[Recap]
From Kiet: [Re: comments]
I have to say, that was one of the best updates ever. I
found myself reading it twice because it was so interesting.
I'll probably go thru it again. I'm not quite sure what it is
that made it special, but it was.
So...great job, Scott!
GM: Ack. Wow. Really? In fact to me it was one of the worst.
I was coming down from a bad weekend/day. I was tired as
usually on weekends (on Sat/Sun I wake up early to go to
work so less sleep compared to weekdays - my actual "weekend"
for my days off are Tue/Wed). Anyways because of the bad day
and tired I was making silly mistakes. In fact when Alex did
proof reading he found more than the usual typos. Oddly enough
even Word didn't find the mistakes why Word 97 figures the
word "hteir" is real I have no clue. So its 3am and got tons
to repair mistake wise. So didn't want to spend another 25
min up so went to bed then finished Tuesday afternoon. Why
it was delayed. So in terms of stupid typos it was a bad update.
Since Ryan is my best friend for eons I know him well and
we did the entire IBT in a hour or so. I did the combats and
such quickly. The problem with IBT updates is a mix of the
combats and real actions. Like with the warlord battle
that alone could be one full update so just summed it up
into a few lines. When you do that with 45 days then it all
adds up. Like Fremea's IBT is over 800 lines so one has
to trim down the fat for reading and time. :) But what
I am saying is I appreciate the comments. It does make me
feel better especially after that weekend.

[New Stuff]
[Augado 11th - Sepes 24th, 1634TH]
[Location: Marentia (Maren)]
[Aug 11]
Chion returns from Katai with everyone in tow. He used to
be a sailor enjoying the high seas. Now it seems like he is
only used for transportation. But now that he is back
to his land he can think and reconsider his life plan.
That night he enjoys the party since everyone is alive except
for Zhou. But if he was in time to place the Preservation Stone
on his head and activate it back in the forest maybe just maybe
he can be saved. But it is best not to get hopes up. Cetric
told him that since resurrection is not always a given. To give
hope to others can do more damage than doing nothing. So he
waits and hopes he can resurrect Zhou tomorrow. He could not do
a proper ceremony to recall his soul but the Stone does have a
tiny bit of power to do so After Cetric resurrected Caladan
the sailor-wizard found it fascinating. He knew of the
power of such spells. But never up close or seen it. It may
have changed his life. This is when he apprenticed under
Cetric to become a Shaman as well. Just months ago before the
events in the Vassa forest and flying island. He was taught
the sacred spell and to save Zhou would be his first attempt.
In thinking this over the large Shaman drinks many ales down.
To know what is at stake makes his head spin so he might as well
make it spin with a nice liquid.
[Aug 12]
The next day Chion wakes up ready for a day of teleports.
Thanks to Cetric again he learned a quick way to remove the
effects of a hangover. It would be good to do so to prevent
a teleport a 1000 miles up rather than north.
Chion then teleports the group to the Zen'da plains to his
preset Teleport Circle. While some like Caladan visit the
tribe, Chion spends some time to whisper with Cetric on the
final tricks to save Zhou. Chion will do it in the Dark Lands
so not to arise suspicion here.
Chion then teleports folks to the Vassa forest. Ben'dar
and Strie'bog leave on their own. Chion finds Miklav the
Forestal to get access to the Faerry Hill. Just days ago he
was here to drop of Ta'lil's body for burial. But Chion was
asked to find more info for Fremea on the girl. So he asks
the questions and will be back to get the answers if possible.
Chion then teleports the group to the Dark Lands. As others
go about their own tasks Chion informs Oby Wan of the option
to save Zhou. Oby Wan agrees because there is no known death
rite or restriction Zhou may have. Oby Wan sends a wizard to
help perform the tasks but then gives this advice. "Not
everyone should be resurrected. To snatch a soul from a god
or bring them back may do more harm. Ki'ama tells me that
such spells do get the attention of gods since they are not
used that often. Just like your massive teleports. Ki'ama
figures the Gnarish staff may protect you against Avatars
and other dangers they may send at you."
Chion knows this well. One night Farseeker told of a time
in Porta where a Wizard used Time Travel and Time Stop spells
almost every day. It created a rift in time and space and
the gods had to act on this. A Avatar in the form of a powerful
fanatic came to kill the Wizard but instead placed him forever
in frozen time. Xian tried to free him but the spell was too
powerful. To this day the Rift still stands near the Temple
they had fought at.
That night Chion prepares the area and materials to resurrect
Zhou. the ceremony and spells are cast. Just before midnight
the first sign of life comes back to him.
[Aug 13]
Chion returns to the group and prepares to surprise the party
with Zhou's return. It works but Oby Wan does admit to Chion
that his right hand flexes now for some reason like a tick. But
to save the hero who saved the girl was worth it.
Chion then returns to Sivas via the other places and waits
and rests.
Yesterday and today Chion decides to improve his Bird language.
Ever since Strie'bog started talking to Birds it makes sense
as a Shaman to do so. So he will find some place and try to
chat with song birds. Normally this would not be a easy thing.
Most birds are mindless but some smart ones like Eagles or
Owls do like to talk about. That is if you find finding rat
nests and the best worm places interesting. Chion sits and
talks to a Owl who is depressed since his mate left him. Who
would have thought a year ago he'd be talking to birds? Then
he'd be happy to just sit on a deck and fish. But Cetric tells
him that nature has its rewards. If one can work with nature
to tame and commune with it then you can get ahead. Chion
won't admit it to Cetric but the old man makes sense.
[Aug 14]
Back in Sivas Chion spends time to talk to Corona who visits
him at his own home. The bird is highly intelligent and he
wonders what Ben'dar learned about Varo that would give
a clue to the origin of Corona. Maybe some day the party
will learn.
[Aug 15-17]
Chion decides to spend time at Cholan's Tavern and gets to
know Malic. Both know his native Cerulean so Chion decides
to practice is by speaking it and Malic helping out. Mainly
the profanity, dirty jokes and the 10 best Cerulean pick up
lines for sailors in port.
[Aug 18]
Chion teleports back up north to pick up everyone and return
them back to Sivas after their various things in the Dark Lands.
When Chion gets to Sivas with Kell the trader asks for a lift
to Ba'ru. But Chion warns him that he has never been there so
a cold port might be dangerous. Ba'ru stops him and explains
a spot that might work. A open area on the roof of a large
warehouse. Unless there are birds there it should be safe to
jump to. After a good 10 minutes getting the details form Kell
the wizard sends both to Ba'ru.
Chion then teleports to Caladan's forest land outside of
the capital of Maren. For the next three days he finds a
hawk and improves his own specific Hawk language.
[Aug 19]
Chion and Caladan are walking in the forest near his cabin
when they find a camp of 8 people. The people are clearly
poor. They almost look like a band of gypsies. Caladan
asks them to leave his land but they refuse. They claim the
forest is there to feed them. Chion nods to Caladan and quietly
enters the center of the camp. He then teleports the entire
party of 8 away from the forest. In the middle of the Zen'da
plains in the central tribes. He tells them that one should
learn to ask the owners of a land before staying there. So
they should find the local tribe and see how hospitable they
are. He returns with their items so not to be uncivilized.
Then tells him the nearest tribe is about 10 miles or so. He
is guessing but this is actually Ben'dar's home region. Cetric
and Caladan's tribe is probably 100 miles east of here. At
least there are no women or children so they should be able to
survive. He hopes then returns back to the forest
[Aug 19-20]
While at Caladan's place, Chion helps those royal agents
on how to be stealthy. Of course this makes them laugh
as a large man like him gives them tips. But his training
in the sai has helped him obtain skills that most do not
know of. When Caladan's place is stormed Chion watches
in amusement as Caladan uses his animals friends to thwart
their chances. Then the leader places a wager that Chion
could not attack him inside the cabin without teleporting.
Chion takes him up on that offer. As Caladan and the
agent sit at the fire Chion simply calls for a hawk. He
offers some nice food for a favor. Chion then casts a
simple wind spell to open the door. From the nearby trees
he sends the hawk inside to attack the agent. When the man
tries to fight back Caladan prevents him. but the man did
only to attack him not that Chion HAD to be the one Chion
shows the agents that an assassin does not need to be present
to kill. The Hawk could have been laced with poison on his
talons and the man would be dead. A simple lesson that
the team from Maren takes to heart.
Meanwhile Chion asks Caladan on tips on Forester techniques
and how to improve his own skill.
[Aug 23]
While out riding a horse on the plains Chion comes across
a wounded deer with a bad leg. He considers his options.
he could kill it for meat and take it back to the tribe.
He could take it to the tribe to heal but they might kill
it for meat. So he decides to teleport to the tribe and
ensure no one kills it. He asks Cetric and Gib'borah of
this and this is when Cetric decides that maybe it is time
for Chion to choose his Tonah animal. Cetric and Chion
patch up the animal and let it heal for a couple of days
before sending it back to its original spot.
[Aug 21-23]
Chion thanks the Hawk for the fun and gives him some
hints on how to track down prey using the sun as a shield
for the rabbits. A common trick humans know but animals
do not understand to use the sun at a person's back when
attacking. During these days he practices his Hawk Language.
[Aug 24]
Chion decides to spend the rest of his time on the plains.
To learn more from Cetric and the tribe. Who would have
thought the man who likes nice beds would want to sleep
on a dirty blanket in a tipi. Chion reflects that maybe
this is better for his soul as well.
Starting today Chion sends the next five days practicing
his Armor spell. Each day he casts it 5 times. For the
25 attempts he fails only 3 times.
[Aug 24 - 26]
Chion is given lessons on the use of his bow from the
tribe's best archer, Caladan's elder brother.
[Aug 26 - 28]
Chion spends these days practicing his own Crossbow. No
one in the tribe uses it so he shows the warriors the
merits of the crossbow. But they complain that it simply
takes too long to reload. Doing that on horseback could
make a person die much sooner.
[Aug 29 - 31]
Chion spends these days learning tracking from Cetric. How
to use the plans and even the wind to track animals. Chion
is appreciative as he learns a great deal. Especially when
one steps in a dung pile that should not yelp to make the
deer flee before you can shoot at them.
Over the next 5 days Chion practices his healing spells on
those who hurt themselves and animals. He casts it 25 times
for the next 5 days doing 5 per day. He only fails 3 times
and shows the tribe the merits of healing magic.
[Sepes 1 - 3]
Chion practices using his sai and teaches the tribe some
tricks with it. One warrior does know how to use the dagger
and both spar giving each other good practice.
[Sepes 3]
Chion is walking in the area south of the tribe when he spots
a nice plant of note. HE goes to inspect it for cultivation but
then is suddenly attacked by a wild boar. Boars are quite deadly
when they want to be. Chion is thrown on his back as the boar
begins to attack with tusks. Chion only has a second to reach
for his sai and start stabbing as quickly as possible. It takes
12 good stabs before the board even begins to back off. Then
two more and the boar finally dies. By then Chion has taken
10 points of damage himself. Bleeding, bruises and exhausted
Chion notices the boar has a piglet. The piglet is harmless
but now will be quite tasty for morning meal. He returns
with damaged clothes to let the warriors go get the boar and
chase down the piglet. After all the piglet could be grown
for better food or eaten now.
[Sepes 4 - 9]
During these days Cetric teaches Chion more healing and herbalist
skills. Though Chion has learned enough to be a master in those
areas he can always learn more tricks.
For the next 5 days Chion practices his regeneration spell
upon some animals and tribal members. He only casts it once
a day for a total of 5 times. All three succeed and he
repairs scars and other injured body parts. Including for
one boy who lost use of his left hand due to a snake poison
he is now able to use the hand.
[Sepes 7]
Caladan's tribe does not see many visitors outside of nearby
villagers. Once every 3 months there is a couple caravans that
have permission to enter the plains to trade their wares. But
today the village is visited by 6 warriors from the central
tribes. They come with news that the Ga'sha to Ben'dar's
tribe has died. They heard that Ben'dar's friends could be
found here. They ask for word to be sent to him to participate
in the Rite of No'som. A rite where even warriors can compete
for Ga'sha if that person has no apparent successor. But it
is strange to send 6 warriors to spread the word. That is when
they explain they ask for permission to go to the other tribes
in the area to spread the news. Since many warriors can act
in this rite. Gib'borah gives them permission and they leave
immediately. Gib'borah explains such rites can leave warriors
dead by the end so many will try but many will not return.
Chion quickly teleports to Ben'dar's ranch to inform him of
the news. But Ben'dar decides that is not his life anymore.
Now that he is going to marry Pasha life is here. Maybe someday
he may return there. Chion returns and hears word that 2 of the
tribe warriors head west to participate in the Rite.
[Sepes 8]
It is near dusk when Chion is out riding alone on the vast
plains on the north side of the village. He is relieving
himself when a creature he has never seen just appears. The
winged creature looks at him. She says, "The winds of change
pick up speed. The three pieces as one create more change
that disrupts the future." Chion stands there holding himself
a bit shocked and then she flies up toward the skies. Chion
tries to yell to get her back down but she is fast. Chion
simply believes the pipe smoked this afternoon in the marriage
ceremony for one warrior contained a bit too much mushroom
smoke. Confused he returns to the tribe only considering it
to be a bad case of mushrooms. It is 3 weeks later when
he returns to Sivas when he learns from Kaylle that it was
a Aerial Vily which he has never seen. But the party is
gone now on some quest. So he figures the omen was meant for
him so decides not to find 3 pieces of something.
[Sepes 10 - 13]
Chion learns some tricks on riding the steppe ponies and
fighting from them.
For the next 5 days Chion practices his invisibility spell
on himself. He casts it 10 times a day for 5 days for a total
of 50 castings He only fails 8 times. By the 3rd day Ga'sha
Gib'borah demands that he stops sneaking up on kids and the
girls when they are playing or washing. So after that Chion
does it in the open so all can see where he is and not be
scared. Though that one girl was well worth spying on as she
washed.
[Sepes 10]
Chion, Cetric, Gib'borah and 8 other warriors are heading north
to visit a village 32 miles away. They are there to discuss
plans for a new set of hunting grounds for the north tribe to
venture a few miles south. Most tribes are good in respecting
each tribe hunting grounds. Few disputes break out. But with
the local area seeing a well water shortage the north tribe
is seeking change. They are eager to obtain some new water
and food spots.
Some 12 miles north of Cetric's tribe they encounter 4 dead
warriors and their horses grazing. The bodies are inspected
and there are signs of attack by a Kotothi Shaman. The men
have been marked and disfigured showing they are victims.
Cetric becomes worried that maybe a evil shaman may be in the
area. This might explain well water shortages. These
Kotothi shamans are seen on the fringes of the tribes within
a day's ride. But this far deep on the plains some 4-5 days
ride is not heard of Gib'boarah sends 2 warriors back to warn
the tribe then moves the group further along.
The group gets to the next village and the new hunting
areas and negotiated. To Chion it is amazing these people
can tell landmarks for a land devoid of trees taller than
bushes. Yet these people know rocks and outcroppings better
than a mountain man may know boulders on a mountain.
The group did learn that no evil shaman has been seen but
will keep their eye open.
[Sepes 12]
Chion and Cetric are looking for herbs on their north western
lands when they encounter 4 riders. These are dressed in odd
gray almost wolf like leathers and painted with black and yellow
on their face. The 4 riders approach and suddenly all four
charge and fire their bows. The arrows miss Chion but one does
hit Cetric in the right shoulder doing light damage.
The riders reach for new arrows and charge. Now within 35 or
36 feet, Chion grabs his Gnarish staff and raises it. He
casts the spell and binds the 4 riders in the astral web.
At the same time Cetric paralyzed one rider with his own
spell and he falls to the ground. Now captured for all
intents and purposes the two get them to the ground Cetric
questions them and they refuse to talk. Then Chion realizes
why all four have their tongues removed. Cetric casts a
Soul Sight spell one of them and learns some info about
him. His intent is clear to destroy the two and he seems to
figure out scout the area. He also learns they seem to be
under some geas or compulsion to scout the plains. There is
no direct evidence but Cetric suspects these may be scouts for
this Kotothi shaman.
Cetric shows Chion that Zen'da justice is quick. You invade
a tribal land without permission you die. He simply slices
their throats. Not as a evil intent to show his power but to
quickly deliver a quick death of mercy.
Cetric tells Chion, "this shaman will have to be found. If
he gets more power and recruits then the tribes may be at war.
We should be very alert."
[Sepes 13]
Chion encounters a pack of wild dogs. All six of them seem
hungry and thirsty. They see the big man as a food. Being
alone on the plains a few miles from others he figures he
could kill them but they are just needing. He calmly casts
some water from stone spells and lets the dogs drink. He
then throws some meat on the ground form his own pack. Then
teleports away.
[Sepes 14 - 16]
Chion spends these days to speak to the tribe horses. He
tries to teach Cetric the Horse language but Cetric thinks
it is just plain weird. A good shaman can learn from an
animal the way they look and act not from their own words.
[Sepes 15]
Chion is riding with a young lad who is trying to learn how
to track animals. Suddenly the two hear a battle cry from
some warrior and ride as fast as they can north. The fog is
thick due to a cold front this morning and so they do not
see the person for some time. Then they see a creature
attacking a warrior. Chion immediately recognizes the
creature as a Te'sla. The group fought one in the past and
they are quite dangerous. Chion does not want to fight
the creature while 2 others could be at risk. So he tries
the trick he did with the vampire Ezam. He teleports himself
and the te'sla up a couple miles. But as well as up he goes
a few hundred miles north. Then just lets the creature fall.
That high up should kill the creature. Chion then after
gaining some breath from the height in the sky casts a
flight spell to maintain his speed. Then casts a new teleport
back to the wounded man. Sadly the warrior can not be saved.
[Sepes 17 - 21]
Chion practices his water from stone spell. One never
knows when one might be in a desert without a water skin.
Course for him he could just teleport to water. But that
is a bit cheating. He casts it 50 times for 10 times a day
for 5 days. Of the 50 times he fails 11 times.
[Sepes 17 - 24]
Chion spends these days trying to improve his Horse Archery
combat skills with the tribe.
[Sepes 21]
Today a eagle lands near Chion. The eagle is complaining
due to lack of good food far to the north. Chion talks to
him and realizes this may be due to Kotothi shaman. He learns
from the eagle where this area is located at. The eagle
explains that the place is full of thousands of wasp nests.
Chion realizes that the last Kotothi shaman he encountered
was in the Vassa forest. It had frogs as reinforcements So
with more detail the eagle explains it is 3 days flight north
of the muddy river. Chion talks to Cetric about this and
finds out that to the north there is a river area that is
so dark from mud and silt that it can't be seen under the
water. Chion realizes that a flight is 30 miles according
to Corona. So the shaman's camp must be 90 miles north of
this river.
Chion immediately returns to report the news. Cetric,
Chion and 4 warriors are teleported 200 miles north of the
village. Only 4 horses can be taken but at that teleport
the group heads north. They still have another 100 miles
to go to the enemy camp. But the plan is to recruit other
tribal warriors and shamans along the way in villages along
the way.
[Sepes 24]
By sunrise the group has gathered 4 other Shamans and 32
warriors. For a total of 36 warriors. Cetric uses his animal
spells to learn of the enemy camp. Seems the Kotothi shaman
has a force of 70 warriors. Cetric assumes they are over
confident as nearby villages are down with new diseases and
disasters created by the shaman. This is why only 36 other
warriors could be here. The others are too sick or guarding
their own tribe for now.
An hour later after sunrise the attack begins. There is
little hope for ambush or surprise. The Shaman has wasps
that are virtual allies. While Cetric and the other friendly
Shamans attack in force using their own spells and animal allies
the warriors do hit and run attacks.
Chion with 4 other warriors he trusts teleport behind enemy
lines to the single large hut that has to be the enemy hut. They
do find him there with 6 warriors and a swarm of angry wasps. Chion
uses a wind spell to obliterate the wasps into the side of the
wall knocking them out or stunning them.
The Kotothi shaman casts a energy web on two of the ally warriors
and sadly they are killed by the enemy warriors. Then Chion
goes invisible and stalks the shaman. He gets behind him and
stabs him in the kidney. The shaman turns to attack Chion
and casts a spell to weaken Chion. Then the shaman stabs
Chion in the chest with a very sharp poisoned dagger. Thanks to
casting armor on himself the dagger only does light damage so
far.
Chion can see the Shaman's focus which is like Z'leyra's
drum. It is his necklace of bones and feathers. He then
sees it is tied together in three pieces. He flashes back
to the warning. Destroying the focus could make things worse.
Does that mean for him or for someone else? Chion tries to
swing his sai but the weakness builds. then the poison kicks
in and Chion falls onto his back. The shaman lumbers over
and grins a very bad smile of rotten and yellow teeth. He
raises the dagger for the killing blow and says some words
as if to complete a ritual. Then he begins to scream as
his clothing bursts into flames.
Chion looks to the side to see Cetric speaking magical words.
The burning shaman turns to face Cetric and casts a spell of
his own and then the 5 warriors behind Cetric fire their
bows at the burning shaman and strike hard. The man staggers
to the side causing the hut to catch fire form his burning
clothes. Then Cetric charges and slices the dagger into the
shaman's neck killing him.
As the hut begins to burn around him the warriors haul
the weak Chion out of the hut. The battle outside is still
raging on but Cetric gets Chion to a safe area. The enemy
warrior and ally warriors fight for almost 3 full minutes
while the hut burns.
In the end only 12 warriors survive from Cetric's side.
Three need immediate healing magic. Six of them need
help but will live. Only one of the friendly shamans were
killed But all of the enemy force was killed
Cetric gets his magic and natural items to cure Chion's
poison and the group heads south. Cetric is still not sure
why a Kotothi shaman would be doing this far inland. The
border is atleast 80 or miles north of here.

Next Update....Monday...
GM: Even with this brief IBT version it is 600 lines. So
I tried to get a bit minimal in it. Especially since
Chion is only a npc now. I just got approval from
Fremea that can post her IBT. Since I had started this
will do next update. If I have time I will do a special
update with her IBT.
So right now waiting on Will to send his CP info.
As far as IBT 6 IBTS are completed. 4 Are queued
with 1 basically done and 3 in transition. No info
from 4 at this point. Though will do Raban's soon
since he is NPC. So we are moving along with almost
half way through.
