[New Stuff]
[Ma 3rd, 1636TH]
[Time: 1:20 pm South-East of Ma'Dor]
Fremea had been studying the annoying
human, looking for signs of training in any
combat form. His stance, or maybe if he twitched his hands looking for
something to grasp for fighting. Since she had
arrived late to the party, she only caught the
last couple of riddles, coin was easy, but it seemed to her
that the last thing was more of a personal
preference than a riddle. Dwarves make no sense
to her. Oh well, at least it seemed that Dorhak said the right
thing, since all of the magic just winked out,
except for the party. Interesting.
But her study of Velf was sufficient
to figure he would probably flinch if a bee
attacked him. He reminds her of Kaylle, who was
more a wielder of ink quills than swords. She
frowns remembering Kaylle the last time she spent
with him. That quiet secluded dinner over a
month ago. She smiles to herself as she
remembers the sun coming up as the Fae told of stories.
Then the annoying human took off, and
was he quick. She attempted to fly after him, but
others kept getting in the way, preventing her from catching him
before getting to the cave. She got stopped up by
the extra darkness, though it was much larger in
here and she could really pour it on to catch him. This
human was not going to stop and she was determined to make sure he did.
Fremea gives chase and pulls out her
bow to make sure he does not reach something that is not his to take.
Somewhat surprised at how quick the
fellow was to run ahead Z'leyra follows more
slowly. She doesn't want to be caught by some
Dwarven trap that might clothesline taller races or something similar.
Arawn pursed his lips as Velf proved
so nimble as to evade the light-footed (and
winged!) members of the party. Pushing ahead he
made his way into the large chamber, searching
the ground for the man's tracks as he called out,
"Velf! Where are you?! Slow down! It could be trapped up ahead!"
The others follow Dorhak but as with
him once at the threshold of the large cavern
folks stop to gawk at the
dwarf-suits-of-armor. Most dwarves do not wear
such heavy armor and most who do are kings are
elite warriors. But there are so many suits here
it could have come from dozens of warrens.
This caused a initial delay in
pursuit and then a blockade at the threshold for
others to pass through. But as Velf seems to
skip ahead some wonder if its magical like boots
Kiet and Z'leyra wear. Then it could be just a
greedy scholar has a boost of energy that overwhelms others.
Velf yells back, after years!? No! I must see it!
This echos against the walls. Fremea
flies toward Velf and draws her bow as the
scholar almost makes it to the rock
formation. Then he seems to disappear around it
blocked by the wall. From this side the rock
protrusion is in center between the two walls and
about 20 feet in front of the rear wall. But
Velf made the 80 foot sprint faster than a cheetah it seems.
Fremea quickly gets to the rock area
and rounds the corner of it to see Velf leaning
over reading something. From the side the
formation is like a altar. From the left there
are two small natural steps about 3 feet
high. The steps are maybe 2 feet wide. Once you
step up there is a flat dais about 5 feet in
diameter. In the center of this is a pedestal of
rock as the entire formation is rock. The
podium almost like a lectern from a Ticasi class
room is about 5 feet tall with a thin
stem-base. It holds a flat surface fully
horizontal about 3 feet by 3 feet square. On top
is a single tome. Velf has climbed the steps now
and is staring at something on the surface
Fremea can't read from this angle. The tome is
closed and a blue color with a brown like open ending circle on it's cover.
In front of the podium is the large
rock column that towers about 12 feet high which
blocks view from party from the threshold.
Arawn watch Fremea raise her bow but stops as she studies the area.
Fremea can detect magic from the
altar area as a whole and a great amount from the
book. But those blocked can't sense this magic yet.
Fremea wonders if she fired a Elf
Shot arrow if it could trigger any magic
there? But her curiosity is also perked up.
It was a brief flash but as Velf
stepped up Fremea noticed a glimmer of white
flash from the altar area. But it seemed not to be noticed by Velf.
The others are now about 15 feet from
the Altar when a booming voice is
heard. Guardianship is a privilege. Who claims?
Raddok translates but before he finishes Velf speaks up. I do!
Wait did Velf understand the
words? But Raddok notice that Pyan's face seems
to understand the words. Could the voice have spoken in each native tongues?
Velf reaches for the book and Fremea
fires at Velf. But as the arrow hits within a
foot a static charge bursts and the arrow bounces
off and drops to the ground.
Velf doesn't even flinch so entranced
by the book. He opens it and flips it open for a
small cloud of dust. He frowns but then looks
above the book. Fremea tries to strain to see
and hovers a bit higher to see runes on the
podium. Lymrian? Or Korchu? Velf mumbles.
Actions? Comments?
Next Update...Thur/Sat/Mon?
GM: First a quick explanation of magic
and 'seeing'. In my world mana is a aura and
everything has mana from grass to rocks. The
brighter color of the aura the stronger the
force. Fae have learned to tune out 'normal'
stuff like clothing, rocks or grass. Now this
aura can be blocked by obstacles. For the
torches for example if one assumes they are
magical then the ward must be in the base of the
top where fuel is normally placed. If looking
down you'd see the aura but from below would
not. So this is why Fae can't tell if torches
are magical. Same with clothing a tunic can
block an amulet. Finally magic like mana shields
or such can delude or block aura as well. So
with enough power a magical ring in plain sight
could be taken as normal. Hope this helps. As
to Velf getting dramatic to altar first I gave
reasons above. Most would stop to study the area
a few critical seconds for safety or such. Now
as to next update will be unsure. I am on
vacation Mon/Thur (normal day off tue/wed) until
next year. So tons of 4 day weekends. But this
week will be hectic as I do work Friday and got
stuff to do next 3 days. So it could be
Thur/Fri/Sat or Monday. :) Sorry can't pinpoint it down.
