After getting the collar off, Fremea feels better. Another one no longer in slaved to anyone. She looks at the tossed collar, and just shrugs. It is no worthless.
"You owe me nothing," she says looking at Mae, "but if you wish to continue with us, I welcome you. There are many useful paths to take."

She sits around the fire, but keeps very quiet. There are times to talk, and then there are times to just stay still, learning. Tonight, new people do not need to know her. Fremea is short, though not as short as the hair one. She really does not know what to make of this 'Dwarf'. She is very happy to have her wings out this long, she has had to hide them too many times. She wears many different clothes each day. Sometimes muted, almost hiding in plain sight and other times, she stands out to make sure you can see her. Somehow she always has her daggers on her, even when you cannot see them on her.

Waking up from the scream, Fremea grabs her bow and regular arrows (as they are the closest) and jump out of the tent into the air, checking quickly to see where the scream comes from. When she sees Pyan laying on the ground, bleeding badly, she has to scan faster to see what attacked him. She will cast fire arrow (highest EL in one phase) and shot the "plant?" creature.

[North of River in Kameran Lands in Forest]
[Time: 8:53 am]
Mournath explains a bit more about himself.
'I fancy myself a chronicler of stories and an explorer of
far-flung locations. I seem to be in your debt for the food,
rescue and information and I'd like to accompany you on whatever
errands you are free to share. I've used this spear I carry on
more counts than to feed my belly, and I've a passing knowledge
of the sea. You've no reason to trust my motivations, but I
put it before you that I simply wish to travel, to experience,
and to chronicle what I may. Will you have me?'
Z'leyra nods and gives a smile but worries that all these new
folks will risk their lives for a quest they don't understand or
care to be with. But there is time to explain this to the others
as they walk.
The group stares at the dead captain. The one called Mournath
stares intently as well. But it is hard to tell his general
opinion of the man.
Fuk kneels down and checks the Captain's body for anything
of value. He finds tucked in his tunic a tattered simple
string that leads down his pants leg to a small bag. A common
thing to hide valuables in such places on the leg. He opens the
tiny bag and pours out 4 jewels all are small. At first
glance they don't seem to be much. He puts them back into
the bag and tosses it to Z'leyra. Fuk then searches the
man more and finds a necklace that has fallen behind his
lacerated shoulder. He whistles and pulls a gold necklace
with a large gem on the end. The gold chain alone should
be worth some money he figures. He hands that rather than
tosses it to Z'leyra.
After that there is nothing else of value. Fuk notices
a man of hard labor from his hands and arms for sure
Z'leyra inspects the necklace to be a turquoise gem. But
she places it for safe keeping for later. They've already
spent too much time here and two hours of the day has already
passed. Since the party now has 3 with no horses she orders
a walking pace. Folks can still ride but at times it may
be dangerous or difficult in heavy forest areas.
Z'leyra waits for Corona as they secure the horses and the
gear to ensure nothing was lost in the river crossing.
[Time: 9:02 am]
Corona returns and confirms that a large brown bear is indeed
further west about 2 miles away. It seems razzled like it has
encountered man before Pyan knows that a man eater becomes
fierce once one human is attacked. They can certainly attack
other humans.
Z'leyra considers a bear hunt but that could take 2-3
hours off the day. She figures Kamerans in the area can
be warned and they can find it.
The temperature remains in the upper 50s as the party
moves north through the forest. Every few hundred yards
the thickness increases. From small trees to thicker trees
standing 30 plus feet high.
At times occasional hallows are found and bypassed. Z'leyra
forms a hunting line but keeps ahead since she also knows her
people often set traps in the lands around here. She may be
one of the best hunters but she needs to keep an active eye out
for patrols and traps.
So while the others ride and walk, Pyan and Fremea take up
a bit of hunting. Pyan rides nearby but not far enough to
lose sight of the party. Fremea with her ability to fly
has the advantage of swiftness and skill. This makes
her a fierce hunter. Arawn who is probably the best
non human hunter (or really overall hunter) around seems aloof
and out of it. As if something is on his mind.
[Time: 9:18 am]
It takes no time before Fremea returns with a rabbit
and a small fox both dead. Enough to feed 2-3 people.
[Time: 11:03 am]
As the forest gets thicker Pyan returns with 2 small
rabbits and some pheasant. Enough to feed 2-3 people as
well.
[Time: 12:06 am]
The party rests for lunch and prepares the animals for
cooking for dinner later. It would take too much time
out of travel time to cook now. So the party eats what
they have in rations and other food items.
This allows the gems to be examined. Z'leyra inspects
first and then shares it with the other jewelers. A
general consensus is formed on them. All four jewels have
minimal flaws. One is dull clarity of Jade worth maybe 4.5
silver. One is fine clarity Jet worth 5 silver. One is
cloudy Jacinth but is worthless. The last is of average
clarity Garnet worth 2 silver.
The gold necklace is nice.. The gold alone is worth 32
gold based on its length and amount of gold. The gem held
in a simple brass gem jacket is torquoise that is flawless
but misted making it less valuable. But the gem is worth
4 silver. So in all the necklace is worth 36 silver.
The party figures the captain was paid in jewels and
probably paid for the necklace in some city or obtained
it in other ways.
Fuk looks at Z'leyra. "So worth something. Do you
take it or do the survivors take it or split up?"
[Time: 5:12 pm]
Due to the canopy of the forest it is even darker than
outside the forest. So the party has little choice but
to find a spot. The twilight makes shadows all over the
place as the party finds a suitable place.
The party is now 10 miles north of the river but still
in the forest.
As some tend to the horses others collect fire wood. While
others setup tents. A few others prepare the animals for
eating and cooking.
[Time: 7:10 pm]
That night after dinner questions are asked about the new
members Mae and Mournath. Everything from history and why
they are here to family things. Things to get to know each
person better.

[Febris 4th, 1635TH]
[Kameran Lands - Forest South of Kameran capital]
[Time: 4:05 am]
At this late night the darkness is over powering as the
night chill which doesn't even get over 50 degrees bites
at the body only abated by the campfire's slight heat. At
this hour Pyan and Kell are on patrol around the camp. Kell
has the slight advantage of seeing better at night being a
half elf. But Pyan has normal vision so is hampered a bit.
Both men are in full armor and have all weapons at hand.
While the others are asleep. Pyan allowed Mae to sleep in
his tent at the disgust of Lucria who offered first. But
the bounty hunter's tent is only 1 person. But that is
why Lucria would offer but this was frowned on by the others.
Kell is walking facing north while Pyan is facing west
making a reverse patrol. Corona is somewhere up in the
trees asleep it is assumed.
But both are unaware that something lurks and slithers in
the darkness. A danger that even spells can't always detect
like Watchful Sleep. The danger slithers and moves as its
host wakes.
The forest seems to quiet but it is too late to notice
the rare quiet. Suddenly 6 slithering vines shoot out toward
Pyan. Two vines miss but 4 make contact. Pyan notices a
green vine strike his head like a hammer doing 6 points of
damage. Another green one hits his right arm doing 16 points
of damage shredding his quilted armor and arm with thorns.
Another green one hits his neck and wraps around it doing 6
points of damage. One Red vine hits his right shoulder doing 2
points of damage. Pyan gives a earth shattering scream and
collapses onto the ground.
In horror Kell can see a red spray of blood erupt from various
parts of Pyan's body and then he collapses screaming but Kell
can't see what has done it. But just as the hunter falls
Kell can glimpse a green and red thing wiggle away. Kell yells
as loud as he can and draws up his spear.
All in the party asleep but Lucria wake up from the scream of
Pyan and Kell's yelling alert.

GM: A short update. I normally do 2 phases of combat. But
since Pyan is critically hurt I stopped it at the initial
ambush phase. At this point ALL are now awake for phase
1 actions except Lucria he is still sleeping.
There are 2 more slots for necklace. For the new folks this
magical language necklace allows one to don it and learn
a language (basically same as a Tongues spell). So if
you need to learn Kameran or another language let me know.
The map is below. For new folks this is the easiest
and fastest format. There is no fast hex map maker
(hexographer is great for world view but not tactical
view). This map usually messes up in email due to
various software stripping tabs and adding spaces. So
best to view this on the website properly. I can make
a non hex map (ie remove hexes from below map) if need be.
There are trees documented but not bushes in order to
retain some ease of reading.
I know why in some tents? I could ask where you wish
to sleep and wait for answers. But this would take days
and so just delay things. For those who don't have a
tent personally you can say who you'd like to sleep with.
Some have only 1 man and some have 2 man tents.
Pyan there is hope. You are critical but I have used
home brew rules to revive the wounded or dead in some
cases if handled quickly you should survive. Kell has
a chance to save you as well. He is not a healer but
he is...is. :) So we'll see what he does. This is
NOT personal. I simple randomized d12 for 2 sentries
twice. You and Kell got selected since no one ever defined
a watch schedule. I then placed tents in random areas
(d6 based on hex size and a dice for distance from campfire).
It just happens that you not Kell was closer to this thing.
So its not personal. :)
For those waking up. I assume no armor is worn in tents.
Weapons at hand. Donning armor will take time. Grabbing
your basic weapon may take a phase and then exiting to
find the trouble another phase. Keep this all in mind.
With Thursday being Turkey day folks will be busy and
out of town probably. So I will not try a update for
Friday. IF I get enough posts by Wednesday afternoon I
can try to do one that night. If not I'll try Saturday
and if run out of time post it Monday. Happy Thanksgiving
