[Recap]
From Ix: [Re: Food]
When Ix is offered to join the Dwarves, she hesitates....
----------
If Ix is offered ale by the dwarves, she will accept at least
one mug since she feels it might be disrespectful to decline it.
GM: Ack. Saw this post on Archives and when I got bounces from
email this was a clue. I get bounces for Pyan's as well.
Issue is that yahoo, gmail and hotmail tend to have very
strict policies on spam. So as a result they tend to
cram email headers with 'spam' even though it may not be spam.
This causes some folks NOT to get the emails since those ISPs
like mine block it. There isn't much one can do aside from using
a ISP standard email not a public generic one. :< But just
a minor issue. These missing posts that go to list but not
in my personal email are not your problem. I've had it
for years. Its just how certain ISPs handle spam.
From Raddok: [Re: Actions]
OOC: I am probably sending too much, but want to offer
plenty for our GM to choose from - lol
Game #8 - Update #16
Raddok is busy helping Arawn, but notices a dwarf....
...does hear "Ba'ru," but since
GM: Ack. Your doing fine. I mean one can't do much if you send
like actions for 2 months from now. Well you CAN but I will
forget it :). So yeah should remain in the general scope of
the updates. Why I use time stamps.
From Mae: [Re: Actions]
Maelorna sighs, so far there seemed to be little to...
GM: Ack.
From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
To the newer players, sorry if it seems like Arawn has
been ignoring you. Normally I tend to RP quite a bit with new
players but the last few (and next few) weeks have been hectic
and I've found it difficult to sit still long enough to read
and reply to emails. But things should clear up by May:)
Arawn shrugged. The look on his face indicated that he...
"What can you tell me of those who died - their names?...
Sailors that were healed:
What happened to them?
Raddok:
[OOC: Regarding if Arawn knows the rest of the party and Raddok
soffer to help the dwarves]
---
"I know them. As to whether this will turn into a ...
Ix:
Arawn recognized both shaman and wolf, studying them,...
GM: Ack. Yeah next few updates will be slower as party prepares
as a gist of a mission is forming. Though not everyone
has sat down to share information. Those who were healed
were quickly rushed off ship by guards to be taken along with
the dead for further investigation or deporting or such.
Would have a few minutes with them but generally their welfare is
priority by the guards until Vox comes.

[New Stuff]
[Marqi Frisda 23rd, 1636TH; Sivas, Marentia]
[Time: 11:10 am]
The elder dwarf gestures and speaks to Ix about food
and ale. The dwarves look at each other wondering how
the girl can see with those milk eyes. The elder turns
to Raddok to translate his wishes.
When Ix is offered to join the Dwarves, she hesitates for a
moment before carefully making her way towards them. She will
sit and lay her cane across her lap. It takes her a bit to
take some of the offered food but she does join them in the
meal. She thanks the soldiers who brought the food and the
dwarves for sharing. She chooses mainly the fruits and
vegetables, but she does eat some meat, and occasionally she
will throw some meat over to the thankfully patiently waiting
wolf. Other than the initial thanks, she stays silent until
spoken to.
Ix sits near, but not too close, to the dwarves due to
the smell. But she has been with the wolf and he has been very
stinky so she doesn't mind.
A dwarf with a scar on his hand offers a mug of ale to
Ix. With a bit of hesitation she grabs it and drinks. She
immediately coughs. The dwarves all grin and laugh. A
human who can't drink. But soon she drinks it and wipes
her mouth with no issue. The Dwarves grunt in satisifaction.
They might not be close allies but being both prisoners the
human girl and dwarves have a connection..
Raddok is busy helping Arawn, but notices a dwarf in armor
talking with the released captives, who seems to be getting
their story. He can only hear scattered words, though. He does
hear "Ba'ru," but since he was only passing through that city
himself, he isn't familiar with anything about it, other than
general city information. He overhears "Our families!" & the
worry in the upraised voices, though, and wonders what had
happened to them all - those here & those left behind. He's
feeling a growing urge to find out what's happening & to see
how he can help.
He feels guilty about how he got duped into the situation,
but then wonders if the gods might be offering another
opportunity to him through this strange situation.
He looks at the elf he is working beside and says quietly,
"Are those folks over there your friends? If they are here
because of the dwarves, tell them I want to help. If this all
is leading somewhere, let me come with whoever is going to try
to fix this - situation", then adds "- if it's not a military
matter."
"I have to try to help them. I was called Dwarf Friend by
those living near where I came from, and I cannot turn my back
on what caused these folks' trouble, without dishonoring that."
Then he blushed at his sentiment & fell silent.
"I do seem to now be unemployed, so am free to lend my arms -
if I can get my gear back soon. I have a mace & shield, and a
great sword, as well as experience with mining and teamsters -
and this does seem to involve a mine somewhere."
Arawn and Z'leyra watch the wounded and dead taken away.
They know they didn't save many but saved a few. At least some
escaped into the water and now are walking away with the guards.
Arawn looks to Fremea and frowns slightly knowing that she
acted fast and did this as he looks at the blood on the deck.
But she is standing there content and quiet. Then he glances
at Mae the ex-slave who probably feels the same as she did
but has hunger pains than dreams of justice. But Fremea hates
slavery more so than Mae and Arawn knows she acted from that
instinct to free the prisoners.
Kiet watches Mournath and is dying to know the facts of
where he has been and how he got here.
Maelorna sighs, so far there seemed to be little to do, other
than patching up the wounded. She shrugs her crossbow into a
more comfortable position on her back and then regards the
dwarf. 'How things that ugly can mate is beyond me,' she thinks
with a wry chuckle. She regards the one with the wolf and after
feeling no reason to consider it a competitor for her food she
stops. 'By the Court, why am I now looking at everyone as a
predator or prey. Other than the disgusting one, these are the
one's I gave my word to,' she sighs as the voice laughs
maniacally, "and then you broke your word didn't you," it
teases.
Raddok asked what was worth killing the innocents.
Arawn shrugged. The look on his face indicated that he was
less than pleased with the carnage, the loss of potentially
innocent lives and information, and the less than subtle method
used. But the next moment his features softened as he returned
his focus back to the wounded.
"What can you tell me of those who died - their names? home?
and family that might be left behind... parents... wives...
children? I would like to see that they're taken care of now,
especially if they may be left destitute, orphaned or enslaved
themselves now that they may no longer have a guardian or bread-
winner to take care of them."
Raddok knows some of the sailor names and rattles a few
of them off. But the guards their names and origin is not
known. Ht does know the sailors were hired short term from
Ba'ru.
Raddok offers helping the dwarves.
"I know them. As to whether this will turn into a military
matter, only time will tell. Though seeing how things are
developing I wouldn't be surprised if it moves in that
direction. And I apologize for not proving to be more congenial
but I find this situation perturbing and completely unnecessary.
So I find myself surveying and ruminating over things at the
moment. As to getting your gear back, I imagine that might not
be difficult. These guard seem unnaturally lax in their
manner. In fact I find their efforts to oversee this situation
sorely lacking from an investigative and law enforcement
standpoint. If this is how well the city chooses to execute
their guard duty then Marentia is in serious trouble," he
continued with a very scrutinous eye.
He gave Raddok a smile, though his face seemed subtly tired,
perhaps from exasperation more than physical exhaustion.
"If things prove to go in the direction of trying to 'fix'
this situation then I'm sure your skills will come in handy.
In fact you may find something in common with Kiet as he's a
skilled teamster as well."
Arawn watches as the girl with wolf he saw back in
Ba'ru sits and eats near the dwarves.
Arawn recognized both shaman and wolf, studying them, in
particular the seemingly blind woman. She seemed to move with
apparent ease, even considering the use of her cane, and he
wondered if her clouded gaze was more cosmetic than actual.
Sensing that the guards were not going to stop him from
wandering the bowels of the vessel Arawn contemplated heading
below deck to discover what he could. He could likely pry
answers to the mystery before the gathered but wondered if he
should instead wait. And so he did... for now.
[Second Deck]
Vox looks at the parchments and documents on the captain's
desk as he hears Unali explain. He briefly only glances at
Captain Damon.
Unali nods towards Damon. "Let me introduce Captain Damon,
he has been with us in Clima, so he is good." She makes no
attempt to introduce Vox to Damon.
Unali explains Vox is a friend of the Duke's and together
they have worked as a team. Damon nods. He may not know the
intrigue and secret work but he knows Unali is a sly gal.
So he doesn't pursue the subject. But Damon can assume fast
that this is Aren's local intelligence chief if such a person
exists. Damon nods at Vox who just shrugs. Damon realizes the
man is a bit rude or just busy.
She goes on to briefly explain current events. "The group I
was travelling with met a dwarf, Dorhak, and he traveled with
us to Sivas to recuperate. Now, he was mugged in the streets
and ." She continues on as Damon searches the room and then
finishes up. " found only these burned papers, which suggest
that Vahear is involved. So many dwarves taken as slaves and a
Fomorian connection does not bode well. I felt this needed
direct attention and if possible I would like to contain the
information, as not to leak the Vahear connection."
Vox rubs his chin and begins to pace back and forth. "Slavery
is one of Maron's big peeves. First this Climan thing which you
helped to squash and then the L'p'nth crisis. Which I believe
you helped out as well. The Fomorians have always wanted a base
here in the Sea of Tears. For decades they've been dealt with
and no stronghold is left. It is just too far for them to supply
any force they have here.' He stops and stares at the papers.
"I can't read Fomorian. I can recommend a person who may who
we've...had cooperation with. I know he speaks it and reads it.
He actually runs a large wagon building business and sells
many on the street."
He stops and turns to Damon. "Would you mind leaving us
Captain?"
Damon looks up from the chest of clothing. "Oh? Sure Foxy."
He closes the chest but Unali can tell from her side vision that
the Captain slipped something in his chest vest pocket as he turned
around. Vox never looked but she noticed it. Damon moves toward
the door.
"That's Vox." Vox growls.
"Tuttles!" Damon leaves and closes the door.
Vox continues, "Maros...King Maros can't have another issue
like this. I suspect the crowds outside will spread news. We'll
need to come up with a cover story. Something like you helped
the crew against another crew...no..from itself. I saw those
arrows. The red head and the quiet one in leathers didn't seem
to be the one. The one in the dress...with the bow on her back...
not much of a cover there...I suspect this is Fremea?" Unali
nods. "I've been read in on her. So we'll say the crew attacked
itself from the basket thing up there." He points to the sky and
probably the crow's nest. Those on street probably didn't see
it. Then you came to help and stopped it. We'll need to move
the ship...I'll ask Damon if he can move it to a more...secure
quiet berth. But I am....reluctant for the ship to remain here.
If there is a plot here we need to find out. Take the ship
with you. But I would prefer you be gone in a day or two at
most. Can these dwarves be trusted?"
"I would hazard a guess that the dwarf Dorhak can be invited
to investigate the reason his fellow dwarves where taken. The
group would likely join him and that way there is no state
involvement." Unali replies as she rubs her head.
Unali waves a hand at the desk. "There is some writing left
on these papers, but not something I learned to read. Fomorian
maybe? Is there a trusted scholar you know, or we can take it
to the library to an old friend."
Vox nods, "I'll write down the merchant's name. Get Kell
to help find him." Unali sighs Vox doesn't know he is dead.
He writes things then grabs another blank ;parchments then signs
it with a large note. "This will give some clearance. You may
obtain supplies as needed. Can obtain supplies as needed. The
county will waive the expenses later and refund it. Just take
tabs of what you get. So the boring coin counters can see
every expense." He then hands both documents to Unali.
Unali recalls other things, "When I first arrived, there were
some sailors swimming away. I am not sure if all have been
captured. Maybe the group members on deck know and we should
get their information before we decide the best way to follow
up."
Vox rubs his head like a headache. "We'll have to ...question
them delicately. The less people who know of this ...fiasco
the better. If they are not from here we'll need to deport them
quickly for that purpose. I trust you on how to handle this
and deal with that Tilo guy outside. en can help coordinate
if needed.
Vox looks at the burn pieces. "Believe it or not there is
a person that could probably help with those. He is a bit
crazy...but he helped to invest a process for it. He refuses
to explain how. Unless your wizard friends know of a way
to do the same. I could give you his info. Just go yourself
and maybe one other person. Be ...prepared for some hermit
style antics. By the way aren't you normally in Maren City?
Never mind. I don't need to know."
He bends down and writes one more notes one of the crazy
person's name and location. Then an address. "Second address
is a cobbler shop. Below in basement is my office. I move
from month to month. Our work...as you can guess doess't do
well if we stay in one place. If you need me visit. If
you send a messenger address it to Vohl the shop owner and
add a note like Traveler's Society. He'll pass it along."
Vox moves toward the door, "take a...hmm..a dead animal
like a bird or such to this...hermit. Don't ask me why.
He likes dead things. Just make it a clean kill. I suspect
he plays with them or stuffs them. " He reaches for the
door. "I have a appointment with a L'p'nth defector..the
3rd this month. Good luck Unali."
Vox heads to the top deck and looks around. He finds
Damon and Dorhak standing to the side. Dorhak is inspecting
the ship's lockers for treasure. "Captain. I need you
to move this to a more secure berth that isn't...so visible."
He waves a hand to the docks.
Damon nods, "I can do that. A private dock is to the east
a mile or two. I'll have to get my secondary crew to join
to get it done. Unless....my friends can crews a ship."
Vox frowns, "your crew? They can be..."
"Discreet? Yes." Damon nods.
"Fine the ship is yours." Vox heads to the docks.
Dorhak's eyes widen hearing this did he say his ship
or Damon's? Human can be so confusing on their use of words.
Damon raises a hand, "ours?"
"Yes...." Vox heads to greet the guards and informs them
of what is going on. "Sarge Tilo. Where are the sailors?"
"I sent them to the garrison t be treaded and questions."
Tilo replies as he crosses his arms.
"Send word they aren't to be questioned yet. Unali and
the others may do so." Vox mounts his horse.
"This is highly irregular." Tilo protests.
"I heard the Count needs men to clean the western shorts
of storm debris and ensure less beach erosion. I could
put in a good word if you prefer that duty?"
"No...sir." Tilo frowns.
Vox rides off to his appointment.
Damon looks to the party to see who might be in charge.
Arawn is below deck now. The acrobat? Nah. He shrugs and
walks toward Dorhak. "I need to go collect my crew. See
if we can move the ship. Looks like we are clear to leave.
You may want to get those...others a bath at a bathhouse?
If the sailors are from Ba'ru I can assume the dwarves
are as well? If so I can ship the sailors that are alive
and the dwarves back. I'm sure you guys will be on a fine
mission somewhere to Vahear or such. But I do have business
to run and 2 ships. " He leans in and whispers. "That
blind girl? She was ignored by the guards. Maybe we could
find her a group home or some help? Hopefully she won't
stumble and fall over. Whoever she is but looks like she
may need help." He raises his voice. "I'll return in maybe
30-45 minutes with my crew and we'll move the ship. I'll
give info were we'll move her but that Dox...Lox or whatever
his name was wants us it moved. After that we'll depart and
you can have the ship."
Dorhak stands back and can't help to smile. But what
is this Vahear city place? He quickly forms ideas on
how to sell the ship. Would it be all his or the group's?
The hold would need serious cleaning to get rid of that
smell. Maybe it could be burnt and start over? No smoke
on a ship is not good. He day dreams.
Damon leaves the ship and heads east down the board
walk to one of his ships.
[Second deck]
Unali notices a basket of fruit on desk and she empties it.
IT has a small cushion. She figures she could place the
ashes on top and maybe a tunic from the chest to cover it
it from blowing in the wind if she has to transport this to
the crazy man's house. For now she leaves the ashes.
For now she needs to see what is going on top deck. At the
very least the dead captain needs to be removed if the guards
are still around.
Unali notices Arawn checking the empty berths and briefly
explains the captain is dead. Then curious she moves on to
the hold. To check the body left bound to question. She
frowns when she finds the body indeed dead. Who killed the
officer? Could it be the dwarves? She exits the smelly
hold and heads topside. Time to get the bodies below removed
if the guards are still around.
Unali does find the guards still around and preparing to
depart. She yells to Sarge Tilo and eaves him aboard. She
reminds him about the 4 other bodies in hold and the captain's
quarters. "Oh right. We forgot those. I'll go fetch a wagon."
[Time: 11:22 am]
Actions? Comments?
Next Update....Saturday/
GM: A good place to stop. At this point clues are around but
not coordinated. Dorhak knows of Dwarves origins. Unali
knows of what is papers and what Vox said. No one knows
but Fremea saw Ix in action or why she is here. Mournath
is around as well. Time to coordinate stories. Two small
side missions if they are taken to visit crazy man for
possible ash extraction of data and the merchant who knows
Fomorian writing unless party member can do one or both of
these? After that some form of mission will need to be
determined. But ship needs to be moved about 2 miles east
of current location to a more quiet area of docks. There
should be plenty of time to gather supplies and such. For
next update depending on who does what I will jump the
time line up to 3-4 hours in future. The dead/wounded
will be taken away. This also can be changed by actions
coordinated. Damon won't be with party after he moves
ships so he can transport dwarves and sailors who lived
back home if they desire.
GM: I use time stamps to coordinate events. Allows me to go
back in time for retro/old actions as well as to figure
out more modern ones. Arawn does at times post his actions
with time stamps which does help. They are not required
but if the next update will be 3-4 hours in future one
can assume different time periods. So it will help but
only optional.
