Ha'Kell yells out "Alarm Alarm! Hyenas attacking" trying to wake everyone up, as he charges back to the camp to protect the other horses and fight off the hyenas.

OOC...it seems pretty hard to get enough time to whack on a
creature in order to help get experience.especilly ones that
can swallow a little dwarf whole!
GM: Ack. Yeah it was just lucky damage. I may try to beef
the monsters up. Next encounter below should allow you
to get some experience. Sorry when you join a high level
group you gotta act fast. :<. Also it matters on movement
order. Horses are faster so those on horses moved first
then those on ground.

[Janaq 18th, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
[Noon]
Water sources have been scarce the last few days to find.
Since the river 3 days ago the horses are getting more and
more thirsty. But they can only go three days without
water so today while resting for lunch Arawn casts a spell
to bring some water for them.
First with help from others a small pit is made for only
a few inches . A quick circle of removed ground. Then
using tent stakes and the large tarp, Arawn places the tarp
over the pit to collect the water.
When he is happy he tries to recall what he saw in the dark
lands. In order to create something from nothing must have
something so goes the laws of magic. So he places some of
his water skinned water in a goblet. Then he begins to cast
the magical words.
Nearing completion and casting of the spell he throws
the small amount of water into the air over the tarp.
Then casts the spell at the same time. Suddenly over the
pit a sphere forms that looks transparent. But at closer
look seems to contain something. Peering through the
sphere vision is distorted like seeing people under
water.
Arawn tells the horses and people nearby to be ready.
That when the spell ends it will splash a great deal. Then
30 seconds later the spell ends and the water inside the
10 foot diameter sphere falls downward to the tarp. Much
of it splashes off the tarp but a thousand or so quarts of
water weighs down the tarp.
The horses are led forward to drink their share. Once
they are sated it leaves maybe 100 odd quarts left for
the party to refill water skins.
[Janaq 19th, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
During the day the party does find a large puddle of water
but its only a few sips at best. It did snow 41 minutes
so snow is collected and melted later which does help to
refill more water skins. But it is not that much to
give the horses much to drink.

[Time: 4:37 pm]
As the worm explodes there is a slight delay in shock at
the event. Not sure how such could occur. Maybe it
was a combination of those electrical sparks and the
magical fire with his spongy tissue? Either way it
is a bit messy.
Unali checks her clothes for any pieces of the worm that
may have landed on her from the sudden explosion. The she bows
to Kiet and trots off after her horse to mount again. She
rides back to the group near Kiet and just remarks 'Messy.'
Looking somewhat embarrassed, Kiet says In a high, nasally
voice "Did I do that?"
After the worm explodes, Kiet heads over to Z'leyra to make
sure she is ok. He will do what he can to get the wormy stuff
off her and try not to stare too much. If it's still burning
he will grab what water he can easily reach and poor it on her.
"Z! Are you OK?" Looking concerned, he tries to help where
he can. "I'm really sorry about that! I had no idea that
worms could explode." Kiet will even offer her his cloak to
cover up with until she can either rest up or change back to
eagle form.
"Good shooting guys!...Ugh." Z'leyra comments.
With Kiet's help Z'leyra will scrape off what they can of
what she was splattered with. She will switch to eagle and
back to human form to see if that helps. Once clean she will
repack her gear on the horse, then resume eagle form flying
overhead with Corona.
"Oh, shog! My head. It's a good thing I've got a sturdy
helmet! Stupid horse." Dorhak grouses a bit more. "Why don't
they make smaller versions of these things? Mountain goats!
Now that's the way to travel!"
Lucria after hearing the translation laughs at this and
watches as Kiet cleans the naked shaman and wonders if he could
help.
Ha'Kell just smiles as the giant worm dies. Shaking his
head to clear off the dust and stink of the monster, and
checking for any obvious wounds to his horse. Nothing found,
he rides over to Kiet. "That was you, wasn't it? Blowing it
up from the inside with flames. We can use that again," smiling
at his friend and clapping him on the back.
Ha'Kell walks around the worm to make sure it is fully dead,
and inspecting it since the last one was buried mostly. This
time there is a huge pile of meat just waiting. "Dinner
anyone?" he calls out, grinning again. Wondering if it is
edible and if it tastes good or bad, or it needs some garlic
and wine. Leaving it alone for the scavengers is a better idea.
Kell can see the top portion gone but the hole still shows
a complete part of the body deep inside. More likely only the
top part exposed to air exploded leaving probably 80 or more
feet of the beast underground to decay. Animals will have
a field day for sure feeding.
As to the Eater being eaten the tissue is probably so gummy
and spongy a soup could be made but cooking it might just
evaporate most of its goodness. It could be done but
it would probably not taste as good as a steak.
"We should move on as the carcass will attract scavengers.
Unless anyone has a use for it? Whilst a giant meal of meat
sounds excellent, I don't think this worm is very edible for
us." Ha'kell adds to his previous comments.
Kell helps clean up everyone as best as possible. Once
moving, he asks Kiet, "Did both of your rings work, or just
one? That was impressive. Remind me to buy you a drink or
four next chance we get."
Kell volunteers to range out and to the sides to look for
water and a good campsite for the night, one at least several
miles from the worm carcass.
[Time: 6:15 pm]
A small hail storm starts when the party is making camp.
The hail is collected in Kiet's bucket and some other
mugs/goblets. But when melted its only a few dozen quarts
at most.
[Time: 7:02 pm]
Since it has been another 3 days since it was the last
chance the horses drank fully so Arawn recasts his ball
power spell again to let them drink.
[Time: 7:21 pm]
Kell approaches Kiet after dinner, asking him a question
very quietly. He'll also ask Arawn after hearing Kiet's
answer. This is something those with the party know he has
been working on since the end of the Vong threat, and they can
see the excitement in Kell's face. Perhaps today will be the
day he finally makes the discovery. Those looking closely
notice him fiddling with a small piece of very dark wood,
about the size of a dirk both in length and width, yet
completely raw and unused still.
After chores at camp, Kell offers to teach more spear
throwing for any that want help.
Kell asks Kiet, "Will you go out for a few minutes with
me? Just a hundred feet or so? It's time to cast another
Knowledge spell for Ebony, this may be the time where the
knowledge is complete." as the half-elf is brimming with
excitement, and holding a piece of his ebony wood he brought
to work on.
Kell also asks Arawn to accompany him, "Will you come and
watch as well, in case things go wrong? Or there is another
worm out there?" Arawn senses even more with his high empathy,
knowing how long this has been a near obsession for the trader.
As Kiet walks he realizes the worm is technically a snake
of sorts. His curse with snakes! At least Kell was the main
target not him. Then he slaps the trader's back and
grins cheerfully.
Talking with both, assuming they say yes, "I'm going to
cast a purification and then the knowledge spell. Having
you both with me would make me feel much better."
"I'd be willing to help. What kind of knowledge are you
trying to gain? Do you even know it will be useful?" Kiet
asks as they walk.
"Thank you. The Knowledge is the rites to Enhance Ebony,
and the effect. I started the studying way back in the Dark
Lands, talking with an Elder Wizard before we left. Since
that time, I have been studying in books and using Knowledge
to learn the rites and what it does to Ebony. Whilst I am
hoping this is useful, if nothing else ebony will be one of
my favorite woods to use to craft things. Spears, shields,
and more."
"We can go out 200 feet or so, and there do the castings.
Just in case something goes wrong, I don't want to endanger
everyone."
Kiet looks at Arawn so he keeps the others safe but draws
them out into danger. Kiet shrugs and waits.

[Janaq 22nd, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
[Time: 1:34 am]
The cold night brings a sharp breeze that chills to the
bone. While the others sleep the current sentries are
Z'leyra and Lucria. Z'leyra is checking her medical supplies
at the campfire while Lucria is on patrol.
As Lucria reaches the south end of the camp he feels the
urge. He quietly but loudly explains he needs to relieve
himself. So heads into the darkness in the south. On
the plains there is little trees and not many logs to
sit and use as a seat for such tasks. So one has to crouch
and do your business. That or dig a hole. As he
does this the cold whips between his legs causing him
to shiver.
Suddenly on his rear he feels the odd tingle of something
and realizes it feels like hair or whiskers. He glances
behind him and sees a animal. He yelps and moves forward
tripping over his pants hitting the ground. The animal
walks forward and sniffs him and in the distant campfire
light he can see it is some kind of cat.
Z'leyra hears the noise and picks up her staff and heads
to look. Holding her amber from her satchel she moves
into the darkness. Then sees the half naked Lucria on his
stomach with a small animal. As Z'leyra comes closer he
notices another animal approaching from the north toward
Lucria. As she gets closer she can tell these are cats.
Then within a few feet she recognizes the cats as
tiger cubs. She tells Lucria to be careful. She
glances around where cubs are the mother must be. Then
in the west she spots a female adult tiger moving this
way. She urges Lucria to slowly get to get to his feet
and be slow and careful.
Shaman's know that tigers with cubs might be on the hunt
but would not risk them if out numbered. So chances
are the adult will leave them alone as they leave her cubs
alone. So with Lucria behind him trying to get his pants
up she slowly steps backward into the campfire.
The large tiger inspects where Lucria did his business
and then growls to collect her cubs. She glances at
Z'leyra and the campfire and decides to move on
leaving the camp safe.
Lucria breathes finally, "if I didn't have to go then
I certainly do now!"
[Time: 6:41 am]
Camp is broken up and the day continues to be cold and
dreary with overcast all day. Temperatures do not vary
at all only 42-45 degrees. The day goes on without finding
a single village or water source.
[Time: 9:50 am]
A wind storm blows for about 20 minutes. Dorhak is helped
by others to remain steady on the horse. Some items are blown
off horses and personal items and have to retrieved but the
storm ends quickly.
[Time: 10:09 am]
A light drizzle drops but only lasts 9 minutes which is
barely time to collect any water and its only a enough
for a few sips of water.
[Time: 9:03 pm]
Corona alerts the party to a nearby heard of antelope
in the area. It is dark but Corona reports there are at
least 13 of them moving east to west. They are avoiding
the camp entirely.

[Janaq 23rd, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
[Time: 6:17 am]
Another overcast brings temperatures all day ranging from
a cold 26 to a warmer 77. The party finds no village or
water source the entire day.
[Time: 3:26 pm]
Fog rolls down the plains and the party slows down since
the time of day is odd for fog. They are aware of any
possible danger. The fog lasts a bit over 22 minutes and
is thick with only about 5 feet visibility.
[Time: 4:04 pm]
About 15 minutes later the party discovers why the fog
was around. A large fissure in the ground opened up like
from a earth quake. Cold water from underground sources
now floods the ground around it about 30 feet and the
fissure. On the ground it is only a inch or two. But
the smell of rotten eggs tells the party the water must
be affected by sulfur or other bad things. So it is
not drinkable.
But the fog must've formed some how when the water got
to the surface.

[Janaq 24th, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
[Time: 6:17 am]
Yet a 3rd day of overcast makes seeing the sun a long distance
dream. The temperatures do warm up a bit ranging from 66-78
degrees. Even enough to shed winter clothing. Another day of
no village or water source is found.
[Time: 12:10 pm]
Since it has been days since horses got water in a great
amount, Arawn recasts his ball power spell to collect more
water for the horses.
[Time: 1:36 pm]
The party spots snow in the sky but its so high that half
way to the ground it fades to nothing as the temperature
climbs with going losing altitude.
[Time: 3:53 pm]
As the temperature climbs warm with a north eastern
air mass, a haze forms nearby. The party figures it is
a mix of fog and air particles of some kind. The haze
doesn't last long though as it moves around.

[Janaq 25th, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
[Time: 7:02 am]
Finally overcast is broken and mostly cloudy is the condition
of the day. Finally bits and pieces of sun are seen. The
temperatures today range from 51-58 degrees. Signs do indicate
of a village was in the area but left very recently as they
moved on. But no water source of merit is found.
[Time: 1:08 pm]
A drizzle drops for only 5 minutes and is enough only
for a few sips of water.
[Time: 4:26 pm]
A storm rolls in with enough warning to allow the
party to setup the weather tent for the horses and
wait the storm out. It lasts 35 minutes. At most only
about a half inch of rain is collected with a few dozen
quarts only for water.
[Time: 6:41 pm]
The party still somewhat wet and tired from the storm
makes camp. Just as tents are made a drizzle falls again.
This one only lasts 3 minutes and is only a few sips
collected in various containers.

[Janaq 26th, 1635TH]
[Zen'da Central Plains]
[Time: 1:32 am]
Arawn is at the horses to groom them as they have not been
cleaned since the damp events earlier. Kell is on patrol
around the camp in full gear.
Suddenly Kell hears movement in the darkness. While Arawn
has good night vision the half-elf is so so but a bit better
than humans. He notices movement in the area around them
and hears slight noises sounding like muttered barks.
The noises seem to increase as the muttered barks become
yelps that those who hear them before know what they are
as Hyena half-bark-yelps.
Arawn looks up and hears the noises. He walks over to
grab his shield nearby and sees the shapes all around the
camp moving this way and that.
Kell estimates there at least a half dozen hyena charging
his way. Arawn sees another half dozen or moving from various
directions as one pack toward the camp. But Arawn knows
there might be more they can't see.
Z'leyra and Unali wake up in their tent from the coming
danger from their alert magic.
All at once the Hyenas all bay outloud ready for the
charge as a pack. Those awake hear the sound and it
brings chills down the hairs on arms. They realize
there must be at least a dozen or more out there.
At the noise Fremea, Kell, Fuk and Lucria all wake up.
[Time: 1:33:00 am]
Actions? Comments?
Next Update..Monday??
GM: This combat should be relatively easy. I am off Monday
so will work on next update Monday afternoon. We are
close to the second river at this point. I've
updated the game map online to show it.

These two are in need of food so who wants to
lend food/rations? I asked this last time but
no one spoke up.
Unali is running low maybe 2-3 days on her personal
supply so she'll need to be loaned food.
Z and Kell are flush with food. Everyone else
has enough for a bit longer.
Horse Food

So Pyan will need to be loaned grain.
For all others got maybe 1-3 days for all
others. Arawn want to teleport and get some
more grain bags? Let me know. If so how much
bags from your pre-stored storage?
Water is no issue at this point.
GM: Antelope - Did anyone want to kill one for food?
GM: Arawn - Ball Power scene done ok or need to flair it up?
Did you want to do a tempest spell to clean worm bits
off folks/horses? If so remind me day 21.
I've not listed the other castings of tempest yet.
Kell - Purify/Know Max? I assume the spell subject
but if different let me know. Remind me the day
so I can track the mana in sheet. Based on last
email I know for sure the spell subject. So I'll
process this and give you results for next update.
I sitll need to do some chores here. Plus I need
to find my ebony document I typed up. hmmmm
Kiet -Not sure rings have a visual cue. But if want
to say have it glow red that's fine. So you'd know
if one failed? Optional. I should start adding
'effects' like this to item creation like add X mana
to make visual cues and such. Hmmm. Next adventure.

When I have time and light allows (camp light) will show full
locations of all hyenas later. This is a rough quick
map that is like the yellow dog map (so I cheated).
