrong (used keyword
search for that name). But as I say Caladan or Chion could
help in that regard. Spells cut off for ease of reading.
You posted that to list and not email? Is that your IBT?
From Kiet: [Re: Actions]
"I don't have a large amount of extra gear. I prefer to...
OOC...I keep pretty close accounting of the weight the horse
carries. With my armor and weapons I'm less than ten pounds
away from slowing the horse down.
"If you have any spare sacks, it might be enough to remove...
GM: Ack. You did great on the gear. But yeah doing 1 horse
will hinder things for you guys. Not for me. :) Except
for work doing the math up.
From John: [Re: Maps]
OOC: Hill terrain as listed on PnP maps are considered mountains
by most modern sources, the Map Book listing Hill terrain as
being between 2,000 to 6,000 feet in elevation. The length of
the Appalachian Trail would be considered Hills in PnP as well
as parts of the Sierra Nevada range, for example. Trying to
cross some of these ranges in winter would be difficult, even
with a proper trail.
GM: Ack. I've always not adhered to that for hills. To me it's
more small foothills. Something like Ireland is famous for.
Not really mountains. So travel on them is not a big issue
for most things. In my universe.
From David: [Re: Maps]
Here in Oregon we have a mountain that sees snow at the 4-5000
foot range only in the dead of winter...2-4000 foot will get it
only occasionally. Only above the 6k foot level does it
really, really snow (at higher elevations they have snow year
'round). So, in my experience, there would likely be but
little hinderance from that kind of weather.
GM: Ack.
From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
The Kameran is forest, hills and mountainous terrain. While not
as far north as the Helva or Ipanza it is still fairly far north
and will have fairly severe winters. I live in central Alaska,
I know winter. Our family raised horses. Horses will have a
hard enough time getting through the snow without trying to
drag a wagon or a sleigh behind them. Indeed if party members
knew skiing or snowshoeing I would recommend using those
instead. Yes, a sleigh could work fine in the snow covered
plains south of the River Dirlla, in Zen'da lands. If there
were roads a sleigh could even work in the forest and hills...
but without roads a sleigh would be more trouble than its
worth. Don't even consider a wagon in snow deeper than knee
deep.
GM: Ack. You guys consider snow/mud to be issue for horses and
wagons. This is true. But in a pbem there is limited time
and I can't just stop every day and deal with mud or snow.
So I've not pushed this stuff forward into the game.
From Mark: [RE: Weather]
Here in Colorado, there is Pikes Peak outside (roughly) my
house. It rises 8000 feet higher at its point than the base,
the base is ~6000 ft above sea level, the peak at ~14,000.
These are mountains, the Appalachian Trail is hills, not
mountains. Not saying it is easy without a trail, but far
easier than the mountains here. There is no crossing
without a true pass or canyon.
Below 6000 ft, the snow is very light. Between 6000 and 8000,
more. Above that, well it can be nothing to a huge drop of
snow. There is a lot less oxygen at this elevation.
I see them as hills, and they may get light snow but shouldn't
be bad. Unless there is a blizzard, that does happen. Either
way, still hills and not true mountains.
GM: Ack. Here in Florida we have mountains we call them skyscrapers.
For hills we call them highway overpasses. IT does get cold
here in Jax though it snowed flakes last year once. I do have
a cabin in pidgeon forge, Tenn which is on a mountain but
to me its a big hill as its only about a 10 min climb up via
a car/road. Sometimes clouds though are in the valley below
so we are high up.
From Mark: [Re: Weather]
So it will be cold. With some snow likely, but no real idea how
much. Could be nothing for a light winter, or a lot if there was
just a blizzard. So where are we at deciding?
Logistics?
1. No wagon or sled. We all agree on that.
Horses - take or not? Ride or go on foot?
GM: Ack. I use my weather charts/project files that are online
for weather. I don't take it overaly complex though.
Just takes time if you bog it down in a pbem. As to logistics
maybe we'll finally get them settled after 2 weeks.

[New Stuff]
[Decalis 25th, 1634TH]
[Cholan's Tavern]
[Time: 8:02 am]
Z'leyra mentions that, "I am skilled at making containers that
hold more than one would expect. Indeed I think that I can make
a large bag that would hold 75 pounds, almost two bales of hay.
Hopefully small enough to be tied behind a saddle. But after
enchanting it should hold seven bales of hay. At no extra
weight nor size. If filled with grain two should be more than
enough for the party's horses. Between making and enchanting
bags and doing Foyson theft and making waybread I will be
fairly busy till we leave. I expect that I will also make,
enchant and sell an item to pay for expenses."
The Chief constable looks at Z'leyra, "I suspect there are
no expenses once enter the plains. So two sacks which can
you say hold 75? So 150 pounds of grain. My math shows
that would be enough for 2 days of travel. Then what? Or
is my math wrong? What about the other weeks of travel?"
Oh that is a neat skill to have! If only Kell had that
ability years ago, he may need to ask Z'leyra more about it.
"That is amazing and can really make the trip better! Can you
make three of the bags to hold their food, in case one is
stolen?"
"Now what is our route? I am very happy to travel north to
and through Ba'ru. It's been a while since I've been home. If
we travel there we can easily resupply at less cost, I know a
few people up there." He grins as he thinks of Ba'ru and maybe
seeing his family and friends and former master too.
"I say we travel north to Ba'ru, then either take a ferry
across the sea (as it's called at home) or ride north. Taking
the ferry puts us on the west side so we have one less river
to cross later. Why don't we skip using magic for the whole
party, just go chat with Cetric then we ride north."
To Kiet, "We can find a good horse together! But if we are
going through Ba'Rual, I want to spend at least a week at home.
You and anyone else who desires is more than welcome to join
me. We will be the advanced party and have a great time!"
Grinning again thinking of spending around a week in his home.
The new guys look interested but they have been tasked to
more or less watch Z'leyra so leaving would be bad for
their jobs.
Fuk looks to Kell, "I agree best bet is to send horses
up the west side. Forging the river is easy for people
but horses not so. Good plan on that part."
Kiet sets his face with a dispassionate look. "As I said
before... " His voice is as even as he can make it, then
continues. "...I bought my horse for a reason, and I need a
second one to carry my gear. I cannot carry everything on Ma
Siwang...it overburdens her."
Kiet thinks about it for a bit, then says "The Zen'da horses
are unlikely suited to my needs."
Lucria sits back and crosses his arms, "I know many good
Zen'da horses are for speed and combat. Since the people
are nomadic they do not need much stuff to take. So you
may be right on how much those ponies can take."
In response Z'leyra says. "How much gear are you talking
about? Can it be fit inside one of the magic bags I will make?
The problem with bringing more horses is keeping them fed and
watered. Indeed, I am tempted to have us board our horses at a
stable, likely Ben'Dar's, and go on foot from Cetric's camp
where we can be teleported to. The Kameran is certainly not a
place I would take a wagon in winter, bad enough taking horses."
Fuk looks stunned, "so we are now saying this will be on
foot and ...magic? No horses. What if we get lost in
the Kameran and ...have to flee. Fleeing tribes in the
hills or forest will be dangerous without horses. But we
can certainly do it by foot. It would save time if we use
this magic. It would save a few weeks travel for sure.
But we must consider being surrounded by possible hostile
forces Course some would be risky with a wagon."
Kiet turns to Z'leyra, "I don't have a large amount of extra
gear. I prefer to travel lightly. But it's enough to stress
the warhorse."
"If you have any spare sacks, it might be enough to remove
my need for a pack horse. However, food for the horses is not
a problem for me. Still, one horse to care for is much easier
than two!"
"And I do not understand the hesitation to enter hills with a
horse. Sure, we might find areas where we need to walk and lead
the horses, but even in the winter it won't be difficult for
the horses. It's not mountains! Those I wouldn't even consider
doing in the winter, especially with a horse."
Kes walks away with his son as no one seems to care they are
around and goes to feed him.
Actions? Comments?
Next Update....Monday..
GM: Another short update. I started this at 1:30 and it's
now 5:30. It took those 4 hours to catch up on the new
posts that came in. Didn't even do new stuff until
like 5pm. So new posts at this time slows things down
but do take time. :< Right now just waiting on logistics
so I can start IBTs. Now Z has said could just teleport
the entire way. Keep in mind comments above. This
will also mean folks will not learn Kameran language
on the trip. Even more things to consider. Plus
any possible treasure or dead bodies from the
adventure. :) Once details are done will start IBTs.
GM: Logistics still not finalized. I know many are waiting.
At this point it is 100% in Z'leyra's hands.
I covered it the last 2 updates but I'll do it again.
* Wagon/Sleds
* Horses
* Route
* Advance parties?
* Teleporting sops
* Help from others as outlined in last 2 updates
I outlined what I'd do in last update and some did
have same ideas at least.
GM: Ferry - Will be few and rare on the river. Might be
day or days before a barge comes up that far into
Zen'da lands. It will be very difficult for horses
to cross so keep this in mind. Once across it will
be easy travel. Why suggested advance party on west
side of river.
Wagon - Mud/Snow to me will NOT be a factor this adventure.
Cold will be for players and horses. But not to
moving. I just figure it would bog things too much.
I figure getting around such things or with skills
is too easy to solve such obstacles.
Horses - So far its been said 1 horse which will hinder
gear loads. Keep in mind slowest horse means fastest
speed. If I recall 3 were encumbered which meant another
horse. So if 1 horse per person is needed it means those
folks will have to leave gear.
Water - Water will be a factor but not mud. I will
have to figure out water requirements for each set
of horse and person. I was rather lenient on this
last time but there were towns and such on the way
not this time. Villages might help with water but
wells might be limited. I do not have math on this
until I know what horses are being taken. Plus
time of trip.
Food - Again hunting and player rations are no issue
at all. It will be for horses. Assuming 3 fp per
horse per horse this is 30 fp per day. At least
2 weeks travel So needing 420 fp. Grazing will be
possible but it will range from 0-3(maybe 4) fp
per day so might only average 1.5. This was
all documented in food charts last leg of travel.
This is why several almost died. So if one depends
on grazing then let's say 2 fp per day. That is 280
fp. So 280-420 for just 2 weeks of travel. This does
not include travel back but can be dealt with TPing?
One bag is 10 pounds of grain for 10 fp. So you are
talking 280-420 - 28 to 42 bags at least. This means
280-420 pounds. So the bags will hold 75 right? So
this would need 4-6 bags of JUST grain. Oats and
Hay not included. This means 1 bag per person would be
needed less gear per horse. This logistic is critical
to travel sadly. If no wagon then Fremea will have
to fly all that distance or buy a horse just to ride.

GM: I started a Ship Project many years ago. Everything
pnp needs on ships. I was stalled on construction.
But I think I solved it with a good set of formula.
So I will try to restart and finish. Its 90% done
with documents already done from encounters, NMIS,
and the like. If anyone wants to beta test the
info let me know. Just have to finish construction
and combat (easy).
GM: Distances:
Sivas to Village by Land:
Path Hexes Distance
Sivas to Maren [Road] 12 240 miles
Maren to Cholchara [Road] 9 180 miles
Road to Marentia Fort 3.5 70 miles
Option-to Ba'ru City 3 60 miles
Fort to Village [Plain] 21 420 miles
Option: Ba'ru to Village 23 460 miles
Total: 910-950Miles depending on Ba'ru visit
Sivas to Village by water
River to Village 31 620 miles
River to Village 5 100 miles
Total: 720 Miles
Village to Kameran border (roughly)
Zen'da Plains to Border 43 860 miles
These are rough estimates and I may be off a few
hexes. These are various options.
So let's say ship wagon/horses by barge up river.
So let's assume a simple barge doing 10-20 miles
per day. Might even do more with good winds. Let's
assume 15 on average. That's 40 days. Ok. So shipping
ahead of time may not be a good option. :)
How about going to Ba'ru and getting supplies there?
Wagons? Horses? That is the closest large city to
the village. If prepare is done at start of IBT and
say a person ships those items (wagon/horses from Ba'ru)
to village then would need only cross 460 miles.
At 25 per day would be 19 days. Almost in the IBT
time period.
As GM I'm only trying to cover options. You guys have
to do some serious logistics to decide. Mainly the
horses and/or wagon/food. To fit within the 2 weeks.
Above there are some option as well. Chion if in town
could be swayed to help as he could probably teleport
2-3 wagons in one jump.
