[Time: 9:03:00 am]
[Phase 0]
Corona flies westward over the party screeching his warning
of the impending attack. Those who can speak the bird's tongue
including Unali, Fremea, Z'leyra and Arawn understand the
warning. All four turn around or look around but see nothing.
Then they realize it must be from the sky and that's when
Fremea spots it.
Fremea grunts and points causing everyone to look up. There
the group sees the 12 flying half horse griffin things diving
toward them from the east. Stupid creatures should dive from
the west where the sun can cover them but they aren't too bright.
Z'leyra and Unali have talked about them to the old group.
But in the last 4 days none have talked about these creatures.
So the Hunter, Dancer and cousins do not know the extent of
what these creatures are.
They are now around 500-550 feet in the air and diving fast.
At this speed it could take only a few seconds.
While on the horse Fremea casts Luck upon herself. Due to
time she casts a slightly lower spell degree.
Recognizing that the pack horses were the most vulnerable
and likely targets Arawn saw to tending to them first. He
guided his steed to the nearest of the pack horses, a prayer
falling like leaves to bless the horses with protection. But
he only thinks the prayer as little time remains.
Arawn glances down and notices the horses are spread out
among 60 or so feet between each other on the road. There
is little hope in protecting every horse with a single skill.
He reaches down to the horse's neck and begins to speak the
words as he continues the mental prayer for the horses. He
casts the spell and horse is reinforced by a magical set
of natural armor almost as good as chain.
Zabyra looks up and stares at these strange flying beasts.
Are they horses? They have wings though. She feels hope
lessen as she has no ranged weapons. She moves between
Arawn and Z'leyra hoping to protect the spell casters. She
ensures her dagger is at hand and draws her scimitar. She moves
her cloak so it doesn't interfere with her arm.
Kiet curses and dismounts off the horse immediately. Once
on the ground he begins to speak the words of a spell while
grabbing both javelins with one hand. He gestures the magical
hand movements to complete the spell. But he does not
complete the spell as they are still too far away. Kiet is
more worried about the horses than the others. Sure others
can be obtained. But if they are snatched up his stuff will
be taken.
Turning around to face east Z'leyra begins the process to
start a spell. She pulls out her sling and ensures her bag
of bullets are ready to fire.
Unali turns and draws both daggers. She will defend her
horse and others. But fighting a enemy that can swoop and
climb fast is hard. She grips the horse with her thighs
and hopes it will control him if he panics.
The cousins look at each other and quietly convey thoughts.
But they are unsure of these creatures. Will they land?
If so they can fight. But otherwise they may have to just
risk fighting on horse back.
Pyan watches the diving creatures and is unsure if they are
a direct threat or not. But when he sees others reacting and
showing signs of possible attack he draws his bow. He ensures
his quiver is in position. He readies one arrow but until
he sees others he is unsure to fire yet.
Kell glances at the creatures and considers his own spells.
He considers one but glancing around there is no help for
that particular spell. He should've studied that one spell
Trembyl uses. He yells out, "creatures eat us and horses
protect them!" In case the new folks don't realize this.
He activates the magic on his armbands. Then unlocks the
spear sheathes so he can use them when needed.
[Time: 9:03:03 am]
[Phase 1]
The hippogriffs screech in their own wild method of roars or
growls and dive another 90 or so feet. Now under 500 the
group has to wait till at least 300 feet before they can even
do anything. The group knows they could ride hard to flee
but the creatures would catch up as they are faster.
Fremea considers closing the distance but being caught up
away from the group trapped by 12 beasts is not good so will
stay her ground for now.
Arawn casts another Armor spell upon himself.
Z'leyra finishes her spell and becomes more clairvoyant around
her. The area she can sense and see now covers the entire
group of the party. While it may mostly help herself she
hopes she can have that edge to warn against a bad attack.
But in combat these things tend to fail as warning and timing
is too slow.
[Time: 9:03:06 am]
[Phase 2]
The hippogriffs continue diving straight for the party and
should be in range for the bows at least by the next few
seconds.
Pyan cocks his bow and aims.
Fremea hovers to control motion and aims as well.
[Time: 9:03:09 am]
[Phase 3]
Now maybe 250-260 feet away the hippgriffs select their
targets.
Fremea and Pyan continue to aim but they only have bows
not long bows so have to wait a few more seconds.
[Time: 9:03:12 am]
[Phase 4]
Now at 170-180 feet away the hippogriffs begin to divide
up and prepare for final attack.
Pyan fires and the arrow flies toward a group of three
but they weave just in time and the arrow goes flying behind
them.
Fremea fires and her arrow hits one of the hippgriffs in
the belly. She had selected the last of her Elf Shot
arrows and this one takes effect. The creature stops
flapping his wings and goes spiraling toward the ground
paralyzed by the arrow. The arrow takes first blood doing
8 points of damage. But the fall does another 20 points
on impact killing the creature.
A cheer is heard from the cousins.
Those with Slings and spears hold off as they are still
out of range.
[Time: 9:03:15 am]
[Phase 5]
Kiet casts his spell to hopefully protect himself.
Now less than 100 feet, looks to be maybe 80-85 feet away.
The creatures should be attacking in a couple of seconds.
Pyan fires his bow and hits Hippogriff #4 doing 9 points of
damage to his rear lower belly.
Fremea only selects one more Elf Shot giving her only 1 more
left if she recalls. She will have to risk normal arrows
after this. Because if these beasts are paralyzed they
could fall on the party. She targets and fires. The elf Shot
arrow slices the large left right doing 8 points through
his wing. The beast's wings stops and he also falls.
Z'leyra fires her magical sling and the magical bullets
zip toward hippogriff #10 hitting him in the neck doing 23
points of damage. The creature whirls to the left dazed by
the blow.
Kell throws one of his magical spears that can do electricity
through it but the spear goes wild and he misses.
At the same time Kiet throws his javelin at one of the beasts
diving toward him. The javelin pierces into his belly doing 9
points of damage. But the spear's Fatal Spear activates and
kills the beast.

[Phase 6]
Actions? Comments?
Next Update....Monday...
GM: I know 5 phases. But I figure 2 updates would've been
"they are getting closer!" So I just got them within
missile fire range. Now it will be 2 phases per update.
Ok. Consider this the Friday update since it was late
for Monday. I will start a bit on Saturday but will
try to get the bulk done by Monday noon EST. If posts
come in after that it will delay things. :) The only
one to select a spot was Zabyra so placed her by the
spell casters. All others were randomly chosen. There
are 9 creatures left. There are 14 on the party side
so odds are less but means chances are folks will be
selected at least once.
I will update the mana chart after the combat. I did not
list the hippos on map since they are still around 3 hexes
to the right of the party (in general). Next phase I
will place them on map. Keep in mind they will attack
next phase. If they attack odds are they will attack
and sweep high leaving them rising up anywhere from 10-20
feet above you on first phase or 70-80 on other phases
once they are in area.
GM: Arawn - Will assume Sword/Buckler on horse as planned.
Fremea - Do you want to continue bow or go melee with
your sword? I would assume bow since with sword will
need to chase. So if no reply will assume bow. But
using normal arrows. I believe you only have 1 Elf
Shot left.
Kiet - Will assume throw one more javelin then go to
Tulwar/Shield and your other posted actions.
Unali - I'd have tried a sling or bow attack but I
have some sneaky plans in mind for you if I get
get the creatures close enough. :)
Z'leyra - Will assume Sword use next phase.
